I'm not a wood carver but I don't think the see a hunk of wood and visualize. I'm pretty they just plan before hand and look for a good hunk of wood they can use.

Simply a masterpiece! The natural varied coloration of the wood gives life and character to this dragon in addition to the artist’s artistic and skillful carving.
I don't think money could buy this beautiful creation..it is priceless and should be in a museum for all to admire and the video along with it to show the excellent work this man does.
