IMO what made Bungie's Halo great is that you didn't need a degree in Halo lore to be able to roughly understand what the story was going for. It was also a shooter with higher time to kill, power weapons in key positions, and slower movement speed. What 343i did was throw much of that in the trash for Halo 4, and almost all of that for Halo 5. So when Nick says he wishes they'd take more inspiration from the books, I can't agree with that.
Infinite was a step in the right direction for sure, but this name change really doesn't mean anything.

343 has released nothing but stains on Bungie's legacy. The rebrand is just that - a rebrand. I have no faith in modern halo until I see a good game come out. The company can talk a big talk or wear a fancy new logo, but I only care if they can walk the walk - not talk the talk.

Halo's "glory" is in the past; it's 100% a "Boomer Shooter" on console and PC.
If you weren't gaming on the 360, when games like Halo and Gears were King, you simply don't have ANY nostalgia for Halo as a brand or IP--full stop. About the ONLY people who haven't accepted that Halo isn't a big deal anymore are Microsoft-Xbox and older gamers in games media / journalism, who witnessed how popular Halo WAS first-hand.

32:00 people hate locke because he's boring. He's just master chief 2.0 with less appeal. Master chief is an already a brick wall of character in terms of personality and locke is somehow worse than that, a white concrete slab, generic and boring. I said it years ago and I will say it again, halo 5 would be a much better game if instead of locke, we play as Buck. Buck is the polar opposite of MC, he's more charming, more expressive than MC. He would be a great contrast to MC's portion of the campaign, giving the tone of the campaign more variety than what we got.

Halo was the go to a friends house and hook up a control to play split screen game. It filled a hole for a lot of teens in the 2000s that wanted a party game that wasn't Mario Party.
That is what Halo multiplayer needs to redirect to. Fun and wacky game modes, its why forge has been the life blood of the Multiplayer scene. Infection and Grifball are proof of it
As for the single player, they need to go back to more somber elements. Infinite struggles to redirect the story in a way that prevents it being what it needed to be. I think infinite's gameplay is amazing for what it is, and I think the open world aspect isn't bad. I would have liked a few more curated segments. and it definitely needed to be more diverse in location.
Even Halo 1 with its limitations and reuse of levels still took you to some different vistas. A grassy canyon, a dessert, a island, a swamp, a tundra. How in the year 2021 were they only able to give us the Pacific Northwest in space?
As for tone. You can't go wrong with emulating Halo 3 and Halo 3 ODST. That mix of utter defeat and hope for the future. I think as they said, they need to move away from Master Chief and they need to pull the bandaid off and start over. I just don't think the Cortana and Created are sustainable in their current iteration. I don't mind that angle, but it needs to be done better, and it needs to be more inline with the Halo Aesthetic. Trying to force a square into a circle for the last decade has not worked out, and stubbornly trying to force it to work is only going to continue the downfall of the franchise

I was never into the initial Halo crowd because I was gaming on PC in that era. That being said, I enjoyed all Halos released on PC (still annoyed Halo 5 Guardians didn't get released there) and I wish it goes on (assuming either PC release or Playstation release).
On topic: the longer it takes for Halo Studios to put out a banger Halo game, the less chances Halo will ever get back to being the GUY for Microsoft. Newer generations of gamers are already trapped by your Fortnites or your CoDs or your whatever that they won't dive into another game. And the generation of gamers that was the main base 20 years ago no longer have the time to dedicate to a new Halo game as they did 20 years ago even IF the newest Halo game is a banger.
So who is a new Halo game tailored for? Make an amazing campaign with a decent MP and it should sell decently. Make it first and foremost as a live service - I think it will fail because the base is not there. I think they should go into the the former direction: banger SP with decent MP, but an MP that *can* evolve with new modes/maps/skins/etc. Infinite should've been that, but the campaign was cut short and the MP was not supported as it should've.

Halo can't regain its glory because it wasnt actually exceptionally good in the first place. It's like saying "back when COD was good" because of MW2. it was never more than a "good enough" game with a large userbase and very active multiplayer.

I can agree with the first part but you sound WAY too young. I remember when each Halo came out it was BIG you had people that either never really played games or never played FPS games would pick Halo up. Halo 3 was making it in the news back when video games were kinda of a niche hobby. EVERY FPS after Halo tried to dethrone it and were named the "HALO KlLLER". It had glory. It's more that at this point the people who originally made it are long gone and Microsoft doesn't want to let it go (because of it's former glory and history).

You couldn’t be more wrong bud. Halo was on top of the WORLD from 2001-2007. Countless FPS titles were developed with the sole intent of being a “Halo Killer.” Competition finally arrived alongside the release of Halo 3, but that’s where everything peaked. ODST was the smallest of the original five, and Reach didn’t perform as well as its older mainline brother.
