When Shrek brought up the whole onion layer thing, he actually meant the emotional layers within him. While he's a grouchy and ugly ogre on his outer emotional layers, his inner layers are what he really is, a caring, warm, and friendly person who was forced to have a misunderstood life
Ahoyhoy There, Fellow TH-camrino! That's a really Good point. I hope Wotso Videos takes up on that comment. It certainly made me think even better of Shrek.
By our standards Shrek's parents were horrible. But remember, they were ogres. That's likely the way they were raised, as were their parents, and the cruelty is to get them used to the harsh treatment they will receive from the outside world.
It sucks but you're right. In that world an ogre couldn't have those kinds of expectations, it would only lead to dissapointment and possibly their death with how agressive people are towards them.
But it might not mean that can't change later on. Like what if in the fifth installment Shrek's parents make an appearance and they see how their son can change all that.
Every Shrek movie takes a different twist on love. Shrek 1: Finding love Shrek 2: Maintaining love Shrek 3: Enduring fatherhood Shrek 4: Appreciating family
All Movies have a Quest Shrek 1 Quest for Love Shrek 2 Quest To Save His Love Shrek 3 Quest to find a New King for Far Far Away Shrek 4 Quest to get his Life back
Even the movies've pointed it out Shrek' had an hyperaggressive family; a cankibalistic father; and an entirely 'human' based societhy that absolutely loathes and hates Ogre' species; maybe some for righteous reasons; we never get to look other 'natural' Ogres on the real Shrek universe; except the last movie which was an alternate timeline/reality
In the Shrek spin off series “The Adventures of Puss in Boots” you see an episode of a different ogre living in a mansion. The ogre told Puss in Boots he wanted to live in a mansion, so he broke in and kicked out the mansion's owner then ate all the servants.
But when you think about it in that timeline those Ogres were forced to unite and break their tradition because a high superpower was too powerful for any Ogre to fight alone! In the real timeline without that superpower the Ogre's were miles from each other in their own worlds and had no need to seek each other out or know of each others existence. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if they wouldn't have united if Fiona hadn't saved herself from the tower and set out to avenge her parents!
I could totally see a fifth Shrek film being about his parents noticing that people are no longer fearing ogres and going to confront Shrek about his life choices and how they’ve effected the wider ogre community
Then later on in Shrek Forever After Fiona: Shrek, you have 3 beautiful children, a wife who loves you, friends who adore you, you have everything. Why is it that the only person who can't see that is you?
It was the lingering leftovers of expectations of who he thought he was supposed to be, combined with the stresses of new fatherhood, combined with the memory of how easy life was before when it was just him doing what he wanted 24/7... IS how I see it...
I think Shrek's parents were a bit abusive because Ogres don't know how they raised their offspring. I also know that Shrek said that his father was trying to eat him. I guess Shrek had to go through a tough childhood before the events of the first movie.
What stopped him? Somehow, I think that was more of a joke - the father never REALLY intended to eat him. The whole "you're so cute I could eat you up"- thing. Baby Ogre takes that literally and becomes decidedly un-cute.
Bro it's their culture ogres treat their young tough to get them ready for a tough world everyone hates ogres so they needed to do that.... The word abuse doesn't describe it try again
Actually there was going to be a 5th Shrek that would’ve explained how his origins and how he got his swamp but it was scrapped in favor of making the 4th movie the last one (for now at least)
I loved how Shrek became throughout the series. People see ogres as people eating monsters, but Shrek was completely different from usual ogre. He was a truly caring of the people around him, and the reason for that is because he didn’t want to be how he’s parents were. That’s truly amazing
I think that Shrek is basically just like a Crocodile and/or Alligator *They both want you out of their swamp* Edit: Thanks for all the likes, and I also wanted to clarify that Crocodiles are the ones who live in swamps and not alligators (Probably got that idea from "Crawl"). Edit 2: Thanks for the correction of some alligators able to live in swamps, btw.
Shrek reminds me of my dad and donkey and Shrek is basically me and my dad's relationship. Shrek was sweet but riased to be a certain way. Donkey despite being judged by society is very optimistic and annoyingly talkative. Shrek is impatient and brash and untrusting of others.
I want a video telling Aladdin's full story, because I want know more about his past of struggle to survive in the streets of Agrabah, and his first adventures with Abu before Aladdin's life changed when he met Princess Jasmine and found the Genie's Lamp in the Cave of Wonders.

I watched the first film as a kid and never caught the message till now. It's basically Beauty and the Beast where we're focused on the Beast's point of view and also where the beast is doesn't need the change. It's an interesting, beautiful story especially how it puts more appreciation about the people who's born in a way that triggers insecurity and loneliness. Despite how little he thinks of himself deserving happiness and love, he ended up marrying a princess who changed herself to be with him and have a family with her. The message portrayed in Shrek and in Strange Magic is: *"Everybody deserves to be loved"*

What makes it interesting is if you think deeper about it, it almost seems like a perpetual cycle of hostility. The humans view the ogres as monsters and treat them as such, so the ogres begin raising their young to expect that hostility and do what is necessary to scare off would-be attackers, but that fearsome and horrifying image only serves as confirmation to the humans' misconception of what ogres are, which leads to them increasing their hostility and reducing the possibility of sympathizers, which leads to the ogres taking up even more extreme lessons to their children so that they can survive the hostility they'll inevitably be exposed to, which comes right back around to becoming even more monster-like to unintentionally fit the narrative humans imposed upon them in the first place. Inevitably, you end up with a situation where, generations later, nobody is really right or wrong. The humans who started the misconception very likely aren't around anymore, which leaves the modern day humans, who had no control over what their ancestors did, and can't be blamed for going by what they're taught and what they witness that confirms the validity of their teachings, and the ogres similarly can't be blamed for going by what they're taught to survive the inevitable hostility, which is inevitably confirmed by the humans who rally together to try to fend them off.
While I do think that Sherk's parents were both influenced by their upbrings, personal experiences and environments I also do think that at times that they were just being jerks too.
When I first watched the musical. I took this as a huge metaphor for being a person of color, living in america. I'm constantly being told things are going to be hard for me and I need to be tough enough to survive it
If Shrek’s father makes an appearance in a 5th, I would like to see them argue witch each other, with his Dad being disappointed, while Shrek would just be annoyed and resentful that he’s here.
For your question in the end, I’d say both. By our standards, they were the terrible family where the relationship between the parents and children were beyond fixing and getting along. But shreks parents were raised that way by their culture, nurture, and most likely nature.
damn when I was a kid shrek was one of my favorite characters I knew he must have had a f** up background since he mentions it in shrek 1 and 3 but I had no idea his background was this sad and depressing
Well you can find info on Shrek from Shrek The Third when his father tried to eat him and from the musical where Shrek's parents sent him away on his eighth birthday to find a new home
"My father was an ogre he tried to eat me." I think one time his Father yelled at him so much that he got scared and later he made up the joke about it.
In my class i was watching Shrek The Musical, so i think his parents was telling him to leave and when he was leaving so many people was scared of him.
I mean shrek is inspiring, his backstory teaches us that no matter the adversity theown in your direction, you can always come out of it alive. And if that doesn't say something idk what does.
In the early drafts of the first Shrek film, Shrek's depressing backstory was going to involve him in his teen years trying to save a donkey from a wicked witch. This idea was around when Chris Farley was still cast as Shrek before his death in 1997
Can you do a video about Audrey's full story? Because like me, there are others Descendants fans who are curious if Audrey was expected by her family to be queen of Auradon, and her grandmother Queen Leah said "A lifetime of planes Gone!" when King Ben proposed to Mal to be his wife and Queen.
Ehy Wotso, can you do a video about how Shrek never borning led to the alternate reality we see in the fourth movie? I mean, it'd be interesting to find an explanation as to why Puss became fat or as to why the Muffin Man now organizes gladiator fights, as well as answering questions like where did characters like the Fairy Godmother and Lord Farquaad go? My personal theory is that it's not just the disappearance of Shrek that led to that future, but also the fact that Rumpelstiltskin retains his memories, inclining him to hate all the ogres or to ruin Shrek's old friends' lifes somehow. But I'd like to hear your ideas in a video too.
Can you do a video telling Shego's full story from Kim Possible? Because I want to know why she has broken apart from her family of super heroes to become a criminal, and subsequently Dr Drakken's henchwoman.
I think shrek's parents were just trying to warn him about the outside world and the people that are gonna treat him badly. They were trying to protect him in a way but they didn't have to treat him like he was nothing
this a example of having parents that had a old fashion way of raising kids, like they were born in a different time of traditional family values. Shrek's parents are like this, they raised him by tradition. but Shrek is like most of us who raises kids differently not entirely on tradition but by the new modern way of thinking.

Can you start doing more tangled the series? Can you explain why Varian had no effect to the hurt incantation? Or the mystery of Varians hair streak?
2015-17
Everyone: *Shrek is funny. Let's meme it!!*
2019-20
Everyone: *Wow.... Shrek's a pretty good movie..*
Shrek did had a sad backup story but according to Shrek he said that ogres are used to that
Shrek 5 should be about his backstory if it they are actually making a 5th installation of the shrek franchise
damn
when I was a kid shrek was one of my favorite characters
I knew he must have had a f** up background since he mentions it in shrek 1 and 3 but I had no idea his background was this sad and depressing
Well you can find info on Shrek from Shrek The Third when his father tried to eat him and from the musical where Shrek's parents sent him away on his eighth birthday to find a new home
That's literally what this video explains??
How does this comment have 22 likes?
It doesn't add anything new, it's exactly what was already said in the video.
@@wariolandgoldpiramid This was before I watched the video
@@TIGER-xk4gk what's even the point of commenting before watching?
He was seven.
"My father was an ogre he tried to eat me." I think one time his Father yelled at him so much that he got scared and later he made up the joke about it.
🎵Somebody once told me the world was gonna roll me🎵
+Deshawn Edwards 🎸🎸I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed🎸🎸
The DORUK she was looking kinda dumb with her finger and her thumb
Poppy Nutella 🎵in the shape of a "L" on her forehead🎵
and the years start coming and they don't stop coming
fed to the rules that I hit the ground running
In my class i was watching Shrek The Musical, so i think his parents was telling him to leave and when he was leaving so many people was scared of him.
I mean, ogres are ogres. The main sad part in Shrek is him clearly having a heart. Shrek isn't your average ogre though. He really does have layers.
I mean shrek is inspiring, his backstory teaches us that no matter the adversity theown in your direction, you can always come out of it alive. And if that doesn't say something idk what does.
I thought Sherk looked more like a giant frog
In the early drafts of the first Shrek film, Shrek's depressing backstory was going to involve him in his teen years trying to save a donkey from a wicked witch. This idea was around when Chris Farley was still cast as Shrek before his death in 1997
Shrek is more then a legend, he is God
You are a good mortal.
Yes yes he is
Lmao
And for just 25 cents you can witness his perfection
There is honestly a book that the original movie was based off. It's a decent read.
What are you doing in his swamp
Shrek should be an anime
The Twitter Freaks would go thermonuclear, while the memes will go crazy at the same time.
Love that the Shrek musical soundtrack is in the background ♥️
Do a video on: dragon from shrek
Shrek was born and raised in the playground is where I spent most of my days
Isaac reminds me of a kid in my class so much.
That’s cool
"Shrek's parents send him to live on his own when he was ONLY 7!"
Pokemon: "PFT, AMATEURS!"
Poor Shrek🥺
I think shrek's parents were just trying to warn him about the outside world and the people that are gonna treat him badly. They were trying to protect him in a way but they didn't have to treat him like he was nothing
why shrek dosen't have a live action movie yet??
I really like the new closer camera angle, Isaac. As far as his parents, I think it's just the way they were brought up. They don't know any better.
Can you do a video on a theory about Shrek’s Donkey formerly being a human?
No matpat already did and he's matpat
mimichu I’m asking Wotso Videos to do that!
If I would of met Shrek I would be his friend because Shrek is awesome
Shrek's parent's are Ogre Boomers, change my mind
They were born before that generation
this a example of having parents that had a old fashion way of raising kids, like they were born in a different time of traditional family values. Shrek's parents are like this, they raised him by tradition. but Shrek is like most of us who raises kids differently not entirely on tradition but by the new modern way of thinking.
You are the Best youtuber and sherek is one of My favorite movie
Shrek*
I would consider Shrek as a demigod, a modern reflection of the mighty Hercules. Just look at him. He's a half greek god confirmed
YEEEEEEEEES ! A video about Shrek !
I totally think that he was unnamed before Donkey asked him his name, like the way he hesitated before saying his name for the first time he totally just made that up on the spot
