Early on in Nuka’s life he was trained by his family and pride to hate Simba, and over time he became convinced that destroying that king was the only way to prove that he should’ve been chosen to be Scar’s successor and to show his mother he should be loved. Today I’m going to be going through the entire, complex and tragic story of the chaotic villain from The Lion King 2: Nuka.

Dark theory/idea:
If Kovu had killed Simba and became king... Nuka's jealousy would have continued to climb, until he walked down the same path Scar did.
Ironic isn't it?
Interesting theory, very ironic, but also very dark but it kinda makes sense. Nuka following in his father’s footsteps into killing kovu in order to become the next king, like scar killed mufasa in order to become king, but imagine zira, vitani and the rest of zira’s pride’s reaction, who knows what they would do to nuka, probably avenging kovu by even killing nuka, but nuka wouldn’t go that far, even if he did kill kovu and become king, he would forever be resented and despised by his family if not killed. Nuka just wanted to receive his mother’s approval, love and attention, he wouldn’t impress anyone by committing homicide towards kovu, but nuka always wanted to become king, but when Kovu was heir, nuka didn’t even stand a chance. Nuka has always been jealous of kovu and the more approval and attention Kovu received, the more jealous nuka became towards kovu.
@@megagodsavageredlion9772 Very true. But imagine it taking place after Zira's passing, or when she became too old. Plus, just like Scar, Nuka would make it look like an accident (...provided he gained some wits over time).
tomboyangel78 exactly, that’s also a possibility, zira dying from old age, nuka being king instead of kovu, nuka probably couldn’t take responsibility for kovu’s death either and lied about it, but what if he went to far, would the pride murder him like the hyenas murdered scar, it’s a possibility but it’s likely that nuka will attempt to cover up kovu’s death and to lie and blame it on someone else, very similar to what scar did.

Another dark idea based around it is Nuka being alive after Zira died. Kovu n Kiara unite the two prides, so Kovu is ten times the hero now. Nuka would probably lose it at this point, only rather than being like Scar, he would be like Zira and end up exiled.
tomboyangel78 that’s a possibility, nuka did try to kill simba to impress his mother and pride, simba would probably exile nuka or give him a chance, but his jealousy towards kovu probably would’ve gotten him to attempt to overthrow kovu since zira wasn’t there to lecture him, but then nuka would probably be exiled by simba, but nuka isn’t dumb or anything like that, he knew that he would be outnumbered by simba’s pride so he would possibly decide to join simba’s pride and to give up on his jealously and resentment towards kovu.

I'm pretty sure she loved him before and after his death. She would just so obsessed with Scar and taking the pride lands she lost sight of what was important
To be honest it was all Zira's fault for how Nuka turned out. Her neglection of him and paying more attention to Kovu has led Nuka to slowly develop mental and psychological issues that Zira could have prevented if she'd just paid attention to Nuka. But she didn't and in return it cost her her first son's life.
It's kind of sad if you think about it carefully.
I was always curious about the other lion pride in Lion King. Scar left his pride messed up. Nuka seemed very desperate and that's most likely why Scar may not have chosen him. An impulsive leader would cause way too many problems
It's always cunning over impulse; furthermore always well thought out schemes vs 'WING IT AND TRY NOT TO DIE'
Or Scar didn't believe that being first born makes you heir by default. Knowing his grudge towards Mufasa, this seems valid.

in ways i felt bad for nuka and did cry when he was killed. zira was a horrible mother the cub she chose to raise and love to be the one to take her revenge, falls for a pridelander and betrays everything she taught him. the one she neglects, insults, and cares nothing for died trying to kill her enemy all for her. truly sad, at least her, nuka, and scar all together one big messed up family

@@thebeckysquad1326 something tells me nuka cries when he is alone when no one is around. When he was dying not once did he share a tear. I believe it was acceptance and now he doesn't have to carry that burden.
I love Nuka! He was such a fun character, I laughed every time he was on screen. I found his death more sad than Mufasa's simply because I liked the character more.
Omega his voice acting in that scene is really great too it’s so sad...I always get emotional when I see that scene

Zira couldn’t let go of her hate and resentment towards simba, like scar couldn’t let go of his hate and resentment towards simba as well, causing scar to lie and betray the hyenas and blaming them for mufasa’s death, causing the hyenas to retaliate against scar and then brutally murdered him for his constant lying and betrayal towards them. Since zira also couldn’t let go of her hate and resentment towards simba, this caused for her to refuse to join simba’s pride and refused to allow Kiara to help her, causing zira to commit suicide by allowing her claws to release from the cliff, causing her to fall into the rushing waters and then died. Nuka on the other hand had a lot of determination to impress his mother, but while he was attempting to kill simba himself, nuka lost his balance and ended up being crushed by a huge log, nuka unfortunately died later on. Nuka died trying to impress his mother and attempting to receive his mother’s approval, love and attention which is what he received right before he died.

Nuka is a rare example of a funny but tragic character.
The most ironic thing about that family is that it resembles a lot the behaviour of real lions and other animals, with Zira favoring the more healthy looking younger cub over the scrawny looking elder one.
The same goes for Scar's ploy to kill Mufasa and Simba.
I truly feel bad for Nuka. If Scar had chosen Nuka instead of Kovu, the outlander's plan probably would have succeeded. All Nuka wanted was to prove he was capable of making his mother proud.

Disagree, Nuka was clearly not as strong or smart as the other male lions featured in the films and was clearly mentally unstable.
You both are probably right. I just felt if Nuka were trained in the same way as Kovu, the outlanders would have had a better chance of succeeding. Unless he was born scrawny and frail. He probably would not have fallen in love with Kiara like Kovu did, which is what held Kovu back.
@@queennovella7723 you're missing out on one important detail how would Nuka even get into the pridelands to begin with the reason the plan even existed was because Kovu befriended Kiara earlier which (unintentionally) gave him his way in how would any of this even be possible if was Nuka instead

Personal head canon : nuka is scars only biological son... ironically being born weak he rejected him immediately blaming Zira for his condition. Zira scorned, went behind scars back and had Kovu and vitani with another lion. Nuka knew he was scars real son which made him even more jealous of kovu.
or he could have had Zira go to another lion on purpose. Scar in the first movie claimed himself to have been the weaker brother due to his genetics. If Nuka was like scar he would have had a scrawnier body and felt that it wouldn't serve any good to have a weak heir that could possibly be easily overthrown.
I sort of wish Zira had gotten crushed by the logs and Nuka being chaotic character that he is would take the lead as second in command and issue the attack on Pride Rock, his anger and hatred making him a legitimate threat.
But then again, he'd also most likely chose to let it all go because of Kiara.

Towards the end where Kiara tries to save Zira guess what she says? "Sorry daddy. I tried" it gave me chills how eerily similair it was and made me wonder if the parallel was intentional as she was someone who DID have her parents love. Just too much

Simba also more than likely has PTSD so it would make sense for him to be hesitant to trust Kovu.
Or maybe, you know, the fact that he >didn't< help him.
If he wanted to help Simba, he could've at the very least out stretch a paw or something when Simba was getting closer to the top so that they could run away. Instead he just ran off himself, likely due to being scared, insecure and/or unsure.
@@user-un4tl8zt4j 2 years late but Kovu did help Simba in the ambush, he caused Simba to have one less Outsider biting him before he is kicked by Vitani.
@@No-hd4cg I doubt Simba actually had the time and ability to notice that small gesture there and Kovu was MIA for the remainder of the chase. It could've mattered if, like I said, he helped him to the top of the hill/mountain by stretching out his paw or making an attempt when Simba was being chased by Nuka but instead he just ran away. Granted Simba might've not taken it but it would at least show him that he's still on his side. With Kovu just running away it meant that he was at best indecisive and at worst just in on the operation.
Nuka was the "Scar" in his relationship with his family. He was always looked over for the more gifted and stronger brother while he was trapped in that sibling's shadow. It's ironic when you realize Zira idolized Scar but in the end failed to see Nuka was the one meant to be Scar and Kovu was never meant to follow in his footsteps because Kovu always had the seed of compassion and love in him.
Nuka is underrated. He’s been my favorite since childhood. Thanks for making this video.

Nuka was one of my fav characters in the second movie. I felt so bad for how he was treated by Zira.
Speaking of which, if he survived into the climax, would be have reformed? Zira is willing to betray her own family to benefit her loyalty to the late Scar. So Nuka may have been horrified to see his mother's abusive nature reach a new level.

Isn’t it crazy? A brother, much weaker, with a name to show he wasn’t wanted, and a much stronger, beloved brother who betrayed the weaker brother, injuring him in the process.
It’s crazy how Nuka and Scar truly are alike.
I never realized why I always had a soft spot for Nuka. It’s because, I identify myself with him. Nothing I ever do is good enough for my mother. But, she loves my brother so much and is always fawning over him.

The sad part is that, according to the storybooks in the cannon, it is the same treatment that Nuka received from Zira that Scar received from his family, his father especially, even going so far as to change his name to the hated Scar name, and where Scar's hatred of Mufasa came so essentially it is the same story repeating itself with Kovu and Nuka and brought Nuka to a bad end and by his own doing just as it did Scar.
The books aren't canon they're just someone having fun.

In the original cut Nuka’s death was actually longer after saying he tried he would’ve said “Well, I finally got your attention, didn’t I?” Zira would smile at him and he’d finally say, “Didn’t I................” before finally dying

TBH, when I first saw him, I thought that he was Scar who went mad after the events of the first movie. I mean, his ragged look made me believe he survived the fire; albeit just taking parts of his mane all along.

There’s a deleted scene from the movie where, after he apologizes for failing, nuka’s final words were “well, I got your attention didn’t I?” It also proves how much he wanted to make Zira proud.

Poor Nuka, he is one of the characters you can't help but feel some sympathy for when you grow up. He is the true heir of Scar and yet his mother want some random cub he picked instead. You can't blame his deep frustration and desire for recognition. His mother only truly cared when he died.
This is a similar case to the heir of Kim Jong-il in North Korea. Kim Jong-nam, the older brother of Kim Jong-un, was rejected for being too girly so the younger Kim Jong-un was chosen as the next leader of North Korea

I believe official Disney cannon says Scar had no cubs. So Nuka, Vitani, and Kovu’s true father is unknown.
The director confirmed that Zira is their biological mother
Most likely their mother wondered into the pride lands from afar, maybe refugees, and scar granted her family a place. So she never forgot it, which is why she is loyal to scar.

I don’t know how but I remember Mufasa saying “He’s my parents favorite bird” or something like that.. which means that Zazu is at least 4 generations old since I’m sure that he wasn’t a child when he was working with Mufasa’s parents. Its sad that Nuka was neglected so much. He never had a chance to get attention his mother until his death. He didn’t even get to grow a full mane, and he has termites that are really making him pissed.
Even in the lion guard his fate is no better. Some fan fiction writers are trying to fix that though.

Again: Kovu and Vitani are *not* Zira's cubs, they are from her sister! Nuka is Zira's only son!
That's why Nuka said that Kovu is not even Scar's Son.
It made me upset watching it again as I got older. The death of Nuka was the only time she showed any love and care for him which is really really...Mean 💔😭 To know that Nuka's character can be seen in real life only added to the heartbreak of the scene. The things children will do to get the nod or smile of approval from a parent or someone they look up to. I wouldn't say Nuka was dumb just lacked analytical skills. If Zyra had put more time with him he may have been less impulsive..

I felt sorry for Nuka when he died! He suffered from neglect, abuse, and favoritism. I was happy to see him again in The Lion Guard! And I’m looking forward to seeing the live action Lion King tomorrow night!

And the worst part is that when he died, His siblings showed that they truly DID love him, and now they will never get the chance to apologise and tell them that they love him in person.
How did kovu get that scar? Zira scratched him with all her class out and the way she swiped was horizontal and in the side of his face while the scar is vertical and over his eye.

well, kovu was "chosen" by scar, but maybe scar chose his parents, or kovu was just a baby. if the cub at the end of the first movie (which takes place a few months after scar dies) is kiara, then kovu might not be much older than her.

@@goomba1000 yeah i feel like kovu might have been only 1 or 2 months old when scar died. there's also the theory that zira just stole him and he's not even her child, which he wouldn't remember if he was so small.

They say a male lion will mate with an entire pride to birth new cubs... My theory is that the reason half the pride became outsiders for a while was because... after Scar forcefully mated with them... They developed a lust for his leadership and intelligence, but Zira though...
She became the most sexual with Scar, so desperate, that they probably were together the longest, and so that's why she had 3 cubs, Nuka first, but not worthy to his liking...
Example, in that deleted scene when Scar harassed Nala, she did not give in like half the 'others' did

Zira actually caring about his death (probabbly regreting all the time she spend on training Kovu) is the most heartbreaking thing I saw in a kids movie so far. I know there are people that can relate to Nuka and this is making me even more sad.

In regards to lion biology; it makes a lot of sense for Nuka to be Taka/Scar’s son and Kovu to be Nuka’s son.
My guess is Nuka was born scrawny and Scar deemed him an unfit heir. He assured Zira that their next male cub would be his successor.
Scar was killed before that could happen and Zira and the others were banished shortly after.
Nuka matured in the outlands and his mother was in season. There were no other male lions available. Lions aren’t bothered that they commit incest. It happens all the time. Simba and Nala are half siblings.
I personally don’t condone incest but take another look at all the outlanders together in LK2. Not a single male except Nuka and Kovu.
Nuka was the only one who could have sired Vitani and Kovu. Otherwise it doesn’t work with the timeline.
How could Kiara and Kovu be the same age if he overlapped with Scar?
They literally say that they "found Kovu and took him in" and he is not Zira's at all.
One of the other lionesses who did not want to breed with scar could have wandered to the edge of the pride lands and found a back for male to mate with. But rather than admit it was her son and bring it back to the pridelands she abandoned the cub believing that scar would kill any progeny that was not his. But this does not happen Zira finds him brings him to Scar and Scar is perfectly happy to take in this male lion cub.
I believe that Scar was willing to put an unrelated male at the top of the pride because he did not know that one of the lionesses betrayed him in order to create Kovu. He believes that the male Cub was unrelated to his females and therefore could breed with them safely and not have any of his own genetic defects.
Or Kovu could just literally be an abandoned Cub from some other Pride or the sole survivor of another Pride that was taken over by Bachelor males and all the other Cubs were killed but Kovu escaped and the other pride left with their new male. Cuz that's how Lion societies actually work.
Kiara would have been from the very last Cubs Scar had with Zira before he was killed. You don't see any other young cubs her age because they have died of starvation in the outlands.
Nuka reminds me of Cicero from Skyrim Dark Brotherhood quest line. I always loved Cicero.

But his death acts as a reality check in the process for his mother.

@@heatherallen7834 his death is suppose to be tragic either way. The funny thing is his mother and lionesses knew better, they didn't chase Simba up that dam. So either way, his own tragic need for live was his own undoing.
His mother caused that death though by raising a son who felt neglected.

Thats probably going to be hard indeed as Charlotte's mother is never even mention in the movie. No pictures or portaits.
My best guess? She died during childbirth with Charlotte. Thats why shes so spoiled. Because he nearly lost them both. Never remarries. Just hires a lovely seamstress to create masterpiece dresses for his little girl, who also reads to her and gives her that little bit of motherly affection.

I grew up with TLK2 but I never really liked Nuka, now I have tears in my eyes, because I know why. I'll probably die a major disappointment to my father.
It would've been worth mentioning the deleted version of Nuka's death scene, where he said "I finally got your attention."
It fucking got me shookt when Nuka's last worlds was saying sorry to zira, knowing all he wanted was to be loved and noticed.
There were no termites. Nuka was a heroine addict and suffered phantom itches. That was why he wasn't chosen.

Just a thought: perhaps Scar selected Kovu as his successor because, presumably a second born himself, he wanted to make a move against the tradition of first born being the heir. He wanted to honor the position of the second born male. Interestingly, it displays the “golden child” treatment of the heir and the neglect, even disdain, for the non-heir male child. Thus shedding light upon the treatment and sentiments Scar probably experienced growing up. With this perspective, it makes Scar a much more sympathetic character.
