  • Quick video on experimenting with the WWAN slot (Dell e7240, but likely the same for similar models).

    Found this video as well because I also went for a try (msata ssd fits mechanically into the WWAN slot) and can now confirm that a DELL Latitude E65xx will NOT recognize mSATA drives on their minipcie slots because these machines don't support this protocol through their hardware bus controller. What can be done is: use an m-sata to s-ata drive adapter for slotting the m-sata drive into it and then use that either in the internal drive bay or even with a hdd/ssd 2'5 inch drive caddy for the removable drive slot. this will then work. Also an external USB adapter for m-sata would work (slower) So, before attempting to use a free WWAN slot first make sure the computer supports m-sata protocol!

    Fab writup and test! Got here via interest in Latititue WWAn slot and have been interested in getting this type of tests from other systems and its ports and had some fun on my other system where got a super fast drive only to find the port is a 3rd of the speed :) Nice to have this tested so can see if getting expected results!!

    The only issue with installing anything other than a WWAN card in the WWAN card slot is knowing what to do with the antenna cables. A lot of the time there's nowhere for them to go, so depending on the internal design of the laptop may prevent the bottom cover being put back on.

    Just ordered a 2nd drive for mine with the intention of running the C drive for programs and the other for storage, files, music, photos, films etc. If you put a larger drive into the WWAN then you can set up an identical operating system and ghost the program drive to the larger storage so if there is any problem on drive C you can do a quick reinstall. (20 mins) or a complete SSD swap out and you lose no data. Files and docs on the storage drive D can be backed up externally as and when. Been using this with my old system and looking forward to doing it all again (slowly) with 64 bit and more ram.

      Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) and/or Wireless Local Area Network(WLAN) is a goal - or other words "what for this card will be used". But the slot (connector) can be different. In this video it is mSATA, in your case (as well as in my, DELL Latitude) for WWAN slot M.2 is used, where you can plug in M.2 SATA or M.2 NVMe, but definitely not mSATA.

I would have never guessed that there would be two of us out there doing even remotely similar things. ;)

    • @thelion.4K
      @thelion.4K 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GarageMaxedOut well, it didn't worked.
      But what shocked me the most was that the computer actually booted, on windows and on mac os x lion.
      I'd figured since it's apple and all, the firmware would lock me out if the wifi card wasn't detected, but no, it booted as it would only without wifi.
      I told the case on reddit and asked if someone knew something that can be done to make this work, after all the airport card is a mini pci like the ssd.
      I even checked if no new unknown devices were present in case it was just a driver issue, but no. It behaves as of it wasn't there.
      I'm also considering the possibility that my ssd Is dead.
      I did took it off a dead laptop, so I don't really know the ssd condition.
      I might try again with a new ssd or if I find like a case or something to test the ssd if it's working.
