Not only because of the Rangers that have massive range (no pun intended) but because they got firearms, and they're fighting against what are essentially cavemen with metal on them (bullets pass easily through armor). Legionaries can approach at them from any angle they want, a 10mm pistol alone is enough to stop them. Their only chance is with numbers as if they were ants going suicidal. They would have to heavily outnumber the NCR.

Not sure why you single out Chris Avellone. The game's lead writer and as far as I'm aware the person responsible for most of Caesar's dialogue was John Gonzalez.

Jokes aside, the fact that all this dialogue is in the game, some of which most players have never encountered is incredible. The dialogue about the Monorail and Silus is especially surprising. Just another clue as to how much care a detail Obsidian put into the game.
The fact it was made under such tight conditions and yet they still ended up making one of the most beloved RPGs of the 21st century so far....makes my head spin. Someone needs to get this exact team back to make another RPG. Hell if Bethesda had any heart at all they'd give them another go at a Fallout game.

Even getting my way to Legion Idolized beforehand didn't unlock the option. Only by hearing Martina Groesbeck mention he was the spy during Finger of Suspicion, after you've already met Ceaser, was I able to get it to activate
You can "accidentally" get the monorail destroyed while completing the quest for the NCR. You have to tip off Captain Curtis after Boyd tells you about the break-ins in the radio tower. Once you confront and Kill Curtis in the tower go straight back to inform Hsu. Hsu will then tell you to run back to the monorail but since you tipped off Curtis beforehand he's already planted the bomb and it will be too late to disarm it by then! To help Silus you only need positive Legion rep!

honestly this is one of the best cutscene edits on youtube. the quick cuts to the mentioned actions (i died at Hanlon's humiliating death) really pulls the cutscene into the game actions.
