    Never got over how under-acted and bland General Oliver's voice was compared to Ceaser's + Lanius's badassery, Mr. House's self-assured know-it-all-ism, and Yes Man's quirky comedic delivery.

      Yeah, all the developers regretted it. They spent so much time on everyone else that when the clock ticked down on their time, they had to make one of their generic voices do it.

      Fits the character honestly. He's weak willed and many with in his own army have nicknames for him like: "General Wait-and-see," "Old Wait-and-see" or "Wait-and-see Oliver" . Even Legate Lanius is unimpressed, lamenting that he can't face Chief Hanlon who lead them last time.

    My favorite thing about this game was the feeling you got from being in the presence of faction leaders. Papa Khan, The King, and others were written and casted so that even though you might not like their factions, you felt their strong presence, what they stood for, and you could see why they were leaders of their respective factions. They genuinely cared for their people and that made them admirable. I didn't like the Great Khans at all, but I really liked Papa Khan. The Kings seemed like a bunch of idiots, but The King was a leader who made sure his men cared for the community and protected them.

      On my first play through, when I was 12 or 13, I killed all of the kings, great khans, and fiends. On a second playthrough I played way slower and actually listened to the people I thought I wouldn’t like. Turns out the kings aren’t just lowdown gangsters, but instead protectors of a community they love, and the great khans aren’t perfect and can be considered bad people in a lot of ways, but they had potential to be better. Still don’t regret killing the fiends tho, especially cook cook.

      As Lanius would say, "no matter." Still a good video. Some people take issue with CNR for making the Legion seem too industrious, but to me it just balances them out as a legitimate power, rather than jokers running around in hockey pads. A lot of the Obsidian big whigs said they regret not fleshing the Legion out better; the game is certainly very NCR-biased. House and Yesman both work better with good NCR fame. You hear characters like Dale Barton or Rahul referring to the Legion as being reasonable at times, but the game goes out of its way to make you think otherwise.

    • @jvcdeadmoney
      @jvcdeadmoney  7 ปีที่แล้ว +165

      The lack of Legion content is mainly due to time constraints, unfortunately... like many things in that game. Chris Avellone wanted to introduce Ulysses so that we could have at least one Legion-friendly companion but once again they didn't have the time... so yeah, Ulysses only appears in the Lonesome Road DLC. That being said, Raul doesn't hate the Legion and he even mentions that under Legion rule, Arizona is a very safe and orderly place. New Vegas is my favorite game hands down, I think it's already perfect, and I can't even imagine how better it could have been if Obsidian had had more time to finish it...

    • @thenivener4249
      @thenivener4249 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Pabler Arav I completely agree. I never played Fallout 1 or 2 so when I started NV the NCR was a new faction to me. I only knew something about the Enclave and the BoS since I played F3. So i started in Goodsprings, and already the NCR was being portrayed as the good guys and Legion basically as the terrorists. Then I wandered to the south and stumbled upon Nipton. And when I saw people in agony crucified on the streets of Nipton I was horrified by the Legion's actions. And when I talked to Vulpes Inculta I got even more mad when he said that they crucified everyone just to make a point on how great Legion is. After that I saw no other way but to wipe them all out, I killed Vulpes and his squad cause I saw no other way, I just HAD to do it considering what I just saw. And it basically closed the Legion path for me, since from now on I was chased by Legion's assassins. I found out about it hours later. Obsidian didn't do a good job on portraying the factions in the first stages of the game. It gets much better later - you start to think and secondguessing yourself if the NCR is the best option for the Mojave.

      Having your face minted on a Legion coin isn't that big of a deal when you remember what happened to Joshua Graham - he also had his likeness minted on the Legion denarius. Look what Caesar did to him.
      EDIT: My point is that I'd be wary of becoming friends with someone who decided it was a great idea to burn and throw his friend of 30+ years into the Grand Canyon for one failure. Yes, losing the first battle of Hoover Dam was a major failure but think about it for a second: if Caesar is willing to execute someone he's known for 30+ years for failing him, what do you think he'll do to someone he's just met when he/she fails him? Not to mention that he also has a history of backstabbing people who work for him (remember the Twisted Hairs?). I mean... I'm fascinated by the Legion but I don't trust Caesar lol.

      A good idea. Lanius is a highly effective military commander, an excellent legate in the field, but the brutality that makes him so capable in conquest would make him a poor emperor. Under him the legion would be strong in the short term, but uncivilized - it wouldn't be able to achieve long-term infrastructure construction projects, set up more stable civil institutions, establish trade and diplomatic relations, introduce education, or any of the other things. Caesar taps the legacy of Rome because he knows that well-adminstered violence and terror is required to bring civilisation to the wasteland, but he still aspires to build something worthy of Rome. Lanius only knows how to wage war, though he is very good at that.

      LOL you would better prefer the bloated, corrupt bureaucracy of the NCR which can barely hold the Mojave, uses consumerism to keep people docile, sectionalism to divide people, and glorifies the wealthy instead of the worthy, seriously? Instead of the Legion, a faction that seeks to unite the wasteland under one banner, ensuring one-hundred-percent efficiency, ban chems, alcohol, and pointless luxuries so people can be healthier and stronger, and has a strong military that will protect it's citizens and the power of it's dictator. Just look at Arizona, it used to be swarming with raiders, but the Legion drove them all out, and Caesar's Legion has brought relative peace and prosperity to Arizona. Their territory has less taxes, and traders don't even need guards to travel in Legion territory. People who haven't been enslaved and who live in the Legion's territory see Caesar as a harsh but benevolent leader, and they enjoy security and stability. Also, Caesar himself said that once he took Vegas, which would be his Rome, he would take something from the NCR in the synthesis following the Battle for Hoover Dam, and turn the Legion from a nomadic tribe to a genuine empire. I got this all from the wiki, and tbh, I don't give a single piece of brahmin dung about ethics in a nuclear wasteland, long-term stability first, then we can talk about right and wrong.

Your freedom will mean nothing in the wastelands, unless you are extremely self-sufficient. Most people are not, therefore a totalitarian government is needed for those people. Perhaps later down the road freedoms can be established, just as we have gained more freedoms over the years as our society grows (though it can be argued that we really do not have true personal freedoms).

      Not really, Legion doesn't offer anything but stability and certain kind of puritanism even then stability aspect is temporary. Most characters recognize that Caesear is only thing that keeps Legion together (that and constant expansion by looting other territories) and there is no a single inkling of evidence of any sort of reform for a better would come nowhere near in the future nor that anyone would be able to replace Caeaser. Stability is nowhere near sufficient price to sacrifice most of your liberties and rights, why I would want government that would deal with riders that is little better than raiders.
      Ncr is better than legion by a huge margin, while they struggle with corruption and expansionist tendencies and not as efficient in dealing with criminals as Legion, they strive to uphold your liberties and rights as well offer ability to pick your leaders democratically what prevents from Tyranny like in case of Legion. NCR is capable of dealing with raiders as well, especially once they annex and secure area.
      House and wild card endings are also better (unless you perhaps botch wild card ending completely) House while indifferent about Areas outside Vegas leaves them independent and Vegas secured with actual potential for a better future outside earth.On plus side, he has technology that vastly prolongs his life leaving problem with a successor less of an issue. Plus, House is merely authoritarian not totalitarian so as long you aren't in his way he will leave you to your own devices.

    • @nagatouzumaki3492
      @nagatouzumaki3492 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@grimaldus1523 LoL, No. First you don't disprove that Caesar isn't a tyrant by pointing out that NCR has bigger kill count (what in first place I doubt as you didn't present any evidence of it) and given Legions entirely violent and totalitarian expansionist approach, liberal approach to killing for dissent, failure or what is perceived as degeneracy (not adhering to very strict social standards) and weeding out weakness (disabled, sick etc) and forcible hard labor (slavery) and pretty much spartan approach in regard to training kill count done by legion is likely by far greater that of NCR (at least when scaled by size of it). Outside orginal point, NCR may have expansionist tendencies but nowhere near as violent and totalitarian that of Legion which is why pretty much NCR allows other factions to exist in their ending (unless they become openly hostile) and cooperate with them such as Kings, Boomers, Brotherhood of steel where Legion will always try to annihilate and enslave anyone that isn't part of the legion .
      Anyway, as I pointed out discussing NCR has nothing to do with showcasing notion that Caesar isn't a tyrant, all I need to do is showcase his interaction with you where he will try to kill you for simply disagreeing with him, asking inconvenient questions or even refusing to kill someone (pick way Benny will die, if I recall correctly), fact he is a dictator of totalitarian extremely violent imperialistic society that embraces slavery should suffice alone, if that isn't enough to make him a tyrant then tyranny doesn't exist.

    It's honestly amazing how philosophical and clever this game actually is. Not only did they have to be bold enough to include ideology like the legions into the game, but the creators had to be smart enough to know stuff like dialectics in the first place. Bonkers

      Arcade leaves the game (as in he won't be back in the Mormon Fort), moment you side with the Legion. I think it's safe to say that he either followed the Remnants back to Chicago or with the Followers to continue his endeavor being a doctor/researcher.

      My mod list from the time I uploaded this video is a bit outdated though. I'd recommend checking out the excellent "Viva New Vegas" modding guide if you're looking for an easy way to get into modding FNV with up-to-date mods and a stable experience. You can still use Caesar's New Regime and Legion Brotherhood Alliance though if you're interested in what they do.

    Honestly, I completed the Caesar’s legion with a male character, and thought that a female courier was just gonna be like “even though the courier was instrumental in the taking of Hoover Dam, because she was a woman, Caesar had her become his personal slave, as a reward for her help”
