My dad was a firefighter for 34 years. I his 15th year, he did a ride a long with an officer of the same town’s police department. He wasn’t told it was a K9 officer. He knew the officer and dog, but still a bit of a shock for him. Anyways, at one point they were called out to a traffic stop to have the dog search the car for drugs. They guy saw the second car pull up with K-9 written on the side and took off on foot. The K-9’s name was Jet (passed away a few years ago). There’s a reason his name was Jet. Not only was the dog jet-black in fur color, he was fast as hell. All my dad heard when they pulled up was “GET EM JET GET EM JET!” And then the guy collapsed due to a wonderful fur missile clamped onto his calf.

As a widow of a K-9 handler, there is a special bond between an Officer and his K-9 ! I still have pictures and memoribilia as well as the dogs badge ! The Police Officers and their K-9 are the first to go into situations and sacrifice a lot ! "Don't mess with their K-9's" They are family !!

K-9 "Shep" is a fucking Superstar man.
I used to watch "Live PD" and anytime a K-9 was involved I always hoped that is was going to have a segment with "Shep".
That dog is amazing. He could search for drugs, he could track, he (obviously) could chase and subdue Subjects with ease, and the bond between his handler and him was so strong that you could easily feel it through the television.
I never saw a bad guy get away, I never saw him overdo it with a bad guy, and he was always so gentle and playful with kids... just an overall amazing Officer.
As a side note I remember watching Shep and his Human go after two bad guys.
The Officer went for one, while he was ordering Shep to go after the other one, which he did without hesitation.
The Officer got his bad guy and cuffed him. By now Shep was out of sight running down the other bad guy. You could hear and sense the worry in the Officer's voice about Shep and his status.
Of course the second guy could be fighting the K-9, with kicks, punches, rocks or even stabbing him!
The Officer got his captured guy up and forced him to run while he looked for Shep and the other suspect.
Well, the Officer found Shep, who had captured his suspect and was holding him with the bad guy's hand firmly in his mouth, dutifully waiting for his handler.
One K-9, one human and two simultaneous arrests...like I said, "Shep" is a fucking Superstar!

I never forget i was 11/12 years or so and climbed a fence to watch a football game without paying entrance. a guard saw me and i took of running. Then in a matter of seconds i got tackled by a dog. It didn't hurt but damn that dog was fast! Respect for these dogs!

He wasn't to take him down and wasn't to train in that direction This dog was tracking dog and they are trained with things that they love the most (fav toy or handler) Further on they asociate scenting track with fav things (they give them some scent to track and when they succed TADAM person which they was searching held fav toy) in that way they reeeeealy want to find suspects and love them
He was like “sorry about that bad guy, that wasn’t personal, but you are still a bad guy”
I love how much these officers love their dogs, and how much some of them praise their dogs afterwards
Edit: the pug at the end trying to play with the k-9 was so adorable, and they were trying to chase it off and failing so hard and I laughed so much
these animals are so impressive. the way they work so well with the men and don’t back down under pressure, how well they’re trained and immediately know how to hunt down who they’re looking for despite them not being in sight… way cool. i found my new favorite form of content lol

That’s actually a scent tracking hound. Not trained to bite, but used to track missing people or suspects. They aren’t trained for takedowns and are usually very nice. Even track missing kids!

@@Meta9871 I once smacked a full grown male Akita, with an aluminum helmet. I was allowed to be in the yard, I was doing tree work. Homeowner did not fully shut the door. His very aggressive, one person dog, got out. I heard the dog, then saw it was not happy. I had the helmet in my right hand and just swung when it got close to me. Ran to and hopped the fence. Kept running to the truck.
Homeowner was incredibly sorry, I was similarly sorry. Dog was fine. I did everything I could to not fight that dog. I would not have won.
Felt bad because I was in that dog's dojo. I was not respecting his dojo to his satisfaction. There was no mercy in that Akita's dojo.

It's interesting that so many times bad guys are more than willing to go hand to hand against cops and they are flat out bada$$s but when the dog goes after them they become as meek as lambs. The dogs protect a lot of cops but they actually also keep many bad guys from being shot. Kudos to the K9 forces, both the dogs and the men who train and work with them.

I love how they always give the dog a few seconds or so of chew time before they pull them off, I know that sometimes its because theyre not sure if the suspect still has a weapon or not, but other times its just chew time lol. I know the cops like watching it too, specially after a long chase.

Mike Zilla I was just pointing out what I thought was the obvious. Bloodhounds are one of the most docile dogs out there, they are used for scent tracking. German Shepherd‘s, Pit bull’s and Rottweilers are used by police departments for attacking. Personally I would use Caucasian Shepherd‘s, but I don’t think the Liberals would like the mess they would create.

I was a federal law enforcement officer for 22 years, and our team had both a passive and active K-9.
We used Belgian Malenmois as the aggressive dogs, and either labs or goldies as the passives. Our best ever passive was a beautiful Golden Retriever named Daisy. She was a pound puppy who went on to glory, and she could sniff out dope from a mile away. Shed walk up to the druggie , tail wagging, nuzzle up to them, and sit. And just like that your caught.
