    From Roland Garros 08' until Australian Open 2010, Fed was in 8 Grand slams finals in a row (being second in the record tanking which is also his having been 10 times from Wimbledon 05' to Us Open 07' in a row recahing the final); he won 4 out of these 8 finals, plus he ended up the year as world #1 in 09'. Do not really get the point of the ones who say that Federer's ass was kicked from 08' on; dude, loosing a couple of finals do not make you be a loser. In fact, coming back from that and still keep breaking records makes you an even better and more epic player. Roger has shown during all of his career that he deserves to be called the greatest player of all time. In terms of titles, techniques, dominance, and endurance.

      Claudio Vera Del Canto Exactly. Federer is just too good for tennis, and he's made a huge mess by dominating the sport. So many delusional Federer fans and irrational haters out there now in the tennis community. 1000+ match wins with the most slams + weeks at #1 + other ridiculous Tennis titles. I stop reading when people even try to insinuate that Federer wasn't good, or that he played in a weak era, or other bullshit. They clearly don't know anything about Tennis.

      yeah, better not even pay attention to those guys. I don't like it either when they diminish Nadal's or Nole's achievements. People are so overdetermined by their likes that they lack of objectivity. Facts are facts, and the records I mentioned plus the ones you mentioned and some others show that the guy is the best ever (of course that doesnt mean other players are not good, because they are, and in the very deep sense of the expression). Cheers!

    Damn, didn't he used to be so light on his feet? He moves so effortlessly here. I think at this very US Open in 2006 the late David Foster Wallace who was an amateur tennis player himself, wrote an op-ed piece in the NewYork Times titled "Roger Federer as a Religious experience". Anybody who doubts Federer's place as the greatest of all time should read it. Its a brilliant piece of essay written by one of the greatest contemporary writers on the greatest contemporary tennis player.

    • @nicolaszunker4938
      @nicolaszunker4938 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +DaSnarky Remarky Why would reading an opinion piece convince anyone who doesnt already think so that Roger is the greatest? If anything it is more reflective of the cult like status with which people revere Federer and will scare away and alienate those who do not think he is the best. That being said... if you do like Federer, its a brilliant piece which soothes the ego of any fans perturbed by Nadal and Djokovik's substantial challenges to Federers seat on the tennis throne

      @@TheSaxophoneMan16 yeah I mean I am just lost for words. Not only was federer clearly better at the 2015 us open than he was here, but there is literally no evidence that 06 fed would be able to get anywhere near peak Novak😂😂 Blake in the qfs who he dropped a set to, davydenko in the semis, and Roddick in the final who he dropped a set to😂 none of those players come anywhere near peak Novak, so what reason is there to believe that 06 uso fed would beat 2015 novak😂😂 it is literally laughable.

    That overpowering forehand is one of the vital elements missing from his game nowadays. He could just use it to blast through basically anything. I'm not saying Federer has declined in all aspects of his game, but compared to both 2006 and 2009 respectively, I do believe Federer has gone downhill.

  • @SHVideografie
    @SHVideografie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Never understood why Federer changed that forehand swing. It was the most destructive forehand in the game: deep, consistent, penetrating and extremely accurate. Nowadays it drops so short and he is shanking it so much.

    Federer in his prime on much faster courts and tennis balls. To say that Roger is moving the same in 2015-16, just proves that even experienced ex pros and commentators only live in the 'now'. Plexicushion has also done so much to help Djokovic and Nadal. Remember Federer still beats them both on the rare occasions they play on courts that are fast and not the blue clay dead courts.

    • @Crosby4hyg
      @Crosby4hyg 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Fontsman I do of course understand what you meant, but living in the now is the most important tool any person can learn in their life. Living in the past or future is the surest way to unhappiness.
      I don't think anyone is arguing that Federer's current movement is the same as it was during his prime, none of the top commentators are that delusional. I think what a lot of ex-pros say about Federer is that his movement is light years beyond where most players are during the late stages of their careers.

      @PPoyares 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really is. I think Federer uses a low swing weight racket but puts a lot of power with his forearm (looks like popeye's haha). That's an absurd to do with a 90 square inches frame...

    • @lecorsaire2283
      @lecorsaire2283 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Pedro Poyares in a way I feel that the larger frame has cost him his forehand at the expensive of defending his bh. Without a penetrating forehand it is hard to get past a defensive player. I just can't help but wonder what Wimbledon '14 would've been with the old pro staff. 2013 was just a bad year with a back injury. Sure he was shanking more shots by the end of '12 but with this frame lots of his wide open routine forehands are sailing long.

    • @PPoyares
      @PPoyares 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see, you mean this is a frame that helps him play at the baseline, mostly penetrating shots. I think the 90 sq/inches frame costs more physical resistance and stamina. I like that frame, but I gotta say you must have a really strong swing. I think 2013 was a bad year for Roger but that's not because of the old pro staff. Some injury maybe as you said..

    • @PPoyares
      @PPoyares 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Five years ago, at 29, Roger was winning aussie open with his dark and red blx and then in 2012, he was winning Indian Wells, Rotterdam, Cincinatti, Wimbledon etc. So, at 30 yo he reached the top momentum in his career. The tendency from now on is all the guys like Nadal, Djokovic start to reach their limits, physically. Racket and equipment change would help them to get a better performance on court, but it would take years to get yourself used to a new frame, you just can't perform the same way with a new equipment. And there's no much time for that, I would say 30 years old would be the limit to be one the best tennis players in the world ATP nowadays.

    I m a Sampras fan too I was a kid and Sampras was my hero and in my early teens RF got to no 1 and I started likin him. Federer broke Sampras all major records including weeks at no 1 wtf titles and slams. these 3 things are the most important. even if nadal gets 18 slams but only has 160 weeks at no 1 and 0 wtf titles Federer will still be the goat after slams weeks at no 1 holds the most weight u can win a slam in 2 weeks but to become no 1 u have to perform well whole year and that's huge.

  • @pacachomp9
    @pacachomp9 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Seeing videos like this just makes you realise how cautious Roger's become nowadays, more conscious of his weaknesses and less willing to go for broke. In particular I feel like he doesn't take risks on his topspin backhand any more, probably as a result of having to take Rafa's ridiculous topspin to that corner again and again.

  • @zivajodidhgi2815
    @zivajodidhgi2815 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Federer's game started decreased in 2007, first sign was his backhand back then..He started to play more slices, without flat, precise shots anymore from backhand..from then, through the years he was capable to back his backhand in some tournament, which he won..look at 2017, when his backhand is dangerous, you just cannot compete with him..my opinion is that he is unbeatable with this game from 2006..maybe he would not be so dominant with nadal and djokovic alongside, but he would be better than both of them in most of big tournaments..

    federer is the best fast court player ever, they had to slow down pretty much everything to make the tour competitive because federer was owning everyone (and because there were more baseline grinders/claycourters coming up). kind of like golf where they 'tiger-proofed' their courses, or basketball with the 'jordan rules'...

    If you took out nadals best surface out of the equation, and rogers best surface out of the equation the H2H would only be 9-6 in favour of Nadal, which really isnt that bad. I'd say hardcourt is a "neutral surface". The fact is that there are way more clay court tournaments which both of them contested - and as history shows, Nadal is a freak on Clay - good on him (winning like 13 encounters), Federer himself is no doubt one of the greatest on clay too considering he made plenty of RG finals. Additionally, i feel like the courts have slowed significantly compared to the 2006 days. If we again take Nadals H2H against Federer on hardcourt - 8 of nadals wins came outside - where courts seem to be slower. If we move inside however, we find that roger leads 4-1 in that department..and wouldnt you know it....indoor courts are faster...the facts speak for themselves. :) BOTH are freaks of nature - may they both keep playing and provide us with an awesome rivalry for years to come. Still waiting for Fedal US Open final - one day perhaps.

    Just to throw in my two cents, I'm not biased for Rafa nor Roger, but we must take into consideration that at slams, Roger is almost a sure winner if he doesn't have to play Rafa. If Roger is playing a match, you should bet on him unless he's playing Rafa. Roger has been dominant for a number of years and was able to keep his #1 ranking due to his slam results, but a lot of those were thanks to him not having to play Rafa. My way of putting it: Roger is the goat, but Rafa is better than Roger.
