Most people agree that you should go to college after high school. I didn't do that, and I have no intention of going to college at all. In this video I wanted to explain my reasons for choosing not to go, and why that turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made.

I genuinely appreciate everyone sharing their points of view from around the world. Very cool to hear about the different contexts that we live in while making the decisions that shape our lives.
I'm so glad I found this... My life is so so utterly FUCKED right now.
About a month ago I came home and found that the person I'd been engaged to had left without a trace. I'm living at my parents now, pets are at another relatives (and miserable) & I'm wrestling with whether to go to school and become a nurse to honour the memory of my grandfather (stage 4 cancer) or sticking with my dream of writing and teaching yoga.
It's not a sob story. It's not worse than anybody's else.... It's just my shit, right now. I'm happy to see that people care about this stuff.
I went to get away from my family. I honestly wanted to just work an be a writer but my parents were like live at home or go to school and living at home made me want to shoot myself. But now I'm scared because I'm in arts and I'm gonna be in dept and I know for a fact I don't want a 9-5 or to be extremely wealthy I just want a job a love and I feel stuck
@@humanadelniebla444 bullet dodged! so happy for you that he left you instead of faking being your husband like my now ex did for 30 years 💘
It is very good to see your videos. I'm trying to think of the right compliment to give you, but can't find the right word. You seem very clear, normal, and grounded. I agree with a lot of what you have to say. Keep going.
Im already not going to colage but thank you dude
ok
now convince my mother
Convince her by getting a part time job and showing self dispcipline and making an actual plan of what you want to achieve and why(just like when you present a business idea to a donor). If she see's your determination she might oblige. There are also many videos about this subject out there with statistics and stuff. Also I only think this plan works for countries where you have to pay a high university fee.
Maria Fernanda, a realidade deles é diferente da nossa ;)
you don't need to convince your mother. you're your own person

Not gonna lie, i’m almost done with my first year. I’ve changed majors twice and i’m honestly not enjoying any of them. I want to travel, work, and just enjoy life rather than having to worried about exams etc.
then maybe college isn’t for you. If you decide it is again in the future, come back to it. I have 40 year olds in my classes getting degrees they need for promotions
Working is stressful too but in a different way. In college, you set your own schedule. For working, you have to wake up early everyday, you can't party every night in a 8-5 job. You have to go to work or else they will fire you. In college, there is stress, but I had more free time usually during winter and summer. No such thing at a job. Im kind of glad I went through college. I stayed up late many nights to study for finals and spent many hours in a computer lab. It was definitely good memories because you will most likely never experience these types of things again once you start working so I suggest you stay in college. College is only 4 years of your life while working is 30+ years.
@kj good for you man! It’s never too late!
@@LivingLyfelikeaMuffin But what about when college absolutely makes you miserable! Some people have the privilege of taking breaks during college, but others have to work every hour they can get because they need to start paying off their massive loans on top of studying and stressing over grades all the time.
College is such a financial risk. You're told nothing will let you make money unless it's being a doctor, lawyer, or engineer. But what if you can't handle the courses? Then would you risk paying for 4 years to earn a degree that has a higher chance of ending up useless, like psychology or english? Risk upon risk upon risk. And unavoidably misery.
The college can dismiss you, too. I'm in engineering, and if I fail or drop from a class twice, I get booted. I wish I could find it in myself to work myself to the bone to pass every class, but I'm only human. I've failed two classes already but managed to pass the 2nd time. But I'm sick of that cycle. And I'm sick of college. But I have so many people around me who are so against me giving up college. I feel trapped. Also, getting a bachelors could end up taking more than 4 years if you're really struggling.
Anyway, this was just me venting.. it's nothing personal...
I ended my first year last month and a month later finally broke down crying and told my family I hated every minute of it and they were all like take a break and go back when you’re ready and it’s the happiest I’ve been
This video is very true for those who want to major in business, culinary science, foreign language, photography, and film.
If you want to major in science and engineering, just skip this video and go to college.
I want to do Engineering but I'm giving it a second thought. I have a feeling that i don't exactly know what Engineering and engineer life really is like and i wont be able to find it out till the 3rd year of Uni. I just know that i want to learn and learn more about how the wold functions. but it could be too costly to spend 5 years at a University and 50,000 debt. but the pay is good, that's for sure.
True. If you want to be a Writer, Actor, Business Owner, Blue Collar Worker of any kind, Filmmaker, Graphic Designer, or basically anything that is Non-STEM based, University is not the best option.
If you want to become a Doctor, Nurse, Lawyer (Not recommend but go ahead), Work in Academia (Also not recommended but do what you want with it), Engineer, Programmer (University and self-training is recommended for this one), Accountant, or anything that falls into the Hard Sciences, going to University is for you.
exactly. but that is what's hard tho: finding out what you want to become.
Heheh.. yeah. I’m into science and engineering so I am planning on going to college. I wouldn’t mind minoring in language as well because I do enjoy learning Korean and Spanish.
@@Tei_022 Not bad. I'm glad to see you are in a good field like Engineering. As for languages, have you thought about just reading books or seeing online lectures on the subject instead just to save time and money.
From the age of 66, I completely agree with you. I have encouraged my grand daughter to travel and try herself out on whatever sparks her soul. She is currently 19 and has travelled all over Europe by herself, lived in Spain for a summer, been a mule packer/backwoods guide for a summer, managed a restaurant, started her own photography website and business, and now is working in a plant nursery and getting her real estate license. She has mingled with many types of people, followed her own soul and becomes a more capable and empowered human being from all that she does. You just keep following your heart. College and the debt incurred have become part of the declining economic mess we are in...I say, if college is needed for a specific goal, then fine. But as a general rule and right of passage for everyone to be a 'successful' person...FORGET IT.

Yeah, so basically there's no point going to college. I'm not being sarcastic.
@@loveisthemostpowerfulforce1397 Sadly it's not all of human knowledge... the internet is slowly becoming more dystopian, with lots of human knowledge being contradicted and/or blocked for profits, either by only sharing further information by payment. Or flat out lying/creating misunderstandings... Hell, copyright kinda assists in this. There are so many things people create/discover, but prevent further use /prevent other people from building upon it. Additionally, there are also all of those bureaucratic jobs, and qualifications, other than the "systemwide" test, would be the widely employed degree.
Ignodeus Money is backed by trust in the Federal government and gold values. A degree only had as much crediblility as the institution issuing it. That's why Ivy League degrees are so coveted and degrees from colleges no-one's heard of are not nearly as valued.

A couple years after high school, I received a mass email from my old English teacher calling on people to join a panel to speak to his class about college/university life. I joined the panel as one of four and I was the only person that was a college dropout. I spoke about not going to college/university and encouraged the students to rethink their education and career. Well, the look on the teacher's face was priceless. He cut me off and ended the discussion when one of his more gifted students started getting intrigued and asked a lot of questions. That was 15 years ago, when the idea of self learning through the internet was a radical concept and I often doubted my decision for many years. I'm not saying don't go to college, there are some careers that require it. But not having a degree does not mean not having an education.
Exactly
I’m in college and i just feel so miserable, the only class I’m enjoying is math because I like learning it. The workload I deal with in my other classes is too much and I just feel like I’m existing, I don’t feel like I’m really living the life I want. I made my decision to just take a gap year after this semester and just work on getting a job, a license, car, and a apartment cause it’s another thing that’s been bothering me for months.

@the ron Jaimes hahaha, not really, I just had the experience regarding this topic even before this video was made. Plenty of things can be done without wasting 4-5 of your best years of life to get a diploma. In some countries some universities simply don't deliver as much as they demand from students. I firmly believe that the school of life has far more to teach you than academia. Plus, just because one is a "college dropout" does not prevent him from constantly learning and taking various brief online courses. Internet is the greatest equalizer of 21st century
@the ron Jaimes those kind of employers don't even deserve well skilled workforce, so to hell with them and their expectations and their worldview

If you don’t know exactly what you want to study, don’t go to college. No ifs, ands, or buts. There’s no age limit to going to college, you have time. Get a full time job, maybe become a plumber and make $45,000 as an 18 year old. By the time you’re peers get out of college, you’ll be making almost $60,000 per year. You don’t have to be a plumber, I’m just giving you an example. But just know that if you ever want to go to college, you’ll definitely have the money, maturity, and experience to do it. If it doesn’t work out, so what? You can go back to your secure job and make lots of money with zero debt to pay off (assuming you’re smart with your expenditures). That’s it. I’m trying to tell you that there are an infinite number of options other than college straight out of college.
I felt the same way when I was 17. I barely ended up graduating high school cuz I hated it. But then I worked a menial job living on my own for about 2 years and realized I wanted to get back to school. So I enrolled in community college, hustled my ass of and ended up transferring to a top university. Now I’m graduating and entering a top law school. Sometimes you don’t know what you want at 17 but later on you will figure it out! I recommend living on your own for at least a year to really get a glimpse of what life is like. It’s really easy to disregard things when you’re living in the comfort of your parent’s home and money. You learn to grow quick when you HAVE to pay rent to keep a roof over your head and food in your belly

From the perspective of a US citizen, who went to college starting at age 24: I will say the ROI has not been substantial... I'm speaking for myself now, but I studied computer science: one of the most in demand disciplines on the job market. I was estranged to find out employers want much more than a CS degree from their potential candidates, they wanted real-world experience, which it seems college gave me none of. I got the basics of computer programming in college, but my growth has come from arduous practice of the discipline over and over.... and after 2 years of finishing my degree I'm finally landing my first software developer job, not because of my degree, but because I can actually build stuff now.

I got offered to Computer Science, and I am planning to reject it. Is it fine? since i'm not interested
Bro where can I have real-world exp in computer science.
When I graduated from high school, it was the beginning of a five year war between me and my parents to try and get me to go to college. I won in the end and now I have a union job, no debt, and since I educate myself by reading and absorbing as much knowledge as I can I'm much more intelligent than most of my college educated friends. And better yet, the future is still a blank canvas. No worries about wasted degrees or feeling like I took a wrong path in life.

@Taylan T Exactly! I hate how if you don’t go to college people will shame you for it. I don’t want to waste four years and be in loads of debt just to say “I go to this university.” I feel like at this point it’s all about showing off
@Taylan T I’m being forced to go.
@Taylan T I have to be honest but I literally have no choice but to go to university. There is no actual way for me to not go, nor is there is a good enough reason to go. The only way is to try building an online business. I'm acc gonna try something like TH-cam, cos that's the best way I can think of, to prove to my parents I am more responsible and mature than they think. I'm 17 n I do feel like I am given freedom but what my parents expect of me, I feel like they wont see me meeting their expectations. Once I meet them they have new expectations. Idk I feel like university will somewhat give me freedom and help me build a new sense of maturity and responsibility. But I agree with all the points in this video. Its a rlly confusing road tbh. I just rlly want u to understand that not everyone has that choice in the way u think.
I'm not really forced to go, I want to go, there's so many things I could do when I finish college, be an actor, a music artist, lots of stuff, I want to make sure I'm number 1, I don't want to be the new Kevin Hart... I want to be the new me
Hope it works out for you. Statistics say that having a college degree will make you more money in the long run, but miracles haplen
I'm right now finishing my engineering degree and honestly, I did enjoy going to college/university, but I completely agree with everything you said on this video, it's not necessary at all to have a degree, if you have internet and a computer, you can do anything you want... the key for success is discipline, period.

OMG! I didn't realize how "young" you actually are. You have a fairly realistic view of life & that is amazing at your age! Your awareness & "street cred" is awesome & totally legit! For me, "higher education" just gave me more confidence. It reinforced the knowledge & education I had already received & just fine tuned my knowledge & gave me more/bettering experience(s). I think if you're more in tuned &/or more motivated, you can receive that type of "education" through dedication to your chosen, unlicensed, deregulated "craft". Which, you figured out, at your age & that is f'n amazing!!!
I’m not gonna lie: this doesn’t work for everyone. For a lot of people college doesn’t work for them, but for many people college is one of the best decisions they’ve ever made. All of it is a matter of perspective. 🧐
you have to study engineering science, law or something that is useful
I feel like when you have a higher purpose in life, a degree isn't useful. A degree is good if you want a 9-5 job but many people don't want that. There are many successful people that didn't graduate from college and they actually earn more than the average person that goes and graduates from college.

@@lousdinovembre Im not going to disagree that many successful people didn't go to college, but the inverse is true too. Truth is, most wealthy and successful people did go to college. There are many youtube videos out there saying for instance elon musk saying you dont need college to be successful but yet he has one and so does jeff bezo. If you have a plan or an exit out of college, you should pursue it. If you're just a kid with no job or no plan, stay in school and do something on the side first. That's what I did. I started with freelance video editing
I started with art (photography, drawing, painting, and other things), performing arts (good at acting, improv, dancing singing, piano, and guitar, working on being able to do different voice mimics), fixing others electronics/cars, sports (good at basketball especially, but am to short to play NBA), and other things. The only reason why I'm going to college is because I want to become a nurse.

@Chipmunk That's why research is necessary before you make those types of decisions. If you feel you can teach yourself more about coding than a university, great. But research will tell you that a vast majority of jobs in the IT field require a bachelor's degree. If you feel you can learn more about painting in an art school, great. But research will tell you that a degree isn't needed to advance in that career (translating to a waste of money). Ultimately, it all depends on what you decide for yourself, and the risks involved. Getting a degree doesn't mean you're guaranteed to get hired, or that the world owes you anything.
@Chipmunk Oh, I know it isn't lol (was interested in it for a while). Just was giving an example, as computer science is an expansive field filled with variety and diversity, with a great number of job opportunities to offer.

Omg that's exactly my case! It's like learning to write or living to write.
This honestly works more for art/music students more. Say you want to be en engineer, you NEED a degree. Doctor, Lawyer, Business, Accounting, any field that could get you a 6 figure salary you need a college degree. Taking the time and perservering through college is worth it in the end. If you're an art student, art school is ridiculously exspensive and not worth it, so for your case, I think you made the right decision as a filmaker. Most jobs though, need a college degree, and networking in college is great
I completely agree! I’m in school for computer science to become a software engineer or data science or maybe a data engineer, and I know to even have your foot in the door you need at least a degree.
Even for becoming a certified nursing assistant in certain states, you need to take a certified nursing assistant course.
Except for acting
@Chipmunk of course! Just do whatever feels good to you
@Chipmunk Self taught programmers honestly have a much tougher time getting a 6 figure salary compared to one with a degree. I've worked at various FANG companies as a software engineer in the bay area and rarely do I ever see self taught programmers make it far in the company. I know for a fact that most interviewers, at least the ones I've conversed with at FANG are heavily biased against self taught programmers. Only ones I've heard even being considered for an interview are those with insane/impressive personal projects they've done over the years and even then they still have it rough. Point being that it is usually a much better option to pursue a degree in CS rather than self teaching yourself. This is simply because the job market is hugely competitive these days with CS being one of the fastest growing majors. In a decade the amount of people in the job market with CS degrees will be so vast that the majority of new self taught programmers wanting a CS job will be essentially ignored as they will become obsolete.
University/college is only worthwhile if your degree leads directly to a career.
If uni is cheap or free then what you say form my point of view isn't correct at all...

Shit, i mean if you really want to make this basic, hunker down with your parents if theyll let you, get a minimum wage job, keep your expenses as low as possible, and in a few months you should have enough to start a business. If your parents wont allow you to, get some roomates and split rent for a while. It doesnt take a stupid amount of money for most businesses.
Get a job that you can bike to or at most have to take the bus or metro for, so you dont have to get a car and pay installments or gas or insurance. Lets say you earn $8 an hour. If you work for 40 hours a week, you make $320 a week, which is $1280 a month. Minus 15% on taxes (which might get wiped based on your income, but lets include them just for the thought) and minus lets say $150 for those work bonuses youre forced to pay for (in some jobs) , and you have $1280 - $342. Lets say you and 4 roomates split a $1200 rental (yea i know its not great but you do want to get out of this situation right?). Thats $1280 - $642. You can buy enough food for one person for the month with $150 and im being really generous. That leaves you with $488 at the end of the month. Most businesses you can start with $1000 to $5000 and the right skills. At most, in a year, youll have enough money.
But again, you dont really need to do that. Theres plenty of skills you can just self educate on and freelance. Work for free, get some solid case studies or testimonials, and start charging the big money.
Everyone has an excuse and its fine if people want to sit there and think of why they cant instead of being proactive, but its not fine anymore if youre promoting that people should go into crippling debt for a degree that may or may not actually help them too much
It’s the easiest way to work a 9-5 job your whole life, pay taxes and have lots of student debt
@@ReizenCreations most people paid their student debts within 5 years of graduating college unless you live in the US or Europe. Also you're generalizing that everyone that goes to college will get a 9-5 work. Actually blue collar workers , receptionists and people with minimum wage almost always work that long. Actually in my country people wake up at 5-6 a.m to start working at 7 a.m and leave work at 6 p.m
People in the US or first world countries are luckier because they can still succeed without going to college, it's not like everyone is going to be successful but you have a higher chance. If you live in South America , central America , Africa , or southeast Asia chances are that you'll end up in poverty
Julian Rosero exactly they work long hours and don’t make much money. Anyone with a job has to pay taxes
The answer is money :/
I just dropped out of college because I had the same realization that with the money I’m spending to get a business degree I could be starting a business and learning for free on my own. Our society has taught us that we must go to college to succeed even though some of the richest people didn’t even finish high school.
Yes a business degree does not seem worth the money. There are actually important and enriching degrees out there.
@@riase I think it can be important and enriching if that’s what someone wants to do but it just wasn’t my path.
It is necessary if you don't have any money at the first place. A degree is necessary in orther for you to land a avarage and high paying job.
Like you said if you have already a backbone or a road that pave away for you, for example if you are from a rich and BUSINESS oriented family, then you can do everything without a degree but for someone who doesn't have any financial stability, yourreally have to prove yourself start earning first.
How are you going to start business if you don't have any money to do it or to execute it ?
@@nickolazcarters you can get a good job without a degree. I work full time and am able to save money and hope to be launching an online store soon. In college I know so many people who aren’t working and therefore only going into debt for a degree. There is also no promise you get a job right out of college but even if they do the majority of their money will be used to pay off debt. It’s not hard to find a job that pays $15-20 an hour right now because even entry level jobs are paying higher than ever. If you save most of that and have a good plan in place for what you want to be doing then you can live a great life without going to college. There are internships, certificates, and classes that you can still take to get a job you want without spending thousands on a degree.
In South Korea, if you don't go to university you can't have a good job
Same in India
Same in Italy
Same in Finland
Same in Latin America
Depend what u mean for “good job”, what is good for you could not be good for someone else and vice versa..
you and only you control this very life of yours. Do not let anyone dictate your life for you. Choose wisely. Much love and positive energy
I completely agree for most B.A. majors (bachelor of arts), but I would say college is fundamental for most B.S. majors (bachelor of science). You can totally teach yourself most scientific concepts , but as far as working in the field and contributing to society, I feel much better knowing a criteria has been met for doctors, chemists, physicians, biologists, ecologists, etc. These are the people healing us, protecting us, guiding us, and telling us what is going on in the world around us and why.
@@alexandercerreno8329 he said in the beginning if you want to be a doctor or lawyer its fine, those fall into the same category as you need actual certification for those
@@alexandercerreno8329 I feel like have a degree is almost completely necessary now. It's so so hard to find a good paying and stable job that will hire you without a degree?? lolol
@@alexandercerreno8329 Sure, that's true. But how many jobs that "require" college degrees actually need one? So many positions require a degree when the work doesn't need someone who has a college education. Most of the work can just be taught during training. I think the issue is with the structure of our job market on a much larger-scale. Too many jobs only hire those with degrees for positions that really don't require one. Soon, a bachelor's degree is going to be worthless, and positions will only be available to those with master's. That's seriously messed up, when you consider the type of work that these people are doing... to have to go school for upwards of six years with tens of thousands of dollars in debt for jobs that aren't exactly specialized. It's sad. (And I'm not talking about careers that are super specialized, like in the medical field). I'm just saying that a lot of jobs can be taught through apprenticeships/training. Half of the education we receive in college is not relevant or necessary. Just filler classes as a way for the schools to get money out of you.
I think that there should be a mid point in this topic, becouse the college can teach you many things but it also is a waste of time sometimes, with stupid courses (obligatory) ones that you need to assist to obtain the damm degree.
It should be most flexible.
Alexander Cerreno I don't think it's luck. You are right about the fact that for certaint jobs, you NEED a degree. True. But this dude didn't get to his state in life, were he is now, with luck. You create (lucky) opportunities by working hard and continuing when everyone else stops. If you give up because you can't take the consequence of your failure, you lose. When you push through a situation where most people will stop, you win. And this dude probably won a lot of those battles to get to the point in his life where he is now. Not trying to hate on you but a lot of people get this wrong because they never experienced this. Everybody is capable of doing a lot of things and it's up to you how far you get in life.
I really appreciate this video. I think it’s such an expectation that EVERYONE has to go to college, and that’s so not the case. You can be successful without college if you are willing to work for it.
Going to the university was the best decision in my life. I'm going to be a doctor in 1.5 years.
For a doctor you doo need to go to college
Reggie Shmeggie and college was right for you. congrats on being close to graduating medical school.
@@thescourges thanks :)
Reggie Shmeggie congrats man! I’m a freshman and planning on going to Pharmacy school so this is encouraging to see!
Reggie Shmeggie any recommendations on getting job shadowing experience if I have zero connections?
So many valid points!
I think there is a stigma (at least in the US) that if you don’t go to college, there is no way to be “successful.” This is absolutely not true.
I really appreciate you making a video about this subject, as I feel it’s very important and more people need to really think hard about whether or not college personally right for them.
Such a powerful message, not only “don’t go to college” but to be self-disciplined.
You are absolutely right when you are talking about university in the United States. If you live in a country where going to college/university costs nothing at all or just very little money, it’s a completely different thing.

I study free in college but i still regret it
In my country college is absolutely free. I dropped out almost at the end having good grades. It was one of the best decisions in my life.
@@arcticflower1760 Can you elaborate? If you dropped out at the end, I assume you probably had 1 more semester left to get your degree, how come it is the best decision in your life?
I'm also considering dropping out in my first semester, in just a few weeks university managed to make me hate the subjects I'm normally very interested in. Considering what I went through and how much time I spent to get full scholarship for CS in this uni, I kinda feel sorry for myself.
@@shindoxxx because it was a worthless piece of paper that wouldn't help me get a "good" job. I don't wanted to waste one more year and get depressed ending overeducated in a job that doesn't require a degree. Because I am a dropout, family and friends don't have big expectations, so life it's soo much easier for me.
I started working in a flower shop, and I cannot tell you how much I learned about running a business, logistics and planing. Now I feel safe and happy knowing that I have skills that make me able to earn more than a minimum wage.
"Thats the whole point of college, intellectual diversity"
.....I wish that were actually true..
the original point of college was to bring in brilliant people from various backgrounds, and have them research interesting problems.
now it seems like they've devolved into siphons that prep people to the complacency involved in entering into the labor force, and people's perceived value and their self-worth is thus tied to the piece of paper that they get at graduation. sad, really.
You explained everything I wanted to say!!
Self-education is working really well for me after dropping out of college. I think all we need is practice, discipline and internet.

Agreed. If you want to learn how to create a business might as well work for a startup instead of go to school.
@@therealai777 To clear it up, I'm in Nursing but I want to build a business on the side. I would never go to school for business as I see it as a waste of time and money.

I was basically forced into college and after my first year I already concluded it was a big waste of money and time, nor did I need it. I really hope more people get reached by this video
Dude, I'm 21 now and in my 3rd year of University and I'm drowning under the workload. I am learning so much more outside of my lecture halls and in my extra-curriculum work. I'm literally not allowed to fail because I'm on government funding and this hole that myself and my classmate have dug ourselves into is just getting deeper and harder to get out of. Thank you for making this video!
when i was 19 and about halfway through uni, i decided to drop out because i felt like i wasn't going anywhere...then after staying at home for like 4 months, i decide to go back. I'm also 21 now and i have about 5 weeks left till i'm finally done. judging by the huge amount of things I've learned outside of the classroom, i sometimes wish i didn't go back...but making that decision to go back was more beneficial to me, actually. At the end of the day, everything boils down to circumstance and possibly personal preference.
What do you guys do for college?
@@token687 do you mean what degrees? If it's degrees you're asking about, I'm studying 3rd year BA in Humanities, majoring in Theatre Studies. A college degree is just for the title let’s be honest
Laughs in Corona virus 💀
Doesn’t make it any less valuable though
A doctor, a lawyer and other professions are good "titles" then?
It depends on the degree. Basically, if you get a degree in nursing you will have a title... But you will have skills to do a job too. That's an example. On the other hand, If you get a degree in literature you will have only a title xD
Oh, of course. Now learn all about medicine on the internet and go help people at hospitals, don't go to college and get a lot of knowledge to help people properly, of course, of course, college is bad, yeah, yeah.
I love this video! I tell my kids that college is optional for them. They can go if they want to but if not they can still be successful in the world
my parents tell me i won’t be successful without college and it really makes me upset and worried :/
I feel like the only reason I decided to go to college was because society & family pressured me to - not necessarily because it's something that I actually wanted to do. I’m 22 turning 23 in 2 months. As I was growing up, I noticed that by the time you finish high school. I saw that everyone had a path they had to jump on and that was going to college. I went to college for a week and decided I didn’t like it at all and then after I went to a vocational school, got a job and worked as a dental assistant ( I hated the job so much) and left. I work now in a restaurant serving. I come from an Asian background so I’m really glad that my parents are so chill as long as I have a job I can do what ever. Most Asian parents are very strict with their children, make them get good grades and get into top schools so they have a better life in the future. My aunt is one of them unfortunately, trying to force me to get back to school even when I don’t want to. She calls me whenever Im not busy and gives me a lecture about life etc. Everyone is different in their own ways. 😄
I've talked to my parents for a while now about dropping out of college, but they are sticking in there doctrine that if you have a degree or graduated college, you'll be good in life, i don't see it that way. It doesn't line up in my interest and ways of working. School drags me down and making me feel crap about myself in contrast to me working on my own and with my friends, struggling and failing, but at least its real and hard work unlike the crap we do in school which is for the most part useless or unnecessarily stupid.
Generally it's true that a degree is better than not having one. It really depends which degree, how much debt you'll be in, and if you don't go to school what will you do instead?
Rj Rebueno We literally come from two different worlds than our parents when it comes to YOUR life take your own advice..
in part its true, if you wanna have a secure career, get a stable job, its better you do the college, but if you want a successful life without a college you have to work hard on your own business or something like this
Exactly what I was thinking. Why spend the rest of your life paying off student loans and attending classes that you don't want to attend or for someone like me with social anxiety, I find it hard to attend everyday classes, when you can just sign up for free online classes or simply read books and watch videos for free.
