Moral of the story: everyone is different. College is NOT for everyone. People suffer from mental illness and family issues. You never know what someone has to go home to. Never judge someone based off of their education.
Edit: I’m glad people understand me and liked my comment, I suffer from depression and doing anything is exhausting, especially school. I want people to know you don’t need college or extra education to represent yourself in your own beautiful way, no matter what anyone says, you do you, your life is your life.

A degree at harvard isn't valuable because you pay boatload so fmoney for it, its valuable because of the faculty and stantards of the college. At the same time i dont think the pricse you pay for college correlate with its quality. Theres plenty of very quality education in the rest of the world that isnt made less valuable because of its price. I didnt agree with in the video and dont agree with it now, if everyone went to college college wouldnt be useless. I jsut dont think college should be seen as a "prestige stamp" to put on your resumée. Besides, the different colelges owuld always be differently ranked and you would sitll get that prestige stamp. College is best seen as a tool to help you achieve what you want, if more people saw it like that instead of "i need that degree to achieve x" i think they would have a much better attitude in regards to their education (not that i know how people view college in the US, but i dont think making it cheaper would decrease its value whatsoever)

Some of the most intelligent and wise people I met in my life were drop-outs. They usually have deep life experiences and have an extremely hard work ethic. But I also agree if you have a chance to go college, you should go and do it. Basically some people believe college is something absolutely necessary and if you don't it, you're failure, these people are not wise and narrow minded, life is too varied and complicated to set every decision in black and white, there's a lot of unpredictable gray area.

Before I dropped out, My father gave me two choices.
    1. Drop out - get a job - grow up fast (I was 16)
    2. Stay in school - go to a catch up school even though you're smarter then that
I chose option 1 and for the longest time, I was looked down on by friends, teachers, and even my own family. I had words thrown to me by my little and older sister for not finishing school, my Father always bagged on me to get a job and my mother didn't say she was proud of me anymore. I was hounded harshly by many people, and I remember one of my teachers saying "You will regret this" That went on for a year and it was constant.
I'm successful, I live alone in my own apartment in a fancy place with a very nice job. And I have to say, the education system can teach you all about math, science, LA, and history. In the end, it never taught me how to do taxes, that was my father. It never taught me how to be a kind soul and get up to get to work on time, that was my mother and father. It never taught me how brutal the real world was, that was my little and older sister and ex friends. It never taught me skills that prove that I'm smart, that was my 13 years of IT Experience with my father.
Education is important to prove worth, but it will never teach you to survive. And surviving is a very lucky affair only some people have made it through. The education system adds stress, depression, anxiety, etc. Those years of our lives that we're pressured to do these things we'll never get back.

Historically, employers will keep upping the educational anty to eliminate applicants. So, instead of a BA, now we all need MA's. It is happening and will continue to happen. I'm not happy, I'm depressed and pretty much suicidal especially during the semester because everything is just too much. And the worst part of it all is that I cant just outright tell my mom 'hey, I'm not going back to college." I've told her that school isnt for me and shes trying to make a compromise and I have no idea how to tell her that this is my life and she may not agree with the decision but it's my risk not hers. Especially when shes not paying out of pocket

don't stress about it, we all have the same parents that try to force us to do what they want. Don't be afraid to disappoint them. Do what you want and within the next 10 years you will figure out more of what you want to do and who you want to be. i'm already 31 and i have had so many different jobs and i'm still not sure what fits me. it takes time, all you can do is keep working and keep living life. Just my only true advice is try not to sit around at home even if you quit college. you can't find what you want to do if you don't go out there and try different jobs. Going out there and exploring life is how you find yourself and try to enjoy the people around you even though there will be lots of people that make you upset always try to look past them and think more about yourself.

Tyler Sanders if you’re above 21 you can legally live independent from your parents. Work hard and get an apartment for yourself, get some stable income and get a solid base for yourself to start doing what you want to do. It’s gonna suck a few months/Year’s and only do it if you have actual direction and an idea of where you want to go in life. Sometimes you just have to rip the cord between your parents and you, let them know you still love them but it really is your life so go ahead and do what you truly want to do!

"if everybody went to college it would become useless" -- this is actually a really simple question with a really simple answer. Lol. It's about supply and demand. One of the reasons getting a job after school is so difficult now, is because there is an oversaturation of degrees. Therefore, it becomes more competitive to be hired with a degree. So yes, if everyone goes to college without more college level positions becoming available simultaneously, a degree indeed becomes useless for most people. It's that simple.

@@HomeForGamersFTW I learned more critical thinking skills from actually jumping into the *real world* than I did from college. I hear this sentiment mimicked by pretty much all of my “degreed” friends. And most people can’t afford to go to college “just to learn critical thinking or different perspectives” - they go because they need to get a job making actual money to survive. So yes. The largest reason for going to school IS getting a job. If it weren’t, people wouldn’t pay thousands of dollars a year to attend. It’d be illogical.

I don't know if it is true, but thats how I always looked at it, the more degrees, the more filled up spaces, so then you'd have to go to graduate school and its just more debt, my mom always said university teaches you how to gain a perspective but most people that do go to university around me don't think similar to what I do. The main purpose is to get a job that pays well, but there are so many jobs out there that pay well, so I mostly think it's a social status and I think it's ridiculous. But if people do know what they would like to do with college being a requirement that is awesome, but I think almost to everyone don't know WHY they go to college and they choose a job that "inspires" them thinking only college will guide them there but there's so much to life than just university being the requirement to "succeed".

Bruhmindyourbusiness k I respect your opinion but what you are saying is false. stay at home mothers work just as hard as those with a job, just because you don’t have a traditional job doesn’t mean you are lazy and don’t work hard. my mom worked and had a well paying job for years before she decided to quit and become a stay at home mom and it was honestly so much more beneficial for me. I had a much better bond with my mom than a lot of the kids that i was friends with, they were going through terrible things but didn’t have anyone to call on or protect them because their mom was never there for them, always working. having a mom that guided me along the way and was with me when i went through stuff helped me to end up more stable. also, there’s so many aspects that come to play in being a stay at home mom, they handle ALL of the family related things that keep everyone in the house going (excluding the financial aspect), they don’t just sit around and watch tv, they take care of majority of the responsibilities that no one else is willing to do. a lot of people seem to forget that being there for your kids emotionally and physically is more important than being able to buy them nice clothes, just giving your kids material things is not being a mother. however i do have major respect for woman that handle both being a mom and working a job to make money, i think that is real hardwork too.

The other applicant don't have a diploma/degree but have a lot of experience in the field of the job. The thing about college is education isn’t enough. You have to make connections with people. You never know if your best friend will become the next CEO and they can hire you. Maybe they get a job and they manage to help you get a job in the same place too. Perhaps colleges have resources like the job center to help you find a path. Like during my education class back when I wanted to be a teacher (plans have changed), my professor was the principal of the school. He told me to contact him for a job once I’m done. Internships are also important! You gain experience and sometimes they will hire you. Unfortunately, where I live you can’t do internships without proving you’re pursuing a major. 😔

      @mr.goodsir3410 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

jcast39 that’s true. Let’s take a look at computer science. There are mainly 3 paths: boot camp, self tought, and college. Having that degree makes you so much more competetive than others because companies trust the colleges and know that their education will get you prepared and it’s what they are looking for. It’s definitely possible to get a job through other ways but you already have an advantage with college. Plus it’s easier to get internships with colleges and build up that resume.

Logan R. Firstly, this is graduates and dropouts. Plenty of older people have graduated or dropped out of college in the past. Also there are older people who go to college. It is not just for young people. Secondly, I didn't say it had to be "old geezers". I said "older", meaning not just people in their 20's. You can learn a lot from older people if you are respectful and listen to what they have to say. Thirdly, I do agree that the elderly usually don't understand younger generations, but that doesn't mean they don't have anything good to say and teach us. They grew up in different situations and the world was a lot different back then. Their experience in life gives them wisdom that can be passed on and they have a different perspective that might give insight into things younger people probably don't know about. You shouldn't dismiss the elderly just because they think differently and don't understand you. Maybe the elderly and young people should try to understand each other more. Finally, middle ground is supposed to bring people who disagree together for a discussion. Maybe there should be an episode with elderly and millennials.

People often go and then are stuck paying debt off most of their life when they could've gone to a community college with either no debt or hardly any. I went to a community college for two years, and that was just fine. Right now I am away at a four year college and my depression has worsened greatly, and I feel I haven't learned much of anything. This just doesn't apply to ppl who went(at one point) to law school, went for careers in the health field or even in construction unless HUGELY self taught or reliant. But one thing in common is the ones who push the hardest and are smartest about navigating their way through make it further than those who don't. Getting a degree doesnt guarantee a good job or income, just like going into a line of vicarious or blue collar work doesn't mean higher pay than ppl with degrees. Theres tons of blue collar workers making a wide range but if you narrow it down to a field that requires both education and drive like an anisteasialogist you'll end up finding that the base wage(not earnings) is a lot more steady.
