I’ve driven by the interchange you’re modeling a million times growing up!! The area is called the Altamont Pass. The area you’re speaking of isn’t desert at all. The mountains are covered in dry grass, not dirt. On the other side isn’t desert at all but the Central Valley; responsible for over 80% of America’s fresh produce.
Finally, someone who knows more about the Central Valley! :D I was just thinking the same thing (and made a comment similar to this :x.) and that I doubt those in Tracy would like being known simply for being "on the road to SF" :P Also, he could include an "ACE Train"-like route for kicks ;) haha.
I was going to say, I couldn’t picture any desert east of SF, at least until you get well over the Sierras and deeper into Nevada I suppose. The Altamont area didn’t even occur to me. Cheers from the San Joaquin Valley!
In the Bay Area and in the north bay those hills aren’t desert, it’s actually yellowish grass/dead grass. While some areas are just dry earth the hills are golden, though since the bay got a lot of rain recently a lot of the hills are green at the moment.
Been following this. Great as usual. The way you're playing this map is exactly how I like to play mine. I love a urban area with sprawling places of interest around the whole map. Feels more like a mini world than one city.
Can’t get enough of this series! Love the fact that everything you build is based on the reality and you can recreate them so great in Cities:Skylines! Keep up the good work!
This whole valley looks so awesome- the interchanges, the implied river, and the theme itself flow so nicely together. I think I just have a thing for infrastructure with nothing around.
It's so cool that you took inspiration from this area! When catching glimpses of this spot in previous episodes, I was strongly reminded of the same stretch of highway (especially because of the windmills).
Every time I watch one of your videos I'm reminded of how great it is to just drift around on Google Earth checking things out. Love the Californian joint you're on with this series.
The Central Valley of California is quite beautiful! Also, it's not really a desert where you were showing on Google Earth :c the San Joaquin valley and Tulare Basin may have some desert-like qualities sometimes, but it can get quite stormy around here :) Also I like how you point towards the city of Tracy and say "near San Francisco" when the drive from there to SF proper is like 2 hours during rush hour :P
The ‘river’ is The California Aqueduct. It brings water from Northern California through the TEMPERATE San Joaquin Valley that you’re using for inspiration all the way to the desert that is Los Angeles. This area is VERY temperate; the hillsides are vibrant green during our wet season, winter through late spring, before drying out during the hot summer. This area is my home.
The reason the Highway got split up that you were talking about at the end there was probably because it was simply easier to build on the higher ground as apposed to making the highway dip down or building a bridge. 13:30 I do like your addition of the river though.
I’d suggest adding a little wine country/wine trail, as California has many wine regions, from Napa, to the Central Coast, to Amador and Calaveras Counties, and the Central Valley/San Joaquin Valley and likely more. I think I’ve seen vineyards on the workshop.
@@twodollarstwenty It's alright. Since you referred to Altamont Pass, you could generally call it Central Valley. Though there are smaller valleys in the general area that would fall outside of Central Valley. Also, instead of saying 'outside of San Fransisco'; you could instead say 'outside of the Bay Area'. As San Fransisco isn't the only city that exists in the bay.
This is just silly lol. He's not incorrect in saying it's outside of San Fransisco. It's the biggest, most well-known city in the area he's talking about. And he's not even from the US lol.
@@neevenz6059 San Francisco actually isn't the largest, according to the 2010 census, San Jose is. But San Fran is still the more well known city, probably for it's attractions such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.
@@montanan4007 He is literally referring to San Fransisco. That's what I mean when I say the biggest city in the area he's talking about, because he is literally talking about San Fransisco. Which is why it's silly lol. He's not trying to replicate the entirety of the whole area. It's a reference, which is why it's not just there he's looking at. So, also why it's silly, because he's not wrong in saying the area outside of San Fran. You saying it's more well known just proves my point even further.
it’s actually not a desert! there isn’t any desert near the bay area - it’s all in the southeast of the state. the mountains (which are just dry brush / grass, when it rains they’re super vibrant green) separate the bay area from the central valley, which is actually the most agriculturally productive region in the US. it takes about 45min-1hr to get through the mountains to the east bay or through to the peninsula if you’re driving up the 5 from LA. :) let me know if you need any help with regions from california, especially southern CA! (i live in LA)
i think what you’re going for with the town is kinda like a smaller bakersfield. it’s absolute garbage as a place but i think you could make a nice, twilight zone version of it lol
You’re probably not worried about a comment from a year ago. I just want to say thank you for rekindling my love of this game, you’re the first person I’ve seen to treat a map as a state, province, heck even a country. Like a miniature France or something. Love these episodes, your Springfield series is one of the most amazing things I’ve seen and as a Simpsons lifer thank you. It made me a patreon. Keep up the good s**t! ♥️ from 🇨🇦
Hey TwoTwenty, long time follower here from Wollongong. I like where you are taking this... I just hope that you don't get bored of MM before you spread out even further... Keep up the good work
Thanks for getting in touch mate! Always good to hear from a fellow Aussie. Tbh this is the part I am most excited about. Also I plan to be live streaming plenty of MM next month :)
totally awesome, make my videos look aweful haha. Love to mod and make as realistic places as possible. I admire what you do sir! My UK towns never look as good
This is a really small city, especially for the southwest. Where you’re building would be sprawl suburbs, not even outlying towns. Seems more of a San Andreas scaling, not L.A. or Phoenix. It looks amazing, it just bothers me that we still can’t get the scaling right. The game just isn’t capable of being realistic size-wise, and almost anyone who tries to create a whole map build either burns up or loses the save eventually. If anyone can do it though, my bet would be on you.
That’s the idea behind this series. If you’re interested in a much larger scale city based on LA then check out my other series Springwood. This series is geared towards playing the game within the games limits (kinda)

Also, the reason why those different directions are split is because the old two-way road is one part and then Caltrans dualled the highway later.
Yeah, came here to talk about this too. Drive through the Altamont almost everyday for work. Just missing the bumper to bumper traffic :D
Bay Area native here, good to see the Altamont inspiring design. Fun little easter egg in the series.

You should add some very luxurious cottages and resorts across the bridge from Montana

You could check the area on the north side of los angeles where the interstate comes out of the mountains into the valley, it's called Grapevine.

Make a mining town secluded somewhere in the mountains
I love that series !

As someone who lives in one of rural valleys; everytime he refers to it as (outside of) San Fransisco, I cry in the inside.
Haha oops! Sorry! What should I refer it as?

Loved the highway 👌
There really isn't any desert that is close to San Fransisco.
Maybe not a desert per say, but especially in summer there are some super dry lands.

I would love to see like a sleepy surf town on the ocean somewhere! Take Santa Cruz CA for an example
I know I subscribed to an oldschool looking surf shop on the workshop...imagine that being the centerpiece of some funky beach/surf town...
Awesome!
Loved it

I care about all comments 🙂 especially when they’re like this. Thanks for the kind words and supporting the channel!
Thats the kind of gifts I like for a birthday!
This map is really really gorgeous
like to see some abandoned buildings on the outskirts. Like overly rapid expansion that resulted in empty warehouses etc
Thanks for inspiring us
two dollars twenty, who do you go for in the footy. Up the Dons. Essendon is the best. Go Bombers!
Love marble mountain
Love this series!
Lovely stuff
I feel like not enough got done but what did get done was good
Fucken smashed like before the ad even finished
On another road out of the city you should do somthing like wheeler ridge CA,
Near bakersfeild near the interchange of the 99 and the I-5
The path in the middle of the highway reminds me of an abandoned/disused rail line.
like always a owesome episode, loved the interchages , keep it up.
i love how you say Los Angels
Yay new video ♥️
I like your videosThere awesome
Good all Australian internet, I'm still waiting for the NBN in my area.
For that small town, could you please take a look at Warwick, a small town South of Toowoomba in Queensland. Something similar would look great.
yay!!
In the next few episodes, you should build the airport for Marble Mountian

You don’t have to repeat what you’re planning on doing that many times🙄
First

Stop referring to the California valley as San Francisco!
>be me
>30 years old
>Look at this City
>Look at my City
>deinstall game
>cry a lot
and thats how i stop playing Cities Skylines
Your "city" doesn't look or will function like a city.
