Somewhere outside of the city (but still nearby) you should build a large strip-mall style commercial district. Something with one or two large stores, with many smaller stores and restaurants around it. KingLeno has some great props and stores on the Workshop.

What I love about these videos is the absolute aesthetic. The way the music plays into the theme, the LUTs and lighting, everything. Absolutely love it.
I had the weird shadow problem too, but i decided to re-install all of my mods, and it was gone. Try looking for the small mods that arent made by the "Original" creators and look for the comments, on the mod page to see if somebody found out the problem :)
I have had the shadow flickering problem before, when I used rush hour and ultimate eyecandy (only once or twice). Maybe try disabling ultimate eyecandy or any other mod that could affect the shadows also, I have had this problem many times in the asset editor, and I think it was because of ultimate eyecandy or a mod that changed the time
I just started trying to do a detailed city for the first time and it's very reassuring to hear that these videos take you 4-10 hours. I spent probably an hour yesterday just trying to place pavement decals to make a tiny duplex parking lot (forgetting that there are mods to make actual working ones lol)
Dude loving this series I think it’s your best one yet. Also I love how Montahna City is looking so far as it’s so different to my home town London (UK) To me the city is unique and I can’t wait until you start working on the neighbouring regions of Marble Mountain
The reason why you have icons for tram tracks at the train station is because you drew two small connector bits before running the line thru there. Delete the main line temporarily, remove the connector bits, then redraw the line thru the station 😁

I haven't experienced flashing shadows and I think it may be a graphics mod like eye candy or the main theme aside from that I love this series and keep up the great work
The City Hall / Government Center (?) at the beginning was awesome, but needs a bit more parking. Those types of buildings have a lot of people working at them, and visiting throughout the day.

Hey $2.20. About your northern US style city, you should maybe try Toronto. It is not in the United States but it is the largest city in Canada. I think it is very unique and exiting. I hope you are fond with the idea!
Toronto is just a huge grid, but I would love to see some inspiration from the distinct cultural neighborhoods and of course a ton of ancient streetcars.
You can always move to Arizona since you don’t like the cold that much, the lowest it gets is 30° at night and the high is like 60-70° during the day. (Fahrenheit)
New York gets "so cold in winter" LMFAO! Come visit Minnesota in January and February and you'll have a whole new meaning to the term "so cold in winter".
shadow problem isn't new. if you watch other cities skylines people, you can see the same thing. It's just a shadow resolution thing, and while it is annoying it's easy to tune out because it's just how the game works imo.
The shadows can be maybe flickering because of the time mod becuse the sun is like rubberbanding back and forward because its like glued on the selected time but is still trying to go forwards in time but then is like corrected by the mod and thats repeading like every second

i noticed it on mine in almost the exact same way, though i noticed it in mine with the ruined texture along segments of highway (nodes not uncommon). i turned off post process, but recently subbed tree control exchanging it from tree rotation as it has that feature built into it so idk for now.
That happens to my game sometimes. It's been like that for years tho. I'm thinking you might want to mess around with the shadow settings. It usually does the trick for me.

Well, the neighborhood is (or looks) empty in certain areas of China only because the construction is just complete or not even complete, you have to give people some time to move in gradually, possibly 3-5 years. For a moment I thought you are talking about forbidden city, and then I saw the picture, realized you are taking about abandon “city”. I can't deny that their exist abandon neighborhood, but certainly is not a city scale, least for Chinese, its just a neighborhood size and a really small neighborhood indeed. If you really want to see complete abandoned cities, go to Russia, where you would see people abandon the enitre city after the fall of soviet. As for advise traveling to China, I don't recommend to see the concrete buildings at all, travel to southern china where the people still living in traditional old cities which the city layout is identical to almost thousand years ago, or rural historial building that stands on the ground for more than 5 centuries. Due to globalization the modern concrete building all looks some what simmilar and city design focus more of convenient than traditional ethnic aesthetic. If you are intrest to see some traditional city layout for Chinese that remains its identity since before industrial revolution, reply to me, I can give you some my personal recommendation.

I really like the idea of the parking road assets because the parking lots as parks thing bothered me almost as much as the pocket cars. So I have just a couple questions about them. I saw that you placed a few pf the parking roads that you did not physically connect to the road network; will cars still park there or will you have to use prop cars to fill them out? secondly, if you don't place down those painted parking spots decals will cars still park on those streets, or will they ignore them? Lastly and this is not related to parking; when you are building your 'vanilla' city like this do you pay any attention to the RCI indicators? or are you just building to what you want to work on? Thanks, and the city is really coming along
Hello :) those parking lots will still attract cars as they are parking lot buildings. Sometimes I paint down just the decals and they won’t attract cars. I’m only paying little attention to the RCI indicators atm while I build up the city. Once it’s a bit bigger I’ll be trying to make the city super happy
So if you are making a North American style city, instead of basing it off of Detroit, can you base it off of my hometown, Toronto, Canada? Otherwise if you do base it off of Detroit, you should add in the Canadian border

I have it also in my city and maybe its by the movement of the sun. Shadows must be adjusted al the time. Thats why its flickering.
You and Pres should create a city. I think you two will make my eyes tear.
Reduce shadow distance to increase shadow quality. I'd advice to use "far" only and not "very far". They should flicker less.

The shadow flickering I think is a feature that the timing was messed up for. My computer is a potato so have shadows turned off.
