it still has a cross plane engine, similar to BMW's standard 50i V8 found in the M550/850,X5,X6,and X7 50i models (N63). The difference in tone you are hearing is due to the exhaust manifolds on the M version of this V8 engine (S63). Both engines are a hot-vee, and the exhaust and turbochargers are on top of the engine in the middle of the valley. They are largely identical, however the M5 has split exhaust manifolds that intertwine, taking from both sides of the engine (2 exhaust ports from the left, and 2 exhaust ports from the right side of the engine, per turbocharger.) evenly mixing the pulses giving it a sound more akin to two inline-4 engines/flat plane sound. somewhat like equal length headers. The standard BMW V8 (N63) is the same hot-vee layout, however the manifolds are completely divorced. Each turbo only receives exhaust ports from the side of the engine it's on, and there is no exhaust crossover between the two sides of the engine. This gives it the traditional cross-plane rumble, like two separate headers on a traditional V8 engine. If you want a BMW with more of a muscle sound, get a 50i V8 model. If you want the flat-plane sound, like this M5, get one of the M powered V8 cars. Personally I really enjoy the sound of the M550i over the M5. I hope this clears it up for some people
10.5 @ 137 for a family car 🤯 imagine what the new m5 CS will be capable of..

Great video ! You’re a great driver beautiful car just picked up the new m5 comp …. It’s a illegal race car out the box lol
Do the newer model m5s have a flat plane v8? Doesn't sound like a regular cross plane.

@@XcoolcoolbeansbeansX Wow, thanks for sharing that. Didnt know a manifold design would have an effect on engine sound, thats pretty interesting.
What color is that m5 specifically?
It's Marina Bay Blue

MSR Intakes, downpipes and a E30 Tune. He’s ran 10.1 @ 137 mph before. Tires are pretty worn and the track prep isn’t that great
