      jean de la croix "Older" is more apt than "old," so I give you much credit. Such spirit as is hers knows the pangs and pleasures of growth, yet ever ripens.

      James Rockford why ? Look at Picasso for exemple, he started by mastering the technique and made it totally perfect and then he developed his own style
      The change is not so drastic here but it seems Hahn's style is changing, though her technique is still perfect

    If you can imagine growing up with your mother playing this piece in the living room, you can imagine my childhood. And she continued playing till she couldn't play to the highest level, when she was 96. Now when I hear the violin, it's liking hearing my mother in the room, singing to me through the violin music she so masterfully played. It brings me joy, and tears to my eyes, and an a heavy heart knowing I shall never see her again.

    Hilary Hahn's greatest talent is the ability to give every note and detail of a piece its due. She never overlooks anything for the sake of passion or drama. And, yet, she never wants for that drama either, because as she plays a piece so straight the piece's own drama shines that much brighter.

      The Frankfurt radio symphony orchestra is one of the finest I have ever heard. The musicians are totally focused on what they are doing, and how to improve what they are doing every day. This is a rare attitude even amongst the leading orchestras but inevitable if you want to stay at the top. So good luck to your father that he has this tremendous opportunity. And under Andrés Orozco-Estrada, the orchestra is climbing new heights with every project. So much love and passion for the best of all music!

    I had the good fortune of meeting Ruggiero Ricci and his wife Julia in 1999 when he was performing in Malaysia. We had 3 meals together and upon being asked he replied that Hilary Hahn was among the best of her generation. I had a vinyl of his rendition of this concerto and he graciously autographed for me. I thanked him profusely. i dedicated a poem for him. Me, a fiddler, not a true violinist--domiciled in Melbourne. First heard Bruch's Number 1 in 1960 as an arts undergrad at University of Malaya--60 years ago! Best wishes to all music lovers! We need music in this perilous time. Isn't Hilary marvellous?

It was such a painful aspect of my life for so long, yet I’m only realizing how rewarding it was after I’ve put it down for good. Thinking about all the time I spent trying to perfect this piece and hating myself over it hurts but also makes me smile. Music was really all I had. And it’s still so beautiful, enough to keep me up. Now I’m here listening to it in full for the first time in years. It’s 2 am.

    This has to be one of the best ever performances of this incredible concerto. Whoever thinks Hilary Hahn is technically brilliant but plays without emotion - watch this and eat your heart out! I was in bits for most of and I've heard many recordings, ever since I was a child and my father, who was a violinist, would play early recordings and flood our house with its awesome power to stir the soul. Astonishing performance by all here.

      I honestly never understand why some people dislike her playing because of a lack of emotion. Are they intimidated merely for the music being played almost perfectly? Are they confusing her music with her supposedly "robotic" stage presence? I will never get it. Each of her notes is full to the brim, to perfection of which I can bawl my eyes out, completely overwhelmed by the eargasm..., and people will go on to say that she sounds like a machine. Yes, if a machine can make me cry like a little bitch then I will take it over any human musician anyday

      Hilary a “machine? No. The influence of the media harping on robotics and AI may be seeping into the zeitgeist. But these critics overlook her body language and subtleties that need no excessive facial expression. As a musician myself I see her capacity to concentrate on the music itself. Recently I read that we in this gory twenty first century have much to learn from 19th century composers like Bruch, like Mendelssohn. And it was finding Ms Hahn performing the Mendelssohn that awakened my core being. How can I keep writing folk-blues and rock and roll with the knowledge that a being as sublime as Hilary Hahn lives among us?

      I once forwarded a youtube of HH performing the Mendelssohn to a sick friend who happens to be a side person in a well known

    To some, perfection is a flaw, or something false. But this is real. How is it possible to produce such a beautiful, musical, shimmering sound without fuss and without thrashing around? Well look at her hands. Especially her left hand. A simple, unflustered, perfect position on nearly every note. Everything is balanced, inch perfect, with amazingly efficient movements. No drama, no scratching, no over-playing, no ugly sounds. Just pure unadulterated direct musicality delivered with disarming simplicity that hides years and years of fantastic training and musical intelligence. Just watching and listening to her is worth a hundred lessons.

Maybe I am the biased one ;).For another example, I absolutely love hearing Ray's Mendolssohn Violin concerto and Sumina's too, but someone may critic it and say that it was too blunt and such. Also, Maxim was "young" at that time and has probably grown so much in experience and in knowledge. If you have seen the Menhuen competition master classes, A boy plays the Carmen Fantasies and actually, Vengerov tells the prodigy to relax.
      It's just my opinion and im not a violinist (oboist and pianist) so yea ;-)

    Hilary Hahn is incredibly gifted and she knows how to behave i.e. she has impeccable good manners ... her mother and father deserve great credit for nurturing her talent and producing a wonderfully rounded human being ... she should be the supreme role model for young girls and she is America's best living ambassador bar none (I am British) ... oh, and thank God for TH-cam!

    The great ones make it look so easy, and that's what's always impressed me about Hilary Hahn. She rips through those incredibly difficult fingerings looking like she's barely trying.

      Which classical musician doesn't do this? Facial expression doesn't count btw. I believe this is one of those things were a lack of knowledge in the specific field creates some kind of almost superstitious belief. Sorry but I'm just putting this theory out there. Show me a counter example.

      Pew TheBIind As a 35+ year musician myself, I can tell you without batting an eyelash that when you're "in the zone" you aren't one whit concerned about how people perceive your physical body, assuming you are well dressed and not gyrating uncontrollably.

      @TheM4rster 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Floren
      Yes? ...so? Who claimed that? I didn't. He didn't.
      His claim was that "great ones" like Hilary play difficult stuff making it look easy. I claimed that anyone who plays difficult stuff well makes it look easy.

    • @BrucknerMotet
      @BrucknerMotet 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Pew TheBIind I wasn't making a new claim. I was just agreeing with and adding to your comment that facial expressions don't count. I did this to affirm your claim and to further your cause (i.e., educating the ignorant). As you may know, critiquing top musicians' physical movements (and their looks) is a big subgenre in the online classical music community. I'm more interested in hearing than seeing, so I wouldn't care if Ms. Hahn were dressed in tin foil and garbage bags and hanging upside down from a trapeze, as long as she were still able to produce the same audio output.

    09:10 Adagio. Exquisita interpretación de la adorable Hilary Hahn, muy bien acompañada por una orquesta que con un director entregado, se deja seducir por la grandiosidad de esta obra sublime del romanticismo de Max Bruch.
    17:30 Finale. Poderoso, colosal, enérgico colofón de este magnífico concierto. BRAVO !!!!

    Hilary plays so well WITH the orchestra. There are passages where she's really immersing herself in that wall of sound behind her. And those charming eye exchanges with the conductor and the first violins.
    Had the great privilege of seeing and hearing her at the Barbican some years ago. I think it was the Britten concerto. She even threw in some exquisite Bach at the end as an encore. If my memory serves me well, she was standing in (at very short notice) for Lisa Batiashvilla. Hard to image Hilary standing in for ANYONE! Wonderful artist :-)
