Chloe is 16 now.
Her first CD came out last month. It is a live recording of a 70 minute concert she gave last year - likewise leading the orchestra throughout - when she was 15.
Her musical development has continued at an astonishing rate.

She's able to conduct a world class orchestra with just her body language, fully controlling the tempo and temperament with her powerful playing, and quite frankly left the accompaniment in the dust AS A CHILD. I am thrilled that I'm allowed to witness the blossoming of a prodigy!

Even now rewatching this, watching her gracefully dance across the strings as a musical angel...I'm left in goosebumps, chills and tears. Her musical talent has always been far beyond her years but I'm so grateful that we've had the opportunity to be blessed by her presence.

Five years later, Chloe is artist in residence with a world class orchestra. Her first cd has been out six months, with three more to follow next year - and, rightly so, her most recent performances have just slipped behind a (very modest) YT paywall.
She has so much to give.

I was speaking of the new membership scheme on the YT channel of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), with whom Chloe is the artist in residence.
At present only Chloe's truly amazing performance with them earlier this year of Bruch's first violin concerto--it has come as quite a shock to me--is uploaded, but more uploads will follow in due course (none of her recent performances with them of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante, Mozart's third violin concerto, and Paganini's first violin concerto having as yet been made available, and her performance with them next month of the Butterfly Lovers violin concerto being still to come).
Membership is just SGD2 a month, and gives unlimited access to the uploaded videos.
Chloe's Bruch was uploaded on Saturday and I have already listened to it many times. There are other SSO performances to which membership gives access, but for the moment I am so captivated by Chloe's performance that I haven't yet listened to any.
I feel that SGD2 per month is a very small price to pay to express support for Chloe and the SSO (that in turn fosters her remarkable development).
Membership can be cancelled any time and the monthly payment is taken by direct debit. Signing up to it couldn't be easier. Details are in the descriptions/pinned comments of the Bruch clips that have just been posted on the SSO's channel (and, I presume, under the channel's membership tab.

she’s amazing. what a privilege it is for her to also have had someone that recognized her talent and knew how to nourish it. i often wonder how many children would be capable of similar feats if born in the right circumstances. she is obviously anointed and so gifted but also very lucky.
When Chloe gave this incredible performance, she was just an ordinary pupil in ordinary primary school. Some of her classmates didn't even know she played violin.
Sure, she had been helped a lot by the fact that her (wonderful) mother Englee Lim is a pianist. But hundreds of thousands of musicians the world over have children, and the tuition Chloe has received is in a sense no different from that given to literally millions of children: she just had lessons a couple of times a week (from the Nanyang Academy).
It is true that her teacher there since she was 4, Yin Ke, has done a superb and amazing job too. But it works both ways. The privilege of teaching someone with such monumental natural talent, with such a pure love for the violin, and with such iron-clad dedication to her Art, must have been one of the greatest experiences of his life.
Very, very few children have ever displayed such enormous musical gifts at an early age as did Chloe, only for those gifts to go unrecognised. Even at the age of 2, after her mother's piano students had finished their lesson and left, she would point out mistakes they had made!! At the age of 4 she decided to switch from the piano, which she had been learning since she was 2, to the violin, because she felt she could express herself better with it!!

@@NanamahjiycI think the point was that a lot of children could be prodigies in fields that go undiscovered because they never had the chance to try. Some children don’t have parents that would/can pay for lessons or instruments. Or they just never thought to have their child try.
Her talent might have gone undiscovered if she hadn’t been lucky enough to have the circumstances that she did. No one is saying she isn’t naturally gifted.

When you see everyone in the orchestra sitting down like that and you see her as the only one standing up, it is a very rare position in orchestra which symbolizes respect from everyone in the orchestra when they are in the presence of a virtuoso.

Some of yall acting like it would be embarrassing to be a background player to a nine year old. I would be hella honored to even play with any talented player like chloe even if she was 3 years old. The background players are also very talented.if they weren't they wouldn't be playing with her at all. To the people who are acting like it's an insult to play with a nine year old I bet you cant even play a scale correctly. Grow up and enjoy and acknowledge the hard work she has put into this.

@Rick. All you mentioned is talent. There's no one in the world that could master anything only by having "talent" or gifted or prodigy. They're all need to work hard on it. But a talented person, will developed more quickly than other person that are not talented. Because their brain are gifted from a person that already mastered and passionated to specific things.
Easiest is to see Matthew 25 : 14 - 30. It's the perfect example case of someone that has talent and no talent and the correlation with hard work

@@ramzabeoulve7284 Well it is the hard truth, that nobody is born equal starting with wealthy or poor families they are born in, or being born with disability or with better ability to memorize or to be able to use logical thinking or understading and learning things faster. So it is the 100% truth what you say, but you know nowadays it is not polcorrect to say that people are not equal by birth... it is unfortunately such time we live in. Life is not easy, we have to accept the fact, we came to this world differently, yes the abilities can be improved by better environment, richer or educated parents behind the kid, but I know example, when somebody was born in "perfect" family, yet they have failed to show up any talent, or they had terrible personality which led them to being a negative example.

This performance is truly historic.
It will be cherished and beloved for as long as classical music exists.
I got to know this young lady through 2SetViolin's channel where they refer to her as Professor Chloe. That obviously lead to this video. Both pieces blew me away completely. The confidence she has and the beautiful tone, it was simply breathtaking for me. I have heard Vivaldi so many times, but this was extraordinary. What a huge talent! I hope she will have a bright future.
Chloe is the SSO's artist in residence for 2022-23.
She is recording with them the complete orchestral works by Mozart for solo violin (3 cds) and also a cd of Vivaldi's "Four Season" + Locatelli's "Harmonic Labyrinth" concerto. The cds are to be released in 2023 and 2024.
She is performing Bruch's violin concerto #1 with them, and also Mozart's concertos #3 and #4, in the first three months of 2023.
Things are going extremely well for her!

Not only is she playing well herself but she is making sure she is playing along with the orchestra as well, you can see her turn towards certain people to cue, she understands the importance of playing as a group and working together.

She is still just a student at the Nanyang Academy (who until she started home schooling recently was also a pupil in secondary school).

They don’t seem to realise that this is a competition and the first piece is compulsory for all the finalists. The real music comes on after the first piece. @@penultimania4295 I unirocally like it, and not for those reasons. In a sense, it's got a nice "sharp"effect. I can understand why people will hate it, but I disagree.
Here's a hot take: Some pieces of music aren't meant to sound "good" ... Shocking, I know. Imagine if critics dictated whether or not something was popular based on it's subjectivity. We wouldn't have abstract art otherwise. Abstract music is the same. Art NEEDS experimentation and artists have a responsibility to break out of the box of "good" and into the space of creativity and exploration. Everything considered "good" was once considered horrific. Rock is great example of this. Auteur film is another. Keep an open mind, maybe one'll surprise oneself.

Of all the performances I've carefully listened to, this is the closest one to perfection.
Playing the violin aside. What makes her unique is that she's very cool, calm & well balance, her every little movement & expressions all perfectly "Package" into her performance... Nothing too much & nothing less.

11 year old Chloe Chua not only giving us the best version of winter ever.. but looking like an angel in doing so..❤
It is a an other awesome side of the existence of Internet that it makes so easy to access classical music for anybody now. Before the Internet it was much harder, people had to buy vinyl record, casette tapes and if they could make time then going to live concert, which was luxury for the most as these are usually held in the capital city. Later people could watch classical music on designated TV channels, but it was not so common access for anybody either. Nowadays we can even follow the progress and performances of these young talents so easily thanks to the Internet.
When she is focused her expression is so deadly serious. Like someone way beyond her years. But when relaxed between performances her smile is like that of any 10 year old. The contrast is so cool & funny.

Not really. There are so many pieces that I’ve even unintentionally memorized. Playing from memory is the easiest part of this. Her technique and intonation, however, is what’s really astounding. She plays with the maturity of someone 5 times her age. Absolutely magnificent. 🔥
@@frostyarchaea8794 idk about you but for me as a child memorization was difficult in every aspect whether it was music or math or anything in between because that was she is a child so for her to memorize these pieces it is indeed astounding
@@aaronduan1939 Probably just needed a little more practice tbh. I didn’t touch a violin for 2 or 3 years. When I finally did again, I realized that I had memorized Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Beethoven’s Egmont and several of Mozart’s divertimenti. I never tried to memorize any of those pieces. My fingers just “knew.”

Our brain even at early ages has the ability to memorise muscle movements - she's eleven in this video which isn't that young anyway (that's not discrediting the sheer amount of hours she would have spent to achieve this). These aren't movements of only one piece though, these are single movement performances. She is doing one movement of several different pieces, from different musical periods. The point is to demonstrate her ability to effectively play different period styles. Clapping after each piece is appropriate here.
The first piece that she plays, sounds completely different music to other’s. She’s so connected to the sound, it’s amazing to see how she understands the music. She knows so well what nuances and textures to make. Incredible. It’s like she’s alone there, communicating with the sound through her violin.

"She understands" - This is true. Listen to her interview with MediaCorp Symphony 924. She talks about music like I never heard before. Very light and natural and yet deep.

All parents do that. They go to work to back up their children. Obviously, this kind of child needs more time to take care of... more energy, patience, understanding. Not everyone can have a prodigy at home. And so many prodigies didn't have the opportunity to bloom because of that.

Actually Chloe was 11 when she gave this performance. But everything else you say is still true. She is _very_ special.
In the finals there were no conductor which means the soloist had to cue the orchestra with body language. This is one of the greatest performances of all time.

I was not there but she was a little surprised by the applauses in between movements which are not customary in classical music and the public was definitely aware but they could not resist the charm of this young violinist who would win joint first prize with that performance!

Her concerts are typically sold out within a few days of ticket release. So do keep a look out or subscribe to SSO for more updated information. Fortunate to have got tickets for her Bruch concerto previously but couldn't get the Paganini one in time. Looking forward to her 梁祝 performance.
Chloe's performances of The Butterfly Lovers on 10 and 11 November are already sold out, but there are tickets still available for the recital she is to give in the Victoria Concert Hall on 5 and 6 January 2024.
The recital promises to be a fabulous _tour de force_ , the programme including Paganiniana (finally!), Tartin's "Devil's Trill" and Vitali's Chaconne - and if I lived anywhere near Singapore I wouldn't miss it for the world.
