just because i'm obsessed with orange caramel, a little background on the song catalenna is that it's about the commodification of women and how they changed and became part of the industry that originally commodified them (they were fish in the ocean, turned into sushi, and then consumed themselves). orange caramel is also a sub-unit of after school, so there's three of them in this group, but there were more of them in their parent group. i think as a song, it's the most recognizable due to the widely spread meme, but likely not a great song to start off with because it's certainly an acquired taste.
i think after school's first love would be an interesting one for new viewers, or just any after school song in general if sticking specifically to that group. they were something totally new every time. nice video !
Oh okay so whilst there's three in this group and this song they're also a part of a bigger group too at some point? That's pretty cool, I actually did love the imagery and the way they portrayed stuff it was incredibly creative :D

I feel like these weren't the best songs to introduce kpop as a whole and it's potential.
Totally understand the comment here. I guess my thinking, I was looking for new themes for the series. This is now episode 19 overall and maddys 2nd so I wanted to give her something different. I do understand where you coming from and i thank you for your feedback 😊

Got to remember that all of this isn't Maddys regular music. Bts do a lot more English than the other 2 groups in this episode so she's not totally wrong here 😅

This was the first k-pop song I'd been exposed to that was fully in english rather then just snippets and I was surprised. I don't listen to k-pop but when it pops up on social media BTS is the one I see the most so for me BTS are the one band that for me seem to do the most english content😅 so yep 👍
BTS only have 3 songs in English and all their songs in korean have deep lyrics with deep meaning and their English songs are for positive and happy vibe for the covid pandemic. They also have Japanese version of their korean songs and few Japanese songs that also have deep lyrics with deep meaning.
Ahhhh that's cool, the song itself did seem very direct and cheery. Do they always do multiple versions of their songs and stuff and bounce between languages and genres?
@@MaddyFlahertyTV most of their songs are in Japanese and Korean they actually have quite a few of English song with a collaboration of various western artist. Sorry for my English🤧
Actually BTS has different music for everyone but PTD was a bright song for ppl experiencing tough time during the pandemic

Think I've been exposed to about 5 different k-pop groups BTS being the biggest one for me, so it's cool that there's more groups that create english content and stuff, my opinions aren't facts ahaha for me BTS had the most english songs because that's just what I've listened to... but yh that's cool what other groups are there then?
The same 7 members since the beginning. They came together between 2010 and 2012 and then debuted in 2013.
They struggled to get played in the West with their more serious work in mainly Korean, so they’ve made 3 all-English, very poppy songs… and that has kinda worked. Hopefully it will encourage more people to dive into the deep end with their huge and highly creative body of work.
The latest album ‘BE’ was a response to the pandemic. It’s not all as cheery as PTD.
BTS have said this song was for their fans, named ARMY, and it was a keep on what you’re doing because this will end. It’s in English because Ed Sheehan was the writer, and because English is the prominent language in the world right now, more people would ‘understand’ the words.

catalenna is the worst song to show to someone if you want to get them into kpop, this something for people who are already into kpop and know how it works. If this was my introduction to kpop i prolly wouldn't be a kpop fan by now
