Bought one two months ago and absolutely love it!!! Such a great, quality built gun. Extremely pleasant to shoot for a 10mm and extremely happy with the accuracy. As with the grip safety, I honestly do not even notice it while shooting the gun. I actually like the purpose of it cause I usually always have my guns loaded. So just a small but effective safety feature. So when firing, I’ve never had it cause an issue, get in the way, felt it, etc. I just don’t even notice it while shooting. So if a person was to NOT purchase this gun or one like it because of any concerns of the grip safety, they would be massively selling the gun short and would be making a big mistake in my opinion. In fact, I love this gun so much I am going to purchase another just to have a second one.
@@patriciamercer9960 I can't speak on the elite series, but as an original xdm 40 compact owner, I've never had a single issue with it. So, if the concern is grip safety, there is definitely no issue.
Note that this gun, and the full size models, throw the brass over 25-35 feet between the 3 and 5 o'clock positions. First time I shot it, in a range or outside, I could only recover about 20% of my brass. As it was nickel Starline brass, it was like throwing a roll of quarters away each time I shot it. Many reviews never mention this.

I have an XDM 5.25 that I love. 10mm is my favorite round. So a compact XDM is music to my ears. I was holding out on getting a Glock 29 hoping they would come out with an MOS. Plus, they have the Hellcat sights.
I have an XDM elite 4.5" 9mm and its one of my softest shooting. Perhaps the reason is because its one of the heavier polymers guns and I think that weight comes from a very noticeable ruggedness to the build quality. Heavy stainless steel guide rod. Everything is really solid.
FWIW I purchased the XDM .45ACP Bi-tone two months after initial release {premium price lol}. The 230gr recoil impulse feels softer than my gen 4 G19, but not as soft as gen 2 G17.
Just purchased the 9mm this past Thursday. When to the range this morning to shoot off a few rounds, outstanding. This will be one of my main CC. Outstanding shooting pistol
Just put my first 300 rounds through mine, and this moved to the top of my favorites. Pros: sits well in the hand, not too light or too heavy. Good visible sights, even with my bad eyesight. Flared magwell is great. Slide release is well sized and easy to use. One of the best striker fire triggers. Ran S&B FMJ as well as an assortment of hot underwood loads 135g and 200g JHP, and even 220gr hard cast. Handled all flawlessly. Seemed to like the mid-weights best (200gr followed by 180 gr). Then the 135's and didnt care too much for the 220's. My only con is the sights were low and left. The sights are dovetailed to drift for being left but will have to go more 12 o clock hold for the elevation. Will likely wind up with a reflex or laser anyway.

When SA released the FS XDM 10mm I commented that they needed to do a compact CC version and man am I glad they did. I had a model 29 and truthfully with medium sized hands no pun intended it was a handful and well gen 4s do not exactly have the greatest grip surface so it was not a overly manageable pistol as it wants to jump out of your hands when running full house defensive loads. I have owned several models of XD pistols over the years and have had a couple SA1911 models as well and they have all served me very reliably. The thing I loved about the XD line was it was ergonomically comfortable and ambi control from the jump it just fit so well in my hand. I bought a Gen 1 upon launch and I do regret having sold it but I have owned several models since. I just end up trading up on something different because unfortunately I am a working man with tons of financial responsibilities and cannot just continuously buy and keep the latest and greatest that I think I will want. That said when I buy this pistol it is going to stay in the lineup permanantly as it has been a long wait for a compact 10 that is ergonomically feasible for me. I have 3 purchases to make the new Steyr 9mm compact, the XDM 10mm compact, and a Shield plus performance center micro. After I have those I will work on rebuilding my collector grade inventory there is an Atlas in my future, and hopefully the Mrs. will feel generous so I can get an Alien too. Happy wife happy life. Unfortunately that requires getting the new house built first.
Great review! We reviewed it as well and it is SWEEET! I'm adding the 15 round magazine and this will be on my hip for every backcountry trip from here on out.
I recently added the S&W 10mm 4.6 and the XDM 10mm to my growing collection of centimeters. I like both, but I don’t consider the Springfield trigger to be “Match Grade”. Maybe I just need to put more rounds through it. Now that the SIG P320 10mm is out as well as a full size XDM, I’m going to have a hard time deciding which 10’s I’m going to take to the range!
SOOTCH - Thanks as always for a great review! I don't know how, but you always manage to read my mind. As soon as I see a new product, I think "I need a review on that." And... you have what I'm looking for!
A hefty 10mm as a compact? Why would you do that to you? … because you CAN!!! Looking so forward to get my hands on one of these little suckers. Thanks for the review!
I am really glad to finally see a direct competitor to the Glock 29 on the market! The Glock is a great pistol but I agree that it does feel “blocky” in the hand. It is nice to see Springfield coming out with this and including addition features like an optics cut. It just gives consumers more options which is a good thing. I know there are other compact 10’s out there like the EAA Witness P Compact 10mm, but I didn’t include it as a competitor because I have never really been a fan of safeties on DA/SA pistols. I really like DA/SA pistols that are decocker only though! To me, adding a safety takes away the benifit that DA/SA gives you. But that is just my opinion.
Thanks for this! ive been waiting for the Elite to have a 10mm option for a while now. I have the 4.5 XDM in 10mm and it is the single best pistol I own. My biggest issue with it as the trigger. When I got my hands on the 4.5 9mm the issues I had with the XDM were addressed and the first words out of my mouth were "10mm when?" and now in one step closer. I will DEFFITELY be picking up the compact too.
Well... that solves it! I've been thinking either Glock 20/29 or XDM 10mm/Glock29. Now I know. I love the ergonomics of the XDM: I'm excited to try the META trigger. Looks like Springfield is going to be selling two new pistols soon! (holding breath for an XDM Elite 10mm - 5.25)!!!
There's nothing special about the trigger on my xds but for some reason I shoot tighter groups with that than the shield or canik. Lots of people knock the xd line but I love mine and carry it often
Xdm has been torture tested with 10,000 hot loads and didnt have a jam. I wouldnt care if the owner himself knocked it, its been tried and true and in Alaska up here the XDM 10 is gaining steam over the Glock 20.
Very nice review! Great content. I have both the Springfield XD-S and XD-E .45. Outstanding firearms. Smallest and one of the most reliable in its class! Love your 10mm pistol!
I have this in the 5.3” OSP, imo the carry ammo should be 135 or 150 grains, there’s quite a bit of ammo in that range still getting over 600 ft lbs in a shorter barrel. XDM is way better than crappy Glocks, never had a jam or fte with my XDM but Glock 40 is a different story.
I have own XD's. Had to have the new 10 elite. Now iv never had an issue with Springfield. But this 10 had a trigger issue. It would not in gage. Took it apart and it worked. Nothing broken and I have been shooting guns for 40 yrs. This tore me up. It's gone tomorrow.
@@patriciamercer9960 there great guns. I run both my elites with all types of different ammo and hsbe never had 1 malfunction. I like Springfield armory alot tho as well.
@@usernamesrlamo wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Watch videos of the ballistic results and it will show u how great it is. The round is like a 45 but better. Do a lil research. There’s many videos of those bullets.
2400 FPS is nothing like a .45. The big danger comes if the bullet fails to expand, which happens in real life far more often than gel because things like clothing or dense tissue can clog the hollow. When this happens (or you simply miss the target or it ricochets) that bullet can travel very long distances or through barriers much like a rifle round. I’d stick to using this round for hunting or bear defense.
FN should chamber the FNX-45 in 10mm, also would be cool if somebody made a lever gun chambered in 10mm that could also shoot 40cal, 10rnds of 10mm or 20rnds of 40cal if that is even possible.
Love seeing a new 10mm compact come out to give ya some options if your looking for one but I'm sticking with the g29. Just dont like the looks of those slide serrations & the g29 feels good in the hand .
Really? I think the slide serrations and ergonomics are vastly improved in this pistol vs G29. However I think the Glock has the advantage of proven long term durability and after market parts and support. I definitely want one but still making up my mind which one!
I wish I agreed. I owned the 4.5" full size version of this, the XDM in 10mm. For the same love of the 10mm. But I really just disliked how it felt and shot. Just felt clunky and even a bit cheap. So I bought the Springfield Ronin 1911 in 10mm. Night and day of course, but not a carry gun. Liked that enough to get a Sig 1911 also in 10 -- with a very different character and accessory rail. It then became a home defense pistol. Not having the optic isn't a bad tradeoff. So the hunt continues for a 10mm carry.
C’mon man…Skitch just when I say I’m done buying for the year, Sootch comes along with anyone. Now I have to figure out how to sneak this past the wife into the safe and make it seem like it’s been there all along
Lol. I had to do the same thing haha. I just bought a FN-509 and swore I was done for the year. Then this shows up in my fav caliber. what am I supposed to do? buy it as I did. just waiting for it to arrive. damn guns are addictive. but the security of knowing I have 22 rounds of 10mm on me for personal protection. Magtech is they main one to offer more powerful range ammo than .40 for the 10mm, if you’re going for full power rounds Underwood and Buffalo Bore are going to be the places to get 10mm at
15:10 I'm so happy to see this. To tell you the rude truth, I HATE how those grip extensions pinch the hell out of my pinky finger with my Glock 29. I have a blood filled blister on the pad of my pinky after 1 magazine. Without the extension, the gun is hard to shoot accurately under stress. I've tried everything to stop it. I'll be switching to this new XD simply because I'll be able to get all 3 fingers on it without leaving the range with injuries. Love it.
I love my G29. It's a brutal tank of a pistol. But it's my first Glock. Literally every handgun I've ever owned has a significantly better feeling grip. Now, the Glock grip is tolerable. If it wasn't I wouldn't have bought the thing but damn. It's so "meh". Love everything else about it though so I look past it. I live in CT so once SA decides to make offer a version with the 10 round base plates, I'll pick one of these up. I'll never sell the Glock but it will be carried less because chances are, I'll like the XDm grip more.
Now I can get rid of my crappy Glock 29 that constantly jams. Love my full size 10mm XDM for woods carry and range day; now it will be nice to have a 10 for concealed carry.
@yourleftnut1 Nah, my wrists were fine. The Glock couldn’t handle the recoil, which explains why I also had to replace the locking block pin, must be the Glock “perfection” we’re always hearing about.
@@xipus08 Yeah, and it’s regardless of the ammo, either hot or regular range ammo. It used to misfeed every two or three rounds and then after a few hundred rounds it was only once every magazine or so. It does it regardless of which magazine I use. I thought it was me at first until several friends and even a couple strangers at the range shot it and it jammed on them too. I also had to replace the locking block pin as it would “walk out” after a few rounds. Thankfully I traded it in this past weekend. No longer my problem.
10mm was what I was shooting during the ammo shortage. Not all 10mm ammo is equal. It’s an awesome round. I have a Glock 40. It’s like a dump truck. This XDM compact looks pretty neat.
Hard enough to find 9mm, 45, or 40. This caliber even harder to get, and too expensive. Plus can never forgive the sleazy thing that Springfield did a few years back.
10mm is and has been on every gun store shelf since the fake sickness started. Sure it’s a bit more expensive than 9mm but you’re getting a whole ‘nother millimeter!! And there’s ammo literally falling off the shelves everywhere across America. If your local store is out, Drive 15 min to the next one. And don’t go to giant big box stores, support your local small owned businesses, pay the extra cost and help your community. Stop being cheap and selfish.
Just fired new XDM 10 mm compact. Slide is heavier than SW MP 10 mm but recoil is less. NO jams at 100 shots . The 15 round magazine also works same as the 10 shot mags. The flared mag well is only flaw , blocks grip by small finger. The fiberoptic front sight is bright . Fits a K Rounds kydex holster perfectly , same profile as t he other compact XDMs. Good for personal carry , twice the power of the tiny 9mm. T he 9mm brass will drop fully into the 10mm brass, far less powder being used.
If you put your thumb on the striker indicator on the back of the slide when holstering you can feel if something is hitting the trigger, It wont go off as the grip safety isnt pushed it but it will still let ya know, "hey watch it"

Thanks Springfield and sootch00! Just when I thought I was done buying firearms!
SOOTCH - Thanks as always for a great review! I don't know how, but you always manage to read my mind. As soon as I see a new product, I think "I need a review on that." And... you have what I'm looking for!
Thank you Sootch for another quality review! I have the 1911 Ronin in 10mm and just ordered this after watching your review.
10mm compact is the ultimate 90's "man stopper" gun.
Got the "Manstoppers" Vhs in the vault somewhere lol Good Info still applicable to this day
Except it originated in the 80's.... some of us are still jonesing for a Bren Ten.
@@bmiller9456 but 90's is when it got real popular, the first rendition of 10mm was way to powerful.

Powerful caliber, indeed.
And then there are those of us that have a rifle nearby, at all times. Pistols, lol. Good luck.

A hefty 10mm as a compact? Why would you do that to you? … because you CAN!!! Looking so forward to get my hands on one of these little suckers. Thanks for the review!

I just purchased one and I’m in love again. It is so gorgeous and the weight is perfect happy to have another 10mm. Everyone should get one.
Niiiice 👏 Thats a lot of potential in such a small package.
You can make that trigger better. Put a Powder river in mine. Buying this one too though!
@@bunsguns8222 yeah i was gonna contact them to do a custom XDM10 for comp but it might take awhile

Well... that solves it!
Get both.
I'm no trigger expert but from my experience with the meta trigger it's one of the best triggers right out the box.
Look into a XDm 4.5 10mm OSP with the threaded barrel It negates all the recoil. Shooting 1500 fps loads is like shooting my .45acp
@@fight4ourright306 they don't have the 4.5 in 10mm only compact right now
@@marcusgoodwin2772 Yes they do I have the XDM 10mm 4.5 with the 5.3 inch threaded barrel.
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING

I've shot a lot of pistols. BUTTT the spring field xdm is one of the most accurate PISTOLS I've ever shot.

Very nice review! Great content. I have both the Springfield XD-S and XD-E .45. Outstanding firearms. Smallest and one of the most reliable in its class! Love your 10mm pistol!
I don't care where the mf made the guns just work
Just bought this pistol today, so now the wait, I have the XDM in 4.5 and I fricking love it so much I had to get this pistol too!!!
Glock 29 has some competition, bout time .
“I’ll just take both” Amen brother, Amen.
Wow i might have to retire my xd 40 subcompact for this. 10mm could really be a one stop shop imo with ammo variations.

Extreme over penetration, just irresponsible for most CCW situations or home defense. You risk the lives of everyone
Loved my old XDM 3.8 45, always preferred it to the glock. Now that theres a 10mm version? O YEAH!

Okay 👍 I love the 10 MM round. A long time ago I had a Springfield Armory Custom Shop fully ported & full race gun. I have got to get one of these.

Is modern production 10mm ammo much more powerful than 40 cal? I don’t own either so I’m just wondering.
Thank you for the excellent review! You always explain everything thoroughly and straightforward. Well...there is another 10mm to the collection.
I'd need to see the chrony numbers to confirm it's worth buying over my existing .40cal compacts.

I have the xd 3.3 45 acp.How do they compare in recoil?
I have the XDs .45 3.3 - and it is my favorite. I put tritium night sights on it, which is really nice.
The HS 2000 was the first gun I bought back in 2003-2004. I wish I had kept it but I sold it at some point.
Now I can get rid of my crappy Glock 29 that constantly jams. Love my full size 10mm XDM for woods carry and range day; now it will be nice to have a 10 for concealed carry.
Constantly jams?
I just bought one today gonna be good for Minnesota Barry pick
10mm was what I was shooting during the ammo shortage. Not all 10mm ammo is equal. It’s an awesome round. I have a Glock 40. It’s like a dump truck. This XDM compact looks pretty neat.

Looking at ordering this in November! Definitely New carry gun. Love it!!!
I already was a fan of the 3.8" Compact, and now in 10mm?!!
Oh hell yeah. I want.
The grip safety is the main reason I haven't switched. I like it
Hard enough to find 9mm, 45, or 40. This caliber even harder to get, and too expensive. Plus can never forgive the sleazy thing that Springfield did a few years back.
Time to move on period.
Just found one for 630
Just fired new XDM 10 mm compact.

CZ is doing conversions for the 97 to 10mm
If you put your thumb on the striker indicator on the back of the slide when holstering you can feel if something is hitting the trigger, It wont go off as the grip safety isnt pushed it but it will still let ya know, "hey watch it"
