Back in the late 90s, we enrolled our oldest child in Catholic school kindergarten, and so we also switched parishes. The previous parish was a modern building with Roman numerals to represent the stations of the cross and only one stained glass window of Our Lady, no other statues or decorations. The new parish was a 150 year old church with statues for each station, a beautiful high altar and lots of stained glass. I'll never forget the reaction of our small children when we first walked in. They were bowled over by the incredible beauty. We need that beauty to remind us of our true destination, Heaven.
God, You make me lie and sleep. Thank You Jesus for your blood and holy family, grant me the grace to give You all of myself, all of my will, mind, body, and heart. All of my days, all of my possessions, everything I create. Amen. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, & all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, deciding, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand God's voice in the Scriptures that we may revere & treasure both the Old & the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. May our hearts never grow dull & may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Amen.
Lord, You alone deserve all the glory, honor and praise. May everything we say and do be extraordinary by the power of your Holy Spirit. Not to us, but to your name be the glory. Let us not be fooled to think amassing wealth, power and success will help us fight any battles. Everything belongs to you and is under your sovereign control. Help us to be genuinely good, holy, strong and stay near to you. We give any façades we are trying to keep up with to you. 🙏🏻
Thank you father Mike. I am catching up . I absolutely loved these chapters . I found it so powerful Solomons love and adoration For Our Beautiful Lord. Yesterday at church I was looking at the beautiful flowers on the altar and the love and adoration the person put into the display. Oh I love the Lord. God bless all in this community and father Mike and yes that was a beautiful prayer Father Mike ❤️❤️🙏
Thanks Father Mike Schmitz for sharing the Bible in a Year with all of us. It is such a blessing. May the Lord, Our God bless Father Mike and all of us who are in need of prayers and for those who are alone, that no one prays for bless them with the prayers of many.
12:09 Father in heaven, we thank you and give you praise. We thankyou so much for the gift of your word. We thank you for the gift of peace and deliverance, Lord God, because you do, you deliver us from our enemies. Now, even when we're in distress, even when it seems like the world is crashing around us, even when it seems like there are obstacles, and truly there are obstacles in our lives. You make us lie down and sleep. Lord God, when we can't sleep, when we cannot find rest, when our minds are so busy, are so scattered and we feel so stretched, so thin, then we can realize that we need to rely upon your grace and your mercy. God, when we pray, "deliver me from this thorn, deliver me from this trial", you speak to us, the words you spoke to St. Paul, "my grace is sufficient for you". Power's made perfect in weakness. And so, we acknowledge our weakness so we can accept your power. And, we know it's true. Your grace is sufficient for every one of our days, for every one of our moments. And, so we give you praise in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. †
I went recently into a centuries old church in a place called Clare in Suffolk, a lot of these old village churches are open, so I pushed open the huge oak door, and I was the only one in there. So I sat down and sang a hymn as you do ! The old stain glass windows tell their stories, the walls witness to thousands of folks worshipping the King of Kings, the Alpha and Omega. I have recently watched a programme about the pyramids, how in the world did they ever get built? I would love to visit them, there is still some question as to their function. I have started a list ( I am an inveterate list maker) of questions that I would ask God, all these unanswered questions, not least the garden of Eden, I believe was 6 thousand years ago, and yet the scientist talk about life million of years ago. Guess I will have to wait 'till heaven to find out!😀
I love soaking up the atmosphere in truly old churches! I was in a few last year when I was in Yorkshire. The old walls could tell some stories of many good times and bad, that’s for sure! Living in Australia you can’t find any really old buildings as it’s not that long ago that this amazing continent was discovered by the explorers- although the indigenous people have lived here for over 50,000 years! They were nomadic and always respected the land leaving nothing permanent as they moved around.
@@janicemulry8140 Do you know Janice I never liked history when I was at school, but now I am fascinated by all things old. The old churches are kept alive by the faithful few, they look so beautiful in the countryside. Do you have any theories on the garden of Eden? given that we are told all these people existed before that?

May 29, 2023 Round Two Please pray for Souls in Purgatory. Go ahead, just take about 30 seconds to help save a soul that maybe is your family member or friend! Go forth and help save! Here is the prayer: (According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory.) The Prayer of St. Gertrude Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen. God would reply to St. Gertrude that He would use whatever was offered to Him for the faithful departed, according to His inclination to show pardon & mercy.

The deeper we go into the Old Testament the more convinced I become of its historical truth. There are so many small specific details in this that the writers didn’t necessarily have to include but did do anyway. The dimensions and details for the Ark of the Covenant and the Temple of Solomon, the census records, the genealogies. All of these are things that either could have been left out or briefly summarized and the stories would have been just as believable. But instead they fill entire chapters with these details. I can only think of two reasons why they would do this: either the writers were some of the best fiction writers in literary history, or these stories are historically and factualy true. I’m so certain that it’s the later because if these details were simply manufactured by the writers, then they would be opening the Biblical cannon to a whole mess of plot holes that would destroy the narrative.
It is so tragic how we don’t realize we are entering into the holy of holies….perhaps your Church is different but most of the Churches I enter are loud!
I agree. So much of what I was taught, as a Catholic in school, is no longer taught. Why we do things and what things represent? Silence in Church was equal to reverence.
I suggest finding a parish that celebrates the traditional Latin Mass. These parishes typically have a much better understanding of how to reverence themselves amidst the sacred spaces.
7:11-7:25 "There was no more spirit in her." Solomon reminds me of an isekai protagonist in that he is a "common sense breaker" at least for the people at the time. After the queen of Sheba witnessed how out of the norm Soloman was she was exhausted from being amazed by so many wonderous things.

But we have to put up this knitting kind of picture (tapestry?) from this lady. More important to please her. ok. Then there was nothing of interest to look at. As that church was very plain. Just wood everywhere and that was about it. I missed that painting everytime I went there.

Did you find it?
I caught this time that Solomon received 666 (whatever the measure was) of gold a year. Could that be a hint that his wealth was his downfall?
Good question. I wish Fr. Mike would explain it sometime.

Father Mike, I am so confused. Please forgive me for not understanding as this is the first time I am reading the Bible. The Lord tells Solomon to keep His ordinances and yet, Solomon has many wives… isn’t this disobedience? Why was God so harsh on those in previous books of the Bible. If His people did the wrong thing fire would rain, they were left wandering, or were swallowed by the land. His presence was truly felt and now it’s like He’s a background character. Couldn’t He choose someone else to build His house? He wouldn’t let David build the temple because of disobedience, but here we have his son, Solomon, who doesn’t seem to be doing much outside of following David’s directive to build the temple and putting on a “money show”.
