  • 📖 Follow along with the official Bible in a Year Reading Plan: tinyurl.com/y2...
Fr. Mike reinforces the power of God's presence in the Temple, and the importance of worshipping God the way he desires to be worshipped. We also begin to hear how Solomon starts disobeying God and setting himself up for idolatry. Today's readings are 1 Kings 5, 2 Chronicles 7-8, and Psalm 66.
We hear every day from our community how The Bible in a Year helps to capture hearts and souls for Christ. While we’re happy to make it free to our audience, it’s not free to create! It takes a significant investment to produce the podcast and distribute it free-of-cost to the public. You can make a gift of financial support to help defray these costs and enable us to keep bringing evangelizing digital media to all those searching for God: tinyurl.com/y4... Cannot tell you how much I am loving this! I met an Evangelical man a few hours ago and, after referring to the Lord a few times, we talked about Scripture. He commented that there are some good Catholics, but only about 20% know anything about the Bible. I told him I read it and study it every day, so he asked me for my favorite part. I replied that I have been enjoying learning about the Old Testament so that I can better understand the New Testament. He expressed that I "must really be smart" because he found it difficult to understand the OT. I assured him that I am far from a theologian, but have been finding BIAY to be an outstanding tool in helping me to understand. He had his son download the app immediately!
As an aside, I think I am going to stop praying so much for wisdom and start praying more for obedience!

Obedience - Doing what God wants.
Rebellion - Doing what I want.
God does not want the sacrifice of burnt offerings.
God wants the sacrifice of obedience.
Obedience to Gods' Word and His Will.
    Gods' way, not my way.
God has a way, even when I don't see a way.
I pray and ask Him to show me the way, that is His Will, not mine. Then I wait on the Lord, and he answers me. Amen. 🕯

May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, deciding, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand God's voice in the Scriptures that we may revere & treasure both the Old & the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. Father in heaven we give you praise. Ah, you o hear our prayers. God. I mean, every time we talk to you, Lord, You hear our voices. You know the longing of our hearts. You know the depth of our prayer. You also know our distraction. You know how easily we can be distracted from loving you with our whole heart, with our whole mind, with our whole strength. You know how easily it is that we are turned aside from you. And so, we thank you for being able to hear through all the noise, cutting through all of the distraction, cutting through all of the turmoil that our hearts can experience because you know our hearts. You not only know the peace in our hearts, you know the troubled, troubled hearts that live in our chest. And so, we ask you, please once again, let your ears be open, let your eyes be open to see who we are to see us truly, and to hear our voice, and to hear our prayers this day and every day. We make this prayer in Jesus' name. Amen.

Solomon saw wonders from God, the fire coming down from heaven & the glory of the Lord filling the temple such that the priests couldn’t enter, & God spoke to him. He started well, but you don’t see Solomon turning to God like David did. He doesn’t seem to depend on God or seek His counsel like his father did. The foreshadowing comes when Solomon married the daughter of Pharaoh & houses her outside of Jerusalem. Solomon’s heart will be pulled outside Jerusalem as well. His heart will be divided. We can take this as a lesson to keep our hearts focused on God both in worship & how we live.🙏❤️

Great lessons on idolatry, faithfulness of God and how we need to spread the Word of God.
    * Thanks for explaining the difference between the Books. The Book of Kings is indeed a bit behind than the Book of Chronicles and both show the history from different perspectives.
    * Keeping Pharoah’s daughter away from the Lord God indeed wasn’t the right thing and I realized this after Fr. Mike’s analysis. Solomon and we, should not keep people away from God and Jesus BUT introduce them to God and Jesus and the Gospels! We see someone who’s not a follower of the true God praising God thanks to Solomon’s work on the temple building. That’s an example of how we can glorify God through our work and have people also believe in God!
    * Idolatry of spouse, houses, possessions etc. indeed leads us to lose our focus from God.
    * We need to be obedient to God! God is faithful and always accepts us even if we get lost and sin. We must change our ways, repent and sin no more as Jesus said. King Solomon committed mistakes of idolatry even though he was fortunate enough to have God communicate with him through dreams.
    * Psalm 66 indeed shows how God blessed David and his house. It reminds us of God’s mercy and how we are to behave after we get blessed by God.
Thank you for your work, Fr. Mike and Team Ascension. God bless you and the fellow listeners

    Round Two
Please pray for Souls in Purgatory. Go ahead, just take about 30 seconds to help save a soul that maybe is your family member or friend! Go forth and help save! Here is the prayer:
(According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory.)
    The Prayer of St. Gertrude
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family.
Amen.
God would reply to St. Gertrude that He would use whatever was offered to Him for the faithful departed, according to His inclination to show pardon & mercy.

Wonderful lesson, I am glad you pointed out about Pharoh's daughter . Why didn't the Israelite teach God's ways to their pagan wives. Why did they turn to their false Gods?

So Solomons temple is no longer because Solomon didn't stay with God ? I guess I will find out as the story goes along.

Is Soloman building a house and Temple at the same time? Are all the materials, cypress for the Kings house or for the Temple? I'm confused...Does the Lord give himself access to all these people daily? In person..They talk to the Lord as if he's a physical friend..not of a friend not seen..They have easy access to him.He answers them on a regular basis..Thats the difference between them and us..we don't have easy access to the Lord.as they did.

I find it curious how Solomons tolerance to Pharoahs daughters idolatrous conduct is so relatable to today's tolerance of immoral behaviors. As Fr Mike has explained, tolerance is not the same as love. You can love someone but tolerance does not wish the good of another. It perpetuates the notion that the other's sin is acceptable. Love involves sticking your neck out and loving guiding a person towards a better path away from destruction of self.

@@dianefrank3688 Good. Glad to know there's still plenty of horses. Multiply them, I say. It must be amazing to ride horses and own them. I have riden a horse in Ibiza on a holiday and a dog chased a cat in front of my horse and maybe I did something wrong with the reigns. The horse went right up in the air and I fell off, breaking my collar bone shoulder and arm. It was dislocated too. & The Ibiza hospital time is another story. I just say it was not nice, to keep it brief.

@@nellennatea I do not own a horse and I am terrible rider. My favorite great niece &
great nephew live in Colorado and are in the Westerners. They can do almost anything on a horse. They are in horse shows and do tricks on horses. Ride two horses while standing up, ride a horse while doing a hand stand, leaping from one horse to another by leaping off the ground. It is amazing. My great niece loves the horses so much that she signed up to clean the stables and brush the horses. Both of them are in the exceptional program at school. Their mother teaches 1st grade at a Montessori school. They hike all the trails of Colo. in their spare time. They sing and play instruments in the church choir. Their mother never let them have cell phone until they were in high school, they have extreme limited time on the computer, The family hikes and goes to church together.. They lived with me for seven years in Florida and I love and miss them so much.❤

My Colo. great niece; great nephew love horses they do not own one either. If they were not members of The Westerners they would not have access to horses. Their mother does not ride at all. Once they graduate from high school they will not be able to be in the Westerners and therefore will not have access to horses. They do not have the money as a family to pursue this. It is a shame as my niece especially has an emotional connection to them.😥

Maybe you could see if CBD only (or all the compounds but THC) help so you can just smoke or take that (in oil or capsules for example) instead of having the THC too which believe me is not good for your spiritual life even if it doesn't feel so bad (I was smoking 8 joints a day for almost 8 years and it does make you insensitive to God and reality) but ask a priest indeed
