This is huge! Thank you so much for explaining what happened to create the divided kingdom and the consequences of it. I'm one of those Christians you mentioned that really did not understand this part of the story, and so grateful for the deeper understanding and wisdom that comes from this.
I have learned so much that I forgot from last year in this introduction. Fr. Mike & Jeff Cavins do an excellent job explaining what is going to happen in the time of the Divided Kingdom. ❤🙏
Thank you so much for these podcasts at the start of new parts in the Bible In A Year Timeline! When I tried to read the entire Bible on my own in the past I would read the New Testament first, and then start the Old Testament. However, I would get to the 1st and 2nd books of Kings - and get totally confused and give up! The explanations you gave me today has lit so many lightbulbs!! I can’t thank you guys enough. Praying for Fr Mike, Jeff Cavins and all of us following the BIAY for 2023. Such a gift! 🙏🙏🙏
As strayed away from the Catholic Church for many years and recently becoming actually a devout Catholic. A bit overwhelmed. Adoration helps alot and making church like my second home. Pray for me 🥲
God bless you both, certainly spreading the good news, you’ve really helped me to understand the story of salvation and bring me closer to our Almighty God! Thank you so much eternally grateful for the gifts God has bestowed upon you both 🙏🏻✝️
Thank you SO much Father Mike and Jeff Cavins! Wow! I'm so glad I listened to this episode; I would have been completely lost without this wonderful explanation of the Divided Kingdom. Grateful for the both of you. 🙏
I also strayed away from the Church and from Jesus for 7 years. Thanks be to God for His faithfulness even though we are so often unfaithful. All Glory be to God!
As a new convert to the Church…I’m still learning the vital benefits of Reconciliation and Eucharist…..may the Holy Spirit continue to teach and cherish the Eucharist 🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾
Seeing the world through a biblical lens. A worldwide biblical view. From Genesis to Revelation, seeing how we fit into the story of Salvation History. Listening and learning. Grateful to both of you, Father Mike and Jeff Cavins , so glad to be here on this journey through the Old and New Testaments. " The people who walked in darkness, have seen a great light." Thank you , you are both wonderfully blessed. Thank you, oh most gracious Holy Spirit of God ! 🕯🕯
I am a Methodist. I don't understand what liturgy means. I thought it was a reading of the word. I love The Bible in a Year. It has taught me more than I have ever known.
Thank you so much for sharing this great introduction. It's a masterpiece, thank you dear Jeff and dear Fr. Mike for giving us this precious treasures. My takeaway notes from today are: the relation between the book of the prophet Hoseas and John chatpter 4, Chronicles focusing in the South and many other things that I rather to hear again and again because truly this is woth to be heared many times, God bless...
Well explained by Fr. Mike and Jeff Cavins! It was a fun and informative discussion! *Kings ought not to have too many horses, chariots, especially from Egypt. Also, not too many wives (not more than 1). Not too much gold and silver unless inside the Temple of the Lord. King Solomon did all of it and thus, had a downfall. He also coincidentally had the 6 6 6 number involved. The number of the Devil. * Civil War in King Solomon’s kingdom after his death due to the not so optimal work by King Solomon so Jeroboam ruled the northern tribes while Rehoboam ruled the Southern tribes. Judah remained with King David's family as an inheritance, and thus, Jesus being the Lion of Judah. North had 9 different dynasties. * Jeff Cavins is right about the Bible not explicitly telling about the North-South division. 1 Kings 12 to 2 Kings 16. Samaria, Israel and Ephraim are to the North while Jerusalem is to the South. * Prophets’ books (Hosea, Amos, Micah, Jonah) talk about the ongoing conditions of both kingdoms and Jonah to the Ninevites. Elijah telling the hard truth to the North then escaping because people wouldn't listen is what Jesus was also trying to tell. Gomers don't listen and we must not be like them. * The Northern tribes stopped getting access to God's temple as the border between the North-South Kingdom was just above Jerusalem. So, Jeroboam made a new religion along with the mistake of creating calves to worship and also not having Levites be the priests. Thus, causing the downfall. * I never realized the importance and symbolism of Hosea's story! God showed Hosea how God felt when his people cheated on God by worshiping other Gods. Thus, Hosea was made to marry a harlot who cheated on him. 1. God is like our husband, 2. We must be faithful to Him (His people were unfaithful). 3. God exiled His people for forsaking Him. * Old and New Testament connection- Hosea mentioned The Living Water and in John chapter 4, the Samarian Women also gets told about the Living Water by Jesus. * Oh, Jezebel and Ahab were from the North! So much to learn from the mistakes and the tales. * Great final reminders by Jeff Cavins- (1) the books of Chronicles tell the good stories of the South kings while the books of the Kings tell about everyone and everything. (2) Liturgy is God's way of sharing His life with us and not a way of controlling us! The Eucharist and the Mass help us to be a part of God's plan and life. Thank you so much, Fr. Mike, Jeff Cavins and Team Ascension. God bless you and the fellow listeners
In 1962 they started excavating Tel Arad. The temple in Tel Arad has two standing stones, one for YHWH and one for Asherah, YHWH's wife. This Tel/temple in Arad was in the Judah occupied southern territory from the 9th to the 6th century BCE. The storage jar found there has both names (YHWH and Asherah) inscribed on it. This jar was dated as circa 800s BCE. Can you explain this? Do we have an idea of why a Hebrew inscription with the name of God termed as YHWH (not El, mind you) on it, why would it show YHWH as having a pre-Canaanite goddess wife, especially as late as somewhere in the 800s BCE? I mean, WTHeck. ? And, this description/explanation of the Israel/Judah split is very helpful, thank you-- You both described/explained it in such a way I could easily visualize it- which helped me to mentally map and retain the information. So, thank you.
Anyone else see some parallels or analogical resemblance between the explanation given in this Divided Kingdom introduction and the modern day Novus Ordo vs Traditionalist factions?
Is this from traditional catholic or protestant bible history? "Understanding this first, that no prophecy of scripture is made by private interpretation." [2 Peter 1:20]
You are correct. The Babylonians destroyed it when they came to conquer and then it was rebuilt in the book of Nehemiah. Please, anyone correct me if I’m wrong. The temple present in Jesus’ time is the second temple and was then destroyed in year 70 and we are awaiting the building of the third temple to fulfill biblical prophecy.
The temple that was destroyed by the Babylonians was the temple Solomon built. The temple being mentioned in the New Testament (that was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD) was the replacement temple build by Herod (the King who ordered the massacre of the infants).
Jesus tells the woman at the well to go get her husband. She replies she doesn't have a husband. And Jesus says, you have spoken correctly in fact you've had five! Did Israel have five kings in the North who had five times gone to idol worship? I can't recall.
Hey Ascension Presents, Thank you for your videos, we would love if you check out our podcast show about Catholics and Protastants, many are trying to debate the matter if Jesus appointed Simon Peter as the first pope and that's what we discuss. along with many other topics such as the kingdom of God on earth , proving to muslims how crucifixion took place from their own books etc. the show is called 'Did Jesus appoint Peter as the first Pope?' on the ahamdi religion of peace and light channel. we would love to know what you think (: God bless

Important episode to hear TWICE, as Jeff Cavins suggests.
Thanks Father Mike and Jeff Cavin's for the clear explanation of the divided kingdom. I am happy about the treasure..., the Eucharist.

I loved Fr Mike's comment we are all Gomers that lose our way. Lol truer words...
I took a Bible study many years ago and the leader said the easy way to remember is Rehoboam (R= royal kingdom ) and Jeroboam not so much.

Jeff talks about it around 24:40 “the importance of liturgy”
Wonderful. It is good to know for the problems in the Church today. Most are unfaithful, following a different religion, bad leadership, etc.

On minute 6:07 (I think there is a mistake) when Jeff said that Jeroboam goes to two sets of counselors. I think the correct is Rehoboam.
