I looked at this car in person.it was originally a factory 318 car that was converted to a max wedge by the dealer at the buyers request. It is not in the max wedge registry as an original factory max wedge car.
It was a good job then, look at how they replicated the firewall engine harness...extended out to the top of the fender to stay away from the huge stock exhaust manifolds (that have been replaced with fenderwell headers).
Cool! In 1983 I was 16. I bought a 63 330 for $150. It had poly 318 and push button auto, 39000 miles. At the time it was 20 years old - seemed so old at the time. This brings back some great memories. After I sold it in 85 the next owner made a max wedge clone with a 440.
Stage 3 was '64. 62 413 had no " stage" moniker attached. . 63 was stage 1, late 63 was stage 2 as heads had some up grades as well as light weight cars . Stage 3 was the 64 cars
It's not a lightweight car, it is a Max Wedge car... Pull straps & A100 seats were part of the 68 Hemi Dart & Barracuda package not Max Wedge cars even when you got aluminum body panels...
WOW, 7300 RUNS ON THAT ENGINE, I DOUBT THATS ORIGINAL BUT YEAH THATS AMAZING, 11 SECOND VEHICLE? AS UGLY AS THEY WERE THEY SURE RAN STRONG, LOVE THOSE HEADERS
An original”factory” Max wedge would be a factory delete radio & heater version among other things like lots of aluminum. I’m old and actually was a Mopar line mechanic in that era which is remembered lovingly!!!
Be nice to hear it my friend-- I was never a Mopar lover especially of those older ones, I thought they were ugly as sin but I did learn to respect what was under the hoodThat should be a good 11 second car
some tweakin'....and decent fuel.....careful timing....hig tens/low 11's should not be an issue....and love the push button auto...probably the 727TF....dad's car was a 70 charger 440 car....highway gears, so not a 1/4 mile champ.....very high 13's, on a good day…...but awesome out on the open highway....lotsa memories....
@@cooker4409 Your Charger was probably good for around 140 with a 3.23 gear. My 70 Fury 1 with the 440 police pursuit package would run the certified 140 Speedo out of the numbers. Even if the car is not a factory Max Wedge car it is pretty cool for a few reasons: 1. Driven strictly down the strip for 50 + years and never crashed 2. Always garage kept 3. The car is intact and never was gutted. You would think that this being a drag car every ounce of unnecessary weight would have been removed, leaving essentially a shell on wheels.
Yes I know a guy who has one & his has the single master cylinder with 4 wheel drums lol along with the factory cast iron exhaust manifolds never molested like parts of this car .

does not appear tobe a factory max wedge car. Any one who knows these cars can immediatly spot the fact a few things are missing . Max wedge guys out there... look, you know what I mean .
I had a 63 Plymouth fury, that same blue like the interior. I think it had the 361? Bought it from the neihbor for $60 they just wanted to get rid of it, drove it for years dreampt of putting a max wedge in it,(they were still around) I was still in high school, I'm 65 now.
@@jeremythompson9895 you have no idea who you're talking about fouling spark plugs at 13.5:1 is almost impossible and do to the gears ratio low rpms is an issue. i drove my 455 buick skylark 40 over 12.5.1 to work for 10 years the only issue was gas octane. next time tell your wife maybe she will believe you. ps.stick to minecraft
Am I seeing things?? Or is that engine mounted with elephant ears to the frame? at 1.57 minutes. Is the block numbers matching? Why do that instead of using pro racing mounts at the factory location. Just curious what the story is. Thanks for sharing.
Whoa ... easy with the camera work ... moving that camera too fast and all over ... going to get sick 🤢 ... Anyway, these were always one of my favourite cars! The monsters of Woodward Ave. in Detroit's car scene!

Not a "real" max wedge car! How many of you know the 2 easy to detect items that only "real" max wedge cars have? Nice car; just not a authentic "Ramcharger"
+mickfoil There are several ways to tell; on this car it has a dual master cylinder , the original ones were single; this could have been changed. The next check is the manual choke; this car doesn't have one. The original cars had a manual choke closest to the steering wheel on the left side. Some of the clones have a aftermarket choke installed, but they usually don't space it properly; on the original cars, it's 1 1/2 times the spacing between the light switch and the wiper switch. Also original cars had extra emergency cable brackets above the 3" headpipes to keep them from rubbing the pipes. You can't really tell by the vin code on these cars, but little things that people usually don't notice tell the whole story. Also, the cut-outs for the carbs in the hood are incorrect; the x bracing was cut away on the factory max wedges. Hope this helps.
+Budd Williamson It absolutely does - thanks for the information and the education! I love the old Maxie Mopars and every little bit of extra info helps.
I love it the way it is. Shows a little age and very well kept!
There are just no cars like MoPaR's, the original #1 all American badass

Kind of sad. That would have been awesome with the original motor.
If it was a factory Max Wedge then I would have driven it home that day.
But you know them old 318s were tough as nails. (Wide block )
Cool! In 1983 I was 16. I bought a 63 330 for $150. It had poly 318 and push button auto, 39000 miles. At the time it was 20 years old - seemed so old at the time. This brings back some great memories. After I sold it in 85 the next owner made a max wedge clone with a 440.
This showing is like bringing a pie to the table and not letting ya taste it,start that wedge
I had the dodge 330 with the slant 6 in 63, it was a 4 door. Hated that car.
I had one in 1970, loved it. Best car I ever had. Light blue with the same interior as this one.
Doubt it's an original wedge, but it's still a really well preserved low mile survivor and collectable racer.
You cannot tell by the VIN. Only by the fender tag which also appears to be missing
Why didn’t ya start the god damn thing??!!!
I know, can't you take us for a ride, put another 1/4 on it, oh boy. What did it do?
That's what I was waiting for. Wanted to hear that beast.
Neighbor had a 413 max wedge stage 3 Had factory 13/1 compression Awsome
Stage 3 was '64. 62 413 had no " stage" moniker attached. . 63 was stage 1, late 63 was stage 2 as heads had some up grades as well as light weight cars . Stage 3 was the 64 cars
Would the Max have 2 sunvisors? Back seat ? Arm rests in back seat ?
You have to look in the glove box... the real ones have a non-warranty sticker in the glove box.
I thought the factory lightweights were radio delete with van seats and strap pulls for the windows. Would like to see the build sheet. Just sayin
Fender has antenna hole 🤔 seems fishy
He never said it was a lightweight did he? All max wedges weren't lightweight with aluminum fenders etc.
It's not a lightweight car, it is a Max Wedge car... Pull straps & A100 seats were part of the 68 Hemi Dart & Barracuda package not Max Wedge cars even when you got aluminum body panels...
Yeah, if that was a lightweight max wedge car it would probably have it's own armed guard!
Each 1/4 mile pass would add 1 mile on the odometer. 1/4 mile pass, 1/4 mile shutdown and 1/2 mile back to the staging lanes.
Gorgeous car. 7200 times down the strip? That's a ton
Rhythm Styx probably at least half of that is driving around at the track and test running while tuning and what not

Very nice and a Thumbs Up.
Were the inner fender cutouts done by the factory for the headers? Dual master cylinder was factory?
WOW! I would never repair any of those things. I would much rather see cars like this than some restored "Like New" thing.
nice, too bad we could not hear it run or run a quarter mile.
Love it, Beautiful
Whoever plumbed those carbs was all out of f*cks that day.
Looks pretty molested where the headers pass through the inner fenders
But it's period correct for the time...all serious race cars had "fenderwell" headers...
Sounded great.....
Yup... that rear mat seemed a little dry to me as well. A squirt of armorall should do the trick.
Factory Race Car with no Tach?
Beautiful car. Love it Love it Love it. Go Mopar
Aluminum/plastic dual outlet master cylinder in 63? I don't think so.
Yes I know a guy who has one & his has the single master cylinder with 4 wheel drums lol along with the factory cast iron exhaust manifolds never molested like parts of this car .
why have i not seen this until now?

Cool Dodge…but Budd is right…My favorite year is the 63 Dodge..most like the Plymouth but I prefer the face only a mother could love look…lol
"The face only a mother could love", I like that. Like my old Mopar friend would say, "You've got to look out for those early '60's Mopar's because the uglier they are, the faster they run!"
The 62 Dodge is the ugliest of all the Max Wedge cars imo. The 63s looked a little better I think
nice machine
So it's been down the quarter mile 7582 times?
Probably not, you gotta figure in the return trips to the pits.
It isnt originally a max wedge. It was a 318. Hence the push button shifter for an automatic. And I also dont see a tachometer.
The little old lady that used to own it just drove it to church on Sunday I Heard that before
does not appear tobe a factory max wedge car. Any one who knows these cars can immediatly spot the fact a few things are missing . Max wedge guys out there... look, you know what I mean .
It would not have a radio or a back seat
I agree that it is not an original Max Wedge car. 2 tell tale items. No manual choke pull and the under hood braces have not been removed

Pretty sure you weren't allowed to register these in the first place seeing it was a race car

Unbelievable. How much??
Where are the air cleaners?
Removed for better air flow
Thats a cool car..

I don't see ears...I see a turnbuckle to keep the engine from tearing the DS rubber mount.

The Brownie Muffler sticker on the side window. Brownie Muffler was a Bakersfield company.
How much?two million?
Push- button shift 😂
I actually had a tamer version. Push button shift was weird but worked well.
MOPAR.......or NOCAR!!! ;-)
Dual batteries
Two missing ground cables on the firewall
Missing front right brake line on firewall
Heater core still installed
Radio
Open the glove box. Let's see the missing decal along with the missing decal that came on the windshield
You know your max wedges Skipper.
Is it Push Button Automatic?
Shame they cut it up to fit the headers... The things people did back then.
Not so original.....did anyone else notice the master cylinder? The radio delete plate is missing and I see a few other added pieces also.
WH wilso you're right , but some Maxies did have radios. not all were delete.
Dual master cylinder is required to run NHRA Stock Class....safety item.
registered no raced the shit out of yes
A push button automatic eeh?
Polaras are awesome
Start it up.
I put that car up against a 63 Z11 Impala
1882 MI a quarter mile at a time don't you mean a half mile at a time a quarter mile down and a quarter-mile back
Except for some dumb ass chopped the inner fender wells out and put headers on it and I’m sure the original exhaust manifolds are long gone
Robert Embrey back in tha 60’s who would have every thought this would have been around today. All they wonted was a drag car
That's over 7200 1/4 mile passes if I use your history.

so what is the V I N ? that's how too tell
cannot tell by VIN number , only by fender tag on earlier Mopars

prob does't run lol
