- I had a great time experiencing just what it feels like to get behind the wheel of a Fiat coupe 20V Turbo! sick old school power delivery.. lag lag lag boom! Apart from the inner wing coming off and trying to murder us it was all fun and games.. shame about the 0-60 run, heat soak and a intermittently slipping clutch got the better of the fiat.. ENJOY!!

@@AndrenneChung bought it upgraded,it had a gt35 turbo fitted and a mitsubishi Evo intercooler and mapped to bring the power up to around 320 hp, could have made more power with that big turbo but kept it safe as the engine internals where not forged.

Has to be one of the best sounding engines of all time. I owned one of these back in the day and currently have a lightly modded VW Golf Mk.5 R32 as my fun car now (featured in another Officially Gassed Vid, I see:)) The R32 VR6 engine makes a great noise too but must say I love the wonderful 5 pot sound of my old 20v Turbo best. The engine was strong and reliable and the Coupe was probably one of best built cars that Fiat ever made.
Always had a soft spot for these and they were very quick back in the day. I also think the shape has aged very well and it still looks good even 20+ years later.
These were launched in the UK up at Argyle Tower in near Wick. Loved them ever since (basically flat with nearly no trees so if you can't see cops there are no cops). I always remember the cops coming into the petrol station (Richard's) to "talk to" the driver of one who'd likely been reviewing it and tanning it. *hands up, shaking his head* "ah excusi ah no english" then once they left cos they couldn't be bothered perfect English to the guy behind the pump desk.

I had an alfa 156 5 cylinder 2.4 dare I say diesel.
It was 175 hp standard. I had it played with and it ended up at 230 with over 300 lb ft.
There's no better sound than the growl from 5 cylinders whatever fuel it is.

Swiffy I sold it because I literally drove it once a week and the road tax didn't justify keeping it at the time. It's the only car I regret selling. True story now. I sold it to a guy from Blackpool, I live in Leyland. I'm a courier and my area is Nelson, Burnley. About a year ago I was doing a drop on a road called Beaufort Street. I heard a very distinctive 5 cylinder
It was only my old 156!!! I couldn't believe it.

I own quite a few cars, one of which is a fiat coupe 20v turbo, and it is one of my favorites. Mine is only mildly tuned but still feels very fast. Love it.
Comments saying it can't be 420bhp are wrong-ISH! The spec the guy mentions is capable of making 400 bhp. But with stock pistons, the torque has to be held back a lot to protect the pistons. The result is a SLOW 400 bhp Coupe. Hence why people are saying it must be running 300 bhp. Also, the FC Performance dyno is well known to overread by 20 bhp. So I would say this is making 400 bhp and about 300-330 lb.ft torque.

My boy Zak had one of these with boost controller and put a 16 valve back box on the 20 valve and the difference in sound was amazing these sound so nice 👍🏻

Got a Coupe with around 600bhp, 0-100kph is just tire and hardware killing :D 100-200 ~6s and 200-250 ~5s. Anything above 100 is what the coupe was made for

I would like to add and talk about a detail that has not been mentioned in the video review at all, that is the traction, as it is considered (the 20V Turbo) one of the best front traction in the world, due to some technical details not just, that is :
THE FRAME: "Type 2", this is the evolution of that of the Lancia Delta, more rigid and robust, as well as the body.
THE TRANSMISSION: A sophisticated (especially for the 90's era) electronically controlled transmission through turbocharging management (Garrett TB28) invented by Fiat / Bosch, on the first two "EBL" (Electtronic Boost Limiter) gears, of this what few are aware of, even if it has been mentioned several times by various Italian magazines such as: Auto del 1997, Quattroruote 1999, and also by international magazines, as well as a mechanical self-locking device called (ViscoDrive).
I think it is right to say a few words about the sophisticated electronic control of the transmission on the traction, and on its operation.
There are 2 sensors / switches inside the gearbox, which are connected to a first satellite control unit, this is connected to the mother control unit (Bosch Motronic 1.1.2) which in turn is connected to a second satellite control unit which is connected to an electronic valve called "Pierburg" which always in turn controls the WestGate valve of the Turbo, opening and closing it according to the wheel spin by means of the ABS sensors.
The beauty of this sophisticated electronic system lies in the fact that it does not INTERRUPT the wheel spin, like a common "ETC" (Electtronic Traction Control), where it cuts the current to the engine, making you feel the classic serration and kickback, but REDUCES the wheel spin. of the wheels, precisely decreasing the supercharging pressure, so as to maintain a fluidity and pleasure of driving while driving, without losing performance.
The system automatically excludes itself once the third gear has been engaged, included onwards, to reactivate automatically once returned to 2nd and 1st gear respectively.
The control system, if necessary, can be excluded with special "Computer Examiner", and not by the Driver in the passenger compartment.
The beauty of this sophisticated system lies in the fact that if you want to elaborate the Coupé, even in an extreme way, to increase power and torque, and therefore performance in general, with more extreme trim, etc .... With this electronic system (with ECU reprogramming) you can choose the boost pressure according to the gear engaged so as to always have a smooth and pleasant drive, without excessive skidding and loss of control of the car!
ES: If original, the pressure expressed by the Turbo is: 1st gear 0.8Bar, 2nd gear 1.0Bar, from 3rd gear included 1.2Bar (therefore the maximum boost pressure).
By carrying out the processing you can do:
E.g. 1st gear 1.0Bar, 2nd gear 1.2, Bar, 3rd gear included onwards 1.5 / 1.8 / 2.2, and beyond, so as to never have the classic explosion of power with relative wheel spin in the first 2 gears, which takes away the pleasure of driving.
A truly brilliant and unique system in the 90s sports!
We remind you that the "normal" Fiat Coupé 20V Turbo and special editions (Limited Edition, [numbered and certified] Plus Edition, and MY99 'Edition) is the only 90' front-wheel drive sports car to have a controlled transmission and mixed management, (Electronics + Mechanics), the latter cohesive in unison, in the name of mimesis, although these are not physically connected to each other in a single piece, like a classic "VDC."
In practice, the mechanical self-locking (ViscoDrive) acts as a "TC" (Torque transfer) and the "EBL" (Electtronic Boost Limiter) electronics as a skid control.

P.s: Some models (more than a few) of original "Limited Edition", new, and of a single owner, rolled on the test bench, have all registered powers of over 230hp, in spite of the 220 declared by Fiat.
This indisputably explains the greater performance in terms of maximum speed and acceleration scored by the various magazines, in spite of the "normal" 5-speed versions, that is: (252.23 Km / h, LE, against 248Km / h Normal .), and acceleration, (6.1 / 3 Sec.LE, against 6.5 Sec.Normal) all electronically "limited" in the first 2 steps, as stated above.

It was fairly quick lovely sound at high end revs pops & bang .
I had the Fiat Stilo Abarth on a 2003, that was a 5cyl and had a nice big NOS bottle in the boot, semi auto with flappy paddle, side exit exhaust. some fiats were under-rated 😏 they also did the Schumacher Edition 👌🏻

had one back in the day modded it slightly it was rapid in a straight line and 3rd gear was very impressive still look good very underrated cars ..
I had a mapped 20VT for 5 years with a dump valve. Roger at Power Italia used to do good servicing on the coupes. Also squeaky brakes are a common issue, he needs to chamfer the pads & copper grease them. A random fun fact on the coupes is the quirky way the bonnet arm works. I have a older video of mine on my channel from a few years ago if anyone is interested. (2 vids, Not the carbon clean one)

Owned a 16v fiat coupe turbo when I was 18 it was red put 19's on it and fat exhaust an induction kit looked an sounded the nuts. Looked like a little ferrari. Traded it in for a new evo 6 gsr a few years later 😁

I had one at 239bhp at the wheels, so I believe it would be around 280bhp and it was very fast! Not a 0-60 car as it’s hard to get the revs just right so that you get max pull off with as little spin possible, I did 157mph in mine top speed and 3rd gear would get 110mph 4th 125+Mph I changed the oil every 6 weeks as they drink it as well, I owned it for 12 months and done 20 thousand hard miles in it! That car is still running now 7 years later on the same engine but had a new turbo fitted and an overhaul! The cylinder pressure was tested and it was as much as when it left the factory, Amazingly strong engines if cared for, No way that car here is 420bhp but it’s still a great video,

Very nice car. 20 years old!. Stock parts for 225hp and he has 420... And he left on way to less RPM's. If he would have left at 2500-3000 ish he would have easily gotten a time of under 7 seconds,even low 7's or high 6's. (depending on the tires and grip)like he is supposed to(you know...like launch controle.In an AudiA6 from the year 2008(diesel 2.0,i don't know about petrol ones,probably and probably stil even now) there is a hidden launch control that was ment to protect the engine when in neutral so,you can only rev it to 2500 rpm(ment to be a measure against clumsy feet(and also good against inspection(MOT in England,DMVin USA,do they also check the cars or is it just an administrative department?), because they rev the shit out of your engine here in Belgium!grrrr) but that is great,you put it in first,give gas and let the cluth go...hahahaha.thx Audi).It works perfect everytime offcourse,it is in fact a launch control but without the cpu for the diff and traction and so on,hhhhh. Much fun just with a 2 liter diesel.But yeah,cars are ALWAYS fun.Try to be safe out there,brothers and sisters. A car is a car. Plenty of them. Kind and warm regards.
