Mission Name: Blood Brothers
Objectives:
● Go to the courtyard park in Lancet.
● Use the window cleaning platform, on top of the scaffolding, to get to the roof top.
● Take out Derrick or Francis when ready.
● Get off the roof and evacuate the area.
Rewards:
● Killing Derrick - $10,000 or $20,000 and the ability to get rid up to a 3 star wanted level.
● Killing Francis - Nothing.

I like how Niko never lied to anyone in this game. When Francis said "Don't miss, Niko. You might hit me.", Niko replied "I'll hit who I'm aiming at, don't worry", suggesting he could kill him if he wanted.

Here is an interesting fact: In GTA V Packie mentions that Derrick is dead which likely means that even if you kill Francis Derrick still dies sometime between the events of GTA IV and V.

I don't know why, but killing Francis just feels "right". He's a corrupt cop that ask you too kill basically everyone he hates for no reason and looks down on his family and said they're criminals even though he's also a criminal with a cop status. Derrick is nicer to his siblings and Niko and while not paying Niko much to do his work, Niko seems to still be happy helping Derrick willingly unlike Francis where he does it reluctantly and swear he would kill him. So it seems killing Francis would be more suitable in Niko's condition. I am aware that Packie says Derrick died before V but it was never confirmed how. But still, killing Francis seems more "right"
The people Francis wanted you to kill had evidence against him, so he had to have them killled. Derrick however lies Niko that Bucky and Aiden betrayed him but he's the real traitor. Derrick just became paranoid of them being alive.

Funny, I feel that killing Derrick felt more "right". If he was gonna snitch, it was just a matter of time before Derrick would snitch on Niko. Frances was corrupt, but he actually helps you out when your wanted. IMO Killing Derrick and chosong Revenge resulting on Kate's death felt more right to me.
After the events of IV, Packie had no one. With Gerald incarcerated, Derrick dead, Kate murdered, Frances not giving a shit about his family, and as Packie stated he doesn't know how long his Ma will last with Kate dead, I think she died of sorrow shortly after IV. We see Packie leave LC.

One of the best missions in the game moral wise. Francis is a crooked, corrupt cop who tries to justify his bent actions "for the good of community" and Derrick while might look a good person as first, he's a backstabber, snitching and killing his friends, to not mention his drug addiction. Both are terrible people and that makes the decision even harder.

This isn't like the Playboy X or Dwayne decision where killing Playboy is definitely the better choice. In this one both of them are almost as bad for different reasons.

Whats more painful about this mission is that they both trusted you to kill one another.
I chose to kill Derrick because his death is not determinant. So his death doesn't matter. He either dies here or some years after the events of GTA IV as Packie mentions in GTA V.
Also think about Maureen McReary (their mother), she loses Gerald cuz he's in jail. She loses Francis here (if you choose to kill him) and then loses Derrick too after some years and then lose Kate too (if you choose Revenge) and then loses Packie too (if you killed him in GTA V). Basically this whole family is cursed.

But Derrick was a snitch. He's the one who landed Aiden in prison and nearly got Bucky incarcerated too. (I felt really bad killing Aiden ;_;) If he ratted out his two closest friends, what's stopping him from going to the feds and reporting some hired gun (Niko Bellic, in this case) he barely even knows? On top of that, he was going to report his own brother, Francis.
At least Francis made something of himself, even if he kinda cheated. Derrick was just a hopeless junkie.
But killing Francis follow Niko's moral code. It seems like the Canon choice to me. Niko doesn't seem to like Francis at all. When Francis get into trouble, Niko just tell him that he's screwed and Niko won't help Francis unless if he pay Niko 5 grand.
Fun fact : in undertaker, if you kill Derrick and went to his funeral, Niko sits alone. While in Francis's funeral, Niko sits along besides Derrick.

Personally, I always chose to kill Derrick. I mean, neither Francis nor Derrick are really good people- Derrick is just better at acting like a good person.
So the way I think of it is like this: should I kill the bad person who has no use to me whatsoever, or the bad guy who can get the cops off of me?

When I reach to choose Playbox X or Dwayne Forge, I would kill Playboy X because Dwayne will then become Niko`s friend, but for this two, Derrick and Francis, it is going to be tough to decide because both have helped Niko in some missions.

Derrick earlier has betrayed many of his friends just like Dmitiri betrays Mikhail and Playboy betrays Dwayne . Francis still wants to do some good and stays true with Niko, keeps Niko out of Police radar .

Yep, Derrick spun it differently and made us kill his friends who he wronged first, ok Bucky went to far with threatening to kill his family it thoughI think he might have aggregated it, but he still made us do jobs and said he wasn’t grass, despite the fact he ain’t in prison and Francis says and so does packie mcreary, killed him without blinking.

Cons of killing Derrick it’s against niko’s moral code , the next mission is harder , & Francis’s ability to get the cops off of niko only lasts up until the end’ve the game which is pointless-useless

He also might have betrayed other people like the mafia, I don’t like him sense people defend him dispute him causing problems by being in people’s fights and then betray them and hide, at least Francis can help his brothers like Gerry who is in prison by lowering his sentence, Derrick won’t drop his brown and use it to the point where he might have OD’ed him self because, regardless of what ending you choose Derrick dies in gta v.
It's a hard decision, indeed. I actually like Frankie even though he's bad and corrupted as hell but he's funny, can be useful and gives you a lot of money (even though it's useless in the game).
Derrick is an old junkie. He looks miserable and you get nothing after the mission, if you let him alive.
Just a shorter route to Francis' grave. Nothing else
Not only that but frankie has a special abilty that can help you
Killing Derrick makes sense because:
1) Derrick betrayed Bucky and Aiden
2) Derrick is an informant and likely ratted out gerry
3) Francis pays you and removes your wanted level
I don't really buy into this theory that Derrick ratted out Gerry. In most cases Its unrealistic for criminals to get away with the amount of crimes committed especially some one like Gerry. I think its highly likely Gerry got careless and the Cops managed to catch on to him. I think that's what Rockstar tried to show with GTA IV. The criminal life is not like some hollywood action movie like its portrayed in other GTA games
francis special ability of removing wanted level available only at maximum of 3 star is removed in the end of the game

And plus 12 missions after you kill Mikhail Faustin he tells Niko he knows about him and that he killed Mikhail Faustin in call and collect which is mission 35 and when you kill Mikhail Faustin that’s mission 23 and the mission in the middle of 23 and 35 is mission 29 and he’s involved in the cutscene in mission 29 funnily enough which is in many’s mission street sweeper and funny story you actually have to work for manny after you kill Mikhail Faustin even though you’ve got romans sorrow first but yeah then you work for manny no wonder why Francis McReary knew about nick killing Mikhail Faustin
I never really knew that the choice you make could actually affect the game later on, in a sophisticated, long-term-effect way I mean. Like "this choice follows Niko's moral code" for example.
This goes to show how this game was constructed so well, that every little detail is considered. I also never knew that I could call Francis to double the price. The game is so well thought that the developers actually think about what people would feel and do in that situation. GTA IV is a LEGEND!

One of the most "moral" choices in gta 4, in my opinion. When I first played through this mission I was 15-16 years old, and I killed Derrick (don't remember why I made that choice, probably because it gave that 3-star-removal feature); Now that I'm 18 years old and got to this mission again, I suddenly felt some kind of pity towards Derrick and killed Francis... Don't know why but I think a man doesn't deserve to die getting smashed by the system (Francis is a cop after all, and just like Derrick said, "Cops kill whoever they like". And Derrick's just an old man who stands no chance against a cop. If it weren't for Niko, I guess Francis would've killed him one way or another)

I'm 27 and i killed Derrick because he was lost and paranoid. I simply put him out of his misery. Can't figure out why i let Francis go.

He has to speed off regardless of what vehicles are available. If he stayed in the area too long, police will come after him and he has to lose them.
Player 2-LightWater Cops don’t come after this mission. You can just walk away.

Killing Derrick is good foe story progression while Killing Francis is good for Speedruns
“This choice follows niko’s moral code”. That gave me chills
Even though it's wrong. Killing Derrick would better fit Niko's code. Derrick is a murdering snitch, just like Darko. Niko's code practically demands that Derrick die, no matter how much Niko may hate Francis.
Niko was disgusted by Francis because he upholds the law but blackmails him to kill his brother. If Derrick was the first one to suggest killing the other, I wonder what his reaction would be. Plus Niko didn’t know Derrick betrayed his friends. If he did, he’d surely dislike him. But since he doesn’t, or doesn’t care, it doesn’t affect their relationship. It may also be because of his friendship with Packie and Kate. But in my opinion Derrick is worse than Darko. @@123Mathzak9 month old reply but to answer your question, it’s heavily implied Derrick sold all of his friends back in Ireland down the river to avoid jail time (and might have been responsible for Gerald going down) just like Darko betrayed the entire unit (although it was simply for a thousand dollars which admittedly makes it more egregious)
I think it makes for a bit of dramatic irony where Niko’s dialogue afterward implies it irks him way more to kill Derrick whereas if he had all the facts he would probably kill Derrick at zero cost and maybe even without being told to, by virtue of his code and how much dirt Derrick has on him at this point.
This one for once I'm gonna choose the one with no reward. Francis is a corrupt cop, the 3 stars only lasts the story, at the end it's not available anymore, and let's be honest here. How much will $10,00/$20,000 be good for? With me, it'd run out quickly.

If you kill Derrick you will enjoy the game better, because you can call Francis to clear your police attention, then you will have lots of money to get.

With the two times I've fully played the story mode, I killed Francis in the first run and Derrick in the second. Francis because he seemed like the type of person Niko would kill by choice, he questioned killing Derrick but didn't seem as hesitant on Francis (though probably because the video didn't call Derrick for any persuasion). However I chose to kill Derrick in my second playthrough, Derrick doesn't seem to be enjoying life that much so its better to put him out of his misery and in GTAV he dies anyway so even if you let him live, he doesn't survive for very long so it feels more like s temporary right choice, buuuut I suppose you could argue that killing Derrick is pointless if he dies anyway and therefore both die if you kill Francis. You also get a reward from Francis, so I guess that is also a reason.
Some people also seem to forget that most would've chosen to cap Francis before the release of GTAV because none of us knew Derrick was going to die regardless so we never had that to consider, it's only till after it was released that the choice depended on that factor, before that we could've assumed that Derrick would've just lived on his miserable life and didn't die between GTAIV and GTAV.

I always stay on the fence on this one, even though francis is a pig, with the way Niko cares about packie and kate i always kill Derrick, just the chance of him betraying his own family because of his addictions is too great. ( The rewards don't matter much to me, I always have a lot of money at this point in the game )

In some moral way both of them are trash, but I found killing Francis more rewarding for Niko in terms of his possible revenge on Francis. It's because Niko was blackmailed by Francis to make jobs for him and Derrick was cool with him in some weird way - earlier he sad about Niko that 'they are the same'. So having an opportunity like this Niko could kill Francis for hatetred.

Much as I _hate_ Francis, Derrick is the one I always choose to put down. Derrick is an irredeemable junkie, a detriment, and the payoffs are better. $20,000 and a one time removal of a level 3 wanted level is excellent.
This is the only decision I really find difficult. I save Ivan, he's always nice to Niko, and Vlad was an asshole (but funny,) kill Playboy, Dwayne is cool, I'd take the apartment and Dwayne's friendship over money and Playboy screwing you over. Kill Clarence, if you spare him you encounter him as a random character and he tries to kill you anyway, revenge over deal, I like Kate, but Roman is family, plus if you take the deal, Dimitri screws you over again, making you look like an idiot, and even after Roman dies, Kate leaves town and you never see her again anyway. Darko is 50/50, but this one I always struggle with. There's pros and cons to both. Francis gives you money, but money isn't that important in GTA really, at least not this one, plus Niko does hate him, Derrick was always good to Niko. On the flip side, Derrick dies anyway if you spare him a few years later presumably from a drug overdose or drinking himself to death, so that poor mom could lose all her children bar Gerald if Kate dies, and Packie can in 5 (although that's optional) plus when Derrick had you kill Aidan it seemed like Derrick was the one who betrayed him, and not the other way around. The pros and cons on both sides seem equal. On both occasions I questioned whether I made the right choice afterwards.

To be honest. As much as we GTA players love killing crooked cop characters like Francis, Derrick is the practical and logical one when it comes to who deserves to get shot.
We know that money and his "get cops away for free" ability is useful (especially to me) but not much in late game and post game. So why else should we kill Derrick?
Well... Killing Derrick Mcreary wouldn't JUST be only an act of mercy. But when you think about it deeper; he is rather a lighter version of Darko Brevic. A mirror to Darko in some sick twisted way.
Think about it. We know Darko, was not only a former squad mate of Niko's during their tragic involvement in the Yugoslav Civil War. Darko not just betrayed Niko but also grassed over his comrades to another enemy for some money to buy H for his addiction leading to Niko hunting the traitor down who killed his 15 or 16 man squad.
Derrick happens to mirror this in a lighter way. While Darko isn't as caring and compassionate as Derrick was towards his own family, Derrick also grassed his former I.R.A. comrades back in Belfast during The Troubles (Bucky & Aiden) and also became a junkie who will rat and betray over anyone for an ounce of brown.
In the end they both were just another Heroin addicted traitors who will say anything for a fix.
One less Derrick, one less Darko.
