      Ubel to glass: I can see through it, therefore, it's not there. So I can absolutely walk right through it, because it's not there.

    • @yoshi1701
      @yoshi1701 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I love The Apothecary Diaries but I disagree. TAD source material is a LN of 14 volumes that is still running. The first season only covered 2 volumes and the second season that airs in January is going to adapt 2 more volumes so you would need like 180 episodes and 10 years to get to the point of the actual story, that is still publishing.

    • @XMVario
      @XMVario หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      @@yoshi1701 what the hell are you talking about? Are you seriously suggesting to never start a show ever again if it's far from finished? Nothing you say makes any sense and if everybody would live by your rule Harry Potter, or Game of Thrones would've flopped.

    • @yoshi1701
      @yoshi1701 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@XMVario Of course is worth watching however they prefer to react to things that are finished. TAD would be the worst of all the animes they have reacted to in that aspect. With Frieren we are at half the point of the manga, Vinland needs only 2 more seasons to conclude, Hunter x Hunter has 80% of the manga adapted.
      The next poll is for short anime and you want them to react to the adaptation of the 15+ volume LN that is publishing a new one every 9 months where every volume needs 12-13 episodes? Current anime production is adapting 2 volumes every 15 months so they are barely matching the pace of the LN and they are 7 seasons (9 years) worth of content behind. Why not react to One Piece then?

    This is my favorite ep of the series. It’s the definition of Frieren saying “Fern, I’ve taught you everything you know, not everything I know” in a sick and clear way just with that force push. In a much earlier episode you asked why does Frieren just go around looking for mundane and boring spells. This episode showcases that those are the only spells left for Frieren to learn, as she has an unlimited arsenal of attack spells that she spent 50 years straight learning from Flamme. That's why she answered after those 50 years that she only somewhat likes magic, because it left such a bad taste for her. Not until Flamme showed her a spell to make a field of flowers did she start to turn towards learning other kinds of "boring" magic.

    • @Blackferret66
      @Blackferret66 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +11

      Yeah. I think that's when Frieren began to start to love magic again, or at least want to start again. When Flamme said that the flower creation spell was what made her love magic, she wanted to learn it in the hopes that it would rekindle her love too. It's also why she casts it everywhere she goes, to spread that love of magic.
      I also love how she call those "lesser' spells Legendary magic. She might not be being humorous. That kind of folk magic was probably some of the first human spells to develop, which would have been during the Legendary age, before Flamme got magic legitimized.

    9:30 That is the current understanding of how a Black Hole would look like. The accretion disk is accelerated to such speeds that it emits the light that we see. The "crown" is due to the curvature of space-time in what is called gravitational lensing: the light from behind the Black Hole that would never reach us because it would fly away in another direction is curved so that we actually can see the entire surrounding of the Black Hole at once, every side even its back.

    • @RayramAureanBlue

They could've also Googled the definition of "attrition" as well, yet there are multiple people defining the term in this comment section anyway, as well as the meanings and pronunciations of German names. I see this as the same thing, filling in missing information that the girls might not get, but is still interesting. I see no reason to single this comment out with a "Don't explain, they can just use Google".

    "Wouldn't she be able to cut through any person" without a defensive spell, yes, Übel cut through that first class mage after all. But if she visualise the defensive magic, she can't cut through it so a simple shield will block her spell. The problem with the proctor she killed and Sense's defensive magic is that they use layers of invisible defensive protection, if they'd used a shield or something visible or even something Übel can't imagine cutting instead, they could block her. It's even possible that you could block Übel's attacks with illusion magic just because what she sees can't be cut even if what she sees isn't real.

    My theory on the Frieren clones “invisible” final attack on Fern is that this was part of Flammes magic that she had taught Frieren during the fifty years they were together.
    Flamme even had the same expression as Frierens clone when she smoked the three demons that ambushed them as well as the entire hill they were standing on.
    Mages in Frierens world use spells to channel their innate mana, the attack was akin to a curse because it’s not a recognized spell within the human magic system. So the attacks were either spells that only Flamme and perhaps Serie knew and then were passed on to Frieren. OR they weren’t a spell at all and were just brute for willing their mana to produce a simple but devastating effect.

      In my head canon, that attack was simply a godly attack, you visualize it, and it happens, no mana needed. Perhaps that is why they emphasized on the "visualizing magic" thing with the hair cutting and shit with ubel. She was powerful as hell visualizing her magic, cutting the senseis hair. Perhaps flamme and frieren did the same thing, but on a godly level, zero mana.

    Attrition means wearing down slowly. A battle of attrition means you can't win with a single victory, each side will slowly lose people and whichever side runs out of people or supplies needed to fight loses. In the case of the fight between Frieren and her clone it's a battle of attrition because they are evenly matched and it will be won only after slowly damaging each other or after slowly running out of mana.

    [NO SPOILERS] Explaining Ubel vs Burg/Sense; I think that Ubel does actually understand Burg's and Sense's enchantments (not in a logical way, but in a more intuitive way) because she wouldn't be able to cut through them otherwise.
    It's not that she's special and can just straight up ignore other magics. It's exactly because she understands them, that she can construct images of cutting them and combine it with Reelseiden (which allows her to cut anything she understands) to cut through those other magics.
    Unlike what many including Land seem to think, she's actually a decently smart and capable mage that is more "street-smart" rather than "book-smart".
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    However, she cannot cut defensive magic, because there are two main hurdles;
    (1) The defensive magic itself is probably a superior spell to Reelseiden. As Qual says;
    Ep3 (Crunchyroll Subs): "It attunes itself to the offensive magic and disperses its power." (Best TL imo)
    Ch5 (VIZ Official TL): "It works by aligning itself with the offensive magic and dispersing the power."
    Ch5 (Kirei Cake Fan TL): "It's designed to align with the offense magic and disperse its might."
    (2) Ubel would have to visualize weaknesses in defensive magic (if they actually exist since she cannot just make them exist) to be able to cut it. However even assuming that such weaknesses exist, visualizing/understanding them would in turn weaken her own defensive magic, since she now knows about its weaknesses, and so can no longer trust it as a proper defense.

    • @Diablos-pi2qy
      @Diablos-pi2qy 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Re Ubel's psychology;
      (1) Kraft's thing is basically that she overdid it. He decides against lecturing her probably because there isn't much point to it. However, self-defense and excessive-force are NOT the same. Had Ubel been less messed up, she wouldn't have cut them up into pieces or something.
      (2) Wirbel doesn't kill her because he's not a killer and doesn't go out of his way to kill people. However, he is very experienced and a good judge of a character as far as we can tell. He characterizes Ubel as a pervert who enjoys killing and Ubel pretty much silently agrees with him.
      (3) Ubel is downright manipulative with Land in the dungeon when facing against her own clone. This is toxic behavior at the very least.
      (4) Burg's test wasn't deadly at all. The goal was to just push him back. The examinees were also told that killing was a no-go. But, Ubel killed him in cold blood and felt no remorse as far as we can tell. Plenty evil here.

    Just as an FYI "attrition" means to beat down or wear down something piece by piece. So a battle of attrition is where you will not win with clever maneuvers or tricks, but just by smashing each other down, force against force. WWI and the current war in Ukraine are classic examples of wars of attrition.

    Attrition is loss of efficacy or resources through repeated actions when reinforcements are not available. A battle of attrition is when one side has more resources than another, and can win simply by depleting the opponents resources through repeated engagement.
    Here, the replicas can apparently regenerate over and over, while mages who lose leave the dungeon (via golem if they're smart enough and quick enough, or via death otherwise). So repeated fighting will inevitably lead to the replicas winning.

    Now, that you've released the Episode 26 reaction/discussion video, I want to give a spoiler-free explanation of the magic system in the Frieren world.
    """
    Short version; Visualization is important, but it's not the be-all-end-all.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Long version; There are 4 components to a mage's magic-casting in the Frieren world:
    (1) Mana: How much mana/magical-energy they have.
    (2) Control: How much mana and how precisely they can control it.
    (3) Spell: The magical formulas that they know and are able to use. Examples: Basic Offensive/Defensive Magic, Reelseiden.
    Note that the spell formula dictates what is possible or impossible. Examples:
    (a) Basic Offensive Magic cannot pierce dragon scales or Basic Defensive Magic, regardless of the attacker's visualization. Otherwise, Frieren would've taught Fern how to do it when she asked Fern to attack the Solar Dragon in S01E05 in the former case, and Basic Defensive Magic would actually be useless in the latter case.
    (b) Frieren's spell to clean a bronze statue not being usable for a stone statue. If it was purely a visualization based system, then there is absolutely no reason for why Frieren wouldn't be able to use the folk spell in S01E16 to clean Kraft's & Unknown-Priest's statues.
    (4) Visualization: Needed to activate/use a spell since a mage cannot make something happen if they can't clearly/exactly picture the desired outcome.
    Note that to clearly/exactly picture an outcome, one needs to have a complete understanding of said outcome. Therefore, they should have a complete understanding of the process that created that specific outcome/result as well (since only understanding an outcome without understanding the generating process, will be incomplete at best and flawed at worst). This is pretty much how it is in real life as well.
    Furthermore, a weak visualization can weaken a spell, but a strong visualization cannot strengthen a spell. Examples:
    (a) Regardless of Aura's visualization, her scales were already tilting towards Frieren, even though Aura was unaware that Frieren had more mana at that point. If it was a purely visualization based system, then Aura would've been able to dominate/control anyone including Frieren.
    (b) Ubel's visualization is ONLY taking advantage of Reelseiden's formula to cut anything in a 5? meter radius. Even she is unable to fully maximize the spell, since she cannot visualize cutting Basic Defensive Magic. However, she can visualize cutting more things than most people, so she's still a very proficient user of this spell.
    --------------------------------------------------
    In summary, the visualization component of magic is just like in real life; you will surely fail if you have a 'bad' mindset, but a 'good' mindset does NOT guarantee success (ie, a 'good' mindset is a necessary, but insufficient condition for success since external factors are still a thing).
    Visualization is important, but it's not the be-all-end-all. Spells determine what's possible or not, and a mage's visualization can make them achieve between 0% to 100% of a spell's potential.
    They cannot just bs visualize/imagine themself into winning and/or doing the impossible.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Also, there is technically one more component, which may fall under Control, but since I'm not convinced that it definitely does (and also because it's not completely crucial for just casting magic alone as a singular mage), I've written it below as a separate point:
    (5) Detection: How accurately a mage can detect mana in a certain radius with themself at the center.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    The above info is from:
    S01E02: First half of the episode with Frieren teaching Fern.
    S01E03: Second half of the episode on Killing Magic.
    S01E05: Second half of the episode with the Solar Dragon.
    S01E08: Pretty much all of it. :)
    S01E09: Pretty much all of it. :)
    S01E10: Pretty much all of it. :)
    S01E15: First half of the episode on Goddess' Magic.
    S01E16: Second half of the episode with the statue cleaning quest.
    S01E20: Pretty much all of it. :)
    S01E21: Pretty much all of it. :)
    S01E26: Pretty much all of it. :)

      Regarding Frieren's trump card, I think that it's actually still magic and not pure/raw visualization or some other unknown thing.
      Notice how there is a magic circle under clone-Frieren's feet. A magic circle different from Zoltraak or any others we've seen (this is the case both in the anime and the manga).
      It's just magic that Fern can't understand, similar to how some demonic/monster magic can't be understood/detected by humanity and is categorized as curses.
