React to "Grand Blue" (it was my 1st 10/10 anime in funny genera ) you'll enjoy it alote
Keep going king l love your reaction are amzing ❤
You guys reaallly need to react to Fruits Basket one day! All the character analysis and emotional growth..you would love it!
@@Jay-ty8ne Yes! I just recommended Fruits Basket (the 2019 remake, of course) to them too. I think Montana would have a blast analyzing the mental health of the characters, something I enjoyed while reading the manga and watching the anime. It's such a great story - and an emotional journey!
@@serenshadow89 same! Montana will enjoy the character analysis and Kenny will enjoy the twists & turns lol.
This is not a show you need to recover from, it's a show that heals you more and more with every episode
It was the PERFECT follow-up to JJK for Kenny and Montana. I feel like they needed this. 🥲
I agree with you here is amzing show and she Queen ❤
@@HaydrogenBombl agree with you here l love the art iş his episode 💗❤️
@@HaydrogenBombjjk was overrated
@@cringekiller348 I don't disagree
the producer of the show said when he read chapter 1 of the manga, he cried and felt there is something changed inside him. And I love how he gather all of the talented people on the studio to just show us and let us feel what he felt on chapter 1 by seriously crafting one of the best art, music and story in modern anime. They did Frieren justice.
Yes, they did. Then it was ruined by the American dub whch, as usual, has been thrown together without any regard to the source material or understanding of the characters. It ought to be a crime to dub this.
Its kinda crazy to think about but Heiter was really old, assume Heiter was 18 when they started their adventure, he was 28 when it ended, 78 when he saw the meteor shower again, and when he died 25-26 years after Himmel that would mean Heiter died at 103-104 years old
I agree with you here l hope he rest in peçe the ost ao rexling❤
Those are some protagonist genes right there
he was a priest, I'm sure the Godess extended his life. Imagine how much longer he'd live if he didn't drink so much when he was younger
hieter was probably spamming healing spells or just has enchantments to keep him healthy despite living standards, also hieter was younger than himmel pretty sure, not by much though
@@اميرمادرا this is the ultimate bot
Super excited to re-experience the happiness, sadness and just "Himmel" 😭 with you both
This quickly became my favorite anime pilot of all time. It boggles my mind how the characters become so developed and important to you in the span of about 10 minutes. Masterful storytelling in every way! I hope you enjoy the show! It gets so much better, although I know that doesn't make sense at the moment, because that is an amazing first episode. You care so much for the characters, immediately.
I agree with you here is amzing show l love the sotry and ost too my favorite show ❤
german lesson
Frieren: freezing/ to freeze
Eisen: iron
Heiter: cheerful
Himmel: sky/heaven
Fern: distant
Ewig: forever
Flamme: flame
Frieren she amzing MC l love the german❤
Who's that last one?
@@HaydrogenBomb Ewig the Sage, mentioned at 22:20.
@@TheNomad94 Ohhh
Don't forget Flamme the Legendary Mage!
Gentle reminder that in both Japanese and English, Himmel is voiced by Katsuki Bakugo (Nobuhiko Okamoto and Clifford Chapin)
Something that immediately hooked me to the show is, as per the show's name, the fact that the story starts after the Demon King is defeated. Where most stories would reach its climax, this one deals with what happens *after* the end of that adventure. To most people, while they will remember you and appreciate what you've done for them, life simply goes on. And who better to follow in that story than Frieren, who doesn't apperciate the little things in life and who lets life pass her by, until her companions grow old and start to die? It's such a brilliant writing choice right from the start that I knew I'd love this story.
@@Marta-uv4id I think it's hilarious how so many reactors at the beginning are convinced that the Demon King is gonna return anytime soon or maybe he left an egg behind or smth etc. People, it's not that kind of show ^^
Forreal. This is one of those shows where the PREMISE, and how it's executed, is one of the best parts to me.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: this was the PERFECT show to follow up Jujutsu Kaisen.
Don't get me wrong; it hurts, too. But it hurts in a very special and well-done way. Frieren tugs on the heartstrings, whereas JJK viciously rips them out and shoves them down your throat while laughing at your pain.
I'd say the pain is more subtle and you'll have more time to think about the heartbreak while watching them move forward in the future :D I think the way the flashbacks were placed in between the present scenes are very meaningful and well-paced too. JJK is something you watch if you want to hurt yourself with heartbreak with no guarantee of a happy ending lol
@@jgShadowCan't argue with that
Yeah I started watching Frieren after episode 5 of season 2 of JJK, and I just couldn't keep watching JJK and just binged Frieren instead. I love JJK tho, but never went back. Maybe I should soon.
Manga spoiler for jjk :
There is kind of a happy ending at the end ....kinda!!
Frieren was such fresh air. I blindly watched it expecting it to be just plain adventury-magic-esque type of show but ended up with so much wholesomeness
After reflecting about it for a while, I realized that this might be my favourite pilot ever (at least with the 20 minute format). It’s amazing how this episode manages to combine so many heartfelt moments with an inevitable tragedy soon after that all ties in with the main character’s flaw. And that doesn’t come in form of a demon or any heartpounding, flashy action scenes, just the passage of time and Frieren’s lack of understanding of human lifespans and their emotional connections. The fact that it happens so quickly really gives a good insight in how an elf perceives time and it’s all the more impressive how we as an audience actually manage to care even though we knew Himmel for just a short amount of time (just like Frieren did).
It does good but it's unfortunate that this 20 minute episode isn't the first episode and is more of part 1 of the first episode thanks to the way it was originally released being cut up into the first 4 episodes
@@zexalplays This is definitly the first ep and also intended to be the first episode. The first 4 episode were released together as a promo but are four seperate episodes. There are clear narrative breaks between the episodes and even a bit of a recap on the fourth epiode bc they are four distinct episodes. That mainly also follow the two story per episode formula the shoe establishes.
One thing that's interesting is that the voice actor who plays Himmel in the Japanese version is the same voice actor who Bakugo in MHA (Nobuhiko Okamoto), and in the English dub, they also use the same voice actor for Himmel as for Bakugo (Clifford Chapin), which just goes to show how talented they both are since these characters are so extremely different from one another.
After you finish the series, I highly recommend going back and rewatching this first episode again. Everything hits you much harder and seems more significant so that you can really appreciate how amazing this episode and this show really are. I mean, on its surface, it's a show about interpersonal relationships and the passage of time. That just doesn't sound that exciting or interesting, at least in terms of anime, and yet this is probably my favorite anime of all time (so far). I think I may focus my attention on manga and anime written by women more often from now on. Given how much I've enjoyed this series, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Violet Evergarden, and Apothecary Diaries, I don't think I can really go wrong with this decision.
Frieten is such a beautiful anime. It's so heartwarming and healing, and different from your typical anime because it does take place after the happily ever after.
This is probably the best show that started in the last decade.
Me too is amzing show and sweet sotry❤
It's up there.
This is one of those shows where you can get just as much on a rewatch as you can from your first watch. For example, it's amazing just how much harder Himmel's death hits, after you've finished the season.😢
I dunno WHAT was wrong with me when I first watched this episode and season, but it wasn't till my first rewatch that I realized, "I think I love this series."
At the end of this anime you have to see Dungeon Meshi(Delicious and Dungeon), similar world, different vibe, same level of enjoyment! So happy to finally watch you react to Frieren, one of my favorites no doubt
YAAAAYYYY IM SO HAPPY YOU GUYS ARE STARTING FRIEREN!!! You're in for a wonderful journey
Even knowing Frieren was beloved by pretty much everyone and I came in with high expectations, the show still blew me away. The animation, voice acting and music are all fantastic, but the writing is what makes the show truly stand out. The characters are all so likeable and well written and it deals with such complex themes like grief and love in a way that stuck with me even months after finishing it.
I can't wait!
Such a cozy show, I know you two will enjoy it
Perfect for Saturdays ☺️
Good choice.
I heard this show won "Best Anime TV Series" at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2025.
Since I havent Seen anyone mention It: the names of the Characters are all regular German words. For example: "Frieren" more or less means Feeling cold, "Himmel" means Sky or Heaven, "Eisen" is Iron etc. That goes for all the cast although I wont list all of them Here since they somewhat spoil the themes of the Characters.
I agree with you here l love it❤
SO excited for you guys to watch this one.
Surprised you didn't notice - the young looking shopkeeper that she was bartering with was the same as the much older one she was discussing the shadow dragon horn with, showing that a great deal of time had passed.
Something I found really surprising when I first watched this show was that Himmel's english voice actor is the same person who voices Bakugo in the MHA dub! 👀
On this point, they're only following the japanese casting since the japanese VA is also the one who voiced Bakugo !
THE WAY I JUST SCREAMED SEEING THIS OH MY GOD I'M SO EXCITED
Glad you guys are reacting to this. One of the best animes ive ever seen!
I am so incredibly excited for this series(also HxH)!
Ever since I finished Frieren I've been saying "I can't wait for Kenny and Montana to react to this". I'm so glad you're finally watching it! You're in for something really special and beautiful.
I agree with you here l love his show iş amzing and cold too💗❤️
19:42 Frieren lives on a timescale where she can pass through a prospering city, return "not long later" and see it reduced to rubble with the citizens having left.
She has seen nations rise, grow, and fall so many times that ten years or fifty years are not long in her perspective.
OMG this show is just so good and I’m so happy you guys are finally watching it!!! My favourite show of all time!
This anime just tell you that life goes always on, and you should cherish the moments you live and the people you encounter. That's the reason why the story here starts where it usually ends in other narratives.
I hope you guys stick with the dub. Just because there basically no other react channels that use it and I think it's a huge slap in the face to start with a dub and then switch because some people complained.
I literally just started this yesterday! It’s really one of those interesting stories where the main events have already passed and you’re left with the aftermath, like in One Punch Man where Saitama is already the strongest and is struggling to deal with that. This however focused more on the importance of connections and the struggles of eternal life (or just long lifespans in this case) that I feel is definitely worth exploring👍
This anime is so deep with the passage of time it’s absolutely incredible and quickly became my favorite anime of all time
Man fern's baby voice in japanese was so adorable. But oh well it is what it is.
It's adorable here, as well.
I'm so excited to watch you all react to this. I have been SOBBING for the last 30 minutes going through all my emotions for this show. It's legitimately one of my favorite shows (probably my all-time favorite)
Frieren reactions?? Let's go! I think they're going to love it
For me, Frieren is on par with AOT... Just the only anime besides AOT and Solo Leveling to give me that feeling of i guess... Fulfillment? i guess that word works
For me, the only anime that made me watch all of them and rewatch them later were Fullmetal Alchemist, Death Note, AoT, and Frieren.
YES! the only show that made me regularly cry. That must mean its the best.
could've sworn they reacted to this already, time to strap in again
Frieren in this dub version really sounds apathetic and like she is dead inside (sounds like an underpaid or first-time or both VA just reading the text with little intonation). But in fact she is just introvert and collected, not so apathetic in the original. I watched this dub version at first too, but then completely switched to sub version. Sooo much better - both in terms of voice actors and the quality of translation, which is less twisted and much closer to the original deeper meaning in sub.
You are in good hands with Frieren. This show gently pulls at your heart almost every episode without breaking it.
Haven't actually seen much of this anime, but I'll probably enjoy experiencing it along side Mr. & Mrs. Letts.
Fun Fact: the VA for Frieren (Mallorie Rodak) has voiced 2 other elves before and every week the anime aired she posted on Twitter
ah the first time of frieren's mimic addiction
Finally, I've been waiting for this reaction. Thank you😊
Watching the show myself, love that y’all are reacting to it as well🔥❤️🔥🔥🤘🏾
9:20 that be lord beerus you hear 🤘🏾
"Journey beyond end" is amazing as ocidental title but i wold like to bring attention to the original title
"Sōsō no Frieren" has many meanings so here a few of then:
"Frieren at the funeral" the most direct translation
"Frieren who morns" another very close to direct translation
"Frieren who brings Funeral" that is kinda a funny as sorta reads as "Frieren the Undertaker"
Excited to follow this series! Frieren is a great show, somehow managing to be both cosy and epic at the same time.
Long before Vox Machina did it, a little show called "Record of Lodoss War." was based off of actual play and write ups in a Japanese magazine.
I forget his name off the top of my head, but the dude that voice acts Heiter has been in like 200ish various anime and video games. Hes a really good VA and his voice is everywhere
Madhouse is one of the all time great anime studios. I was very excited to hear they were returning to do season 2.
Ooooooh how I've been waiting for this!
Would love to see the two of you play D&D together with some friends! :D
That'd be a blast!
When it comes to how I rate media something that is heavily weighted for me is the ending. Like i don't wanna watch a movie, show, book, etc. if the ending just ruined the whole experience. That doesn't mean i don't appreciate bad endings. Take Cyberpunk tragic ending, but a great ending for the story. All that to say while this anime is not finished and as such i could never give it a 10/10 as a series it's a 9/10 on just this season. I loved this anime
Omg I have been waiting for this!!!
This show just makes you reflect on life every episode. No other anime had ever done this to me
I'm so glad you started this show. It's gonna heal something in you and unexpectedly become one of your favorites. That's what happened to me 🥺✨️
YES! FINALLY!
Been wanting this for a while now
Yess!!! Thank you for watching this. Keeping coming to your channel to see if you had watched Frieren.
I am happy. My wished is fulfilled😊
So if your curious about the abrupt endings you like alot of people didnt know this but the first 4 episodes were meant as an hour and a half long special so they can be abit weird at their endings just to let you know
Blame Crunchyroll for splitting them up
I honestly never felt that. I think these first four episodes flow just fine on their own, and having four episodes for one reaction video is unreasonable.
@HaydrogenBomb which is why only 2 reaction channels have ever done all 4 but a lot have also broken it down to 2 because episode 2 has a more satisfying conclusion then the first
As someone who isn't very big on Anime, and had only watched a few of the most famous ones. Often very violent ones like Attack on Titan, I was very reluctant to watch Frieren, it sounded cliche and sappy and full of anime tropes I don't like. I have never been so happy to be wrong. I rate it as the best written season 1 of any show I've ever seen. Its exceptional and I cannot get enough of it, which surprises me even now to say. It's a masterpiece.
Another anime based off of d&d, Record of Lodoss War was based off of the workplace campaign of the publishers who were translating d&d to Japan. It is the source that all fantasy anime draws from.
I started this show two days ago and yesterday I looked on your channel to see if you have reacted to it and was disappointed to see that you didn’t and today here we go 😂
Knew I would love Frieren, but waited for your reaction🎉
“Too old to swing an axe these days”
Not him saying that when he just speed blitzed the Caelid Dog monster from Elden ring in the previous montage
He swung a stick, not an axe.
The realization isn't that life is too short to not pay attention, but rather that the lives SHE CARES ABOUT are too short. Her own life is abundantly long for her to take as much time as she could ever want for each and every thing that catches her fancy, but if she doesn't focus on the people she cares about they will be gone before she really gets to know them.
I am so glad you guys decided to watch this show. For me this is the anime of the year.
I knew someday you gonna react to this and that day is here. One of my top 3 favourite anime.
This anime is peak.
I remember reading Frieren way before the anime came out, and thought this was just an average story, I had the same notion when AoT was manga only, it was mysterious but the insanely well made story it would become.
The anime for Frieren, really put the atmosphere and the feeling of the story in such a different light.
Though I did read ahead of the anime after finishing season 1.
Season 2 will be great, like I could not stop reading when I first started and have already re-read all that is out.
LET'S GOOOOOO!!!! Another ten year journey!
bro finally I've been waiting for this !!!!
Somebody's starting freiren. Wooow 😲
actually... speaking of a D&D series where they animated it after: record of lodoss war is exactly that. there's a few "record of ___" anime but lodoss war was the first one. I think its fun either way.
Studio Madhouse's animation is obviously stellar in this show, but I think I love Evan Call's musical score even more. 🎶 🎶
It's so distinct among anime soundtracks, even other fantasy series. There are times when Frieren's music gives me Lord of the Rings vibes, and THAT is high praise.
Definitely on all my rewatches it's always the music that hits me the hardest.
Goodness me, I’ve been waiting for this to be released 🎉🎉🎉
The Hero's Party at their prime were AT LEAST level 16 in D&D 5e, possibly higher since the manga has only just started showing more glimpses of their feats.
"so it looks like we got elves. there are regular people and there are" "yeah very D&D" THATS JUST REGULAR FANTSY!!!!
Finally! I can rewatch it with you guys 🥰
This quickly became my favorite anime of all time. It’s amazing how quickly the characters become so important to you, and how well developed the show makes you feel the world and the characters are, in about 10 minutes. Masterclass in writing and expressing emotional passages that resonate later on. I suppose you already have an opinion being 11 episodes I already. I can’t watch it in the English dub, as I feel the Japanese voices are just too good, especially in show with this much character emphasis, but I hope you enjoy the show! Season 2 was announced, too!
1 of my favorite non autistic autistic babies! 😭 frieren is such a nice allegory for what it can be like to be autistic. accidentally ghosting the few people you have in your life really sucks and when you realize what youve missed its often too late. seeming apathetic when you really do care. not expressing emotions well and not understanding others even though youre meant to
i love frieren so much!
I am so ready for the wholesome tears!!!
After countless rewatching reactions I recognize the first time that the picture shown in Ewigs grimore (at 22:40) probably is about the scale of subjugation. I dare to write it since you already watched beyond that episode as said for the patreon advertise.
I literally cried in this series. One of the best series in dub
The United States is an undisputed sports powerhouse, and its sports infrastructure is among the best in the world, both in terms of quantity and quality.
And Korea, where I'm from, is strong in esports because of a unique infrastructure called PC Bang.
Similarly, Japan has the best infrastructure in the world for manga and anime, especially for voice acting.
There are tons of great voice actors and the detail in the acting is the best. That's why we have to watch anime with sub.
At the start of the show during the time skip you will notice the young shopkeeper she is bartering with at the start of the montage is the same shopkeeper as the old man she is talking with at the end of it.
I watched so many reactions to this show already, probably more than any other show. Must have indirectly watched the show 30 times by now. This is the first time I'll see it in english though. Have been so accustomed to the japanese voices that english just feels wrong. Especially since Frierens voice is so different. Dont wanna be a sub vs dub elitist so I def will continue, but I dunno if I'll ever be able to vibe with the eng dub. There are only 3-4 anime shows I can think of with a superior dub over sub.
Black Lagoon
Death Note
Edgerunners
Attack on Titan
Ghost Stories (but for a different reason than the others 😅)
This is an amazing show! At times i can feel a bit slow but thats part of its magic just sit back and enjoy the moment 😉
FINALLY. Kennys DnD RP is gonna level up after this show
Best anime of 2024 💯👌🏻
i literally googled frieren reactions this morning, realised you hadnt done it yet and so didnt watch any and was sad XD.
Finally a dub reaction channel. I was thinking about making one myself but i doubt I would have gotten views since i am not interesting.
I would highly recommend to pay attention to the lyrics of that ending, the animation is amazing, but the lyrics just speaks to the plot so much that it makes me emotional, I think it's my favorite song from any anime last year, it has a special importance to me too that just makes it have that much more impact
Of course we'll have plenty of opportunities for them to appreciate it more as more episodes goes by, looking forward to more episodes of this show regardless
wHICH DUB IS THIS!?
There are two and I dislike the Netflix one!
Not sure who has the other one!
Finally getting a chance to catch up on this reaction
I've seen a lot of reactions for this story, and one thing inmediatly evident was the dub removes a lot of the emotion this originally evokes. Everyone pretty much cries in the first episode, and rightly so, yet dubbed it's just entertainment. Tones and words chosen for the dub are alright, but not exactly what they should be. Nice reaction though. I'd recommend switching to original if you really care about the experience.
Whoa, I've never heard the English dub of this, Frieren's voice caught me way off guard 😅
In a good or bad way?
Neither really, I got used to it by the end of the episode
Love ya'lls channel, you and your pets are so cute lol
I hope someone told them that both Himmel's english and japanese VA also voices _B A K U G O_
i still can't get over it especially the japanese version ITS JUST SO SOFT AND DIFFERENT
