I love Jed Bartlett but this scene is cancer. Putting all this on his youngest daughter. Did he have this conversation with his other daughters? His granddaughter? Each of which is as vulnerable if not more so as they don't live in the white house. This is straight up emotional manipulation. Its not his choice to become president that's the issue. its the actions of a young girl that are the problem. And the sorrowful and tearful hug after she is battered down. yuck!
you are joking right. As a dad of 5. 3 are girls. you damn right everyone has this talk of the evils of the world. If you do not you invite your kids to get taken. Stop being soft and live in the real world were kids are kidnap and sold off. It does not matter if you are President or just a dad. If the cops just brought you kid home after you know they are safe you are going to be angry at them and yourself that you did not give them enough to keep them safe.
His other daughters didn't have secret service protection, and weren't teenagers who wanted to ignore or were ignorant of all the dangers. Also, is it emotional manipulation when a cigarette pack says that cigarettes will definitely lower your life expectancy?
This was a painful talk for both of them, but she needed to hear it because her behaviour at the bar showed that she wasn't taking seriously enough her safety and the job her security guards had to do. If she'd kept on that way, eventually she would have gotten some security guard(s) killed and/or herself abducted. Life can't always be fair, and part of growing up is learning that perpetual truth.
Lizzie is a house wife, and even if they aren't being followed with a full detail due the stress to home life. They are probably under extreme defensive surveillance and a counter assault fire team in case the first family is hurt or threatened. During the kidnapping arc Bartlet immediately asks Ron to confirm the secret service already secured their other daughters. Ellie we also learn in her episodes with the research scientist fiancé accompanied by a well sized detail. Something Bartlet probably became more adamant about once Zoey was freed
Bro she's old enough to be in college, which means she has been old enough to face the reality of her situation for multiple years. Are you one of those people who shelter their kids 100%, then ship them off unsupervised to college? Because I remember kids with parents like that, and NOBODY crashed and burned the way those kids did.
The foreshadowing of this scene is incredible. As is the acting.
The most important takeaway from this clip is that Benjamin is still the prime minister today
You want to be treated like an adult, kiddo? Well, here it is.
Sorkin's words said at sorkin speed.
Zoey got to be 19 in season 1 and then was 17 in season 2.
She was supposed to be 17, but it was changed before the show started. According to the wiki...

What most powerful bout this is IT became true
It's almost as if situations were created by the show's writers specifically so that they could be used in later plot lines . . .
@@kurtlaughlin4250 That’s crazy talk. 😉
@@kurtlaughlin4250no doubt. The writing, the acting…..brilliant.
