Ethically, it's fine to defer to the extremely skilled and qualified physician who already knows the patient's medical history, and his work requirements, so intimately. And not arguing in front of that patient is excellent bedside manner. as Chris Rock put it so eloquently, his parents taught him "don't fight in front of the white people".
It's hard to imagine that Martin and Stockard were originally scheduled to make rare appearances on the show. But then the audience spoke and both these actors realized that they were going to be a part of something special. Now we have an important part of TV history.
The amazing thing is that they had never met until their first day on set together. Yet 6 or 7 seasons later it’s hard to imagine how the show would have survived without their characters interacting. Happy coincidence?
They way she takes the chair and lowers her head in ( seeming prayer/ fear/ love / worry) ? Is so perfect you have no idea this is acting...this? is marriage....so well done

Stockard Channing absolutely killed in the show. In this scene, she switches so swiftly from First lady to loving wife in a millisecond. Their love was so real on this show. Bravo!
Genea Cunningham So many great actors. So little time. It must have been hard for Sorkin to find time for all of them. While juggling that, he had to keep up the quality and the logic of the story of each episode.
They clearly didn't want to overuse Channing in her early appearances. They weren't sure how she was going to be received. They needed someone who could do to the tiny screen what Martin Sheen did. I think she excelled, but the woman's a bottle of tobasco. Too much too soon and you could ruin the whole meal. They used her sparingly and to great effect, turning her more into cayenne pepper in a home brewed stew concoction that warms the heart and heals the body. This whole show was like well prepared culinary cuisine. Our compliments to the chef.

I have rheumatoid arthritis, which is a similar inflammatory autoimmune disorder exacerbated by stress. I literally can't fathom how he managed the presidency with his condition. Mine went from zero symptoms to moderate/severe in 2 years because I was Active Duty military at the time of my diagnosis and my med board took six times longer than normal due to COVID. I was barely functional by the time I went on terminal leave. I know this is just a tv show but in real life I don't think he could have hidden his illness at all.
At the end, the look on her face of anguish, care, love & concern all the same time. Beautiful Mrs. Bartlett. Beautiful. 😊

To be fair she was on Broadway a lot during the show's run so they used her when they could.
That is what made her great. I always sat up and paid a little more attention when they brought her in.
