She also put the organ in our home, and the budgie in our hearts...& along with the great Catherine O'Hara, one of the greatest comic actresses of the last 40yrs. "I believe in miracles...where you from? You sexy thing..." (p.s. 1 of the greatest nights of my life was in 1980 at U of T when I attended an "Evening With John Candy". Unbelievably brilliant & funny, & ended the night inviting the entire crowd out to the pub for beers on him..lol. An eternal national treasure. #LaRue4Ever!)
I took classes at Second City in Santa Monica (yes, they were there for a minute) and had the opportunity to meet Andrea Martin...she is the nicest woman ever, and a huge talent...loved her on SCTV
So glad I found you couch candy no television show has yet to match SCTV just the brilliance of writing , memorable characters They created, watching your shows is like a family reunion of sorts it’s so great to get those personal insights from the people Who worked with your dad I so much enjoyed Big Jim McBob on farm report to see them blow the guest up ...and they blowed up real good. not to mention the rock concerts my particular favorite was the tubes
The Characters , Not Just Andrea, but the rest of the Cast were able to take with after second city, and even on Sesame Street Yosh & Stan Schmenge, Ed Grimley, McKenzies, Lola Heatherton and Edith Prickly, Her other Characters Perini Scleroso, Fiona Corinuies, Mrs Falbo,...as well being able to emulate Barbara Streisand, Patti Smith, Joni Mitchell I Loved The Queen Haters!...The Talent This Woman Has, Genius!!!...
I enjoyed this video SO MUCH! Andrea is AWESOME!! Please bring her back for a round two. Maybe you could have SCTV alum on in pairs, like Andrea and Martin Short!
Everyone from SCTV is so down to earth and naturally funny. All the main performers- John, Candy, Joe Flaherty, Andrea Martin, Rick Moranis, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short, Dave Thomas- are all, in a way, personal heroes of mine, and, along with David Letterman, Monty Python and Steve Martin, totally shaped my sense of humor in junior high and high school. I laughed as hard at Andrea Martin's characters as i've ever laughed at anything. Great interview. It really does feel like family.
Andrea is so adorable and genuine, and crazily humble about her talent. Not only did she do some fine imitations, but she did a lot of one-off characters, which is harder in many ways. I always found Mrs Falbo's tiny town really funny, partly because of her mysteriously adversarial relationship with Mr Messenger (John Candy.) She nearly got him killed in the episode shown here! This was quite an escalation after Mr. Messenger's wisecrack. I don't think any backstory was ever explained. Maybe Adrea and John decided to play them as couple, or perhaps a couple that had broken up, but were still obligated to do a cheesy children's show together? SCTV always had multiple layers in their sketches. There has never been a show like it.
Like Jen said, she captures the personality of the character so well. Edith Prickley, Pirini, Kinsey,... they don't seem like characters, they seem like real people. I loved it when she was doing Lorna Minelli and Catherine was doing Lola Heatherton. That whole SCTV cast was so good.
Living in Canada, a person still is an American, as Canadians and Mexicans are all Americans. The distinction is moving from the U.S., to Canada, from one American country to another American country. For some reason, at some point, we stopped thinking in terms of countries as being distinct from continents
Always laugh when I see the Mellonville Prison as it is the R. C. Harris Water Treatment Plant in Toronto. The exterior has doubled as either a prison or an asylum in a number of movies and TV Shows over the years though.
i love SCTV! i still watch episodes today, because it was such an insanely creative show. and andrea martin . . .!! so fkn funny, sooo hot! i remember her liza minelli character on the sammy maudlin show made me laugh so hard that i had to hit my inhaler.
My favorite character from her time at SCTV was her character Prini Schlerosi (the cleaning lady), that could not have been based on any living being. It was comedy at it's finest.
I grew up with this stuff. Dave Thomas was the glue at SCTV. The host is too loud and interrupts too much; difficult to hear Dave and not funny or talented at all. It's great to see these stellar comedians despite the vehicle. SCTV rocks - RIP JC ....
I'm getting goosebumps. I loved Andrea Martin more than any other female comedian and John Candy probably for guys. You look just like your dad and I'm sorry for your loss.

I thought it was Pasadena.
@@stevenbeall9637 before my time the sctv cast was in pasadena...then there was a short run in santa monica...
Andrea has a truck load of talent!
So underated she is!! My fav on sctv.
Can we just take a second to talk about how cute it is that Jennifer got her dad’s iconic laugh? I adore both of these ladies!

Thank you all it makes me happy seeing this.

I really hope Andrea performs Edith Prickley sometime.
I'm glad they showed Mrs. Falbo. By the way, that "prison" was the R.C Harris Water Treatment Plant in Scarborough, just east of Toronto.

I LOVED her in club paradise.
...Libby Wolfson--you go, girl!
The Melonville Prison was actually the Waterworks--the water purification and pumping station--in east end Toronto (Beaches)
Is that right?!
@@CouchCandy He's right, just google R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant and you will see pictures of it.
She was iconic as Indira.
I love Andrea Martin she was one of my favorite SCTV comedians.. and she does a perfect Bernadette Peters... its a riot.
Funny lots of the Canadians from sctv moved to us. But Andrea an American moved to Canada . I think that's cool.

Man she looks great! She looks exactly the same as she did back in the 80's! I suspect she has a painting hidden somewhere...
Frenchy in the Toronto skit
