Andrea Martin is Albanian.
Like Jen said, she captures the personality of the character so well. Edith Prickley, Pirini, Kinsey,... they don't seem like characters, they seem like real people. I loved it when she was doing Lorna Minelli and Catherine was doing Lola Heatherton. That whole SCTV cast was so good.
I really like how Martin Short is wearing the Order of Canada pin on his jacket.
Joe Flaherty gone but still still funny as all hell! Just listening to him had me cracking up. Loved SCTV, tremendous comedy talent.
Thank you all it makes me happy seeing this.
My favorite0 candy is the Bum candy bar with maple .
He was amazingly talented
The Candy Couch sounds a lot better.
RIP Mike and you are the spit of your dad.
My late brother and I watched SCTV every week on a local station that carried Canadian comedy like SCTV, Red Green & of course Brits comedy Benny Hill, Faulty Towers, etc…. SCTV was far better of an all around talented comedy show. Even SNL. So many great memories with my brother watching the best cast ever. Thanks for sharing this Candy Couch moment. ❤️🥲
Martin Short is the kind of guy who could rob you in broad daylight but so charming and funny that you wouldn't care! 😆 Love this guy!
Joe Flaherty will be eternally missed. The SCTV ensemble was totally brilliant but they would have been disconnected without Joe. Also missed will be Count Floyd, Guy Caballero, Floyd Robertson, Bud Abbott, Rochester, Jim Bob, and countless others.
I feel bad now. Dave Thomas played so many angry characters so well I assumed he was a jerk in real life. Glad to see I'm very wrong.
He had the happiest eyes I've ever seen
Wonderful actor/comedian, absolutely love his dry delivery. We need more Marc Evan Jackson in our lives!
So sad there wasn't ever a part 2.
Dave Thomas Deserve Oscars
😉
😅
Fantastic interview/ chat with your bro in law.
Love you guys! 💖💖
if only my kids would honour me like this, but they never will. good girl! her dad would be proud.
Jennifer Candy is so amazing. She is so freaking beautiful yet she looks just like her dad.
The audience is louder than Tom
Sctjew
I found this show following Joe Flaherty's death. The skit Dave is referencing at 9:15 is from one of the first half-dozen episodes in Season 1 of SCTV. Fake ad for Cornabix cereal. Flaherty is Guy Lafleur. Candy is Darryl Sittler. As kids, my brother and I couldn't pick up our hockey sticks without saying, "I use a Darryl Sittler hockey stick" in a really bad French accent. And then, "And I use a Guy Lafleur hockey stick" in a squeaky voice. The fight at the end was always optional.
Joe was simply fantastic, especially on SCTV. So many great characters and John Candy's daughter looks just like her dad.
Everyone from SCTV is so down to earth and naturally funny. All the main performers- John, Candy, Joe Flaherty, Andrea Martin, Rick Moranis, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short, Dave Thomas- are all, in a way, personal heroes of mine, and, along with David Letterman, Monty Python and Steve Martin, totally shaped my sense of humor in junior high and high school. I laughed as hard at Andrea Martin's characters as i've ever laughed at anything. Great interview. It really does feel like family.
The great thing about SCTV was their hilarious characters, all willing to share a scene. One of the best comedies ever.
The cast of SCTV (Joe, John, Catherine, Eugene, Martin, Andrea, Rick and Dave), along with David Letterman and Steve Martin, were my comedy heroes in junior high and high school. I just couldn't get enough of any of them. They totally formed my sense of humor. And i still watch all of that stuff to this day. Lately my favorite Joe Flaherty character is Rocco from Days of the Week, but they're all just so funny. Sammy Maudlin is especially an all-time fave-- The Sammy Maudlin Show produced some of SCTV's greatest moments. R.I.P. Joe Flaherty.
I loved him as the dance hall announcer character in 1941, with the little white mouse on his shoulder. His border guard in Stripes was great too. Those were my introduction to Joe. Funny and nice guy.
Something wrong with the audio on this show...
HOW R YAH!!!! (Bobby Bittman)
Three years later, I'm finding this channel. I swear, is there ANY character on SC-TV that isn't outshining the best of hyperboles? Dave THomas - from Walter Cronkite to Bob Hope and a kajillion others. And creating greatness each outing. Just amazing.
His Count Floyd stuff was golden . He would reference Pittsburgh and towns around it . Fellow Pittsburgher and U.S. Air Force vet here . We miss you Joe . What a talent !!!!
David is on the right track to be anti-Netanyahu. However, he's obviously in a pickle since none of the major presidential candidates are not anti-Netanyahu, and the elitist phoney left either feigns sadness for the Palestinians or stands by the fact that Israel has the right to wipe out a race. He, however, buys into the "threat to democracy" of Trump, probably brought on by his wife, but real anti-establishment is never going to come from an election cycle where voters are pressured into picking sides from blue and red that have nothing in mind for the betterment of the lives of Americans. In all reality, the class system is locked in and will never change and if someone wants healthcare, real access to higher education and a better work-life balance, it is easier to learn a foreign language amd move to a country that has these things than to fight for any of the above. If course, there are endless other problems in the states that will never be solved, but we cannot vote ourselves out of it... essentially we're doomed.
Finally the straight scoop on whether The Schmenges were really playing their instruments. Both John and Eugene did such a convincing job of feigning playing their instruments I gave them better than a 50% chance they were indeed playing for real.
Joe was one of the many characters on Nero Wolfe it was a great cast and I love seeing Joe in those iconic Nero Wolfe shows a different identity each show so talented.
Man she looks great! She looks exactly the same as she did back in the 80's! I suspect she has a painting hidden somewhere...
I never found him nor his brother funny, but he's pretty interesting here anyway.
Haha, I know, how ridiculous is it that the CFL for decades, in a 9 team league had 2 teams with the same name! Oh wait though, the 2 teams spelled Roughriders differently.
Thanks for posting. Had no idea this channel existed...f*#king great! RIP Mr. F. ❤☮🌎
OMG! Jen looks like her pops! Awesome.
Too thin.
Rip Joe. Such a funny face and an even funnier presentation. Fantastic on halfwits. I was also an engineer for a mine equipment manufacturer a couple of years ago in northern Ontario. My experiences are EXACTLY THE SAME as his. I love engineering and design, but I couldn't do those rollers drawings anymore.
What was his favourite candy?
funny to see how much alive he became recalling all the fun from SCTV. It was like he never aged. Seems age is all in how you feel and present yourself.
RIP...
just the sound of his voice brings back so many memories. I hope he's having a laugh with John on the other side.
The chat portion of this livestream was probably not a good idea. Had to close that Pandora's box...sheesh!
I lament being born beyond the '30s and '40s film greats, but I am soooo thankful that I lived all thru the SCTV and it's preceding times.
