I loved him as the dance hall announcer character in 1941, with the little white mouse on his shoulder. His border guard in Stripes was great too. Those were my introduction to Joe. Funny and nice guy.

SCTV is my favorite comedy show of all time. Count Floyd, Guy Cabellero, Vic Arpeggio, Sammy Maudlin, Rocco and many others are all classic characters Joe created.

An enormous talent whose influence ran thru everyone on SCTV and early SNL. With or without the wheelchair, he will forever have our respect..and love.
One of the Greatest skits is called Dr. Tongues 3 D House of Stewardess, Rays Count Floyd, John Candy a dr Frankenstein character, and Eugene Levy as henchman Bruno, absolutely Hysterical, you will Howl.
I remember seeing him on the episode of Married...With Children where Al's teeth hurt and Flaherty played the dentist whose in the middle of a bitter divorce while the dental assistant he cheated on his wife with is spending all his money.
Sctv was a big part of my childhood. Only 2 other kids in school knew about it and watched it. We would recreate some of the scenes and act like some of the sketches in school. Everyone thought we were crazy

The cast of SCTV (Joe, John, Catherine, Eugene, Martin, Andrea, Rick and Dave), along with David Letterman and Steve Martin, were my comedy heroes in junior high and high school. I just couldn't get enough of any of them. They totally formed my sense of humor. And i still watch all of that stuff to this day. Lately my favorite Joe Flaherty character is Rocco from Days of the Week, but they're all just so funny. Sammy Maudlin is especially an all-time fave-- The Sammy Maudlin Show produced some of SCTV's greatest moments. R.I.P. Joe Flaherty.
"SCTV" and "Fridays" were 2 of my most favorite shows as a teenager. I almost felt like I'd discovered 2 secret gems that most of my friends were probably too dim or juvenile to enjoy. 😆

All these chats with the SCTV cast are great to watch. Clear to see that she grew up around them and now she gets to give them a place to reminisce about the days of the stage and TV shows. I can’t help but wonder if her resemblance to her father strikes them at times during the interviews. Especially since she frequently reacts with expressions that could practically be “William B Williams” on the couch with them. She has the same smiling head tilts her dad had. One thing I’m noticing, though, is that it’s hard to trust the dates these shows are said to be posted on. Many say 4 years, others say 4 months, and this one only two weeks ago. Maybe they’re being put up on TH-cam on these dates, but they were all recorded around 2015? Certainly a interview with an audience isn’t being conducted well into a pandemic without ever mentioning it. Still, if these are just posted on dates, why are they so far apart? Put up a few, wait 4 years, then put up a few more? Doesn’t make a ton of sense, so it creates some doubt as to whether TH-cam’s “posted on” dates are reliable or not. Whatever the case, it’s good to see any time this talented cast is given a little more spotlight, and it adds a really nice touch that the interviews are all conducted by someone who both knows them from back then and carries on a bit of their old comrade.
Sammy Maudlin needs to get a new talk show! William B is gone, but my guess is that Bobby Bittman, Lola heatherton, and the ghost of Bob Hope might be available as guests! Maybe skip Bitmann is still in the biz?

Rip Joe. Such a funny face and an even funnier presentation. Fantastic on halfwits. I was also an engineer for a mine equipment manufacturer a couple of years ago in northern Ontario. My experiences are EXACTLY THE SAME as his. I love engineering and design, but I couldn't do those rollers drawings anymore.
Joe was one of the many characters on Nero Wolfe it was a great cast and I love seeing Joe in those iconic Nero Wolfe shows a different identity each show so talented.
...We Adopted Joe rather quickly as He seemed to just fit up Here with The Culture He did A hilarious take off of "Going Down the Road" with Jayne Eastwood (who was an original character) John and Andrea, and the bit on Front page Challenge (believe it was headline challenge) The Characters He Did with John and Created "Dr.Braino" , " Big Jim McBob & Billy Sal Hurok", "Sammy and William B." , "Guy and LaRue" , "Rocco and Dr.Wainright", of course Darrell Sittler and Guy Lafleur was like watching Them play Jazz , Just the timing and Wit would be perfect, always a riot! eventually Joe admitted John did not like playing the Sammy Maudlin stints as He couldn't stand the character or the way He laughed!, Just Like His colleagues Joe is one of the Greatest!!!... I would Love to See Jen bring in Paul Flaherty also Juul Halmeyer!...
Candy is 10x a better interviewer than Marc Maron. But why on earth cut off your interview for time when your legendary subject is willing and rolling strong??
Joe Flaherty will be eternally missed. The SCTV ensemble was totally brilliant but they would have been disconnected without Joe. Also missed will be Count Floyd, Guy Caballero, Floyd Robertson, Bud Abbott, Rochester, Jim Bob, and countless others.
I am not a SUPER FAN of anything . That is not me , at all. Well, just SCTV, and that is it. I would love to know where "Count Floyd" came from (the idea). When Mayor Tommy Shanks was chasing Earl Camembert how did you keep it together? And on and on.
Yea she's got a great personality, but where does she get the idea she needs to jump in every 2 minutes while he's telling a story. She needs to learn to not interrupt, for Crissake. But I get it, Joe talks a lot, what a funny man.
