    Finally someone spoke on behalf of dentist POV. Public generally dont know the hidden cost of each and everything in the clinic. Like Dr Sonia mentioned, the cost for dental chair itself can cash out a car. Cheaper brands maybe cash out an Axia, some higher spec chair can even cash out a full spec Honda City or even Civic. Another example will be the blue light that your dentist shines at your teeth when you're doing a filling. That thing only shines for 5-10 seconds or so but to buy that thing can cost a few thousands to about 10k! And with all the things above, some patients complains Dentist for charging RM30 consultation fee🤦🏼‍♂

    Can I just say that healthcare workers dont earn a lot. The money that we spend on our studies and also the tools we use is insanely expensive. As a Chiropractor in practice, to earn back what we pour out with the insanely weak conversion rate and alot of the manufacturers in US is HARD. Paying off certifications and tools are crazy painful :( But what makes us continue doing what we do is helping the patients :)

    Prosthodontists actually do not earn as much as orthodontists, endodontists or oral surgeons. Or the dentists who do a lot of implant surgeries and/or orthodontics. But at the end of the day, it is how business minded the dentist or specialist is. Dr Sonia is probably more passionate about teachings, so that’s why she seemed contented

    - Dr in GP charge RM10-RM30 for consultation fee. Which is so called expertise charge
    - Likewise, when I send car for maintenance, or calling plumbers/electrician to fix broken things at home. They charge ~RM50 for labour fee.
    - Yet some patients still asking for discount.
    I mean everyone is making money to live. Just don`t berkira lah. Only then economy will grows.

    The “brain drain” or “talent exodus” is a very real thing. Hearing the monthly income for roles in Malaysia vs UK (where I am from) is very different! Even after all the heavy National Insurance and Income taxes we have here the remaining amount for professionals is significantly higher than same equivalent before tax. However the cost of living is of course higher if you’re smart with money over here across the years it would accumulate into something very useable for possible later (early) retirement back in Malaysia, whilst also having worked for so long abroad to get the right to receive government pension makes it even more attractive to go abroad.

    In before the numbers of dentist rose exponentially they were earing a decent living, I am a second generation dentist, my parents were dentist. When i registered as a dentist in 2012 my registration number was in the 6000. Meaning there was only 6000 plus registered dentist that time, these days I think numbers went up double of that meaning the market has been saturated, and if you noticed the numbers on dental clinic has been sprouting everywhere. We earn above average yes but nowhere high as other higher demanding profession. I personally wouldn’t ask my children to take up dentistry unless they really show interest in it. If risk benefit I think there are better profession. People only see our monetary gain but the risk we take in regards of occupational hazzard long term, medicolegal risks, buisness risks. Which is why the proffesion has one of the highest suicide rate.

    About 15 years ago, my family and I were at Sunway area and I had a few hours to kill while the rest of my family went shopping. So I went to a nearby dental clinic and asked the price of scaling the teeth. I was told it was RM150 and so I agreed. Before the scaling the dentist applied a cream to numb the pain in the gum and after the scaling I believe he applied some fluoride to the teeth. I must declare the dentist did not say anything to me during the procedure and I assumed that all the creams applied was his standard procedure. The whole process was done in about 20min. I was the last patient of the day and the receptionist had gone home. So the dentist himself went to the reception to collect my payment. The price of the whole treatment was RM550. When you talk about how much will the dentist make, you may think a half hour procedure is RM150 but you do not factor in a few RMs worth of creams can inflate the total bill 3 to 4 times more.

    Just make the jump to Australia , and you can easily make AUD200k a year. If willing to OT, 300k also possible.
    While taxes is 45% but you still make loads more than in Malaysia.

    • @Whatexactlyispeace
      @Whatexactlyispeace หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Can’t be any more wrong. 45% is already the cap.
      Australia is not as expensive as you think.
      And it’s a no brainer. $10k rm per month living in Malaysia vs $10k AUD per month after taxes. You will definitely earn more and save more in Australia.

    • @Whatexactlyispeace
      @Whatexactlyispeace หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I can tell you affirmatively how much a dentist earns in Australia because I reside in Australia and my wife is a dentist.
      $300k per annum salary, deducting 45% tax (which is already the cap) leaves $165k of disposable income. Way more comfortable than an average dentist earning rm10k in Malaysia.
      You are right, the dentist degree cost $500k in Australia. But let’s compare apples to apples. The dentist in the video studied in Singapore. My comment was for her to make the jump to Australia and she can x5 her income.
      I get the whole patriotism, but look at it objectively. Malaysia pay is terribly low for professionals. The only reason why so many professionals are still working on Malaysia because it is still home.

    • @Whatexactlyispeace
      @Whatexactlyispeace หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think you are clearly missing the point.
      My original comment was directed at the dentist in the video to work in Australia and x5 her income.
      The cost of her education is already a sunk cost. My advice is based off her current situation where she already has a degree and is working. If she wants more money, go to Australia and the money will roll in way faster than she is in Malaysia.
      And I remain firm on my point that earning $165k AUD after taxes is more comfortable than $10k rm in Malaysia. If you cannot agree on this, then there’s no point commenting further.

      Helping people to what extent? Giving free treatment or dirt cheap services without taking into account of the operating cost. Dont be so entitled la. Just like any other business, running a clinic need capital and MONEY. Or do u think dentists live by breathing free air only, they dont need to buy food ar ? for you their time and pro skill has no value at all ? Or is there any countries that we can survive without using money , please share with us here, i would love to migrate those countries too.

      to sustain a clinic in order to help more people the clinic NEEDS money. healthcare is a business itself. you must be a government clinic patient. stay there.

      Bullshit !!! Who work not because of money ? Want cheap then go government clinic . To run a clinic , it need huge amount of money to sustain. Dentist still a normal human, they need to pay their own life expenses, loan .
