Hi Dennis. You are a legend my friend. I got into quads a few months ago. I only have one arm so flying them has been quite a steep learning curve. Your videos have been a source of massive help which has made the process for me a whole lot easier! I look forward to opening youtube to find new videos that you have submitted. Cheers buddy Simon. Manchester UK
Simon, thanks so much for the encouraging words. I'm glad to hear that despite having only one arm that you're learning how to fly. I can only imagine how difficult that must be and I appreciate you following along. Keep me posted on your progress and I appreciate the comment. All the best!
Nice video - I recently built a 450 quad with a Naza M V2 flight controller and this was a big help in getting it setup with my Taranis X9D and FrSky X8R receiver. I'll note that one thing that was driving me crazy at the end was I couldn't get the motors to arm. Finally I tried every combination of what Naza refers to as the CSC (Combination Stick Commands) to start the motors, and the only combo that would work was Left Stick (Th/Rud) to Lower Left corner and Right Stick (Elev/Ail) to Upper Right corner. That stick combo isn't even called out in the Naza manual as one of the four supported CSC positions! Not sure why this is different, but perhaps it's because the Tx and Rx are FrSky. Thanks for making videos like this - they're a great help to beginners and even experienced drone builders and flyers.
Hi Dennis! I was going crazy trying to get my D8R-XP to bind with my Taranis...I watched your video a ziilion times and finally figured out I needed to be in D8 mode! Whew! I was not going to be able to sleep tonight if I didnt figure it out!
Thanks for doing this with such clarity and quality production values!!!! I will have to look for some of your other videos. How refreshing it is to see such a well produced instructional video.
Great Help, Thank you! I was having an issue setting the failsafe until you made mention of Channel 5,6,7 on the X8R correpond to Port X1, X2, U. That did it for me!
Awesome videos man. Very helpful. As a complete noob to the hobby(as in never even soldered before) your videos have really got me going. GetFPV better be paying you a lot!!! Just spent a ton at their store. 100% due to your videos. Almost ready to start my build. Tarot 650 sport
Thanks Dennis for another great tutorial! I have a Taransis and I'm about to purchase a NAZA to put on my Disco clone. Have friends that run a NAZA FC but they had friends set them up and they go to them when they have problems. I want to know!!! Please keep them coming!!! Thanks
Once again a Fount of knowledge my friend. Thanks again for excellent and informative videos. The AETR thing might have bit me at one point on my next build since I am going S-Bus on it.
Dennis love your videos. Didn't you have to bind your receiver so you could test motor direction? You would need the naza powered up also? I'm a little fuzzy on this. Thanks again for awesome videos, I wouldn't try this without them.
Matthew Gilbert That's right. What I've done in the past is connected directly to the receiver and then got my motor rotation correct. Then I connect to my flight controller. Thanks for the feedback on the videos. Much appreciated.
Sorry to hear that. I've had all sorts of troubles with the DJI drivers in the past so make sure you Google around and see what you can dig up or maybe others here can help out. Good luck.
3:38 min - it happens to PPM as well on te Taranis. Seems like it's a Taranis bug. No big issue, just like you, powering down and up everything again resolves it for the Aileron halfway stick issue.
Thanks again. Been watching your videos for a long time. Many useful tips. Quick question: Since X8R is setup using CPPM, why did you select D-Bus and not PPM receiver type in Naza assistant?
Hey Dennis, this video and the flight mode videos were the best help out there and has my setup near completion. Thanks very much for all the hard work. I have one question regarding the X8R connected via SBUS... Can I add additional servos onto the Rx not included in the SBUS connection? If so which pins should I connect them to? Since the SBUS has 7 channels coming through 1 cable, I'd love to utilize the open servo ports on the Rx if possible.
Stephen Clute Thanks so much for the feedback. Yes you can absolutely do what you're asking. This video should help you out: th-cam.com/video/zXsvsYbW09E/w-d-xo.html Pay attention to the part of binding in a different mode than the default to get access to the extra channels. Good luck and keep us posted.
Just bind in mode 4 (page 2 of X8R manual), 1-8 SBUS, 9-16 PWM from receiver pins 1-8, add in mixer page and good to go. Also works with the X6R but only 6 conventional outputs to match the pins respectively.
You only used one connection to the X8R? I want to try this but my bluetooth datalink takes up all the room inside my P2...Nice video. I may have to move all the bluetooth datalink to outside the shell and try this!
Danny Chu I got it working with the one cable...I notice the default receiver (dji phantom 2 radio) also had another connection to X3...any idea what this is for? Also, I am having issues with my laptop pc using the dji win driver - not recognizing my phantom when using the assistant - any ideas?
zero00tolerance Is this while you're in the air or when it's close to you? I only ask because sometimes if I'm on the ground or in the garage and too close to my receiver it will give me that message. I've never had this happen otherwise.
Hi Dennis :-)) this is great video, I am on F450 in these days and your video is great and useful one. You helped me much. If you make an other video about 3 switch and IOC this will be great thank you very much.. Kemal
Hi! First of, awesome video man! I'm about to buy a X8R for my TBS Discovery (use a left over spectrum receiver now). And I'm trying to be one step ahead on the new one. My question: in the video, you hook up the s-bus on X8R to X2 on the Naza, but the cables is still connected to naza A E T & R. Why? Would really appreciate a answer before I start my possible success/fail ;)
Oscar Ekelund Thanks for the feedback! Maybe the video is deceiving, but there are no cables plugged into AETR. The cable that you see in the video is plugged in horizontally and is for the NAZA V1 LED. It just looks like the AETR are plugged in, but they're not.
Great video Dennis, thank you! Well filmed, edited and concise! I've swapped out the Eagle Tree Vector in my QAV400 for the NAZA v2 because I want to use the Zenmuse H3-3D gopro gimbal, and your instructions were just what the doctor ordered. Something I still needed to figure out that may help others who are frustrated & scratching their heads: You need to install the driver from DJI on your computer in order for the NAZA assistant software to work. An aside: I've found the button configuration on the Taranis baffling, and amazed at how well you move through the menus. Is there some logic to this?
Dave Tonnes Good point on the DJI driver. That's something that is easily overlooked and can be a considerable source of frustration! The menu navigation is something that I've had plenty of practice with. You'll be an expert in no time :)
Most helpful! Tho, as you had the aileron stick cal issue, (@3:30), I'm having that same issue. Only, I continue to have this issue, even when I've powered down all the systems....grrr! I'm running an X8R in SBus to my Naza Light with GPS and my Tx is my Taranis. I'm thinking it has to do with the offset value and I've tried a few adjustments. Any insight would be much appreciated.
Les Schilling It's such a frustrating thing. I'm not sure what's going on in your case but couple of reboots of your RX as well as your flight rig. I've been able to get around it being stuck this way. It's not ideal, but not sure what else to do. If you think it's an offset issue like at your stick monitor on the Taranis and see if you notice it not centered. Good luck.
That's an awesome video, very nice clear and concise. I'm doing the same install on a TBS disco pro which has the switch that goes between the gopro and the video camera. Is there a way to pull a channel off of the RX when using in sbus configuration? If so how? Or do I just need to hook up all the cables? Also these frsky rx say the rssi out is analog 0-3.3v. Any way to hook that up to a an EZosd that you know of?
adriancjones In this video you can see how to use SBUS and get the 8 standard channels: FrSky Taranis and Tarot T-2D Gimbal Tilt Setup and Configuration I'm not sure about EZosd. I've never used that one. Good luck!
Should be getting my Taranis with X8R this week,,what setup do you recommend or prefer? SBUS or the classic way? btw ; Thanks for your video"s, they make me drool, can't wait to start playing around with the FrSky goodies !:-))
Glad to hear it. You're going to love it. I really enjoy the S-BUS setup. It's definitely the way to go if you have the option. Thanks for watching my vids. It's much appreciated.
Hi, great video, very helpful. Bit of a newbie question. I want to use sbus with my naza and my Taranis. Do I need a Futaba module plugged in the back of the Taranis to use the sbus function of the X8R or are you using the built in module in your video?
Great video, Dennis! A question: I have my aileron/elevator/throttle/yaw control working with SBUS as in your setup. How do I now set up channels 5 through 8 in PWM mode with the X8R? Thanks
Bill Fitz Hopefully this will help: FrSky Taranis and Tarot T-2D Gimbal Tilt Setup and Configuration you'll have to use channels 9-16 though since 1-8 are going to be reserved for SBUS. As I state in the video make sure you configure your RX for mode 4.
Can you explain to me which position is which on the x8r? I have been trying to find a diagram online but there is not one. Is output 1 throttle....etc? Also what outputs correspond to what switches on the taranis? Thanks
Jordan Mowbray If you setup a default model and go to screen 11 you'll see the channels. By default it's Throttle (CH1), Aileron (CH2), Elevator (CH3), Rudder (CH4). Regarding outputs and switches it's highly configurable. If you watch this video you'll see that it's easy to associate any switch with any channel on the Taranis: FrSky Taranis 3 Flight Modes and Forced Failsafe Override with DJI NAZA on QAV400 Quadcopter
There are a couple of things missing here, the setting of flight modes and IOC... Any plan on covering those Dennis? other than those it is a good video :)
Dennis Baldwin Thats great news :) I have got the flight mode switch settings but I can't get it to see the center position when I select ATTI. Using 2.0.1, I think that 2.0.2 is about to come, maybe there may be a fix... I'll keep trying...
Hi all newbe problem to solve, I have set up my F450 and have binded the X8R to Tx X9R sticks all work in Naza software using sBus but motors won't power up any idea what I'm not doing or have done.
Just FYI I just installed the Driver 1.1 and the system does recognizes DJI Virtual COM Port 6. Using DJI NAZAM Lite Assistant opening screen just hangs. Looks like everything is good but nothing. I did put a servo on the rx just to see if the tx is ok. Servo movement fine....
See my other post and make sure you have the right Assistant. If that's not the case then perhaps it's a compatibility issue with Windows 10. It's been a while since I've run this but I was originally using Windows 7. Keep us posted.
Hi Dennis ,I have the wookong on Sbus with my tarannis ,and I can't get my compass to get into calibration mode .No blue light after switching from manual to GPS .I've tried six times ,seven times, eight ,nine ,and ten,and it won't come up .At this point I'm considering switching to pwm, and trying that way. This is my third naza ,first wookong and I can't get it to calibrate.any suggestions?I'm a long time subscriber thank you for any help.
Hi mate Thanks for your video great help I've done everything you have said and works a treat However how do you calibrate ESC's in Sbus ??? Have you done a video on this ? Could you give me some advice please ..
I'm not sure if it's possible without directly connecting to CH3 or whatever your throttle channel is and calibrating that way. Also, check your ESC manual as there are a lot of ESCs that ship pre-calibrated. Here is an example: www.getfpv.com/lumenier-mini-20a-esc-w-simonk-autoshot-5v-1a-bec-2-4s.html Just trying to save some unnecessary work. Good luck.
Dennis Baldwin Just one more question, Dennis. I'm curious as to which mode you placed the X8R into before binding. From the video it appears you have no jumpers placed. Are you therefore binding in Mode 1? Have you tried binding in Mode 4? Thanks!
Appalling68 I believe the default is Mode 5, which is what I'm using (no jumpers). See here: www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uploads/38702093X977203X22.pdf
I recently did this with the Turnigy 9X and my god, what a pain! And of course, the next day, I got an email notification about the Taranis being in stock... >.>
Well I'm glad you got it working with the T9X. I've heard that's definitely a challenge compared to the Taranis. As are a lot of things. OpenTX makes life much simpler :)
i actually already got it dennis ! i just used the same method you had on the other video of how to set up the three flight modes. real easy thanks to you.
Nelson inastrilla Could you please elaborate on your last comment? I've watched all of Dennis' videos and understand the S-Bus and channel setups, but am very unclear how to set-up IOC and flight modes. What channel to use?? Thanks!
hi ive binded taranis with x8 on naza assist on a hex but have no trottle down only up when i move down the motors do not slow down??? and fail safe will not let me take over by hitting gps switch it sounds like it just keeps climbing??? any help app
Is there anyway to add another control beyond channel 8? I noticed I am able to add my landing gear to a switch using channel 8, but I still need to control an aftermarket gimbal to tilt up and down (analog, not SBUS compatible). Is there a work-around for this? I am using Wookong M, very similar to NAZA setup. Thanks
Ahhh. I was about to ask you if you had ever had Naza do what mine did today. For a brief period during lock mode, the LED flashed like it was in course lock mode, even though my switch was OFF. Because what happened next, as I lifted off, and went to yaw the craft, it started flying like it WAS in course lock. I may have to check my endpoints in Assistant. Of course the other concern I had was as I did the yaw, the craft wanted to relocate itself along a flight path, even though I did the compass cal and 4 home lock routines. Do you think there is a position that the quad should NOT be held in during 2nd phase of compass calibration...ie...one side or the other down, or front or back down? Thanks Dennis.
John Robertson That's a great idea to check your endpoints in Assistant. IMO the band for the different modes is a bit too small. I like the range that APM and Pixhawk give you. For the second phase of compass calibration I don't think there's a position that shouldn't be used, but I always turn the quad sideways and nose down. Not sure if this helps and I'll report back if I run into any issues.
I am not able to get the manual mode in 3 flight modes. It switches from failsafe to attitude to failsafe. No manual mode and neither gps attitude mode. Whats the problem?
Appalling68 Hi. You can use the X1 and X2 channels to do remote gain tuning and controlling a gimbal pitch. This video just demonstrated how to connect those to your sliders and it's up to you to determine what you want to do with them. Hope this helps!
hey man, i used this and your other setup video for the taranis and naza i managed to get everything working accept the gps calibration. flicking from atti to gps to manual and back around 15 times doesn't start it, please help
Flash Media When you look at the NAZA assistant do you see the slider go to the proper flight modes when you flick your switch? You need to make sure the proper modes light up in the assistant. If that doesn't work perhaps you can post a photo of your assistant setup in the forums at www.garagepilots.com and we can help you out over there. Good luck.
Dennis, I think this is a great tutorial. I am still coming to grips after being into RC for over 2 decades with software. However I already had done this mod... I have one question for you which is have you come across any settings or power issues on either the Naza or the Taranis for throttle A E R.. etc. I have just done this to my Qu4d (2014 model) and now it wont take off properly, or stay up. I am at my witts end with the thing. So any help is fully appreciated bud. Its running a Naza V2... Thanks again.
jonrms So sorry to hear that. I've never experienced anything like that with my NAZA V2. Have you tried calibrated all your ESCs just to make sure you get everything synced? What do you sticks look like in the NAZA Assistant? Are they going from min to max in the Assistant when you move them? If you continue to have problems check out www.garagepilots.com and post in the forums there. We'll be happy to help you out.
I'm getting a Taranis X9D Plus radio and I want to program it to my Naza-M V2. Will this video setup work for the Naza M V2 or is it different? Really appreciate for any answer. Thank you in advance.
Nice tips. I have an X8R I need to set up for a TBS Discovery I recently bought second hand. Could I run the Sbus cable to the Naza and set it up and also have other cables coming from the receiver to go to my gimbal to control pitch of the camera or does everything have to go through that Sbus cable straight to the Naza?
Hi Dennis, I am in the process of building my first quad. I am using the FrSky X9D Plus, X8R Receiver, and the Naza M V2. Question its my understand whether I use SBUS or connect the standard servo cables the radio and receiver still needs to go through the binding process, is this correct? Most likely I will be using SBUS. I do have an issue with my radio and have filed for an RMA. On turning on the radio the radio shakes (Plus Radio) and the screen is blank blue. Then following a video online I held the trim tabs inward and turn the radio on and the radio booted into Trananis Bootloader - 2.0.9. Thinking the firmware needed to be written I pushed the enter button on the radio and got this message, Directory is missing. This is a brand new radio that arrive with a dead battery so I had to wait for the charger to arrive. Seems to be the OS is missing, but I really have no clue.
Keith T Yes you still need to go through the binding process for SBUS. You may find this video helpful if you ever need to get 8 standard channels in addition to your 8 sbus channels: th-cam.com/video/zXsvsYbW09E/w-d-xo.html Sorry to hear about your Taranis. While you're waiting for your charger to arrive read through this site about upgrading your firmware: www.open-tx.org/downloads.html Good luck!
excellent video, just one thing though, how would i go about adding gimbal tilt in this setup that is seperate from the naza itself, eg if i want to use sbus for the naza and then be able to connect gimbal to the receiver and map a channel in the tx for it, is this possible?
Hello friend! Great vídeo! I have a question for you... S Bus is fantastic! How I plug my câmera switch on the channel on RX? And... Please, show I how configure the tree mod... (GPS, Altitude, FailSafe)...
+Elvis Moraes I like sbus too :) This video should help you get a switch setup in addition to your sbus channels: th-cam.com/video/zXsvsYbW09E/w-d-xo.html Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Good Day! Like the Video on Taranis, however I just picked up a DJI Flame quad. It has a NAZA but do not know what version. It says 2012. What assistant do I use? I downloaded the NAZA Lite Version (BTW running Win10) the app does come up and I do get a green lite on the V-Sen module when plugged into the laptop. My Taranis is the Plus version and I am using the X8R RX set up like in your video. Radio is Bound as I get the green light on the rx. I do not get ANY movement on the AETR bars on the NAZA Lite Assisstant. Any Ideas?
I want to use the sbus on my frsky x8r as you demonstrate in this video. I currently have mine setup per your video on setting up flight modes and a failsafe switch. If I switch to the sbus do I set up flight modes and failsafe as before but use channel 7 rather than channel 5 ?
Exactly. Your channel 7 will be configured just the same as you would do with channel 5. Similar to this video: FrSky Taranis 3 Flight Modes and Forced Failsafe Override with DJI NAZA on QAV400 Quadcopter Good luck with your setup.
I am trying to set up the GPS ATTI and Manuel mode but the slider will not move back to the left at all with weight or offset on my Taranis radio and naza. I also taranis shows flashing fmo--------- in the mixer screen next to the ATTI mode. Can you please help me?
Hi Dennis can you help me out I followed your instructions on binding the x8r to the taranis D16 mode channels 1-8 but the taranis isn't responding I see in the mixer on your taranis the ail, ele, thr, rud has 012345678 beside each one mine don't could you enlighten me on what I'm doing wrong or what I'm not doing. Thanks Ed
I did this but when viewing channels in cleanflight, they all jump around sporadically. Any ideas? frsky taranis x9d, x8r, cc3d (white), cleanflight 1.1.0
Sorry to hear that. I haven't seen this behavior before so I'm not sure what is going on. Let me give it some thought and let us know if you figure anything out from your end.
i know there are a lot of variables but need help. I'm using a Taranis radio, Naza lite wt GPS and a D8R-II Plus like you just unplugged in this video . How much different of a setup is it to use what I have? I'm having a real hard time getting everything configured properly. I'm using sunny sky kv900 motors on a S500 frame if that matters? i followed your other video and successfully setup the GPS/Atti/Man modes on ch5 like you explained but I guess i'm missing much more on how to set it up for the specific quad i have or something.. the motors will spin in the correct direction but are not responding to the sticks correctly and spin without control. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Cole d/b/a Master Productions It's hard to say without having more info. Your setup sounds like it will work just fine and I'd recommend trying to get this working without the GPS initially. That will allow to fly in attitude mode and then you can work in the GPS later. Just a suggestion. Also, check out www.garagepilots.com and post in the forums. We've helped out a lot of guys trying to get their builds in the air. It sounds like you have the right gear, but just need to get it configured properly. Best of luck.
Hi Denis, a bit out of topic, sry. I cannot get a communication in the naza gui. I have a 9xtreme board in a Turnigy 9X. installed a XJT module ans a X8R in replacement of a DJT with V8FR-II. SET jumpers to CH1-2 and CH3-4, the 2 swit hes on XJT are off. I should be in mode 4. The bind is OK. Sbus connected to X2 (the only cnx to the naza board). Any idea what s wrong. Thx beforehand for your suggestions. Thierry BE
+Thierry Beau more info..... My big first forgotten setup, when using s-bus we need to choice DBUS as receiver type. now I have aert working properly. I do not have yet the 3 posns switch working, my IOC and the failsafe. Without a help, trial and error will be my approach. Do I need to connect other cable between the NAZA and X8R to get all working as before ? I thought the SBUS receive all info via the sbus, means to me ch5,6,7 and 8 thru which the info goes to the NAZA for IOC and FS. I hape to be able to use CH6 for the video gimbal. Last step will be to use a second RX (D8R or V8FR-II is workable). Any suggestion are more than welcomed. B rgds
+Thierry Beau SBUS should be sending all those channels across so you shouldn't need any other connections. I haven't done this before with a 9Xtreme board so I'm not sure what's going on. One thing I would check is in your sticks display on the TX see if when you flip your 3 pos switch what channel is moving on the display. Other than that I'm not sure what's going on. Let us know and hopefully we can get you in the air.
Is there a way to get the Taranis SBus to work with Naze32/Flip32 controllers? As far as I can tell it would need a signal inverter in order to recognize the signal but then there is only 1 serial port available and if you are using it for the GPS there's nothing for the receiver to use so it doesn't seem possible. Also, can you explain what you were doing with the Mixer? I had no idea what was going on there!
+Steve C I haven't done it but this may help: eleccelerator.com/frsky-x4rsb-sbus-anti-invert-hack/ The mixer in the video was used because with SBUS the NAZA expects a certain channel ordering. You have to adjust them to make it work properly (AETR as well as flight modes). It took me a while to figure this out originally. Good luck with your setup.
+Dennis Baldwin Never mind, my Flip32 died before I was able to use it anyway. Banggood is supposed to be sending a replacement but I'm not going to use the Taranis with it if it's not compatible. Actually the Taranis was just a waste of money since it has features that are impossible to use or even figure out what they do. How does anyone ever get anything to fly with so many companies selling crap that's not compatible and doesn't work?
Hi Dennis. Apologies in advance if i am cluttering up your comment box but i have another question for you. I have followed all your guides and i now have my x8r on s.bus 16 channel and my gimbal tilt working, my question is I want to setup remote gains using the pots with the naza with the taranis, could you explain how I can do this ?, I am using your pre made qv500 model setup file. Thanks
MMX2 I don't have a video showing this with the Taranis, but have this one demonstrating the process with a T9X: th-cam.com/video/feyiB87V0ag/w-d-xo.html You should be able to adapt this for the Taranis. If you still need help let me know and I'll put together a video demonstrating how to do it with the Taranis. Please send me a direct message just to make sure I get it. Thanks.
Will this basic channel setup work with airplane flight controller ? I have a flight controller that has a sbus connection and i want to be able to control the gain remote so I don't have to land and adjust the gain then go back in the air to see how its working. The manual to me isn't very clean on setting up or using the Sbus feature. I suppose the only way for me to fine out would be to play with and see what works
I'm not sure if you can adjust the gains in the air. I haven't tried that before. I normally just autotune a couple times and that gets me pretty dialed in. Let us know what you find out. I'd be interested in knowing this. Thank you.

Can this receiver and Taranis be used to control the 4 channels (AETR) in SBUS, 2 PWM channels (gimbal roll and tilt), 1 for flight mode selection and lastly 1 for camera switch (FPV or GoPro), like described in the TBS discovery pro manual? Your video seems to suggest there is only room for 3 extra channels besides AETR?
Patrik Åkerfeldt You can get all 16 channels when using SBUS although I haven't done it yet. I'll put together a video that explains how. Thanks for the comment.
10 ปีที่แล้ว
Looking forward to the video! Thanks for answering.
Patrik Åkerfeldt Looking at the X8R manual and also repeating what I read over at multirotorforums.com, you can get all 16 channels by binding in Mode 4. That is, S-Bus gives you CH1-8 and then CH9-16 would be the hard pins on the Rx. I hope Dennis Baldwin or someone will correct me if I'm wrong here.
Very simple, as stated above and it works because I am flying this way. Bind X8R in Mode 4 ( manual shows jumper location to achieve this during bind) this gives you 8 in sbus and the other 8 (9-16) as conventional PWM outputs from your pins 1-8 on your receiver. I use a X6R for my hex with NAZA V2 tied to SBUS and I use 4 of 6 remaining PWM channels to run light switches, retracts and camera switcher. Just remember to define them in your mixing editor page to make them work.
Hi Dennis really like your videos. Im having trouble calibrating with my taranis plus. Naza lite assistant keeps telling me to check my stick calibration which I have done and rebooted everything but wont let me move on with the setup. Is there something else Im missing. Im using sbus set up on the 8XR. Do I have to re bind after using sbus or what? Thanks John
rose marie Cammilleri Hi John. The only thing I've experienced like this is the Assistant failing to read my stick inputs after a calibration. After restarting the Assistant everything worked just fine. That's the only thing I can come up with. Good luck and keep us posted.
hi dennis ! i followed step by step your video on the naza m setup, stick calibration, ect everything went well but when it comes to the control mode swicth ,,the u channel on the naza the assistant for failsafe , gps , ect the u channel does not move i can`t toggle between modes for failsafe and gps , i connected a wire from sbus to x2 and program the 3 pos switch but nothing it dosent show on the asistant ,,,can you help me please thanks
Hi I had same problem as you, if you use S-Bus receiver, the communication of A, E, T, R, U, X1 and X2 channels are all through the D-Bus channel. I set up "Control Mode Switch" in my RX to channel 7 and "Intelligent Orientation Control" to channel 6 and it works.
Hi Dennis. You are a legend my friend. I got into quads a few months ago. I only have one arm so flying them has been quite a steep learning curve. Your videos have been a source of massive help which has made the process for me a whole lot easier! I look forward to opening youtube to find new videos that you have submitted.

Awesome, David. Glad to hear it helped and that you got it figured out. Happy flying!
Thanks Dennis! I was able to set up my Taranis using SBUS and had a much cleaner install on my Tarot FY680. Thanks for all of your videos.
wn0x Nice. Yeah I can't imagine how messy my hexa would look if I weren't using SBUS :) Thanks for the feedback.
WICKED, i have been slightly nervous about switching my dji 550 over to a taranis rx but you sir have made it look easy , thanks alot
+jack00scarecrow No problem at all. Glad to hear you upgraded. Thanks for the feedback.
Please don't ever stopp making these video Dennis
Ha....very kind of you. I appreciate the positive words. Will do my best :)
Thanks for doing this with such clarity and quality production values!!!! I will
have to look for some of your other videos. How refreshing it is to see such
a well produced instructional video.
Thanks so much for the positive words and I appreciate you following along. Take care.
Excellent video, brief and to the point. Just what I needed to get me started with frsky plus. Thanks.
+welshrocketman Glad to hear it helped out and thanks for sharing.
Great Help, Thank you! I was having an issue setting the failsafe until you made mention of Channel 5,6,7 on the X8R correpond to Port X1, X2, U. That did it for me!
Thank you very much. Without you and Painless360 all of my gear would be piled up in the corner of the garage with little hope of ever flying.
No problem. Thank you for the feedback.
Thanks for your videos Dennis! They have been such a help for me as a beginner multi rotor enthusiast. You're awesome!
You bet, Elias. Thanks for following along and the kind words.
Awesome videos man. Very helpful. As a complete noob to the hobby(as in never even soldered before) your videos have really got me going. GetFPV better be paying you a lot!!! Just spent a ton at their store. 100% due to your videos. Almost ready to start my build. Tarot 650 sport
timo2233 Thanks so much for the good words. I really appreciate that. Good luck with your build and I look forward to seeing it in the air!
OMG, I've been busting a nut trying to get the Sbus to work on both my NAZA and WOOKONG, Never thought to change the setup to AETR. Thanks!
Glad to hear it helped. Yeah that caught me good the first time I did this setup. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks Dennis for another great tutorial! I have a Taransis and I'm about to purchase a NAZA to put on my Disco clone. Have friends that run a NAZA FC but they had friends set them up and they go to them when they have problems. I want to know!!! Please keep them coming!!! Thanks
Very cool Ron. I think you'll enjoy NAZA. Best of luck with your disco build. It's really an awesome frame.
bruuuuhhh oh mu gob thank you i ditched my quad for 2 years this is all i needed
A tip : you can watch series at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.
@Tristen Brayan Yea, been watching on flixzone for since november myself =)
Thx, combined with your other video about the 3 mode set-up and failsafe I've got a pretty nice set-up. And got channel 5 set-up for IOC.
Hi Dennis, a big thanks from France !! Your video help me so mutch !
+Riko Bonito Glad to hear that! Thanks for the feedback and good luck with your setup.
Watching this in 2018, still it is informative. Thanks.
Haha no 2020
Once again a Fount of knowledge my friend. Thanks again for excellent and informative videos. The AETR thing might have bit me at one point on my next build since I am going S-Bus on it.
Matthew Elyash Thanks for the feedback and good luck with your next build. SBUS is nice and helps simplify the cable madness.
Thank you very much for helping me setting up my new Taranis!
+Accuracy Channel No problem. Thank you for the feedback.
Thanks! This answered my question about using open tx with Naza gear.
No problem, John. Glad to hear it helped.
Whew...dude, you made that look soooooooo easy.
Thanks Jimmy. Appreciate you watching and hope all is well.
If only life could be so easy like the Naza Software lol
Very nice job Dennis :) Very strange the little bug with the aileron stick o_O
Yeah. That bug threw me off track multiple times, but am glad it's a simple fix.....once you know about it of course :)
Hi Awsome Video WHAT about a Camera Pan & Tilt added ???
Nicely done video. Really clear procedure.
Great video, very clear and concise.
ben green Thank you for the feedback. I appreciate you watching.
Excellent video, Dennis.
What? Thanks so much. I appreciate your feedback.
Another awesome great video! Dennis Baldwin
Wonny RC Hobbies Thank you and I appreciate you watching.
Wow yours worked so well, mine too but not coming up on naza-m lite assistant software :(
Sorry to hear that. I've had all sorts of troubles with the DJI drivers in the past so make sure you Google around and see what you can dig up or maybe others here can help out. Good luck.
Thanks for another great video Dennis!
+Pat B My pleasure. Thank you for the feedback.
3:38 min - it happens to PPM as well on te Taranis. Seems like it's a Taranis bug. No big issue, just like you, powering down and up everything again resolves it for the Aileron halfway stick issue.
+etegration Right on. Thanks for sharing.
Great video, just what I was looking for. Thanks
No problem. Thanks for following along.
Such great info, worked like a charm!!!!!
Thanks again. Been watching your videos for a long time. Many useful tips.
Quick question: Since X8R is setup using CPPM, why did you select D-Bus and not PPM receiver type in Naza assistant?
Good question. Unfortunately I can't give you a technical answer than it didn't work with PPM in the Assistant and only D-Bus would work.
Hi! It was wery helpfull video!!! Can you make video how to get GAIN on Taranis in that setup?
+Александр Леонтьев I'll definitely look into it. Thanks for the question.
This video should help you out:
th-cam.com/video/zXsvsYbW09E/w-d-xo.html
Pay attention to the part of binding in a different mode than the default to get access to the extra channels.
I love you man ! I will try it now for my Hex
I keep on getting telemetry lost sound from the radio this is on S-bus any idea Dennis ?
zero00tolerance Is this while you're in the air or when it's close to you? I only ask because sometimes if I'm on the ground or in the garage and too close to my receiver it will give me that message. I've never had this happen otherwise.
Hi Dennis :-)) this is great video, I am on F450 in these days and your video is great and useful one. You helped me much. If you make an other video about 3 switch and IOC this will be great thank you very much.. Kemal
H. Kemal Suher Thanks for the feedback and suggestion. I'll see what I can do.
You'll be an expert in no time :)
great job bro! keep up those great videos coming .god bless.
+haussemann deter Thank you. I appreciate those good words.
das war meine Antwort... Thanks for that perfect video !!! Thanks from Berlin !!!
Tobias Dragon You're welcome. Thanks for watching and greeting from Austin, TX.
Any way to hook that up to a an EZosd that you know of?
adriancjones In this video you can see how to use SBUS and get the 8 standard channels:
FrSky Taranis and Tarot T-2D Gimbal Tilt Setup and Configuration
I'm not sure about EZosd.
Jim Tolan I'm using the built-in module that ships with the Taranis for sbus. Hope that helps.
Dennis Baldwin
Thanks Dennis. Nice one. :-)
Great video, Dennis!
A question:
I have my aileron/elevator/throttle/yaw control working with SBUS as in your setup.
As I state in the video make sure you configure your RX for mode 4.
friend, I using SBUS output, I can not connect a LED on channel 8 of the receiver is empty
If you watch this video you'll see that it's easy to associate any switch with any channel on the Taranis:
FrSky Taranis 3 Flight Modes and Forced Failsafe Override with DJI NAZA on QAV400 Quadcopter
There are a couple of things missing here, the setting of flight modes and IOC... Any plan on covering those Dennis? other than those it is a good video :)
Hey Bob, yes definitely. I have that video in the works and will be posting it within the next week. I appreciate the feedback. Take care.
Dennis Baldwin Thats great news :) I have got the flight mode switch settings but I can't get it to see the center position when I select ATTI. Using 2.0.1, I think that 2.0.2 is about to come, maybe there may be a fix... I'll keep trying...
Hi all newbe problem to solve, I have set up my F450 and have binded the X8R to Tx X9R sticks all work in Naza software using sBus but motors won't power up any idea what I'm not doing or have done.
moving ch7 to the ATTI, GPS, MANUAL points? add another switch for Failsafe ? did you cover this elsewhere? thanks
Vass Maybe this is what you're looking for? th-cam.com/video/mMKyjdujvCA/w-d-xo.html
Another great video!
Many thanks. Hope all is well!
Just FYI I just installed the Driver 1.1 and the system does recognizes DJI Virtual COM Port 6. Using DJI NAZAM Lite Assistant
opening screen just hangs.
Once again thank you for your help!
wood2be Not a problem at all.
Ciao Dennis, thx for your help video
If you have a channel taranis dedicated, pls let me know!
Hi mate
Thanks for your video great help
I've done everything you have said and works a treat
However how do you calibrate ESC's in Sbus ???
Have you done a video on this ?
Could you give me some advice please ..
I'm not sure if it's possible without directly connecting to CH3 or whatever your throttle channel is and calibrating that way. Also, check your ESC manual as there are a lot of ESCs that ship pre-calibrated. Here is an example:
www.getfpv.com/lumenier-mini-20a-esc-w-simonk-autoshot-5v-1a-bec-2-4s.html
Just trying to save some unnecessary work.
See here:
www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uploads/38702093X977203X22.pdf
Dennis Baldwin Thank you so much for clearing that up, Dennis. Sorry to be such a pest! ;-)
Any chance of doing a video for the whole first time install please. thanks for this one.
I'll see what I can do. I don't fly with NAZA much anymore so not sure if I'll get around to it.
+Dennis Baldwin I understand, thanks for the videos they have been really helpful.
Do you have any videos of how to set up the two 3 position switches for the flight modes and the other for IOC ? And a separate switch for failsafe ?
You read my mind. I'll plan on doing a video of that very soon. Thanks for the suggestion.
i actually already got it dennis ! i just used the same method you had on the other video of how to set up the three flight modes. real easy thanks to you.
Nelson inastrilla
Could you please elaborate on your last comment? I've watched all of Dennis' videos and understand the S-Bus and channel setups, but am very unclear how to set-up IOC and flight modes. What channel to use?? Thanks!
thank you for that . can you help and tell me how to set up a retractable landing gear with the sbur on X8R with naza m v2
hi ive binded taranis with x8 on naza assist on a hex but have no trottle down only up when i move down the motors do not slow down??? and fail safe will not let me take over by hitting gps switch it sounds like it just keeps climbing??? any help app
TheTonstar1 Check out www.garagepilots.com and post in the forums over there. Hopefully we can get you going.
HI, thanks for your very usfull video!quick question, do you use any inverter cable?
+Ugo Vitale No problem. I don't use an inverter cable. Just a standard servo cable from the X8R to the NAZA for SBUS.
I am not able to get the manual mode in 3 flight modes. It switches from failsafe to attitude to failsafe. No manual mode and neither gps attitude mode. Whats the problem?
hi dennis, did you know that even your D8R-II Plus can do PPM if you flash is with frsky update tool? nice video as always any way
+R. WIZA No. I had no idea, but thanks for sharing that tip. This will likely come in handy in the future for me.
Hello Dennis Baldwin, just a noob question. What are you using the X1 and X2 sliders you set up in "Sticks Monitor" for (starts at 4:05)?
Thank you in advance.
hi, why on GPS mode.. he wrote down as FS mode? i saw in this video yours are same too..
Hi I have a Turnigy with Frsky transmitter do you know please how can I setup receiver L9R w naza thank you I hope you can help me . Thank you
What if my TX only has 6 channels? Can I hack around to make U (3-way switch) to work ?
Hi I can't figure out how to switch the flight modes I have the same setup besides my l9r frsky receiver
They won't toggle HELP PLEASE
nice one Dennis
Appreciate it. Hope you're doing well.
Take a look at this and maybe it will help: th-cam.com/video/zXsvsYbW09E/w-d-xo.html Good luck.
You may find this video helpful if you ever need to get 8 standard channels in addition to your 8 sbus channels:
th-cam.com/video/zXsvsYbW09E/w-d-xo.html
Sorry to hear about your Taranis. While you're waiting for your charger to arrive read through this site about upgrading your firmware:
www.open-tx.org/downloads.html
Good luck!
excellent video, just one thing though, how would i go about adding gimbal tilt in this setup that is seperate from the naza itself, eg if i want to use sbus for the naza and then be able to connect gimbal to the receiver and map a channel in the tx for it, is this possible?
MMX2 Maybe this will help? th-cam.com/video/zXsvsYbW09E/w-d-xo.html
thanks a million
Any Ideas?
This may help you figure it out:
www.dji.com/newsroom/news/whats-difference-of-naza-m-litenaza-m-v1naza-m-v2
Let us know if you get up and running.
Dennis Baldwin
Does this work with the SBUS as well?
Most definitely!
I am trying to set up the GPS ATTI and Manuel mode but the slider will not move back to the left at all with weight or offset on my Taranis radio and naza. I also taranis shows flashing fmo--------- in the mixer screen next to the ATTI mode. Can you please help me?
pwr24 Make sure you have the proper channel on your RX going to the U port on your NAZA. If you're using SBUS then this will be CH7.
Dennis Baldwin Thanks Dennis! I did get it to work! I really appreciate the response and the link! Take care
Cole d/b/a Master Productions I think I am doing the exact same build how did you do the retracts?
Hello, Dennis, what model name of this frame is? It really looks cool
+domasback It's the QAV400 and is a pretty awesome frame. Here it is: amzn.to/1OVShvE
awesome video
Glad to hear it helped.
+Steve C I haven't done it but this may help:

The mixer in the video was used because with SBUS the NAZA expects a certain channel ordering.
Thanks
MMX2 I don't have a video showing this with the Taranis, but have this one demonstrating the process with a T9X:
th-cam.com/video/feyiB87V0ag/w-d-xo.html
You should be able to adapt this for the Taranis. If you still need help let me know and I'll put together a video demonstrating how to do it with the Taranis. Please send me a direct message just to make sure I get it. Thanks.
Dennis Baldwin
thanks very much dennis, all sorted :)
Very quick explanation, very difficult to understand as a beginner.
Dennis Baldwin
thanks for your reply Dennis tried restarting assistant several times still no luck. maybe I should try not using s-bus set up.
hi dennis ! i followed step by step your video on the naza m setup, stick calibration, ect everything went well but when it comes to the control mode swicth ,,the u channel on the naza the assistant for failsafe , gps , ect the u channel does not move i can`t toggle between modes for failsafe and gps , i connected a wire from sbus to x2 and program the 3 pos switch but nothing it dosent show on the asistant ,,,can you help me please thanks
