I seen the first few minutes of your video and thought I had it figured out. Never would of guessed to copy and paste for each toggle position. Thanks so much. This is definitely the best video yet.
Thank you so much for this turtorial! I recently flashed my Turnigy 9x with open tx and had to figure out how to Programm it in order to set the 3 modes (GPS, ATTI and MANUAL) to the 3 position switch. The hardest thing was to figure out how all the switches are named in the software. With the Taranis you just have to actually flip a switch to let the software know which one you are about to Programm. With the Turnigy 9x it’s a little different as it doesn’t act like the Taranis wich automatically recognizes the switch you want to Programm. For everyone here with a flashed Turnigy 9x to Open TX or even ER9X: The 3 Position switch is called 3POS The switch in up position is called ID0 In the middle position it’s called ID1 In the down position it’s called ID2 The switch for Failsave as shown here in the video is called THR The offsets for each switch were exactly the same for me as shown here in the video. Again big thumbs up for this video, it helped me a lot!
Dude just wanted to thank you for posting this video. I was ready to throw in the towel on these mode functions on my 450 Naza Lite and then I came across your channel. Huge help & huge thanks!!! I am up and running flawless!!!
Hey, Dennis, You saved me, thank you so much. One note about the mix for channel 7. You can achieve the same result by having 4 'siblings' mixs, one for each of the four {gps-atti ,att, manual, failsafe} modes, all of them in mode 'replace' (that is to have :=, instead of +=). I believe this way is more clear than having two levels, one with +=, and the second with :=, as in the video. Once again, thank you so much for your great help
Dennis, thank you so much. Out of all the videos I've viewed on TH-cam, I find yours to be the easiest to understand, and has helped me greatly, with my new Taranis X9D Plus.
You are honestly amazing. Been stumped for over a week now sitting with my finger up butt and a hand on the keyboard trying to figure this out, thank you
Just got my Taranis in my hand, and this got me through the setting of the basic switches a treat for my Naza quad. Thank you so much for posting... I'll probably be back for more...:) What a great Tx, looks like that's another donation to the lads ('n' lasses, no doubt) at open Tx...
Hi Dennis, gave up on Devo 10 and bought a Taranis and I'll be watching your video's on setting up Taranis. I'm glad there is someone like you putting out these great vids'. Give yourself a pat on the back!!!! Ken
Ken, so glad to hear that! You'll love the Taranis and if you have any questions let me know. You can feel free to post them in the forums at www.garagepilots.com. Best of luck.
Hey Dennis, you are my hero.. I fiddled about the additional failsafe-mode in the Taranis and the Naza for ages.. and you've got the solution.. many thx, Dennis..
Very nice video. I was completely lost on what to do and you made it very simple to understand. The more I learn about the Taranis the happier I am I am I purchased it as my first radio.
DJI naza m lite (orig FW) wiped and resetting up. My friend and I bought the RTF flames and I lost mine in 2014, so this year my friend gave me his F450 and Taranis X9D plus. He just went full DJI and im doing a full reset up of everything. Updated the TX to openxt 2.3.15 and updated the boot loader as well. Reflashed the X8R to current and the TX. His set up was bad, the FC was on velcro and the GPS wasnt set up right to the location on the frame. So Im taking my time and reading alot on the forums and watching TH-cam to get back in the loop, funny thing is I just watch your video that you linked you modle bin file and I thought...let me try. Im not sure that I had an acount from 2014 or what. you might have been the person that I watched when i set up my orig F450 back in 2014. Anyway, dude i just wanted to say thank you and im gonna test failsafe tonigh, with out proprs inside and see if I turn off the TX that the Naza M lite software shows failsafe. Would you are anyone that reads this know if the naza m lite can still be upgraded to 4.02 firmware like upgrade-naza.com project or it this as far as this equipment will go. again thanks for sharing your knowledge
This "How To" was freakin BRILLIANT! Thank you so much for this. I've been leaning towards buying a Taranis but have been fretting about how I would set up the channels. You sir, are a crack! Thank you again.
Dennis Baldwin LOL! I just placed my order two nights ago with HK. Bought that plus the FrSky X8R. Now I just need to find the time to build my F450. But between the kids, my business, and the "nagging wife" (just kidding, dear) it's a challenge!
Awesome video Dennis - thank you very much for taking the time on this. Just got my Taranis Plus today and setting up my flight modes was the last piece of the puzzle. This video explained exactly what I needed to do. FYI - I have the Naza V2 and I'm using SBUS, and this procedure worked perfectly.
Did you notice that the first pot the left one has a center detente? Thats just one cool thing Ive discovered about this radio. Thanks for another great video Dennis!
Man you are a legend. been getting so wound up trying to set you my DJI disco pro for 3 days now on this mix and your vid has simplified it in 5 min cheers bud :)
Wow, after all these years this video is still so helpful. Thank you Dennis! I used your method to get 5 modes on SG/SD, plus RTL on the SF switch, woot! I really didn't like the switch combo way people have been using (where SD is basically like a shift to the SG switch). These work perfectly and the SF switch over-rides them all to put the AP into RTL. So great!!
Godspeed Seven Thank you. Glad to hear that. I switch from Spektrum to a Turnigy 9X a couple years ago and glad I did. I'm even happier to have made the switch to the Taranis.
Excellent Video! Thank you Dennis. This is so many of the hurdles using FrSky with NAZA and you made it look easy. Keep up the great work. I have been in search of this for a long time.
Dennis, thanks for doing this. It finally sunk in about the multiple mixes on the same channel. It took awhile for the light to come on, but thanks you to, I think I understand. I was using PPM, so it was channel 7 controlling the modes instead of 5 for me which further complicated things on my end.
Nice tip and very clear. I was going to just use one switch to have GPS (Default) Atti and Failsafe but now I know I can have two switches set up with failsafe on an independent switch and GPS, Atti and Manual all working too, I'm going to go ahead and set this up. Thanks!
This is nice, figured mine out, but I configured it using the curves in the mixes. Same result even with the failsafe switch, but different avenue to get there, perhaps I will post a video and show you what I did.. Great video as always! You rock!
Thanks a lot for your videos esecially this one.....I managed to set up my DJI f450 easily in my Taranis but then got hung up because I could only arm the motors on ATTI mode!!! Then I watched this clip and at around 5.12 realised what I had wrong and that I had to split the flight mode channel into three mixes to get the sliders in the correct pos when that switch is flicked....thanks again you're a great help to the rc community keep it up :)
Dennis Baldwin You're welcome...I do have a question though!!! If I switch off the taranis to activate failsafe the slider doesn't go exactly under one of the failsafe tabs!!! Is there a way to adjust this so when quad loses signal the failsafe is activated correctly or is there no adjustment to be made??
just a thought. you can add a bipping sound `warning` when you active your fail-safe... or you can personalize it to say fail-safe also! Love this radio! Fly safe! Ed
Ed, yes that's a great suggestion. I plan on doing a video of this setup soon. I love the idea of having an audible voice when toggling failsafe or into different flight modes. Much better than looking down at your TX or memorizing switch positions :)
I just got my Taranis X9D couple of day ago I found your video youtube and I'd set up a failsafe override on the same channel of yours that's pretty much helped it's working on my DJI F550 Naza M V2 Amazing. Thanks..
YAHOO!!!! Got my motors turnin' thanks to your brilliant vids'. Itz a pain in the ass sometimes and then it all fits into place. Just set-up GPS, Atti & manual, etc as per your video, also IOC set-up, but that's new to me. The Taranis is such a good transmitter and so "tuneable" Will upload vid if all goes well, got to better than a Walkera QR P350.... Cheers Dennis regards Ken, gonna fit new bottom bracket mtb now, another passion at 62!!!
Dennis, I came back to this guide as I was able to get my original Naza set up easily following your tutorial. So now I am on SBUS and although it is right in front of my I am sure, I am a little confused as to how to get the 3 modes to work correctly. This video assumes you have the cable running in your 5th channel, but now there is only one cable running to the SBUS. Please....
Good video I know this is an old video when you mix this channel, I don't think DJI supports channel mixing, that causes a fly away. All I want to know when the transmitter is cut off will the failsafe appear in the flight mode and when the transmitter is powered back on will it bind to the receiver and failsafe disappear and go back to GPS.
Always more than one way to solve a problem, right! Glad to hear you did this with offset values and I'll experiment with that in the future. Hope all is well.
Hi Dennis thanks for your reply, I've fixed the problem somehow I was deleting my vocal warnings & vocal settings when I was playing around in custom functions,I plugged my taranis into companion 9x , the first question it asked me was whether I wanted to restore my vocal warnings & settings, one click & it was fixed. Ps your video on gimbal adjustment with curves is fantastic , I finally got my cheap gimbal to work properly , I found that if I also adjusted the weight setting lower that it operated much smoother Thanks again Regards Mike
Thanks for sharing that info. It's always good to have this information available. Regarding the gimbal video, thanks for the feedback. I'm glad to hear you're gimbal is woking smoothly. Good stuff.
I haven't used SBUS yet but have heard such great things about it. I always feel like my builds are cluttered with too many cables. Would be nice to give SBUS a try in the future. Are there any other big advantages that you've found with SBUS?
Dennis Baldwin I used the SBUS to control the Naza and can still use ports 6 & 7 to control my Tarot gimble. Really gives a clean install. I'm not too happy with the X8R PCB antennas as I have lost signal a few times at quit short range, so looking for a way to replace them with standard antennas..
It's amazing! It's something i'm dreamt to do with my futaba radio, it's so easy with the taranis! It's brilliant, what a such fantastic transmitter radio! Great job Dennis :D
Excellent vid, very clear to follow and did exactly what I wanted - thank you Now i'm going to see if you have done one for adding sounds to the switches.
mailblitzer Thanks for the feedback. I haven't done a video on adding sound to the switches but I think that's a great idea. I need to do that soon. Take care.
Hi Dennis! Thanks for an excellent good video how to do. ... I just received my Taranis and D8RII-Plus receiver, but I do not know how to do for it to go into failsafe mode when you turn off the radio or when radio signal disappears. the radio on page 2 under Reciver Bind is no failsafe! Have I tied the wrong way or is setting somewhere in the radio? Best Regards Johnny.
Dennis Baldwin, turns out my x8r receiver was junk... so it'll have to wait. I still have to figure out how to set it up for my dji f450. Like the complete setup haha
Hi Dennis, I'm back again. Just got my Taranis and I don't know if I have a duff one or not!!! It could be me that cannot read!! I have no "basic" instructions and have looked on the net but cannot find anywhere for a factory reset. I cannot see on mine, model selection, ie, heli, acro or glider. On my Turnigy I set it up as a heli and no problems. Can you tell me the best way to set up this damned radio for a quad running Naza V2. I have trawled your wealth of video's, but I'm either too tired after being at work since 6:30 this morning or I should give up and start knitting!!! Your help as always gratefully received!!! Regards Ken
Ken, it takes a little time to get your head around it but since the Taranis doesn't ship with any templates like ACRO or HELI you need to setup the channels yourself. You'll generally want to setup channels 1,2,3,4 to match A,E,T,R on your NAZA. If you need more assistance please post in the forums at www.garagepilots.com and we can help you out over there. Good luck!
Informative videos Thanks . Is there any video you posted that describes step by step how to set Tarans Q7 with DJI Naza mv2 system ? Any help appreciated. Subscribed and thump up 👍🏻
Hello i am new with the drones and have the naza lite lawsuit and issuer taranis + Seeing some of sour videoes and formed the taranis as your way gps, atti, manually and failsafe. But i have a doubt about forming go-home and landing? Since it is done? With the failsafe does he become directly the go-home and landing? I sit if my englishman is not very good, am spanish and am using a translator for whom my englishman is not very good..... thank you very much and with his videoes it is learned very much
thanks a lot for your explanations!!!! perfect I would like to know how to put voice for the different position on the switch (GPS-ATTITUDE-MANUAL-FAILSAFE) Thanks in advance
Question for you. Have you adjusted your throttle spring on the Taranis to center @ 50%? I am looking for a video of someone opening up the Taranis and adjusting it to center on the throttle.
Would it be possible to do a video for the rest of the settings for the Taranis for "Home Lock/Course Lock/Off" and how to setup failsafe for the receiver. Thanking you in advance :-) PS I love my Taranis :-)
One more question Dennis, but it's OT to this video. What type of battery are you using in the transmitter (assuming you swapped out the NiMH that came with it)? I've seen a video from RC Model Reviews where he's using a LiFe, but I'm confused on the connector between that battery and the Taranis. Any thoughts?
Mike, I noticed that when the assistant goes into failsafe the throttle stays where it is, should the throttle not go to at least 50% from wherever it might be when you go into failsafe? Thanks I have set the rx failsafe so that if I switch the tx off the throttle goes to 50%, is this not necessary with the Naza?
+dennis baldwin Great Video. But I have one quick question. This is showing the old Traditional Way of connecting. If I have "S-Bus" setup and I have CH7 assigned to the SE (3 position) Switch. How do you 'trim' each position differently to get into the right zones (GPS, ATTI, MANUAL)? The offset feature doesn't seem to work when you have S-Bus setup as Offset changes ALL 3 positions.
Dennis, your videos are superb. Whenever I have problem you seem to have covered it. Taranis has been a blackhole for me but no longer. Thank you.
JCFlippen You bet! Thanks for the good words and glad to know the videos are helping. Take care.
I seen the first few minutes of your video and thought I had it figured out. Never would of guessed to copy and paste for each toggle position. Thanks so much. This is definitely the best video yet.

Glad you got it working and thanks for sharing that bit of information. Very useful and will help myself as well as others. Take care.
8 freaking years ago... 😬
And now I'm going to do this with my X9D Plus SE and a ELRS receiver! 😂
Thanks a bunch, dude!!!
Dennis, thank you so much. Out of all the videos I've viewed on TH-cam, I find yours to be the easiest to understand, and has helped me greatly, with my new Taranis X9D Plus.

Thanks for the good words, Finn. Glad this helped. It's a lot of tinkering to find out what works. Take care.
Great video. You should be the Taranis spokes person. Clean concise explanations. Awesome job. Ive learned more from you than anyone.
adriancjones Thanks for the kind words. I really appreciate that. Just sharing all that I'm learning about this amazing radio. Take care.
2019, still extremely useful tutorial, at least for me 😀
YOU my friend are the one who got me in the air with my Turnigy9x, and now your excellent "how to" will get me in the air with my Taranis. Thank You!!
Are you serious? This has to be the best naration on you tube. Keep up the excellent work!
Neal Kleinman Thanks so much for the feedback. Am glad this helped!
I wanted to say thank you for your help getting my F450 in the sky with the Naza and Taranis. You are a real great resource for the community.
+Mark Smith Thanks for the good words and glad to hear you're airborne!
Just got my Taranis in my hand, and this got me through the setting of the basic switches a treat for my Naza quad. Thank you so much for posting... I'll probably be back for more...:)

You made something that would have taken weeks really straight forward, thank you so much for this mix setup and the S/D bus setup video!
***** Thanks so much for the incredibly kind words and glad this helped.
Thank you so much!!!! I NEVER would have figured that out on my own!
Got my Taranis today. This video really helped me out. It's a much easier way to do it than another method I found on the internet.
Glad to hear you got the Taranis and hope you enjoy it. It's one of the best TX's for the money. Thanks for the feedback!
And you can add a beep to the mode also! so it warn you that you activate it!
Fly safe!
Ed
2021 and still a great tutorial. Thank you :)

you are very talented in giving information.

Nice, Eric! I've messed with the curves a bit, but not to set my flight modes. Very good to know this is possible. Thanks for sharing.

Great video Dennis, very clear and easy to understand. I like my DX6i but I'm a bit short on control and this radio looks perfect. Thanks!

+Dave Laye That's great to hear! Thanks for sharing and happy flying.
Excellent Video, I changed weight values and left the offset values alone!
Always more than one way to solve a problem, right! Glad to hear you did this with offset values and I'll experiment with that in the future. Hope all is well.
Awesome video. I'm getting familiar with the Taranis and this really helped with my Naza V2 GPS flight mode configuration.
Very glad to hear that. Thanks for sharing.
Ps your video on gimbal adjustment with curves is fantastic , I finally got my cheap gimbal to work properly , I found that if I also adjusted the weight setting lower that it operated much smoother
Thanks again Regards Mike
Thanks for sharing that info. It's always good to have this information available. Regarding the gimbal video, thanks for the feedback. I'm glad to hear you're gimbal is woking smoothly. Good stuff.
Your videos are fantastic. So easy to follow and incredibly informative. Keep up the great work!!
SwampfrogTube Thanks so much. I appreciate the feedback. Take care.
Big thanks ! Never fly ... 2 month build and its alive thanks you!!!!!
+Riko Bonito So glad to hear that! Hope your flying is going well.
Nice video Dennis.. Got to love the Taranis.
I use the X8R reciever on my X650 quad with Naza V2. Using the SBUS port makes for a much nicer install.
I haven't used SBUS yet but have heard such great things about it. I always feel like my builds are cluttered with too many cables. Would be nice to give SBUS a try in the future. Are there any other big advantages that you've found with SBUS?
Dennis Baldwin
I used the SBUS to control the Naza and can still use ports 6 & 7 to control my Tarot gimble.
Are you able to do it with the Futaba? The thing I love about the Futaba radios is their design. They look amazing :)
Dennis Baldwin Yes i can, it's not so hard in fact but opentx made it very easy, i'm so impressed! I like futaba radios but they are so expensive >.
Wow!!! I can't say thank you enough. This was one of the best how to videos. You are a great help to this hobby community. Mahalo :)
Thanks for the feedback. Glad it helped.
Excellent vid, very clear to follow and did exactly what I wanted - thank you
Now i'm going to see if you have done one for adding sounds to the switches.
mailblitzer Thanks for the feedback. I haven't done a video on adding sound to the switches but I think that's a great idea. I need to do that soon. Take care.
Thank you for the video. Clear and precise instructions that work perfect for me.
Please make more Taranis videos.
Thank you for the feedback and I'll definitely make more Taranis videos in the future. Anything in particular that you'd like to see?
I'll be getting my taranis in a few days, amazing video! Thanks for the help!
JakeWardell 19 No problem at all. Hope you enjoy all that it has to offer.
Dennis Baldwin, turns out my x8r receiver was junk... so it'll have to wait. I still have to figure out how to set it up for my dji f450. Like the complete setup haha
Muito obrigado. Através desse vídeo consegui configurar o qx7 pra naza. Ganhou mais um inscrito do Brasil. Valeu 👍
Awesome explanation thanks Dennis. You saved me a LOT of time and headache!!!
wrcfan21 Not a problem. Thanks for watching.
hi pal did you do a video showing how to do home lock course lock as ive just bought the taranis and set up failsafe
Again, exactly what I was looking for! Thanks Dennis!
Awesome. Glad to hear that it helped. No problem at all.
Very well explained...thanks! Can you also have RTH triggered in Fail Safe at the same time and if so, how?
I'm not so sure about that. Will need to investigate. Great question btw!
Regards
Ken
Ken, it takes a little time to get your head around it but since the Taranis doesn't ship with any templates like ACRO or HELI you need to setup the channels yourself. You'll generally want to setup channels 1,2,3,4 to match A,E,T,R on your NAZA. If you need more assistance please post in the forums at www.garagepilots.com and we can help you out over there. Good luck!
Informative videos Thanks . Is there any video you posted that describes step by step how to set Tarans Q7 with DJI Naza mv2 system ? Any help appreciated. Subscribed and thump up 👍🏻
Thanks a bunch for posting and being concise.
Hello i am new with the drones and have the naza lite lawsuit and issuer taranis +
Seeing some of sour videoes and formed the taranis as your way gps, atti, manually and failsafe. But i have a doubt about forming go-home and landing? Since it is done? With the failsafe does he become directly the go-home and landing? I sit if my englishman is not very good, am spanish and am using a translator for whom my englishman is not very good..... thank you very much and with his videoes it is learned very much
What a great video! Just used it again and once more it saved me hours of frustration. Thanks!
Bill Fitz No problem at all. Thanks for the feedback and for watching.

Thanks in advance

Taranis ! thanks so much for this Dennis
You got it. I hope you're doing well.
Dennis Baldwin Hi Dennis can you teach us about Expos and Curves, thanks for this man.
Very helpful, thank you. Waiting for my Naza V2 to arrive and ill be using this to set up my Taranis :)
Great to hear. I think you'll really enjoy the combination of the two.
Thanks for all the help over the past year. I was wondering if you 3d print the speaker holder to upgrade the taranis? HB from Bay City Texas.
Howard Bardwell I hadn't seen that speaker upgrade until you mentioned it. Very cool. I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the suggestion.
With this info, you cant go wrong!
Thanks for the making of.
Not a problem. Hope all is well with you.
Save me a lot of headscratching! Thank you for posting!
No problem, Nick. Thanks for watching.
Question for you. Have you adjusted your throttle spring on the Taranis to center @ 50%? I am looking for a video of someone opening up the Taranis and adjusting it to center on the throttle.
Great video. Is this the same procedure when connected through sbus with the X8R?
erik Schiferli Yes. Pretty much so. Hopefully this will help:
th-cam.com/video/kl5wuMiZ1_w/w-d-xo.html
You make it easy to understand, thank you
Would it be possible to do a video for the rest of the settings for the Taranis for "Home Lock/Course Lock/Off" and how to setup failsafe for the receiver.
Just got the Taranis+, great help...Thanks
Boy, you are true to your word.
Thanks.Dennis for sharing.
No problem, Dwight. Thanks for watching.
Hi Dennis, great videos... for the SBUS setup with the X8R, do you have to use channel 7 or 5? Thanks!
Mike, I noticed that when the assistant goes into failsafe the throttle stays where it is, should the throttle not go to at least 50% from wherever it might be when you go into failsafe? Thanks
I have set the rx failsafe so that if I switch the tx off the throttle goes to 50%, is this not necessary with the Naza?
+dennis baldwin Great Video. But I have one quick question. This is showing the old Traditional Way of connecting. If I have "S-Bus" setup and I have CH7 assigned to the SE (3 position) Switch. How do you 'trim' each position differently to get into the right zones (GPS, ATTI, MANUAL)? The offset feature doesn't seem to work when you have S-Bus setup as Offset changes ALL 3 positions.
+Julio Rios Maybe this will help? th-cam.com/video/kl5wuMiZ1_w/w-d-xo.html
thanks again i just got another taranis i always go to your video for reference thanks!
Not a problem. Thanks for watching.
