    That one man could write songs as diverse as "Lady Is a Tramp" to "If I Loved You'" to "Edelweiss"et al, and sustain this level of genius over several decades is simply miraculous. The depth, breadth, and longevity of Rodgers' gifts to popular music is unequaled. The great Carole King said that she was influenced as a composer by Rodgers and Hart and Rodgers and Hammerstein. Lennon and McCartney aspired to be the modern day Rodgers and Hammerstein. And in 2021, Forbes magazine valued the Rodgers and Hammerstein songbook as the third most valuable of all-time right behind Lennon and McCartney and Michael Jackson's canon of songs. Talk about staying power!

    I'm a huge Richard Rodgers fan. He is still being admired and enjoyed the world over, every time one of his songs or musicals is performed, every time a jazz musician plays their version of a Rodger's tune. I play a number of his tunes and get such joy doing so, even if I'm just a dedicated amateur pianist who plays by ear and then improvises on the tune. Tony Bennett is in great form here. Rodgers found great lyricists in Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein.

    The three singers were rushed by time constraints, but focus on the galaxy of astounding songs from one man. These three performers nailed it. Rodgers is second to Berlin on the creation of timeless popular music. What a gift to all of us.

      Henderson played Laurie in. the 1953 Broadway revival with Raid Bond Barbara Cook and other artists not with John Raitt.They only made a Studio recording in the sixties with Philis Newman as Annie because Barbara Cook recorded Show Boat with Raitt and The King and I with Theodore Bikel at the same time.Shirley Jones played Maria later and was Rodgers favourite as Maria in the film before Julie Andrews was cast.Only Henderson played Maria in.touring performances when Mary Martin was Maria on Broadway.

    Richard Charles Rodgers (June 28, 1902 - December 30, 1979) was an American composer who worked primarily in musical theater. With 43 Broadway musicals and over 900 songs to his credit, Rodgers was one of the most well-known American composers of the 20th century, and his compositions had a significant influence on popular music. Rodgers died in 1979, aged 77, after surviving cancer of the jaw, a heart attack, and a laryngectomy.

    The rowdy arrangement given to the gorgeous _If I Loved You_ (for John Raitt) was utterly at odds with the tender lyric. How could any arranger growing up in the era of 50's musicals and in the shadow of Richar Rodgers think such a bombastic approach appropriate? Not to mention that 60yo John was getting a bit long in the tooth to slug it out that way with a big band. Less would have been more.

      @bblegacy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's SERIOUS money to be made in television, regardless of how flimsy any plot or stupid any concept is. With negotiated residual payments from syndication she probably made more money from doing about 5 years of 30 (actually 21) minute episodes of the Brady Bunch than she made during the rest of her career on Broadway and whatever else she did in Hollywood. Even Angela Lansbury said the same thing about "Murder, She Wrote". But both women knew the score and the stage was always their first love and where they were both at their best too. Sadly, the much of the world will never know either actress for doing anything other than those two roles by both of them and will never know what great artists they really were when they were performing live in front of an audience.
