I saw Lena Horne and The Lady and her Music at Tanglewood on a Labor Day weekend in the early 1980s. It was unquestionably the finest musical performance I have ever attended. Just her, alone on the stage, with the musicians, telling her story. No spinning the message, truth from her heart.
Starting from a very young age, I tried to see as many of the truly "great" singers in concert as possible (i.e., Frank, Ella, Tony, Sarah, Peggy, Carmen, etc., as well as the major artists of the next generation, such as Aretha, Diana, Barbra, etc.) Of all of those performances, Horne's "The Lady and Her Music" is, hands down, the one show I would most like to go back in time and see again. She was electrifying. I've never seen a performer captivate an audience the way she did.
She was stunning and talented. Breathtakingly beautiful. She opened the doors for many. Because she would like it and looked almost like she could open doors the other blacks who were of Darker Hue could not open in Hollywood and the entertainment industry
I could read her eyes and expression. As if to say look at all these people standing up for me and all the prior years of having a hardship being I am black. She was a beautiful woman so talented do lovely
For the longest time, i didn't see resemblance between Whitney and Dionne. But looking at this clip, Dionne is giving me Greatest Love of all teas and I'm here for it.
This video just made me cry. I love Lena so much, I wish I could've met her. She deserves far more than this, she didn't receive enough credit in this lifetime. But believe me one day she will. At least she's with her Father, and husband, and her son
Leana is one who truly deserved this award.. sad dionne will never receive one.. why was Jacko mentioned with all the other black female artists? Jacko was such a queen.
It's not about being a queen, it's about influence. MJ was mentioned because he's just as legendary as the other ARTISTS named and his success would not have been possible without Lena Horne. Glad we had this talk.
Beauty and Class.....Lena Horne!
She was a true legend. What a wonderful tribute
Amen.

The Kennedy Center honored Lena Horne, and broadcast this tribute, in 1984.
My goodness, if Dionne and Whitney don't favor...wow.
Baby Dionne walked
Well she wasn’t that much of a baby here - she was already 44 in here turning 45.. she became a first time grandma in 5 years (1989)
Alicia Keys for the BIO

Alicia Keys favor Lena Horne
I think there was talk about Alicia playing her in a biopic about her life. I guess it never came to be.
