    • An Interlude - By Lux ...
Hi guys, coming to you for the first time in 4K! A bit of a throwback old school photo walk today. I had a lot of fun shooting Portra 800 in my Nikon F60 at golden hour which as you'd know isn't normally my favorite time of day to shoot. I got a little annoyed at Lux because he convinced me to use his Nikon Nikkor 85mm f1.8 when I normally am happy with a kit zoom. I nearly got run over a few times trying to get the right composition. It was worth it though as the portraits at the end turned out perfect with golden back light.
    Love Lucy xoxo

Great photos! It’s always a bit of a challenge shooting a new film stock, but you rose up to the challenge and took some awesome photos. I really enjoyed the beach portraits at the end of the video. It’s always a good day when you post a video.

Yes it is a challenge hey cause you don't have that reference point yet. When I shoot Ektar I really know what I'm gonna get and how it suits my style because I shoot it a lot. I loved the portraits! Ohhhh thank you it's always a good day for me too cause I get to hear from all you lovely people! Thank you :)

Really great shots by both of you! I love this era of cameras. 85 lenses are challenging but can produce great shots. I’m thinking about getting a 100mm prime myself, but worried I’ll struggle to find the space for it walking around town or the city. Mostly thinking it will work for portraits, pets, horses, and cars

Always fun seeing you out there trying new things! I've been out with a 100mm recently looking for a specific kind of detail in my area, lots of fun 😊
I'm also considering a camera really outside my comfort zone called the Olympus IS-3000, a "bridge camera" with a built-in 35-180mm zoom lens, a really 90s plastic beast 😄 It looks absurd, but it also seems like a lot of fun to shoot. My partner tells my I don't need it, but it's really affordable since that style of camera isn't as popular as the mju's of the world, and you never know, that zoom range might come in handy 😅
PS. I really like the new look of the podcast logo and the thumbnails ✌

Hey Christian, Glad to hear you are trying new things too and getting a new camera! So exciting. I love 90's plastic cameras so much they are so underrated, let me know how you get on with it. Oh thank you I'm so glad you like the style of them, we are sort of doing a rebrand of everything and those colors are my fav and have a real retro vibe to them! :)

That sunset light is nice though and photos look soft and warm. Lux did great with portraits! While I enjoy taking photos at golden hour, I'd say most of the year we've overcast weather, so we have to channel moody Seattle. But when the sun comes out it's nice to get some classic golden hour shots ))

Banging soundtrack (again) for this episode. I was watching Ladytron vids literally just before I watched this and the sounds just felt like they just continued straight into yourvideos.
I've just been scanning some Portra 800 negatives but I'm not happy with them apart from a handful of frames - I think that, for my eyes at least, Portra 800 really doesn't look it's best when shot on a dull, overcast day. I think I might end up converting them to B&W - great use of this super expensive colour film stock, eh? :D
Some nice shots here though, and the portraits were great.

    Amazing shots - bangers galore!
I would find the tight crop of the 85mm lens limiting too - I'm more a 50mm or 40mm prime shooter myself. If I were a portrait photographer though, I'd probably thrive with 85-180mm primes as Lux's portraits of you demonstrate.
Zoom lenses are practical, but they can be an "enemy" of straight lines, that's why I prefer primes - well, that and faster apertures.

Portra 800 with 85/1.8 works. But looking at images it is nicer in lo- light and 85mm so it requires more specific subjects. And wow it truly shines with your portrait shots! So saturated colour! Nice! That film is so expensive!

Nice pics!!!. The 800 worked out really well, just a pity it's so damn expensive!!! Lomo 800 would do nearly as good, but it's not that much cheaper!!. The way prices are going with colour film, it might pay to fork out for some large rolls of Kodak Vision film and make some rollies for yourself. The 400ft rolls might be expensive, initially, but your cost per roll will be cheaper in the long run. Oh, and Lux is rocking those soundtracks :)

I do find myself almost out of balance when I actually get to shoot at sunset these days, too. I'm so used to the cold and harsh light after just taking anything I can when I can get it ... and also by conscious choice. I think it was Stephen Shore who intentionally sought to shoot in the colder light of midday instead of warm sunset light ... But anyway, I like the shots and the video!
