The new ELO and Jeff Lynne just played in Sacramento, CA. about 3 days ago. This is Jeff's final tour and he will be off the road for good after this American tour is done.. Just so you know.
I got hooked on E.L.O. as their radio presence was on the down-trend (according to the Rock n Roll Encyclopedia). As a teen back then *Time* and *Secret Messages* are the two greatest E.L.O. albums ever. The masses missed out on two gems.
FACTS.🤘 I was riding the school bus still in primary school when it came out, wed play it on the Sony boom box at the back drive the driver nuts. I loved ELO as a kid, still do!
There were no "Samples" in the 1970's. Everything was Analog not digital. When they play a sound on those keys, you are hearing a Mellotron. (Looped tape cued by the keys). The device could change pitch by stretching out the tape. It could also do a fade effect. Thus, you could have a recording of a choir singing "AAAAAHHH" , Tap the key lightly and get an "AH" or hold it down to get a long "AAAAAAHHHHHH". The BEATLES and the MOODY BLUES used the Mellotron a lot! Synth did not come around until the early 1980's but did not sound as clean as the Mellotron.
Synth was around in the 1970s, only used by a handful of bands in the early 70s (like Roxy Music and Hawkwind) plus Kraftwerk then late 70s the electronic/synth pop came in, like John Fox, early Human League, Gary Numan and others. Got really big of course in the 80s when everyone was using them.
Don't think there's one song of theirs I don't like! So glad I was around and in my youth when their songs were released! 60's-90's were the best times for music unlike today!
I didn't think this song would transport me back in time the way it did! It made me wish that the teens and young adults were hearing this type of music at their parties and in the car. What a great time of my life that was.
Jeff is a master producer. And it all goes back to the beatles. Jeff worshipped the beatles and ended up producing their posthumous songs, The traveling wilburys and the final few albums of george harrison and roy orbison.
The 70's unleashed the best decade of music that ever was or ever will be ! I grew up in the 60's and become a man duringthe 70's , what a great time to be alive !
I saw him last November at Joe Walsh's Vet Aid concert. Then, was fortunate enough his kickoff in Palm Springs in August. Very blessed, both were awesome.
I always felt ELO was futuristic. Who would have thought back in the 70s about having a pop rock band of stringed instruments. That is why I have always loved this band.Jeff Lynnes voice is so soothing to my soul.
ELO are extremely legendary and still so amazing especially their Wembley concerts 👌 Classic music influences many genres. Del la Soul and others credited Kraftwerk etc as a major influence and subsequently they were admired by Kanye West, Childish Gambino etc. Great music is timeless 💚
Jeff Lynn is well respected in music as you notice he was in the Traveling Wilbury's with those great rock stars, then he is on stage at singing and playing at the George Harrison tribute concert as well as several other events and he stretched the whole genre in many ways. ELO (pronounced as letters E-L-O) used to travel with a space ship set partly developed by engineers at NASA and it would open up and the band would be inside as it lifted and this was how the concert was done. No one did this.
@Black Pegasus I saw ELO on Oct 28, 1981 in KCMO & again in Detroit on Oct 9, 2024 (1st row floor, dead center) & when I closed my eyes Jeff Lynne sounded exactly the same as he did in ‘81. Exactly - the - same. Heavenly 🥰
When you watch "E.L.O. Wembley 2017" on TH-cam you will understand just how Jeff Lynne 'works' live. It's incredible when you realise that, when they performed this concert he was 76yrs old and his voice has not changed at all since he formed E.L.O. back in the 1970's. Please check it out and post some reactions to more of their fantastic live music from that concert.
Watch this done just a few years ago done live at Wembley in London... at 70 years old, Jeff's voice sounds JUST AS GOOD now as it did when they originally recorded this!
I was fortunate to see Jeff Lynne’s ELO concert in Sacramento last night! It was even better than I imagined! I felt like a teenager again! It was magic! You don’t just hear the music, you feel it! Jeff Lynne is a legend!! ❤
This group was really something because they had classical string players in the group! Nobody had done that before. They were yet another group during the 70s doing some stuff totally out there, different.
Saw them in concert back in the late 70's in an outdoor arena. Curtains covered the stage when the music started and when they parted, there was a giant ELO spacship on stage. When Jeff went into the chorus, the lid lifted off it and the band was inside.. Never seen anything so cool in my life!
B.P. I'm a child of the Mtv era, and I loved watching it 24/7 because of the constant flow of music videos and music talk and everything music. I dig your analysis on music you have never heard before and appreciate you for doing what you do, and for bringing my generation of music to the forefront once again. Hats off to you sir and thank you.
Just saw them in concert (farewell tour) a couple of weeks ago... they were great. I liked ELO when I was younger, but these past couple of years I've grown to love them... so many great songs.
What a time to be a teenager driving around listening to pop music on radio stations back in the mid to late 70's! ELO, Earth Wind and Fire, Boston, SuperTramp, Elton John and more. It was a steady stream of hit music every day. You would have loved it. And I very much took it for granted.
Remember Jeff in the Travelling Wilbury videos, he is iconic and so talented. So you are learning why the Wilbury's are such a Super Group with so much talent and they were just jamming really.
My wife and I are on a concert kick. Just watched The Struts in Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago. We just watched Lenny Kravitz last night in Las Vegas. We will be watching ELO in LA on Saturday, October 26th at the KIA. What a wild ride✌️🎶
Before I experienced it at Funtown USA, I loved the song "Fire on High" due to the layers and utilization of instruments. Hands down one of my all time favorite instrumentals.
Jeff Lynne is my favorite musician. I was blessed a couple years ago to see his ELO tour in Pittsburgh. As we speak, he is finishing their final-ever tour. Jeff and ELO have been a gift to the world of music. His music was the only saving grace of the movie Xanadu (ok, and Olivia Newton-John, mad crush on her back in the day). His Time album could be the basis of a cool movie. His songs All Over the World, and Mister Blue Sky, may be the happiest songs ever. His work with the Traveling Wilburys just honored Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison, and Bob Dylan. Thank you, Jeff and ELO, for the beautiful music of my formative years. ❤

I'm strangely envious of you discovering all this for the first time - I got to experience it in real time first time when it was released but it would be nice to have that rush of endorphins once again. Having said that I get a kick out of your voyage of discovery & hats off to you for having the balls to take a walk outside of your comfort zone. Love your stuff, keep up the good work. Love & Respect from the UK.
Geoff Lynn the singer was also in The Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbinson....great musician who idolized the Beatles growing up
Went to ELO concert in the 70's, unbelievable lighting effects on stage. They became my favorite band awesome to listen to when I was high, stupid youth thing thankfully I'm over. They still sound great sober in 2024
That's why I come to your channel, to get away from real life for a bit and just enjoy your reactions to some awesome music. Good vibes and good energy.
Jeff lynn is one of my favorites of all time. ELO made some great songs i always remember for the rest of my life..ELO was there when I was a kid and was tehere when i was aa teenager and i was a fan of them..Never forget them.
JL hears the music before he writes and orchestrates the song , it’s a rare gift that few people have,it’s actual Genuis . There is a great documentary about him.
I guess the reason that you didn’t hear ELO on the radio is because of the stations you listen to. Lots of ELO’s songs, including this one, have been on the radio constantly for the last 50 years.
Do these from them next time : ''Last train to London'' , ''Shine a little love'' , ''Turn to stone'' , ''Don't bring me down'' & ''The diary of horace wimp''

Jeff Lynne said on Concerts Before song was Played it's About Love. It's Hilarious I got it Was About LOVE immediately 😂😂
That "takin' a dive" that echoes from left to right is even better on an old stereo with artificial four channel and four speakers. On that, it sounds like the voice is going left to right from in front of you ending up behind you. It moves in 3D. I bought the 45 in the late 70s.
All of us elders CRINGE in unison with every "EE-low" you utter. Just know that. 🙂
Yes he does know - that is why he does it.
If you insist on calling ELO, "eeloh", I'm going to call J-Lo "jello". 😅

"Strange Magic" s another banger! ELO is unique in so many ways. Jeff is still going strong.

“Don’t bring me down” has a great beat!
A great 70s beat at that
My favourite!
I like
Don't bring me down
Still have my 45rpm single
John Lennon called them the Sons of the Beatles. Greatest Respect.
I remember when this was new on the radio. The world was a much better place then.

@deelawson4551. YES PLEASE!!!
"Telephone Line" is their best song, IMO, but they have several bangers.
Jeff Lynn and ELO are FIRE!! They're absolutely amazing in concert. Jeff is very talented and has his hands on many things. (Singing, Producing etc.)
I finally saw them live this month after loving their music forever. They were spectacular!!! Finally a 63 years old!!! And worth every penny!!!
I just saw them October 12th in Atlanta. Jeff Lynne is still amazing. What a production it was. Telephone Line was epic! This was his last tour.
🇬🇧
More TOP tunes by E.L.O
"Telephone Line" "Strange Magic" "Do Ya" "Evil Woman" "Dont Bring Me Down"
And theres loads more where they come from.
Elo still tours. I'm not sure how many people have changed , but for me at least it's incredibly uplifting that they're still making great music !
They're hard to beat! They have a sound and style that you won't confuse with any other.
I saw Jeff Lynne's ELO in D.C. in September on its farewell tour. Simply outstanding on every level.
His voice reminds me of George Harrison’s voice. So glad I lived through this musical era.
ELO were always ahead of their time.
For me I love rock and when done well I love rock and orchestral
Amen to listening and talking about music and not politics. Keep up the good work. 🎉

Twilight is my fave ELO tune. One of the first 45s I ever bought back in the early 80s!
