You could spend days taking a deep dive into Jeff Lynne/ELO. Thank you!! Do Ya, Mr. Blue Sky, Can't Get It Out of My Head, and Showdown are great. ELO's Showdown was a favorite song of John Lennon. Lennon remarked that ELO were the "Sons of the Beatles". Ringo Starr and George Harrison made frequent guest appearances on ELO albums.

ELO is one of my favourite bands. In the late 60s and early seventies bands like the beatles and ELO came along and took song writing to another level which has rarely been matched even today. These bands are the classic composers of tthis century like Mozart and Beathoven were in their day.

Some facts about Jeff Lynne (ELO)...First, he is a very humble man, simply because this Music Genius is not interested in fame, the limelight, and money, he just loves to create great music. Jeff Lynne is one of the most versatile musicians ever, this is why he is considered by his peers to be among the greatest. He didn't stick to one style of music because, after decades, it gets boring. Jeff has done progressive Rock, Symphonic Rock - Pop, New wave, and Disco.
Everything he does turns to gold. He even flirted with Country music. From 1972 to 1986 (During 14 years) Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other group in the world... 51 years later they still play in sold-out Arenas, festivals and Stadiums. During Jeff Lynne's ELO 2019 Tour, many reviews agreed in saying they are the best live Classic Rock Band in the world still touring and Jeff Lynne is a Music Genius( From Forbes Magazine and the Washington Post).
ELO is in the Rock Hall of Fame. Lynne is on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and Birmingham Walk OF Fame. Jeff Lynne’s ELO won the Best Classic Rock Band plus Lynne won the best Songwriter award ( ASCAP ) in 2019 for his fantastic contribution over the years. In October of 2020, Jeff Lynne has been made an officer of The Order Of The British Empire for his extraordinary contribution to music. He previously has received three Ivor Novello Awards, which celebrate songwriters and composers, including the award for outstanding services to British music.
He created the best Super Group of all time with his best friend George Harrison, The Traveling Wilburys. The Legends in the Music Industry call Jeff Lynne the best overall Musician ever and a Producer Extraordinaire. Jeff Lynne has written and produced many hit songs for music legends like George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Joe Walsh, Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Del Shannon, the Everly Brothers, The Beatles, and so many others...

Since you noted that you've only reacted to ELO's pop-rock style, I'll suggest a few other types of their songs. All of these are great songs too!
    • Fire On High - an instrumental that is somewhat proggy with a creepy intro
    • Rockaria - rock 'n roll with some opera bits thrown in
    • Mission (A World Record) - moody and psychedelic with sci-fi lyrics
    • Shine A Little Love - full on Disco rock, accented with some hard rock riffs in spots
    Thanks for doing more ELO!

The entire A New World Record (1976) album is classic as is the follow-up, eclectic double LP Out of the Blue (1977). Both are masterpieces and my favourite two ELO albums. I love every song off both LPs. Try the catchy, more rockin' Do Ya, the super sad Telephone Line and the audacious, unusual Rockaria, all from a New World Record. Out of the Blue has too many bangers to name. "I either like it or love it.' Well said, Nick.

I graduated in 1978 and there were certain albums that it seemed like everybody had including this one. I would almost put ELO in the progressive genre although back in the day we weren't as quick to categorize everything. Reaction to ELO's Concerto for a rainy day would be awesome. It's 4 tracks culminating in Mr blue sky, so rather long but an incredible musical journey. The whole thing is like an audio movie - the ending of Mr blue sky takes on a whole new meaning when you've been on the whole concerto journey. Thanks for the reaction.

    Just fantastic!!!
One of my favorite songs ever! And I'm sure I heard it for the first time as a little kid in my parents car. Sure!!!
I love the ELO, and I fully agree with your comments guys. Love it.
About Disco, I think the ELO, without intention, could be Disco parents...maybe that's why they kind to be underrated during the 80's, like Bee Gees, but they didn't do that intentionally. They just did excellent music.
Other favorites are: All Over the World, Last train to London, Sweet talking Woman, Evil Woman, Shine a little Love (funniest ever song I heard) and Mr Blue Sky.
    Regrads from Chile!! 🙂

Love the reaction! You guys are really appreciating the 70’s and there are more gems to be discovered in that era. Why not try some Joan Armatrading! Haven’t seen her reacted to on other channels. Her Love and Affection is a good one to kick that off…

Mr. Blue Sky is a certain "raise the spirits" tune. Love the use of plucking the violins.

I totally agree at 12:48. ELO was NOT a Beatles knock-off band. I'm familiar with the Beatles (not a fan), and never understood the comparison. ELO has a sound that's much fuller and far more orchestral than anything the Beatles did, and their background vocal arrangements are far more complex. ELO is really it's own thing the way it integrates the orchestra into traditional pop music instruments. No other group sounds like that. The instant you hear them, you know exactly who it is. Nick is right. ELO has a very distinct sound and identity separate from the Beatles.

Love you guys! There was a snippet of a song in the movie American Hustle that intrigued me. I was surprised to find it was ELO - a song called Showdown. I think you'd really enjoy it!

Mr Blue Sky, Hold On Tight, Calling America, Rock n Roll Is King, & Do Ya are all among my favorite ELO songs. Great stuff!

Ya'll need to see the live version of "Evil Woman." The entire crowd (except for a few young'uns) are 60 something like me
