  • The most recent 3D Printer I purchased is the Creality K1C. We bought it specifically to test against the Bambu P1S and see if the cheaper Creality 3P Printer is the king of the assembled CoreXY machines. Creality released the K1C priced competitively and with a feature set ready to tackle the current king of CoreXY Bambu lab. For the price of of around $550 you get a fully enclosed CoreXY 3D printer capable of printing carbon filled engineering grade filaments with a hardened steel nozzle. Running Klipper firmware the machine has the capability of a high amount of customization and control. Is creality ready to take the thrown or did they drop the ball?
    Due to my evaluation of this machine, I will NOT be posting an affiliate link for purchase.

    I have quite a few printers that all run Klipper and wanted a core xy. So I decided to pick up a k1 on a huge flash sale a while back. I was aware of the issues at the time so I planned for it and was OK with some tuning and modding. I bought a camera, an updated extruder, updated hot end, installed the k1 max brass nozzle with steel insert and a few PEI sheets. I also rooted mine and leveled the bed and printed some upgrades. I sealed my enclosure as well and added a carbon filter. I also spent some time adjusting the belts and some time tunning most of my filaments on ORCA. My k1 now prints like a dream. And I mean it puts out some amazing prints. I have a variance of 0.12mm on my build plate now and once I did I saw perfect first layers. I know it sounds like a lot of work but for the price you can't find a better printer. But you do have to like tinkering and upgrading your printers. So for me, it was fun to mess around with it. I have no banding at all on mine. The only thing is a bit of VFA's at certain speeds. So I adjust accordingly. So to me the K1 is not for everyone. But is a great option for those who want to upgrade a core xy and don't want to build a Voron. Oh I designed a seal for the door that fits great and has a good seal. I can give you the link if you want. Great video and sorry you had so many issues with your K1C. That sucks

      PLEASE i need the link! I have the k1c and hate the gap, everything else though i agree with you. haven’t rooted mine yet but your right, vfxs are easy to fix with just a change in print speeds. I like everything else about this printer thought and 100% agree you can’t complain for the money.

    Came here from the infill podcast... SUPER high production quality. 👍As far as the topic... the K1c sounds exactly like the K1 tbh lol - k1 was my first printer and I love it because I got it for $390 and I get to benefit from quick 3d prints for functional parts but the print quality issues are definitely there. I'll probably get around to modding it into better print quality for now but it hasn't been #1 on my priority list.

    Awesome! The K1C and V3 are really next level!
    I bought the v3 myself as well for content and just for my business as well.
    I won a K1C last night in the Creality live stream. Im still in shock but im super excited to race the two printers! Im comparing the A1 mini and the new core xz v3. I am super hyped to record content on the k1c as well!
    Great review, im so excited. You earned my sub Rem!
    PS. I reccomend you give the bambu lab 16 dollar liquid glue a try. Its really amazing stuff. I am super impressed with it!

    You can easily solve the problem with the glue of the previous print sticking to another print by washing the buildplate with hot soapy water and then drying it good after every print.

    Great review and information. i also bought a K1c, but i am a neophyte vs experienced user like yourself. i built my own printer in 2016, then subsequently gave that to a kid who wanted to learn. i think bought a Lulzbot Taz 5. i printed some very cool things on that printer, but my interest waned and i stopped printing around 2018. The reason? i didn't want to be a printer mechanic, constantly having to tinker with and tune the printer. i wanted to delve more into design and actual printing. i got excited with printing again with all the rave reviews on Bambu Labs. So why did i go with the K1C? Bambu's proprietary focus is what held me back. While i do not want to be a printer mechanic, i don't want to give up, what to me is core to the 3d printing community: "open source." What i find though is, what i tried to avoid (i.e., being a printer mechanic), is still not as possible as i hoped it would be. It's better. Way better. Just having automatic leveling is a visit to Nirvana.... but now i have to root the machine and tune it, which is a learning curve for me i'm not looking forward too. I've actually tried and failed to root my printer twice, and i'm sure it's just ignorance on my part, the guides i've used have been stellar and many have succeeded using them. i'm going to keep my K1c because to me it honors the open source community in ways Bambu has not, but like you, i am not a happy customer.

      Hey Paul thanks for checking out the video. I totally see your points about the open source side of things. It ultimately boils down to what you’re looking for in an experience I think. I hope you’re able to get your K1C on track!

    Thanks a lot for a good and honest review of the K1C. After it came out, reviews have been sparse, and most are very superficial and seem to be happy to see it print at all, but they don’t take a critical look at the machine like you have done.
    I feel that Creality have done the same here as with the Emder-series; They’re close to getting it real good, but odd decisions are making it less than ideal.
    The K1C quality issues you’re facing seem to be due to unstable frame and too narrow belts, and I’m not sure there’s an easy fix for that. It’s certainly not something I’d bet on.
    So for the around $150 more, I’ll say that Bambu Lab P1S is still a better buy, regardless of the odd little screen and weird controls, which costs less than $20 to upgrade.

    • @remthompson
      @remthompson  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you liked the video. Putting out a negative review feels like such a weird thing, but ultimately being honest and fair is a huge deal. I wanted to love this machine I really did, it checked so many boxes for what I’m looking for, but ultimately it just didn’t hang for me

    I have a Creality CR 20 Pro printer. It's basically just an ender 3 printer. It’s the first and only 3d printer I have. After all the struggling to get it print well, I lost my interest for the hobby. I just didn't get good prints and got more or less lost in Cura. So much adjustments that I got overwhelmed. My printer have not been used for a few years now. I got the ich again though. You can be sure it will not be on a Creality printer. I will get me a Bambu Lab P1S, maybe combo, but the good thing, I can just add that later.
    I actually want to like Creality. Very affordable machines, that are easy to get part for where I live and are upgradeable. With that said, a Bambu Lab isn't that much more and all reviews is have seem say it’s just plug & play. It just work. Thats a huge selling point for me now.
    Thank you for an honest review.

    I know most people think an Ender 3 is barely worth owning. I'm one of those who has two of them and enjoy them immensely. But, no way I'm going to up my game with another 220 x 220 build plate. They should have copied Bambu with the bigger plate. Rediculous mistake.

    • @remthompson
      @remthompson  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! I had to make the decision within a certain time window so I didn’t lose the ability to return the machine.
      Ultimately it came down to my belief the short comings are hardware based and not software based. This machine is positioned as one that doesn’t need tinkering and I didn’t purchase it with the intention of another project printer. My hope was that it should have been a “set it and forget it” machine.
      The return was not a decision I made lightly because I genuinely wanted to love the printer, it checked so many boxes for what I wanted / needed but ultimately I couldn’t justify keeping it for the price I paid relative to my experience. I’ve seen plenty of people really enjoying their K1C printers and I’m very happy for them! I had a bad experience and can’t recommend the product based on my own experience and if I’m going to purchase something so expensive I’m not willing to write off that much as a loss. I’ve spent my fair share of dumb money on things, and lost out on plenty but my hopes and expectations didn’t meet the reality of the situation for me personally

    Creality will never get another dime from me. All of my 3d printers going forward will be from bambu labs. I just got an a1 mini and I'm blown away by how easy it was to set up and get running. I'll be getting a full size a1 once they come back in stock. With creality machines, the printer ends up being the hobby. With bambu labs, the modeling and printing is the hobby, which I prefer.

    I just bought and loved a Flashforge Adventurer 5M for two weeks. And then it died. Some sort of electronics board inside the tool head. "Warranty" means that if you jump through a bunch oh hoops, we'll send you what we think is wrong with your printer, shipped from China.
    I had previously thought about a K1 or K1C, but the K1 has artifacts and the K1C has artifacts and a cheesy little glued-on silicon brush that is crucial to the proper functioning of the bed leveling system.
    I think Bambus are out of my price range and, IDK there are other reasons I just object to their stuff. AMS is a machine designed to waste plastic, for honestly not-that-good-looking multicolor prints at a time where there is increased scrutiny of plastic waste in the rest of society.
    This segment of the 3D printing market is just not there yet. Sub $500 -- Fast -- Reliable . You can only pick two.

      So I agree to an extent. However when you look at the situation, bambu puts all of their engineering into a small number of machines compared to creality. Apple puts their phone development into one phone with several sizes essentially compared to Samsung.
      More engineering one a smaller number of items tends to lead to a higher quality released product. Creality tends to push several versions of the same machines. 3 ender 3s released at once was quite a lot

      @@remthompson Apple hardware once upon a time was works of art. Now the hardware is nothing special at all and sometimes even sub par. Apple has the eco system, that's what makes Apple 'better' than say Samsung. It's certainly not the hardware. I think the same can be said about printers, often really good designs are sabotaged by bad software and eco systems. Bambu makes really good hardware and they did a good job leveraging existing software to make a good eco system. Eventually more and more companies will make as good or better printers, it'll be about the eco system, support and brand loyalty. People do tend to feel a product is better IF they paid a premium for that product.
