Great reaction, but I'm not sure - did you like it or not?🤣 If they play anywhere near you then yes definitely go (they won't play this but you won't be at all disappointed at what they do play) and yes buy tickets the day they go on sale ... you will have to do that to get one.
As Jake Muller said, the piano at the end is the bridge into the next song - 'The ONE' which actually began life as part of this song - it was separated quite early in the writing process, but it does share some themes and the piano was playing the main melody for that song. It isn't as wild as 'Tales of the Destinies' of course, it is more of a prog ballad or anthem if anything ... it is a song dedicated to the fans (who they also named 'The ONE').

It seems you couldn't resist to hear this song despite our recommendations, is all good, just remember that this song is attached to another one very special, and is definitely one off the regular sound they did musically.
Thanks for coming back with more BM songs and this time with another special song from their 2nd album Metal Resistance, and this one is even more meaningful, this song was performed previous to last and ending the show.
Nice you found the BMRR channel to get that original clip.
It took several years for KobaMetal (the producer and mastermind of this group) to create this progressive metal song along with "The One" which is the next song, he's a Dream Theater fan. This song was performed only one time at Tokyo Dome 2016 with 55K fans witnessing this special and one of a kind live concert, people from all over the world attended this two nights performing their entire catalogue by that time from 1st and 2nd album, only song they didn't performed was From Dusk Till Dawn.
There's a lot of crazy transitions and dope time signature changes. Is one of the hardest song they ever performed, even some troubles suddenly happened when performing this but fortunately they made it through like a real pro. I always love the reaction over that piano section with the cutesy dance moves.
The piano outro is no other than "The One" melody announcing the next song with this peaceful bridge. Get ready for some emotional and beautiful song which follow with a little bit of metal but more like a progressive rock ballad, "The One" is a song that is dedicated to all of their fans, it would be the right follow up to this reaction if you were already a BM fan knowing everything what they've been going through.
Since you were asking for it, here's again:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist.
    *MoaMetal* scream and dance.
*YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018.
    None of them are related.
They got a lot of different musicians and composers over this project, but like i said the final word approving the song is KobaMetal and he's behind the lyrics on this one too.
The Kami Band you saw here only play live and none of them are involved during album recording sessions, except only for one member who's credited during certain songs, he's called Leda Cygnus but he wasn't this night playing.
The Kami Band members this night are: Mikio Fujioka (R.I.P.) and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. Remember according to the lore all of them were send to help the girls with the metal sound. This time you're watching their regular costume back then wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint representing those spiritual entities unlike the masks you saw at Budokan 2021 and what they're wearing after 2019, some people don't like those masks but i think there's a reason for that decision and personally I don't mind and totally fine with that.
Glad you loved this one, there's a reason for this performed only one time and that should stay that way for everyone who witnessed this special moment in BM career.
    See you next time🦊🤘

I believe you liked it... I get it. 😁 Welcome to the Fox Hole!
I admit I'm not much into prog metal and I didn't understand it at first, BUT the moment I watched this unique (literally) live performance, suddenly all made sense to me and now (followed by "The ONE"), this is one of my favorite BABYMETAL moments and I like to revisit it frequently.

Takes is so complicated that BabyMetal has only performed it live ONCE! Whenever musicians/Metal heads have reacted to this song, mind blown as trying to grasp what the hell is going but loving it at the same time. As many say, BabyMetal nearly has something to offer someone to love. From power metal, speed metal, trash , industrial, djent, prog, power ballads, etc.

That performance of 'Tales of the Destinies' was at Tokyo Dome, with 55,000 in the audience.
BABYMETAL performed again the next night, with an entirely different setlist.
Over those two nights they performed all of the songs on the Japanese versions of the first two albums, 'BABYMETAL' and 'Metal Resistance'.
On the 'Metal Resistance' album, and at this performance, the piano outro of this song goes right into the piano intro of 'THE ONE'.
This Tokyo Dome Red Night concert (September 19th, 2016) is the only time that 'Tales of the Destinies' has been performed live.
Pulling this song off live at Tokyo Dome with only two guitarists still blows my mind.
A few changes, but it still sounds a lot like the studio track.
Hope you like time signatures, we put as many in this song as we could possibly fit. : )
I grew up with early Pink Floyd, King Crimson, ELP and experimental electronic music.
So I was very ready for this one when the 'Metal Resistance album dropped in 2016.
Definitely a Dream Theater feel in this one.
Their 'Images and Words' is one of BABYMETAL producer Koba's favorite albums.
And of course, I love the little ragtime jig that Yui and Moa do in the middle of the song.

@@JON.HOUSE24 'The One' is also proggy. It was originally part of Tales of the Destinies. It was split off into it's own song. The piano at the end of Tales is the start of The One. Personally I don't think it's nearly as good as Tales. But the music video is really cool. They had a super cool stage show for it. I won't spoil it. But if you have paranoid delusions about the illuminati then don't watch it. There is a triangle. Some would say a pyramid but that is incorrect. A pyramid has a square base that is a tetrahedron. But if you get triggered by geometric shapes then you should avoid that video.

"Doing what you want to do, and not caring about fitting into one single genre" is pretty much the definition of Babymetal. But it's generally a mistake to think about this group as a traditional band. They didn't start in Su's garage, with the girls writing their own music and lyrics, playing small venues and sending demos to record labels until they got signed. In that regard they should definitely be considered a constructed band.
But while this is often considered to be a negative thing, we should probably ask ourselves why that is. I always argue that the problem with constructed bands is not so much the fact that they are constructed. In fact, all bands are technically constructed by _someone._ It's not like they grow on trees, after all. It's just that sometimes the person behind the initiative isn't necessarily on stage with the rest of the group. Quite often, it is a producer, or team of producers, trying to create a commercial product that appeals to the widest possible audience, with the cynical goal of making as much money as possible recording music they don't actually like. A recipe that makes for trite pop music that can be mass marketed to undiscerning teens, but is generally scorned by music critics and more selective listeners.
Babymetal does not fit that mold. In fact, they are pretty much at the opposite end of the spectrum. There was nothing cynical about their creation, never any shortcuts taken with the music, which was never made to be commercial in any way, and there was never anyone who actually believed this thing would make a profit. Rather, it was a passion project and musical experiment by a genius metalhead called Kobayashi Kei (better known as Kobametal), who honestly thought that Su's vocals would be perfectly complemented by full-on hard-as-all-hell heavy metal music. Sure, it's totally unconventional and doesn't fit the image of a typical heavy metal band, but from a purely musical standpoint, there's no reason it shouldn't work.
So now all he had to do was convince a reluctant music industry and a mostly white and middle-aged metal audience that a 12 year old girl can actually front a heavy metal band, and not just as a joke or cheap gimmick. To do that, he has hired the very best songwriters, musicians and choreographers in Japan, and together with the girls, they have all worked their asses off for more than a decade, making Babymetal into the phenomenon they are today. In that regard, it makes more sense to compare them to a broadway show or similar group efforts, rather than a conventional metal band.
They've had to withstand much hate and bile over the years, constantly fighting preconceptions of what metal music is _supposed_ to be, and they've only succeeded because of the undeniable quality if their music and the extremely high standard of their live performances. I very rarely come across music that I find both truly good and original these days, but Babymetal never fails to both surprise and impress. That they refuse to conform to expectations and continuously challenge the gatekeeping of conservative metalheads is so refreshing.
While they do not have any other songs that are quite as progressive as "Tales of the Destinies", there's still a lot of amazing music left to discover. Perhaps give "Rondo of Nightmare" a try, as it will give you a proper introduction to the Kami band, and make it easier for you to identify Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal), as this is a solo performance of hers (without Moa or Yui):
    th-cam.com/video/tmMocP99QkQ/w-d-xo.html
Other somewhat proggy songs that you are likely to enjoy are perhaps "Syncopation" and "Yava", but although they are great, they are far from the most popular Babymetal songs. Those would probably be "Megitsune", "Headbanger", and "Road of Resistance". You should probably give those a try as well, even though they are far less progressive. And when you finally think you know what to expect from Babymetal, you should listen to "Babymetal Death", "BxMxC", "Sis. Anger" or "Akatsuki, unfinished version" and you will realize that you know nothing at all 🙂
I really envy you, getting to discover Babymetal and hearing these songs for the first time! Make sure to upload everything, so that we can all reexperience this vicariously through you ;-)

I know you mentioned that they've worked very hard to get to where they are today, but just to be clear, they did work their way up by starting in very small venues, borrowing stage clothes and playing music on a track because they couldn't afford a band.

One thing I think that gets overlooked about the origin of Babymetal is that they were part of Sakura Gakuin, an idol group. Su, Yui and Moa all took part in this very cute girl group that was in effect a fictionalized Japanese Middle School. (If you've ever watched any of the clips from their tv appearances, they were always set in a classroom where either a "teacher" or "principal" would lecture and they would usually respond with a funny answer.
The music is definitely very Japanese idol pop - sort of Jrock with anime overtones (very reminiscent of AKB48 or Morning Musume.) Even more interesting, if you watch the choreography, you can see a style very similar to what Moa and Yui perform during Babymetal concerts.
I think Babymetal is part passion project and part marketing in its origins. Amuse (the talent agency that created Sakura Gakuin) came up with the concept of creating sub-units that resemble extra-curricular clubs in a Japanese Middle School. The very first one was Twinklestars, where seven members did baton-twirling routines. They also sold their singles at live venues where Sakura Gakuin performed. The same thing happened for Babymetal, which explains why they used Baby Bones, the "air guitar" band that performed on the DVD. Amuse was very smart in creating sub-units who you could only buy their singles at concerts. (Physical sales are still huge in Japan to this day, which the music companies love because the profit from physical sales is far higher than streaming.)
The fact that Babymetal became so popular I think was a shock to everyone. Obviously no one expected that a trio of very young girls performing heavy metal music would take off to such heights. I will say that Iine is probably the one song that was somewhat commercial in creating. It seems the most like a gimmick - especially the strange rap interlude (which I believe they haven't performed in many years.) But it's the exception.

Speechless is good too ! 🙂
Yeah, Babymetal isn't a regular band for sure.
Imagine a guy who works at a talent company in Japan (the entertainment sector in Japan is in part organized a bit differently, in some ways).
He works with bands, does all the work a band needs, filling in the gap from tour manager to producer, marketing, etc.
Demand for bands in Japan goes down, just like rock and metal haven fallow out of the mainstream in the west. He is asked to work at the kids division.
He keeps his eyes open for talent. He noticed Suzuka, age 11, has good stage presence and especially a clear loud voice.
His desire of doing something with metal music flares up, the loud music and the loud voice, maybe it will go together.
The girls he was asked to work with are Japanese idols. And he does all the things he used to do for bands, but then with a J-pop idol group.
Suzuka's J-pop group ends, they were half of the music for an anime. The anime ended. He finds a way to work with Suzuka for a single show to see what she is like.
Both his group and Suzuka join a new bigger project/j-pop idol group; Sakura Gakuin, his group becomes a sub-group. Sakura Gakuin is for girls of the ages 10 to 15 and they are school themed, but it's not meant to become popular, it's very much a training group. They use it to train the girls and give them experience in all kinds of things of the entertainment industry they would be part of if they stay with the company: acting, singing, dancing, hosting interviews, modeling, doing photo shoots, etc. These sub-groups are 'school club' with their own theme: cooking club (which is the group he had before), newspaper club. He pitches the idea of a heavy music club, but as expected he would get no funding. But he's allowed to do it as a hobby project. And so Babymetal is born. 3 girls, 1 in the middle and 2 'angels'. The girls know nothing about metal, they were young and it wasn't mainstream. Music is written partially by him and even plays some parts for recording, others are hired to do this. Eventually Babymetal gets an audience and Suzuka is to old for the big group and she needs to leave. The girls are asked if they want Babymetal to continue and they agree. Babymetal's audience keeps growing, including overseas through the few MVs on TH-cam. Babymetal is able to keep growing and is able to hire a live band, Kami band, which plays live when Babymetal performs. They've been doing more and bigger live shows. And also music and rock and even metal festivals. And in 2014 they perform at the prestigious Budokan in Tokyo and announce their first world tour. They had done a few shows in Asia (including anime events), but they go to Europe. Their first metal festival outside of Japan is in the UK. By this time one of their song MVs had gone viral on TH-cam. They sell out their own show in UK very fast and Babymetal is moved to the mainstage at the festival. Their 3rd performance in Europe after doing 2 small own shows in France and Germany. There are 60 000 people there, lots of them don't really know Babymetal, some of them had only seen that one MV. Babymetal wins them over and the music/rock/metal press praises them and their fame around the world grows much faster. Long story short: so Babymetal's music is created like an idol group, a request is made to those interested to create a song around an idea by the producer. Some songs are created by the girls, young ladies now. They were always created 'in their voice', for lack of a better word: age appropriate. The growl vocals are studio recorded and possibly manipulated and are used almost like an instrument. But what is important: the girls now understand metal music and the passion and respect for metal of everyone involved in Babymetal is clear. It's not manufactured or cookie-cutter, but precision engineering.

    • @autohmae
      @autohmae ปีที่แล้ว +1

Eventually Babymetal set out to do what only Babymetal can do. After all they are one of very few who have different song writers, etc. and with dance. Which allows them to do things no other band does. But their is an other aspect not much talked about: metal music sales, not just of Babymetal went up in Japan, at the same time Babymetal popularity increased. So it's working

The writing process seems to be from the clues we are given, First the Producer Koba who is a huge metal fan works with professional song writers to come up with the song, apparently there is a back and forth before Koba is happy with the song, then they record a kind of demo which outlines the song and arrangement and practice tapes are made that are sent to the studio and live musicians to learn the song, at this point I believe the Musicians get to add their input, lead solos drum fill etc. The lyrics, Su has said she will sing riffs and melodies she feels fits the song then the lyrics are written to fit what she sings. I don't know if this is the process for every song but it seems to be how they generally do it. Babymetal are careful not to give much away so we as fans kind of have to piece together almost everything we know (or think we know) from little comments we pick up from articles and interviews over the years. Herman li said when he was composing the guitars for Road of Resistance he was sent the demo with synth as a placeholder for the guitars, he had many back and forths with Koba before they were happy, where as, when Tim Henson wrote the guitars for Brand New Day Koba was happy with Tim's first attempt. I don't know if this explanation helps but everyone involved seems to have some artistic licence and Koba has the final say as with everything Babymetal

Calling them a band is misleading, think pop singers with small label behind them, but music is metal.
Their producer Key Kobayashi ( Kobametal ) who worked in a children division of a talent agency and is a metalhead came up with an idea to mix jpop idol performance with metal music.
He put together the whole project. Picked the girls from a jpop group from agency he worked for. Worked with musicians and composers from pop, metal and rock scenes to compose the music and write the songs, hired a kickass session band to support the girls on live shows and used a production team of his parent company to produce the live shows. There is like a dozen artists semi hidden under pseudonyms credited for the songs and then session band adds their arrangements making them sound usually even better live than on albums, live shows are meant as the main treat and albums are more like apetizers.
Tales of the Destinies is a one off tribute to Dream Theater, Karate was more representative of what BM is like. There is nothing else as proggy in their discography, but there are many impressive technically songs you are going to like, I'd recommend: Arkadia, Syncopation, Yava, Akatsuki, Ijime Dame Zettai, Road of Resistance ( a bit generic Dragonforce inspired power metal, but epic stage show ) and "The One" is a prog rocky continuation of Tales of the Destinies, but leave it for after you fall in love with the girls, official video is epic when you are a fan ) but don't dismiss some really good but more poppy like Karate songs, here I'd recommend: Megitsune, Headbangerrr!, From Dusk Till Dawn, Uki Uki Midnight, Catch Me If You Can.
I'd alternate between more metal and more poppy songs, I'm also not asking you to react to all of this ( unless you want to ), I'm just pointing you to some good ones to hook you on Babymetal.

It's nice that you did the album and the Tokyo Dome performances. TOTD is a great example of Babymetal's emotional manipulation and stage craft. They really do push beyond the normal boundaries of a rock concert and you end up with a moving theatrical experience.
TOTD is my favourite BM song and I consider it to be one of three prog songs that BM has, the other two being "The One" and "Rondo of Nightmare". I bought the Tokyo Dome DVD just for this and "The One". The rest of the concert is awesome, but this is the only live performance of TOTD and it's the height of Kobayashi's art/artifice/showing off/seeing what he can get away with etc. It's very obviously a homage to Dream Theater, "The Dance of Eternity", even the two titles echo one another. It's interesting to note that Dream Theater performed at UK Sonisphere 2013 where BM had an early international success and I wonder if Kobametal saw them perform. This could have been a complete disaster but Babymetal bring their unique singing and dancing talents to the song and the Kami Band are fantastic...as they always are. To so obviously reference another awesome piece of music and yet still be different and brilliant on its own takes a lot of skill...and either guts or hubris. I love the way the ending resolves from the prog metal madness into a beautifully lyrical piano solo and the Charlies Angels ending is cute. Kobametal says that it took a couple of years to get TOTD to it's final state. I really think of Babymetal as Kobametal's massive ten year art project.

Another perfect vocal performance by Su, while doing a full-on dance routine. Is there any other performer in the World who could do that? I don't think so.

Just a quick comment: don't expect BM to have other songs like this, or you will get disappointed.
Babymetal likes to experiment all kind of genres, so you will find all kinds of metal genres mixed with other stuff you wouldn't think it could work together!
So you have Prog, thrash, industrial, djent, power, ballad, etc
And you will find traces of EDM, ska, rap, latin, folk, bollywood, etc
THis was their homage to prog!
"The One" is probably their second most Prog song, but don't expect it to be like this :D

As we promised you, Babymetal is incredibly versatile with the styles of music they explore and the skill with which they can execute anything they set their minds to. Babymetal have a deep respect for the history and legacy of metal and they frequently make reference to legendary metal acts in their songs and their stage shows. This song is their tribute to Dream Theater, and the song "Dance of Eternity" in particular. The live version you watched is the only time it has ever been performed live. I think this viewing of the studio and the live versions back to back shows why Babymetal is best experience as a live performance.
Babymetal is the three girls (now two) up front, while the backing band for their live shows is known as the Kami Band. The girls are Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) lead vocals, Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) scream and dance, and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) scream and dance; Yuimetal left the group in 2018 due to health reasons. In regards to the song writing, its done by a writing team, with different songs being written by by different writers. The studio recordings are done with sessions musicians, not the Kami Band. We don't really know all that much about the creative process behind the scenes because Kobametal, Babymetal's creator and manager, is big on maintaining the mystery around the group and doesn't want the fans to see "how the sausage is made" so to speak. One notable recent change we have seen with the release of the new songs for the upcoming album is that Su-metal is credited as a lyrics writer for Divine Attack.

I bet you're glad you gave them another shot! haha They don't really have a "sound", Babymetal does everything as far as metal is concerned. Enjoy the ride with the rest of their catalogue! You may not like every song as much as you did this one, but there is some seriously legit music and performances in their catalogue. New album coming this spring! The 2 singles they dropped so far have been amazing.

Babymetal is a band that experiments too much and for better or worse their songs are very different from each other. So if you fell in love with a song it is difficult for them to have a "similar" one. This song is a clear tribute to Dream Theater since the producer of the band (Koba Metal) is a big fan
The only song that comes close to progressive metal is "The one" which was originally going to be the same song along with this one.
Although if you take the definition you gave in the video of "basically doing whatever you want and not wanting to fit into a genre", then you just defined babymetal. :)

Awesome reaction to Babymetal's kickass Prog Metal song! You won't find another like this in the catalog (not yet anyways), but they do have a varied amount of music to hear. I second the recommendation to check out "From Dusk till Dawn" from Budokan 2021. Again, love the passion you have for this song!

A lot of their other songs have prog elements, but this is their only just...balls to the wall prog song. BabyMetal is genre defying, tho. They have 'safe for radio' songs, sure. But even the popiest of their songs bend the rules somehow. BM is never straightforward, and almost every song is surprising in some way. 🤘🦊🤘

I like the way you do the double shot reactions keep it up. However, as most of us agree BM live is the best, I'm going to ask that you react to the same song "Akatsuki" live budokan black night th-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/w-d-xo.html then "Akatsuki unfinished" from live legend 1997 th-cam.com/video/nwsinmxTxbo/w-d-xo.html Same song live but very different, both great imo.
