- And now, the Sony PlayStation Portable aka PSP!
A great little device that lost a lot of its momentum to the Nintendo DS in the handheld wars. A real shame as the PSP was a genuinely high tech portable device. While itself a great little device, the Nintendo DS tended to go for more 'casua'l experiences, while the PSP went for more of the full-fat "AAA" experiences that could be found on its home console brethen.
If you examine some of the more advanced PSP games, they were really were essentially portable versions of the PlayStation experience. Games like the Wipeout series really blurred the line between the home console and portable experience.
This video has an interesting selection of games throughout the PSPs lifecycle, from 2005 launch titles ("Archer Macleans Mercury") to games late in the PSP's lifecycle (PES 2013), so it's interesting to be able to see how the games improved as developers started to get used to the tech.
Personally, I'd still rather spend time portable gaming on my 2005 PSP than a 2017 tablet/smartphone...

PSP was my childhood's most remarkable memory. I used to spend a lot of time playing games on it until my early High School years. In spite of having bought a Nintendo DS, PSP was still the best companion.

Damn, I love psp. Maybe didn't have many games, but majority is awesome, even ps2 ports. Medieval 66 metacritic, can't believe, that game still is awesome I own UMD. Also PSP have lot of awesome Japanese rpg,love those games.and graphic on majority games still holds well.

The amount of time I spent actually playing a game was so much higher on PSP consoles.
the thing I hated about Burnout : Legends was that maximum time if you gain the highest speed you can with your car then theres a 70% chance that you will crash
After watching Top 100 GBA Games and then now this as I was told by Gary. So far nice set of PSP Game list. I'm definitely going to try some of the cool games I found here using PPSSPP, hopefully some of it will run smoothly since this PSP Emulator can't run all games as fine as the others.😃
I'm more of a Hack&Slash Game Enthusiast so seeing Gods Eater Burst in the list is like "Oh yeah! GEB totally deserves to be in the top 100 list. I don't care about the chronological order as long as it has decent games listed in it and so it does. I was introduced by my older brother in Hack&Slash Games (particularly in PSP only) through Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, I liked it but I loved Gods Eater Burst just because of one small important detail; the Locked On System.😎 Most of the games that I have installed in PPSSPP are Namco Bandai games since they run perfectly fine, and these are Gods Eater Burst, Ridge Racer 2, Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny and Tales of the World - Radiant Mythology.😉

For a video showing plenty of rhythm psp games, you never see Segas "Hatsun Miku", the english translated ones, 3 of them...they are challenging on the fingers, & play well.

Dusted off my PSP the other day. Plenty of games to still finish (Motorstorm Arctic Edge was in the UMD drive), but also a few I'd still like to get (Driver 76, Resistance Retribution). PSP had some awesome tie-in games to PS2 and PS3 IPs.

I actually have a PS Vita. Since the library of Vita-native games is somewhat lacking (unless you love visual novels) I turned to tried and true PSP. Which Vita emulates perfectly with it's built-in emulation engine. It even conveniently has exactly twice the resolution. You can even save the emulation state, something you won't do with a real PSP. And hardware-wise, Vita is a better option for playing PSP games than PSP, since it has a bigger screen (but at the cost od smaller buttons). Plus, it's also a bit better for PSX/PS1 games because it has a second analog stick like the dual shock and the front and rear touchscreen corners can be mapped to L2/R2/L3/R3. I really recommend Vita over PSP, even just for playing PSP games.
