I was born in 2000 and my brother who was born in 1986 emulated most of these games for me when I was around the age of 6. At the time I thought these were regular pc games and they were a huge part of my childhood. Things were never easy at my house but I would always find comfort and company on games and I don’t know if my brother ever knew the impact this had on me. Since we have an age gap of 14 years we never really clicked. He was a teenager when I was a kid and by the time I was a teenager he had already left our parents house and started making plans of his own. Today we’re far from being close but, even though we don’t have many memories together, the nostalgia I get from SNES games always makes me feel closer to him.

Because I've ordered your list from 1 to 100 with links thus making it better for your viewers to navigate. I know it's also a spoiler, but hey, nobody's perfect.
Even though this is a IGN list, it's super cool that it's video footage only instead of poor writing. Actually seeing footage of each game, albeit very briefly, is still much better than writing. Great video, thanks.
Most of my childhood memories are when I was too young to play these games by myself. I loved to watch for hours my big brother playing these for me. I love you Brother
SNES is probably the best console. It has such a variety of absolutely fantastic games and the visuals are tolerable and still had that classic “retro” vibe I love!!
@KT old systems such as snes and so forth paved the way for Play station consoles. Everyone has their own go to bag of personal nostalgia, but regardless of what you prefer, The oldies paved the way and will always be the true originals of the game world
@@tobe1207 there's been a couple good remakes on PS5, and Ragnarok is a pretty good exclusive.. but thats about it. No classics yet, but FFXVI looks like it might be absolutely killer. And PSVR2 is pretty insane..
I was lucky enough to have played almost all of this games on a snes console on my childhood. One of the greatest console ever created. My father used to love Super Mario World, even though he couldn't beat the second level from 1st world lol. So much good memories, all the friends i did because of games.
Best console ever made. I must’ve rented most of these games out with my buddies from blockbuster video in the good old 90s. The lost Viking’s was probably my favourite. Never understood the popularity of starfox though.
hardly: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_game_consoles and even games for PS1 were better: The Top 100 PS1 Games In 10 Minutes ... according to gamer votes! th-cam.com/video/fpeKssqt5Qo/w-d-xo.html and that's only games for PS1, 5th best selling console (third, if you don't count handhelds). 1st is PS2 (SNES is 14th). Top 100 PS2 Games According To Metacritic...in 10 Minutes th-cam.com/video/VjUsBUBLrvU/w-d-xo.html And i like some games on SNES, has that system, even today occasionally play games on zSNES emu, but seriously, PS2 had the best games.
Lost Vikings was a big surprise. I was young so I thought it was a platformer game from the box. Then I was like wow this is different and fun. Star fox was fun at the time but it's aged so poorly I won't touch it
One of my favorite games on this list is the Mega Man X3, not only for being a great game, but for the soundtrack that accompanies the game that is excellent.
For all the people asking about Terranigma: you should know that Terranigma never received a North American release and was only available in Europe/Japan. The list presented in this video was created by website IGN which is very US centric and thus they probably had never heard of Terranigma.
Every single donkey kong country is better than Super Mario World, and I fucking love Super Mario World. MAYBE SMW is tied with the 3rd kong game. I'd rank DK2 best, then DK3, followed by DK1
I live in North America and I have heard of Terranigma and played it alot on an emulator so I don't get why they wouldn't have. They even put Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaïa.... And to not include Tales of Phantasia in a SNES top 100..... They are either morons or they didn't care about any game that didn't make it to the USA. Wouldn't be surprised at all if it was the later.
Thank you, I've never heard of this game until you mentioned it. I just saw a couple video reviews and I"m amazed that this gem has remained so overlooked. I'm going back to play all the great JRPGs from SNES since I never got the chance as a kid, and I'm definitely adding this to the list now.
There are people that only play games with good graphics, or in new consoles, but I personally like the old games like these because the story, the songs, the gameplay, the programming, etc., many others things that make me to feel the nostalgia.
My list: 1 - Super Metroid 2 - Super Mario World 3 - Donkey Kong Country 2 4 - Mega Man X 5 - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 6 - Chrono Trigger 7 - Donkey Kong Country 8 - Goof Troop 9 - Donkey Kong Country 3 10 - The Mask 11 - Disney's Aladdin 12 - Sunset Riders 13 - Top Gear 14 - Super Ghouls'n Ghosts 15 - Tom and Jerry 16 - The Lion King 17 - Castlevania: Dracula X 18 - Magical Quest 3 19 - Prince of Persia 20 - Star Fox 21 - Doom Troopers 22 - Blackthorne 23 - Demon's Crest 24 - X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse 25 - Flashback 26 - Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars 27 - Prehistorik Man 28 - Super Mario All-Stars 29 - Earthworm Jim 30 - Nosferatu

Man ..when street fighter came on snes it was ON!! everybody would be at the house smashing each other up...From game geeks to heroin dealers and crack addicts crazy!!
Roughman123 loved that game and i agree with ya. but there's a lot of people that never heard of nor played it. It's definitely one of the more underrated games of the SNES era
So many great games on the consoles back then. Super Ghouls N Ghosts was a favourite of mine, so was Zombies Ate My Neighbours and The Lost Vikings. I had The Legend of The Mystical Ninja but never could remember the name of it. I remember playing that with my dad late at night.
Best SNES games include (in my opinion): The Final Fantasy games. Doom. TMNT Tournament Fighters. TMNT IV:Turtles in Time. Universal Soldier. (My opinion, I thought it was bad but I was wrong XD. Even for a cancelled prototype it's good) Rendering Ranger R2. (A really good Japanese exclusive with graphics that looks better than all Genesis games) Super Turrican 1&2. Super Back to the Future II. Phalanx. Axelay. Prince of Persia 1&2. The Super Star Wars games. Earthworm Jim 1&2. Earthbound. U.N. Squadron. Space Megaforce. BioMetal. The R-Type games. Gradius III. RoboCop Versus The Terminator. B.O.B. Star Fox 1&2. ActRaiser 1&2. Super Double Dragon. Rival Turf. The Mortal Kombat games. The Street Fighter games. The Death And Return of Superman. True Lies. Batman Returns. Disney's Aladdin. Secret of Evermore. Stunt Race FX. Mega Man X 1&2&3. Saturday Night Slam Masters. Sunset Riders. And many more.
Overall, the list contains the most important games. And the top 12 or so are pretty accurate. But there are some major problems with the order of some of the lower games. Still, it includes the important stuff, so good work!
Remember seeing mode 7 rotation on snes games years ago still looks impressive on some games after all the years gone by f zero still looks good and plays great
Same here. 35 years old. Played most of these and reconnected with them lately. So much more fun than most of the crap AAA companies churn out these days. My 5 year old son loves the SNES too.
What filter or shader did you use ? The games look really good in your video. Way better than some other videos with no postprocessing. I have been pretty happy with various "crt" shaders but yours look even better than those I tried. On another topic I am surprised that Final Fight is only # 100, for me it was the sign that Arcade was finalling coming at home (and then I discovered the Neo Geo and cried :D )
the turn-based rpg genre is a bit over-represented here also Donkey Kong Country should have been way higher (28th place as it is), ign even says it saved the console and then they put 2 Tetris games over it? personal taste transpired a bit too much in this
RPG's are my favorite game franchise (particularly the turn based ones) but I agree there are too many on the SNES and not even that many good ones (in my opinion) Donkey Kong does deserve to be far higher.
Best of's, top anything are always full of bias. They merely reflect the poster's tastes and preferrences. I definitely agree with the majority of the games presented here but I don't see "positions" in that top 100. To me, there is no order in this vid since it would be virtually impossible to accurately and objectively rank them.
I'll never forget being able to go to the local rental place and pick out one of these games and have your best friend stay over and couch co-op all night long.
this is rad. so many good games. genesis and snes can't be compared, two different consoles with a whole different style of gaming and gamers. it's great to have both worlds
Una nostalgia tremenda. Los mejores momentos de mi vida fueron junto a mis amigos jugando una y otra vez estas maravillas de SNES. Chrono Trigger me cambió la vida. Gracias Snes por tantas horas de felicidad.
All these games = fond childhood memories . Nintendo had so many quality games . The 90s was the golden age of gaming. Damnit makes me want to hunt down a snes now .I do have Roms but it's not the same . ... Btw Eye of the beholder was one of the greatest rpgs released for SNES.
Ooo...I dunno. I know lots of Sega owners who might disagree with that. :) In my mind, they were both solid consoles - and if you had both, you were a lucky kid. Check out th-cam.com/video/yh2NR7dHc1I/w-d-xo.html
Tormund Giants Bane nobody ever acknowledges that.even in the 90's people would act like they were the same lol.same thing with ps2 & xbox.ps2 games are darker for some reason while xbox tittles are more clear.not by far but i noticed.
I want to refresh my memory on how exactly we save the game back then? Are there memory card for Snes/Genesis? If we play game like Final Fantasy or Phantasy Star how do we save? Apologies for my bad english
I think you missed: - Megaman 7 - Rockman & Forte (Megaman 9) - Castlevania Dracula X - Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems - Captain Commando - Blues Brothers - The Mask - Spawn - Ninja Gaiden Trilogy - Knights of the Round - Top Gear 3000 - Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
@@maximillianosaben no one liked it. It’s an awful game. And I was, and am, a huge Simpson fan. Just downloaded the rom, and it’s almost unplayable. It’s so bad. Matt Groening should have gotten some quality control on all the Simpsons console games. All trash until Hit n Run. They should have ported the arcade game. I could go on 😂😂
Speaking of owning a treasure. Well, for some. It does frustrate me though that Nintendo is unwilling/incompetent to provide a plug&play "console" with a complete or as close to as possible game library. I am aware of the multitude of licencing issues. But there's money in it. -After 20-30 years i'd guess, license issues might as well are not the most glaring problems. Sure, i could look up emulators and run it on pc. But the magic and charme is go sit relaxed on your couch, hit up your console and start playing. No patching, no advertisement...
Glad to see there aren’t many people bickering about the list. I’ve played 7 of the top 10 and generally agree with the rankings. IGN had some pretty reliable lists that I’ve used as sources for choosing what games I buy
Guys I need help, I'm looking for a SNES game that I played as a kid but I can't remember what its called. You play as a robot and his attacks are throwing wrenches, and every time you took damage you lost a body part (arms, legs).
this was the golden age of videogame... too much legend, great game born in this era... my biggest favs.: FF Chrono Trigger Turrican Metroid Mario & rpg Ghost n Goblins Contra MK YS Star Ocean Zelda Final Fight Street Fightdouble Dragon Batman TNMT Doom Doom Troopers Megaman Maximum Carnage Smash TV Killer instic Illusion of Gaia Tales of.. Children of.. R-type and Gladius
I never owed super metroid but when my friend lent it to me it was my top 10. Never bought it. I hated RPG games because of dragon warrior and final fantasy, then I played secret of mana and it became one of my favorites of SNES. Yes Zelda is top 5. I am actually playing it now because i never knew how to get the magic Cape. Had to watch walkthroughs on TH-cam. 😅
My uncle introduced me to the SNES. Mortal Kombat series, Street Fighter series, Madden series, Batman series, WWE Raw Is Wars, the title just go on 'n on.... My four favorites are Donkey Kong Country, Vegas Stakes, Super Mario Kart, and WWF Raw Is War.
I was waiting for The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past to show up and was glad to finally see it at #1. That was the best game ever on SNES. I remember I got so good at it, I would time myself to see how fast I could beat it grabbing all of the items, heart pieces, etc, AND without dying once. 100% game took me 3 hr 54 min. I loved this game!

Also that list is wrong, Chrono Trigger is way better than Zelda
+Dusty Pixel Retro Gameplay well, thank you for your effort. I am sure other viewers will appreciate it. :)
Even though this is a IGN list, it's super cool that it's video footage only instead of poor writing. Actually seeing footage of each game, albeit very briefly, is still much better than writing. Great video, thanks.

+chris twoodyhussar Actually, it was IGN's selection. I just made this video based on their list.
you can actually still play all these games...on your Super Nintendo
Considering that many RPG/turn based games made into the list, I'm surprised _Tales of Phantasia_ didn't make it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh man u just sent me back like 28 years.....when there was nothing in my mind to worry about, no wife no kids, no work just coins and pizza 😥
@Danielle Smith wtf is wrong with you
@Danielle Smith ok
@Danielle Smith lmao keep talking that shit to people and I'll leak your ip
Get a wife who likes pizza and loves gaming- still have all my old consoles my husband and I play all the time.
lol and now we're feeling nostalgic for times before the corona virus!
Most of my childhood memories are when I was too young to play these games by myself. I loved to watch for hours my big brother playing these for me.
I love you Brother
Man, I must've be played at least 90 games from this list... Good old days.
Me too Bro lol
same, goold ol 2010s
Who else is embracing nostalgia during lockdown? ✌️
I've recently played super mario world and mario 64 😂
Hound Pound Mario 64! I remember just how frustrating it was to race against that big ass blue penguin 🐧 haha #nostalgia
Picked up a free Crt Trinitron tv and have been playing SNES and other retros the whole time. Comfort food. Lol
silkk2117 awesome 😎 what’s your favorite SNES game of all time?
@@HungLeEntrepreneur Chrono Trigger has got to be the best of all time? What is yours?
Red Dead Redemption is just a Sunset Riders remake
Lol
We’re coming for you Rockstar -_-
SNES is probably the best console. It has such a variety of absolutely fantastic games and the visuals are tolerable and still had that classic “retro” vibe I love!!
@KT you talk nonsense..compare snes and p1..perhaps ps 5 ha ha..
Here is retro fun what are doing here?
@KT old systems such as snes and so forth paved the way for Play station consoles. Everyone has their own go to bag of personal nostalgia, but regardless of what you prefer, The oldies paved the way and will always be the true originals of the game world
What good games even came out for ps5? Aside from Rdr2 what's the last good game?skyrim in 2011? Maybe TLOU
@@tobe1207 there's been a couple good remakes on PS5, and Ragnarok is a pretty good exclusive.. but thats about it. No classics yet, but FFXVI looks like it might be absolutely killer.
And PSVR2 is pretty insane..
@@tobe1207 and btw there's so many 9/10 games that have came out other than Skyrim and rdr2.
Elden Ring? Nah?
This list is spot on. The whole time I was watching, I was just waiting to see if Link to the Past was first and Chrono Trigger was second - perfect.
same here,
I was lucky enough to have played almost all of this games on a snes console on my childhood.
Never understood the popularity of starfox though.
hardly:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_game_consoles
and even games for PS1 were better:

th-cam.com/video/fpeKssqt5Qo/w-d-xo.html
and that's only games for PS1, 5th best selling console (third, if you don't count handhelds). 1st is PS2 (SNES is 14th).

th-cam.com/video/VjUsBUBLrvU/w-d-xo.html
And i like some games on SNES, has that system, even today occasionally play games on zSNES emu, but seriously, PS2 had the best games.
Lost Vikings was a big surprise. I was young so I thought it was a platformer game from the box. Then I was like wow this is different and fun. Star fox was fun at the time but it's aged so poorly I won't touch it
Dude you hit the nail on the head on that one lol.
Sega Genesis is better and the PC Engine? Best console of the 90's is the Sega Dreamcast?
Greatest console of all time. The nostalgia just pours from this video.
One of my favorite games on this list is the Mega Man X3, not only for being a great game, but for the soundtrack that accompanies the game that is excellent.
She made a lot of great soundtracks.
It does not say the best snes games that made it to US ONLY does it?
Kirby super stay is waaaay too low
God.... this was and still is my life.. I started on the Atari 2600, I continued on the wonderful NES and then SNES and beyond.
There are people that only play games with good graphics, or in new consoles, but I personally like the old games like these because the story, the songs, the gameplay, the programming, etc., many others things that make me to feel the nostalgia.
big facts, gustave 💪
Apart from Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy... The storylines on these old games are terrible
the Donkey Kong games are the best jump'n runs on SNES in my opinion..with the two player mode..was really a lot of fun
“Jump’n runs” dude do you mean a platformer? Lmao
@GermanAnimeFans You have more variety in gameplay in the Donkey Kong games, what are you talking about?
@GermanAnimeFans Well, all the animals you could ride make a lot of variety
Very nicely made, man. Brings back a lot of great memories!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Nostalgia... I literally travel in time when I watch this.... Thank you for putting this together.

sunset riders at 88th? I would put that in the top 30 easily.
Roughman123 loved that game and i agree with ya. but there's a lot of people that never heard of nor played it. It's definitely one of the more underrated games of the SNES era
I would put that in top 10, and home alone will always be my number one game. That shit give me a super adrenaline rush.
Sunset riders was very popular back in the 90's where i live, it's one of my favourites

So many great games on the consoles back then. Super Ghouls N Ghosts was a favourite of mine, so was Zombies Ate My Neighbours and The Lost Vikings. I had The Legend of The Mystical Ninja but never could remember the name of it. I remember playing that with my dad late at night.
Best SNES games include (in my opinion):
The Final Fantasy games.
Doom.
TMNT Tournament Fighters.
TMNT IV:Turtles in Time.
Universal Soldier. (My opinion, I thought it was bad but I was wrong XD. Even for a cancelled prototype it's good)
Rendering Ranger R2. (A really good Japanese exclusive with graphics that looks better than all Genesis games)

Oh man, I finished like 80 games of these. I'm replaying Chrono Trigger.
Overall, the list contains the most important games. And the top 12 or so are pretty accurate. But there are some major problems with the order of some of the lower games. Still, it includes the important stuff, so good work!
I’ve never played SNES, which is why I’m watching, but it literally looks like games you’d play at the old arcades. I love this
Never? When you born lol?
Remember seeing mode 7 rotation on snes games years ago still looks impressive on some games after all the years gone by f zero still looks good and plays great
Yeah, it looks impressive for 16bit console. Like, almost as if it supported 3d graphics.
My god the amount of nostalgia from seeing some old favorites.
So many memories just hearing the various gameplay snippets...
Wow brings back so many childhood memories...I think I played about 75% of these games
SNES had the best video game collection ever than any other console since then
Where's Bubsy? Battle Toads in Battlemaniacs? Battle toads-Double Dragon?
Oh shitttytt battletoads though.... forgot all about them
where are they? Not on this list as you can see :)
Earthworm Jim has to be one of the most underrated games ever. The whole game is packed with awkward and funny stuff.
it's a well-known cult classic

I agree 1 n 2 r great
It was so popular when it came out.
Childhood memories. Im still playing these games. Gamer for life!!! 42 years old now

Thanks for the hard work. I needed this
the turn-based rpg genre is a bit over-represented here
also Donkey Kong Country should have been way higher (28th place as it is), ign even says it saved the console and then they put 2 Tetris games over it?
personal taste transpired a bit too much in this
RPG's are my favorite game franchise (particularly the turn based ones) but I agree there are too many on the SNES and not even that many good ones (in my opinion) Donkey Kong does deserve to be far higher.
Alexis Dubé facts
To be fair, most "best X of all time" list has a large amount of bias behind them
+Legendary February yeah dk country is my favorite game of all time, yes I said all time lol.
Best of's, top anything are always full of bias. They merely reflect the poster's tastes and preferrences. I definitely agree with the majority of the games presented here but I don't see "positions" in that top 100. To me, there is no order in this vid since it would be virtually impossible to accurately and objectively rank them.
Agree!! Just Secret of Evermore missing

Terranigma?

It does frustrate me though that Nintendo is unwilling/incompetent to provide a plug&play "console" with a complete or as close to as possible game library.
