Lord of arcana one of the best memories of my childhood, the soundtracks are so amazing, especially the music when you were choosing the missions. I work at a video game store, and every time you post videos like this we get a bunch of orders for games that you talk about! It's pretty cool to see the connections :)
Purists will reel from my heresy, but the best thing about PSP games is that they scale so well. Use an emulator to bump up the resolution etc and you often get something that looks marvelous.
I've watched some vids showing the PPSSPP emulator running in higher resolutions, and it's very impressive stuff! Keeping the PSP library live and well
Very true. On my V30 I have everything running at 5X resolution with everything maxed out and hardly get frame drops on most games. Tony Hawk Project 8 in particular looks beautiful.
I was just playing Split/Second on my Xbox One last week, I had no idea it had a PSP port! I was really enjoying the time I put into it. Same goes for Dante's Inferno, though I played that one way back when it came out. Shame we never got the Purgatory game, I would've loved to see how they adapted it!
Couldn't agree more on Dante's Inferno. Very few games have captured Hell as well as that game. The music and imagery alone is reason enough to play through it. A real shame that Visceral Games is defunct now. I also recommend checking out the animated movie about Dante based on the game.
It's amazing what you can do, and how many ways you can play with the Psp, kinda revolutionary for a 2004 console. Also there's a Component-To-Hdmi converter which eases up connectivity with modern tvs
It is crazy to look back to 04/05 and realize how powerful and ahead of it's time the PSP was. I thought the concept was cool and the games looked pretty good but you had to actually play one to truly appreciate it. The jump from DS to the PSP in terms of graphics and audio was quite a large one. It was literally like going from your old PS1 to your brand new PS2. The idea of an analog stick and current gen console quality in your hands was hard to wrap my head around at the time. I quickly took it for granted once I got used to it. It is fun looking back and remembering just how awesome the PSP was. DS did end up redeeming itself with a ton of quality and unique titles but the first couple years were kind of tough. I think some PSP games still stand up well to the 3DS. It is a shame the Vita failed so mightily.
The first time I ever saw a PSP my mind was BLOWN. The Switch to me had incredible graphics for a handheld but it didn't shock me as much as the PSP cause the PSP was the first to have graphics of that quality for a handheld.

Thanks for doing these videos. It's very sad what happened with the PSP in the US. The truth is that Sony created it from the very beginning as the dream console for handheld gamers of old, who wanted high quality games on the go, instead of insulting ports and overly-simplified and short titles. But most people completely missed that, by never even checking it out. Nintendo did the usual with the DS and most gamers just thought Sony did the same thing on a lower scale. (way off). For years, many friends of mine thought the PSP was a weak version of a Playstation 1, and so didn't bother with it.
Great video as always. PSP has great jewels in its catalog, but among those that you mention I'm staying with Tenchu, a franchise that has me crazy! A greeting from Spain!

I found your other PSP videos about a month ago (and subbed, 'cause I realized I'm an adult with her own money, so I can expand my collection the way I've always wanted to growing up. Having someone point me towards hidden gems is nice ^____^). Even though I've always been a PlayStation girl, I never got a chance to try the Sony handhelds except for the PSP--once--on a flight to Iceland. I absolutely fell in love with the system, but I never thought to get one for myself...until now! Thank you for reminding me how amazing it is
Phantasy Star Portable 1 + 2 are my fave games for the system, maybe considered hidden gems too as not many people picked them up. Also best racer has gotta be Ridge Racer, this is perfect for on the go racing action.
I sold my PSP Go years ago, always regretted that decision so when the Vita released i got that asap to play PSP games again. Nowadays i use a switch to play PSP games. There is something about PSP that makes me go back to those games again and again
And I know this list is hidden gems but you have a ton of racing games up here so id like to say Midnight club 3:dub edition is the best racing game on the PSP
yodagamer1 several UMD games are more expensive than their digital counterparts nowadays plus it’s easier to buy the games anyway it’s there for PSP, PS TV and Vita as well
Its sad when people say "Dante's Inferno is a God of Wars's clone..." Its like to say that EVERY RPG GAME is Dragon Quest's clone. The button scheme is the same, ok, but storie, lore, weapons, upgrades, songs, theme and everything else has nothing releated with God of War series.
I love the Psp it's the ultimate portable,it's light, has comfortable controls it's a truly portable device, big screen and a big library of games not to mention the psp minis too, to choose from and you can retro emulate it as well all in all i just love it,and still use it till this day!
I think a great hidden gem is Digimon World Re:Digitize, it was released in Japan only BUT there was a fan translation by Operation Decoded. I was part of the group who translated it, so maybe I'm a bit biased, but it's a good spiritual successor to the Digimon World game on PS1 and there's a lot of fun to be had.
Can agree, Ace Combat for PSP is one of the best Ace Combat games I've played. I especially liked trying to kill everything on one of the missions before the time expired. I played this in a field op in a Marine Amphibious Assault Vehicle in 29 Palms. We were training to hide from a real military drone. I have a picture somewhere of me standing next to my vehicle after I ripped and tore bushes and covered my vehicle. Didn't help since the drone had thermals but it was fun. We ended up getting "killed" cause they found us. Talk about fun, both the game and real life was fun.
I like that Atlus gives a free download of Yggdra Union with Knights in the Nightmare. Yggdra Union is an AMAZING Strategy rpg and a hidden gem in its own right. I just wanted to once again thank you for the azmazing content, even when its for systems I barely collect for. You give the best of all worlds. Also, shoutout to Reggie for mentioning Anima on PS4 in a pickups vid ages ago. I've recently started playing it, I'm at the first boss and I've been loving it so far!
All I heard was mix between Final Fantasy and Golden Sun, and I got HYPE. Love your videos, I've been playing my vita, nd have a lot of psp titles downloaded on there. You've helped me find some great ones.
So i played Blade Dancer as a kid. Loved it to death but couldn't remember its name till i happened across your video. Now I can go get it again. Thanks my dude!

Nice throw back to the Mighty PSP! I still enjoy this awesome handheld. Knights in the Nightmare is a really choice title.
Did not know Split second had a PSP version. That game was great but it was missing more of its story
12:49 Not on the original PSP (1000) though. Unfortunately there is no video out on this model.
Lord of Arcana have a sequel only in Japan: Is called Lords of Apocalypse.
Really?! Had no idea. Thanks!
Jeff Criss dub edition on psp made it to greatest hits, so not exactly hidden, though the port of Midnight Club Los Angeles might be obscure.
PSP hidden gems!! More old school Metal Jesus and I absolutely love it!!
1-Buy PS TV
2-Buy digital PSP games
3-Now you can play PSP with a controller on TV
Best thing Sony did❗️
Or if you have a decent PC and a modded psp just rip the iso of the often cheaper umd, then play it with improved graphics on ppsspp
yodagamer1 several UMD games are more expensive than their digital counterparts nowadays plus it’s easier to buy the games anyway it’s there for PSP, PS TV and Vita as well
J I said often not all lol, I just like physical copies more than digital.
@@SpJrD or roms. Dont have money for old games! Neither for New games.....
I only trust the metal Jesus for the gems. He knows his STUFF. I've been watching you since you began here on the Tube.
Lmao.
I had Juiced 2 for the DS and is one of my all time favorite racing games. Definitely have to pick it up for the psp.
The PSP is an acronym for Portable Sony Playstation and also Pancakes Served w Peanut Butter. Which is why I love it so much.
I think its PlayStation Portable.
Slanted Enchanted You're right! Everything is falling apart and I just want pancakes
Mr. Bigglesworth OK MR BIGGLESWORTH
Retro Game Players try Nutella is better than peanut butter.
>Slanted Enchanted You're right! Everything is falling apart and I just want pancakes
so random and quirky XD
Great vid bro thanks!
Its not a clone its a bad rip off, does that make you feel better?
I liked Dante's inferno
@@mrpimpekman it's way better than the gows in psp
@@mrpimpekman if dante's inferno is a rip off of god of war then god of war is a rip off of devil may cry
I love the Psp it's the ultimate portable,it's light, has comfortable controls it's a truly portable device, big screen and a big library of games not to mention the psp minis too, to choose from and you can retro emulate it as well all in all i just love it,and still use it till this day!
Facts And It has a better catalogue of games than the modern day nintndo switch
I think a great hidden gem is Digimon World Re:Digitize, it was released in Japan only BUT there was a fan translation by Operation Decoded. I was part of the group who translated it, so maybe I'm a bit biased, but it's a good spiritual successor to the Digimon World game on PS1 and there's a lot of fun to be had.
Super Sword Gaming Can't help but assume mjr will only include things he can put on his shelf.
True, but you can run the patch from the actual disc if I remember correctly. So you could use physical media :o
Can you do a Vita hidden gems video?
I like that Atlus gives a free download of Yggdra Union with Knights in the Nightmare. Yggdra Union is an AMAZING Strategy rpg and a hidden gem in its own right. I just wanted to once again thank you for the azmazing content, even when its for systems I barely collect for. You give the best of all worlds. Also, shoutout to Reggie for mentioning Anima on PS4 in a pickups vid ages ago. I've recently started playing it, I'm at the first boss and I've been loving it so far!
What about "Undead Knights" and "Dungeon Maker: Hunting Grounds" and "Infected"
I see you love zombie action games
Dude, I really liked Split Second! Can't believe I played a hidden gem before it appeared on one of your videos.
Anyone watching in quarantine 😂
Whats up pandemic peoples??
I take my PSP on my business trip flights and get stares as to what I’m playing. Love this system!
Where is reggie he must be on this video but still great video thanks man :)
All I heard was mix between Final Fantasy and Golden Sun, and I got HYPE. Love your videos, I've been playing my vita, nd have a lot of psp titles downloaded on there. You've helped me find some great ones.
Another PSP Hidden gem: Dj Max Portable 2
So i played Blade Dancer as a kid. Loved it to death but couldn't remember its name till i happened across your video. Now I can go get it again. Thanks my dude!
Knights in the Nightmare MIGHT look somewhat confusing? LOL. It is very confusing.
It is incredibly confusing. And I mean, most of the Depth Heavens games are a bit hard to get in, but this one takes it to a whole new level.
Crazy confusing
But it's soundtrack. Oh god it's too soothing and beautiful, especially the chick with a crossbow theme.
Still very nostalgic for my ears.
0:40 That looks a lot like a C8 Corvette! Predicted the future!
It's a camero that's why 😅
10:15 slowest run in rpg ever xD
I loved Blade Dancer but goddamit if it doesn't take two years to cross a single map.
no one ever mentions the PSP game Crush on these lists, and its a real shame since its one of the coolest games on the platform
That is a pretty cool game. Did you know it got a 3DS version?
@@MetalJesusRocks i did know that! the 3ds version is pretty cool in its own way, but i generally prefer the psp version for its art style and story
Why is everyone forgetting dark mirror or the name similar to that...
Both Syphon Filter games on PSP are really great! I still replay them occasionally.
I agree! And Logan's Shadow! Online multiplayer was fun too
Juiced 2 was my favorite game when I was a kid. Great video as always MJR.
2019 anyone? Pandora’s battery and magic memory stick anyone ? :D
2020 baby!
awesome, I love my PSP and it's great to find games I didn't know about
*I love me some metaljesus*
Hey mjr greetings from Australia. Juiced 2 so much fun. I am new to psp collecting but already love the system.
Is it worth buying a PSP in 2018? I never had one. So should I find one and pick it up?
ItsNoahScott yes.
ItsNoahScott yes.....get a good charger n battery n memory stick.....u can put music games n videos on it plus they have really good games. Legit one of the best/underrated handheldz I love the PSP....Google n utube PSP related content :)....oohhh n get the slim one...Itz better imho
ItsNoahScott - Definitely!!
For the small investment it would be I'd say so. Even if you don't come across any psp games you like, it's easy enough to load up a few emulators and have it as a portable retro game handheld.
Pick up a 3000 series as it’s lighter better screen and loads games faster
I love this system so much, i have been scooping games up left and right i love them
