Thank you for posting this I just changed mine, the only thing I would like to add to your video is when you are taking the actual switch out there is a clip underneath that I used a flat head screw driver to push down on and was then able to get it out.
Thanks for your feedback. I don't remember the clip on the bottom of the switch and may have gotten the switch out just by wiggling. Looking at the switch, I do see a place for a clip. Thank you for pointing it out. I'll pin your comment so it will help others.
I’m glad the video was helpful. You can probably use the workaround for a very long time but it is somewhat rewarding to replace the switch. Good luck!
We just bought a 2013 Mazda CX-5 and didn't notice this issue right away although it happened intermittently after the warranty timeframe. I bought a new switch (under $20) and replaced it after watching your video which was super helpful. It took about an hour and worked as expected. The switch replaced was more of a rubber material and worn. The new switch is all plastic and believe this will completely resolve the issue going forward. Thx.
@@gtamamii I got the part from Amazon. Mazda shifter switch: KDY0-46-040 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0763ZQRB8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Thank you so much This issue has been driving me absolutely nuts! Having to turn the car on and off or try to get the shifter to where it recognizes! I had no idea what was going on but when I googled the problem it led me immediately to your video, and the whole holding the shift knob to the left, I thought, "no way that's going to work!" BUT IT DID!!! 🤯 Will that keep working if I don't address the issue? Your video was so great I'm sure I could tackle it. Just not sure that I want to! Lol
I’m having a total break down I have a 2020 Mazda and I need help badly where can I buy this part at in stores? 😭like it’s just not working not even side to side :(
Sorry to hear about your breakdown. Probably best to take your car to a service shop. The part that I used was for a 2013-2014 model year car. Good luck
Hey, Thanks. Your video helped me replace t he switch. But after completing this switch replacement I noticed that the amber light flashes on the start button. I don't know if it is related but it wasn't flashing before I replaced the switch. Did you notice anything similar to this happening?
Sorry, I did not have a problem the amber light flashing. The owner's manual says that a flashing amber light may indicate a problem that may cause the engine not to start or go into accessory mode. I would probably try to see if there is a problem with the new switch unit by putting the old switch unit back to see if the problem goes away. Good luck!
Sir, changing KDY0-46-040 is expected to fix P mode when turned off. But i have two more issues: Radio doesnt turn on at all, and doors doesnt open/close with remote key, as it says key not recognized. Its loosing battery power. Do you have any suggestions ? Thanks a lot and i appreciate it !
There is a clip that you need to press as you pull the connector apart. You should be able to use your finger but you could also try using a small screwdriver to press the clip.
Yes, I think anyone can do it. It's mostly undoing plastic clips in sometimes awkward positions. I don't think you can damage anything. You just need to be careful not to lose the spring. If you really wanted to be conservative, you can practice taking apart the gear shift before you buy the new switch to get a feel for how difficult it is. It is much easier to put back than take apart. Good luck!
Of course. With these things there are types of people. Some people give up when reaching a tough spot, others find ways to make it happen no matter what. It’s just a state of mind.
It's ridiclous to have to do this. 2024 cx5 has a similar problem. No solution that I have found. Mazda must have known about this problem years ago. And should have done this repair free of charge.
I'm sorry to hear that you are having a similar problem with a 2024 CX-5. The Mazda documentation that I read said that the fix only applied to the 2013-2014 models.
That's a really good idea! It makes sense that it would work. The new switch was pretty inexpensive but fixing the old switch is a good way to avoid waste. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@JonWuClimbs ya Amazon in Canada has them for 75 and eBay for 45 but getting some work done on mine and the guys never listen to my instructions that they have to push it into park. If it breaks again I'll buy a new one but for now it works.
OMG thank you! 6 days of WTF with a shop who did electrical accessories to my ignition, battery, CAA twice, bought a trickle charger etc.. wanted me to go to Mazda after he touched it.
Ditto, but then temperatures here in Bahrain reached 45Celcius so the glue melted…. I just drilled a screw into it after removing the rubber….. works a charm!
Really? You replaced the switch and the car stays on in accessory mode? I’m sorry to hear that. However, if the car turns completely off when you push the shifter to the left as you press the on/off button as shown in the video then maybe you can keep doing that. If this workaround does not work for you then the problem is probably not the switch. Also, replacing the switch is the solution from Mazda: mazda.oemdtc.com/665/ignition-does-not-turn-off-when-pressing-startstop-button-2013-2014-mazda

Wow holding it to the left worked on the first try! Thank you so much I was tired of replacing my battery

Thanks for sharing the video. I did change the part and now radio is turning off 100% of the time. You explain very good!

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this, you just saved me so much money and it didn't take long at all!
I'm glad it helped. Thanks for your comment.
Thank you! As I could turn the car off when turning the car to the left. Should I still get another shifter?
Thanks man, BTW your a legend for replying to all these comments also. Thanks for being cool.
Gratitude for sharing this video. How much did everything cost roughly? im going to have to do it myself & gratitude

Disconnect and connect the battery just to lock it it won't fix the problem but atleast your doors ate locked when your not home
Thank you! I’m excited to save some money and do this myself!
It is pretty easy and rewarding to do. Good luck!
Thank you so much.
push what to the left?? the wheels???
Push the gear shift to the left when in the park position and then turn off the car.
You skipped over the hardest part of disconnecting the electrical. How did you do it??

Fan. Tastic! Will be trying this soon on the wife's Mazda.
I entered that part number and it didnt pop upp
KDY0-46-040 still comes up for me on Amazon. You could also try Google. Good luck!
