I’m really feeling much better the more I get into Whole Food Plant-Based cooking and eating. I’ve been chronically ill for years. However, since the very inception of my diet change my illnesses are dropping off. The very first thing that fell by the wayside was Diabetes and the most difficult things to change are high blood pressure and pain; but they are gradually getting better. I watch and enjoy your channel especially seeing a young woman with a vibrant spiritual life. That puts the icing on the cake for me. By the way I am a 74 year old black woman. May God continue to bless you and your family. I love it your husband is in your videos. It’s wonderful seeing you guys interact with one another. When God is in the center of your marriage, true, pure love is exuded. 🙏🏼❤️

Great to see that Shakayla is back but no need to apologise for taking a break because everyone needs to take a rest. Good to hear that Brandon is joining Shakayla eating the same way as his wife. Love 🥰 the video and love 💕 Shakayla & ❤ Brandon.
I always love your videos but I just want to say the thing I love the most is when you always call your husband so affectionately. Like literally every time you mention him with an endearing name. That is so so sweet to me 🥰
OK, my family is 🇯🇲 and I've learned how to cook rice by allowing the water to come to a boil WITHOUT a cover. Just as the water has almost evaporated (like the rice is soggy but you can't visibly see the water pooled at the bottom anymore), THEN you cover it, put the fire on the lowest heat/flame and let it 'steam' the rest of the way. Perfect rice everytime. When we are doing our rice and peas, sometimes we even place a plastic bag or sheet of foil between the pot and pan lid to lock in all that steam. The steam does the work. Hope this helps!
As a fellow Jamaican I agree that perfect rice, quinoa, bulgar and honestly any grain you’re cooking comes out perfect everytime !! Steam and low heat is your friend for the grains 🫶🏽
The rice cooker is worth it. 3 cups of rice, 6 cups of water and it does the rest of the work. Lets me know when it’s done, and I have rice for the whole week. The best investment. I love your videos! Thank you for being an inspiration!
Your meals are not complicated. Not everything needs to be over the top. For me it needs to be easy and attainable. Congratulations Brandon on your journey
I went to an Indian cooking class taught by Chef Sri Rao and Chef Rao taught us to make rice and it comes out perfect every time with no boiling over! He told us to turn the stove on high heat and bring the water to a boil. Once the water starts boiling add in the rice and boil for 5 minutes. After the 5 minute mark, turn the heat to low and allow it to steam the rest of the way. He said this is how Indian chefs/cooks get the perfect rice every time. I can attest that it works!
I never put a top on my rice until it’s almost done I don’t cook it all the way about 90% then take off the eye put top let stand for 10 mins ❤ I do have a rice cooker but for some reason I have to baby that as well because it shuts off but still tends to over cook it but I’m from the south so will eat it anyway hopes this helps

I always cook my rice in the microwave. No overcooking, no cleaning. I wash it and fill it in a microwavable glass container (high enough) and then 20 minutes in for 250g of rice. :)

I rinse it over 5xs or until the water is clear. Pop it in rice cooker and no worries. I haven’t perfected brown rice rice cooker method yet and I do cook my brown rice on the stovetop

For the rice, when it starts boiling, you reduce the heat to simmer or low and let it finish cooking. It shouldn’t bubble over. It might take a bit longer to cook, but it works! i used to have that problem all the time too until I actually read the cooking instuction on the back of the rice bag haha
Love the recipes. To cook the rice without making a mess, you can put on medium-low heat for 13 mins with the lid on, turn the heat off and let it rest for another 13 mins, the rice is gonna continue cooking without the heat and absorb the water.
Great video. When cooking rice once it starts boiling make sure you turn the heat low and let it simmer slowly and cover the pan. I have never had the problem of it overflowing a
Welcome back and Happy Belated Birthday! Glad you took a much needed break. I recently subscribed to your channel and love your content, it’s so inspiring. Keep doing what you’re doing! ❤

I add frozen or fresh blue berries to my Kombucha and it tastes amazing ❤and I love your videos and thank you so much and I’ve been thinking about doing the whole food plant based diet 😊❤
I love my instant pot for rice and other recipes. But I know what you mean about the water bubbling up even when you turn to low. I think it's just too hot that the low setting isn't enough to bring it down. So I put the setting at the lowest end of high to just get the boil started before bringing to low and covering. This keeps the temp in check. Hope this helps!
@@Shakaylafelice this how I make all my rice whether plain, rice & peas, sticky rice, yellow rice, arroz can gandules, etc. 😂😅 just use the knuckle method to gauge the water amount and put it on the rice setting

I struggle to make rice in a pot but love having an instant pot for rice cooking, steel cut oat cooking, slow cooking, pressure cooking! I’m on my second one bc my husband dropped and broke the lid on my first.
I love love love your videos. I always make my rice in the instant pot, white Jasmine rice 3 mins on high pressure 10 mins Natural pressure release. Brown rice 22 mins on high pressure then 10 mins natural pressure release. Water is 1:1 ratio. Hits every time.

Glad to see you back. I cook my brown rice like pasta. I boil the water first with the lid on, then take the lid off and add the rice. Welcome back! 🎉 For the rice, you can add rice to a pot and then pour enough water to cover it and a thumb nail more. Then cook on low (covered) until water is absorbed (with no stirring). Once the water evaporated, leave the pot covered for a few minutes with the heat off 😊
I’ve been a kombucha hater since the early 2000s, like 10 toes down HATER, but… I tried it with the coconut water and I was too stunned to speak. I did the mystic mango and it was actually good! Thank you so much for the suggestion, cause I struggle with getting the fermented foods in!
I've been cooking rice for years, after rinsing the rice add to the pot then add water, cook uncover on med heat once the rice boils down to where you barely see the water turn off the heat and cover. The rice will then stream, when it's dry and done fluff and eat. Do not stir the rice while cooking if it clumps just give the pot a good shake. Good luck❤

Hi shakayla Varsha Rao here. I realised I've never introduced myself although I've been following your channel since many years 😆. I love love love your videos and I know this might sound a little wierd (or not) but I like your hand gestures when you talk 😍❤. I just had a small tip for yhe question you had about water over flowing while cooking rice- just put a wooden spoon right in the middle of the pot. Like both the ends sitting on either sides of the pot. That stops the water from over flowing. But being an indian i cant stress enough how awesome it is to make rice in aninstant pot or a rice cooker 😍. In india people have stainless steel or aluminum pressure cookers and that too of different shapes and sizes cuz we eat so much rice 🙈rice is life! Anyways just wanted to come here and say hello 👋 and keep those amazing creative videos coming❤🤗
My recipe for cooking rice is to put your rice in the water bring it up a point where you see it’s about to boil gently. At that point turn your heat down as low as possible but you got a simmer going. This part will require you to know your stove. Some electric stoves can put out strong energy and you need to figure out how to control the heat. For gas, this is why I like gas, you can control better. This should help with the overflowing of liquids. But yeah, a rice cooker is a good investment. I just got one. Did you know you can make one pot meals with them? Girl! I put my rice in, a few veggies, tofu and a sauce I made. In 20 minutes I had a meal that was bomb!
I sooo look forward to your videos ❤Thank you. I’ll accept what you give me ….when you give them. Life is precious. Live it at your own rhythm. 🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
🎉Happy Birthday Shakayla!🥳 And congratulations in advance Brandon 🥑😋We are all well and thank you for that broccoli and purple sweet potato recipe. It came out great. I am thinking of lightly steaming the broccoli next time and baking the whole sweet potato to preserve some of the flavors. It was absolutely delicious - as usual. You definitely have a gift❤
Cooking rice is about ratios. 2 parts water to 1 part rice. The second it starts boiling let it go 30 seconds and stir then close with lid and lower the power of the flame to ĺow. Let it continue to cook. And just like that rice is perfect 😊

Best way to make white rice
1 cup of rice, wash it
1.5 cup of water
Bring to the boil with a lid on
Once boiled turned to low and let it steam for 14 minutes
Take off the heat and let it sit for 10 minutes
*chefs kiss*
Thank youuuu!

I always love your videos! That burger bowl looks really good!
Thank you!!
Welcome back!🤗 Great video, Shakayla. Lay a wooden spoon across the pot of whatever you're boiling, and it won't boil over!😊
Great idea!!
Great idea!!
I just use my instant pot for rice. It comes out great to me. Might want to consider it bc you can do more than one function with a instant pot. 😊
Thats a good idea! I have one too and will try using it for my rice
For your rice. Bring the water to a boil then top it and turn on low
Thats what im going to try next time. Boil the water first and then add the rice! Thank you
I was just in target and saw those kimchi pickles. I needed a review before I purchased.
Get them! Mine are almost gone lol
I sooo look forward to your videos ❤Thank you. I’ll accept what you give me ….when you give them. Life is precious. Live it at your own rhythm. 🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

all the food looks great
Thank you!!
Ooo thats a good idea!!! Im glad you enjoyed
You are GLOWING!!!!! Your hair is so cute too!!! 😍🫶🏾
Thanks so much boo!!
Cooking rice is about ratios. 2 parts water to 1 part rice. The second it starts boiling let it go 30 seconds and stir then close with lid and lower the power of the flame to ĺow. Let it continue to cook. And just like that rice is perfect 😊
Thanks for the tips!
Good to see you. Happy Belated Birthday. I am presently doing OK, which could be better. Thanks for sharing delish vegan meal ideas as always
Thank you for the birthday wishes and for being here! I truly hope things get better for you too!

Thank you!! It was a premade stir fry sauce
I’m transitioning to vegetarian so I love your video!
