I mix flax and Chia. I also eat walnuts almost every day. Flax is a fairly good source of Protein also. You can't confuse me. I was already confused. I am a healthy 82 year old just trying to stay that way. Thanks
Same here, 50/50. I buy whole brown flaxseeds (not golden), it’s more powerful, and with chia seeds, I ground them up and store in a small glass jar. Then store the jar in the freezer. Don’t worry, it won’t freeze and will keep the mixture fresh. I use 3 tbsp of the ground seeds before every meal (twice a day), so that’s about 64 grams of fiber everyday. My BP has never been better, 115/65 with resting pulse at 54). I ditched sugar, processed carbs, vegetable and seed oils (use extra virgin olive oil, avocado, or coconut oil instead for cooking and frying). Your heart will thank you.
Colon Hydrotherapist here. If you have slow bowel motility (constipation) be so so careful with the amount of soluble fiber you eat. If too much is eaten, it can basically turn into a thick glue in your colon and makes you more constipated. Start with a tiny amount and eat food that contains a lot of fluid and drink a lot of water as well.
@@ASmith-jn7kfSometimes called a colonic, colon hydrotherapy is introducing water into the colon to help clear the colon of waste to and hydrate the colon…. it’s like a really deep enema.
I noticed my bowels would become harder on Keto which was painful, although I was still going daily. I was having about 1tbs of chia seeds and 1tbs of flax oil in smoothies daily. Along with coconut cream. I tried drinking lots of water thru the day and taking Metamucil and electrolyte supplements. Nothing seemed to help so I stopped keto and my bowels were normal again. Do you have recommendations for how I can get back on keto and keep normal (softer) bowel movements?

@@realestwatchreviews You could experiment with not taking Metamucil or chia and eating a ton of non starchy veggies. Every body has a different microbiome, but it’s supposed to adjust when the diet changes. The gut is amazing and complex- A huge salad with the meat included is a nice way to get the veggies in.
Chia meal pros : Omega 3 rich, antioxidants, fiber, potassium, calcium and magnesium . Chia cons : calorically dense and high in oxalates . Flax meal pros : Omega 3 rich +lowers blood pressure ,fiber , lower oxalates compared to chia .Flax cons : estrogenic mimic, cyanogenic glycosides. Conclusion : Use both sparingly 2 tblspns added to meals . Over consumption of either could lead to intestinal blockage .
The estrogenic mimic is a flawed argument you'd need to consume 10x the normal amount most people eat daily for several years for it to do anything. Body fat produces more estrogen in your body than flax seeds, the more fat the more estrogen gets produce. So it's not a big problem.
I mix 1.5 tbsp of chia and the same amount of ground flax seed in a glass of almond milk to make a great pudding. Add sweetener, cinnamon, and leave in fridge overnight. Eat with a few raspberries or blueberries. Yum!
@@snipesentertainment9037 Smart man- goats milk is good stuff. I like goat cheese with Cranbury= $10 at Wegmans so it's not cheap. Some guys online bash chia seeds. Do you find they help your digestion- or hurt it? Any noticeable differences in how you feel when you eat them? They guy is CarnivoreMD- he says they are BS. He demonstrates by putting them in water and points to the gunky slime that results. Those small clips can be misleading so I rather listen to you since you eat them. I have eaten some in the past and did not notice anything really- good or bad. I think most things in moderation usually works.
This is helpful information. It merits mentioning that ground flax and chia can go rancid if stored at room temperature for long periods of time. Oxidative risk occurs after seeds are ground; therefore, I do not purchase ground flax seeds. Heat and light are particularly detrimental. According to many sources, flax and chia should be freshly ground to maximize the nutritional benefits. I grind a 50/50 blend of whole flax/chia and store it in a sealed container in the refrigerator for no longer a few days. I use two tablespoons in yogurt, keto cereals, smoothies, et al. I store the whole seeds in their original packages inside freezer bags in the freezer. I remove only the amount needed to grind more seeds.
Blurts out "the short answer" to the question at 7:48. Flax is better. Why? Big words. It has the better sentences containing the better big words. But chia is still good.
Wow calm down, dude, it's because of people like you that there are so many charlatans and conmen selling BS information and for the dumbing down of the YT/internet in general

If you are a "chaffle" eater, try one egg, 28gm Kerrygold Dubliner cheddar, 28gm mozzerella, 7gm hemp seed, 7gm ground flax, sprinkle w/ 5 gm sunflower seeds each before closing lid. Make them crispy. They will make you food happy dance.
10g ground flax, mixed with 10g of ground chia, plus a sprinkle of psyllium husk, cinnamon, raw cacao mixed with lots of warm water and topped with healthy sprinkle of choice.... the ideal healthy low carb grain free oatmeal
@Diana H. if you keep it free of almonds and also ensure that it's consumed in the context of a high calcium diet its fine at these small amounts of just 10g. Plus it's paired with psyllium husk which is high in fibre 🙂
Had to total change my diet due to having breast cancer , I started eating flaxseed ,has helped no end with not getting constipation on chemotherapy, I have chia seeds ,but limit them to a few times a week
Just recovered from breast cancer (yay) so thank you for that interesting info in flax and estrogen!👍. I love including flax in my diet for all the reasons you pointed out🥰
Chia seeds all the way. Chia seeds is exceptional in omega 3 and amazingggg for a chia seed pudding with coconut milk. Devine for break-fast or a treat after a meal 🤓 Flax is good to sprinkle but it's omega 6. You can a 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 balance of omega 3 to omega 6, so give chia any day ☺️☺️
I have been eating flax, hemp, and chi seeds every day in my unsweetened apple sauce. I use a coffee bean grinder to grind them. Add 2 tablespoons to my applesauce. Thx for this fascinating analysis of flaxseed and Chia. Even the putative benefits drawn from Chia (reduced inflammation, better glycemic control ....) were in fact due to the deterioration of the biomarkers of the control group, who was fed simple bran. So , for me flaxseed (before lunch: 1 tbsp ground flax with lemon juice in a warm glass of water) is the way to go .Furthermore, one kilogram of nonGMO flaxseed costs less than 2 dollars in Morocco. But Chia also could be very beneficial for specific conditions as shown in this remarkable video.

I grind a 50/50 mix of chia and flax. Store it in the fridge. I’ll add a tablespoon with my low carb yogurt, a few pecans (or walnuts) and berries for breakfast or dessert…five times a week. Helped my satiety, helped weight loss, and lowered my HbA1c. It’s also good for droppin a deuce.
Thank you for this explanation of the effects of the elements and effects of flax and chia. I’ve used both of these in my daily diet for 30 years now. At least now they are much more obtainable in my area of rural Canada, than 30 years ago. I add them to foods such as cereal, hot mostly, don’t eat cold cereal, puddings and to Veg meals etc. I enjoy chia more but just use both because I felt they were both beneficial. After this vid, I have better understanding of each and their effects on my body.

Got me a jar. mixed chia, Flax, Hemp and psyllium. Use in smoothie-style meals. Ingredient examples: cream cheese, pea milk, protein powder, MCT oil, various berries, coffee, 99% chocolate, etc... ingredients vary, spices get added depending what else goes in: fresh ginger and kurkuma are recent favorites, but the jar mix always goes in - just need to keep in mind the consistency since it'll suck a heck of a lot of fluid :D

Chia seeds are high oxalate which is a real problem for many people (most who have not figured that out yet). If you have chronic aches and pains - generalized or localized or shooting pains and changing pain… learn about oxalates. If you lower oxalates remember to do it gradually as suddenly quitting oxalate foods can result in painful - and dangerous for some people - oxalate dumping (detox process).
@@rominahashemii For me any is too much. For someone who has kept oxalate foods low and has no issues a little occasionally is probably fine. I would never (now that Ive learned about chia oxalates/lectins etc) recommend incorporating it regularly for any reason. Just the incidental/accidental potluck amount etc. I think it is a mistake to use it for the good looking protein profile etc due to oxalate levels. I liked chewing them up in a kombucha but after a long break from them… now my body recognizes them as a problem and I get a stomach ache if I try to eat them.
I use 2 tbsp daily in my chia pudding, but even that 15gm is less than half of the daily 37gm used in the bread study (8:30). I wonder what effect the bread making process has on the seed that they had to add that much!! I have long been concerned about the estrogenic possibilities of flaxseed: now that has been 'debunked' I will add 2 tbsp of ground flaxseed to that daily pudding. Can anyone recommend a Azon offering that has ground flaxseed packed in nitrogen? I can not seem to find here in Canada.
I make a cracker with 1/2 (Chia + ground flax: (1/4 chia and 1/4 ground flax)) and 1/2 other seeds. Personally I use pumpkin seeds (1/4), unhulled seasme seeds (ground) (1/8), hemp protein (1/8), sunflower seeds (1/8) and black cumin (ground) (1/8). Add water to consistency of a stiff mortar, and for those who don't know what that is, try 1 cup + a bit of water, mix, wait 10 minutes, spread with the back of a spoon (it will be too gummy to roll directly), and bake 1 hr minus in 325 oven. (Do 30 min on one side, cut into squares, flip and do 20 min on other side). Variable times depending on the oven temp, and just how much water was used. Since I usually do heaping measures and a bit of extra water, this works -- beware, the crackers go from not done to burnt quickly and, if you cool your crackers in a hot, but off, oven, they will continue to cook a bit, possibly becoming burnt (too dry before becoming crispy before being actually burnt -- it's really a continuum as is the level of crispness desired so experiment to taste. Personally, I like the crackers a bit more chewey than crisp. I top a few squares with sardines, tuna salad, cheese, etc. for a great snack. Also other than the chia and flax that serve as the glue for the cracker, other seeds can be used for the other half of the mix.
OOPS -- I forgot the salt -- i/2 tsp per 4 cups of seeds and I gave a fixed amount of water. I was thinking 1/4 of total seeds = 1/2 cup, so for the 1 cup of water, I had 4 cups of seeds, or alternatively the proportion of water is 1/4. Also if using 4 cups seeds total, it fits nicely onto a half sheet baking sheet.
OOPS2 - the proportion of water is 1/2 = and the total seeds was 2 cups, not 4 so it's 1/2 c. chia, 1/2 cup flax, 1/2 cup pumpkin, 2 TBS seasme, 2 TBS black cumin, 2 TBS sunflower, 2TBS hemp protein, 2 TBS hemp seeds, and yes, this is 1 cup + 2 TBS with a bit of emphasis on the hemp. I don't know what I was thinking or, more likely, I wasn't thinking!
Omega 3’s specifically freshly grounded flax seeds and chia seeds helped to reverse the lupus I was diagnosed with in 2021. I still eat the same way, but I think I need to cut back because my BP is usually around 105/65 but has gotten lower. Thank you for all the really cool and informative videos.

Just thought it was worth pointing out that the term Butyrate comes from the word Butter...yet very few people talk about the SCFA benefits of butter. Basically the most pure source. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Also worth brining into the discuss are other forms of short-chain fatty acids like Iso-Butyrate, Iso-Valerate, and Propionate which are found in an abundance of food sources, but mainly animal-based ones. Point being, SCFA can come from a multitude of sources, so if Chia and Flax are not your thing...not to worry.
@MikeMcManus Are you stating that eating real butter is just as beneficial to improving your gut as eating chia or flax seeds? And if so what brand of butter do you recommend? ty
I've read that over 90% of your butyric acid comes from fermentation of fiber in the gut, and the remainder from sources like butter. Even grass fed butter suppliers won't specify the butyric acid content in their prducts. Grass fed butter is superior to grain fed butter for probably a dozen reasons, but I wouldn't eat it it solely for the butyric acid content when we can easily obtain it from soluble fiber.
Flax is an estrogen adaptogen. If you have too much estrogen, it competes with a milder form, and if you have too little, it augments. This can help prevent cancer, among other things. It cannot be considered a “waste of time.”
@@electricescape1190 Estrogen is a necessary hormone with many effects. I'm not an expert, but I know it causes problems if you have too much or too little, and an adaptogen like flax can be helpful (amount needed varies by age, sex, etc.). Healthy skin, for example. There are no shortage of resources on the Internet.
Good video, lots of info, but at 1:40 there's a slight misstep - insoluble fibre does not 'increase' transit time, it DECREASES it. 'Pushing things through the gut faster' means transit time is DECREASED, not 'increased'.

There is almost no difference. You eat 1-2 tablespoons of seeds a day at most so they won't affect you in any case. Phytoestrogens also are much less estrogenic than real estrogens. If estradiol and other estrogens are a problem for you, stay away from dairy, that usually accounts for 70% of the dietary estrogens

Also for blood glucose i use powdered fenugreek, amla and karela (bitter melon) powders, found at Indian markets, where you can also find fresh bitter melons and different forms of amla (Indian Gooseberry fruit) (fresh, frozen). i may add stevia powder to sweeten, especially if i don't use cacao. i may also add garlic & onion powders. walnuts i eat separately at another time. i don't use maca. may add moringa. for my pre-workout drink, i mix myvega.com/products/vega-sport-sugar-free-energizer-1 with beet powder and a powdered vitamin C (Na or Ca Ascorbate) in 16 ounces water.
I think a good question is chia vs basil seeds. Chia and flax are high in phytoestrogens and chia is also high in oxalate and lectins. Basil is low in all of these and has a nutrient profile at least as good as chia, if not better (albeit different).

Both chia and flax are much more usable when ground. However flax contains cyanogenic glycoside, which forms hydrogen cyanide when the seeds are crushed and hit water. You'd have to eat a fair amount to reach toxic levels, but it's worth noting.

Your knowledge and information about this topic is amazing. I enjoy all your videos. I have a question about chia a flax seed. When is the best time of the day to consume it and how?
Here are the key takeaways from the video: - Chia seeds and flax seeds have different types of fiber - chia has more insoluble fiber, while flax has more soluble fiber. This impacts their effects. - Chia seeds can help stabilize blood sugar levels and increase feelings of fullness/satiety. - Flax seeds contain a specific type of soluble fiber called arabinoxylans that is very effective at increasing production of beneficial short-chain fatty acids, especially butyrate. This has anti-inflammatory effects and can improve glucose tolerance and appetite regulation. - The short-chain fatty acids from flax may also have beneficial effects on gene expression and metabolism by inhibiting histone deacetylases. - While there are concerns about flax increasing estrogen, research suggests it may actually decrease the effects of estrogen in the body. - Overall, the transcript indicates that flax seeds may offer more comprehensive health benefits compared to chia seeds, primarily due to their higher content of the beneficial soluble fiber arabinoxylans.
I choose Chia. Both my Mother and Grandmother had Estrogen Dominant Breast cancer and Flax is too risky for me personally. Since Flax has Phytoestrogens, I choose Chia.
@@alissasteffensvocalcoach342 please watch from 13:33 . Flax effectively decreases Oestrogen; the compounds in flax that have an oestrogen-like structure bind to the bodies oestrogen receptors, so they are no longer available to bind with the bodies real oestrogen, the receptors don’t respond to the fake plant oestrogen, so the bodies potential oestrogen response is reduced. Hence reducing the likely occurrence of any ailment triggered by oestrogen.
Not sure if he mentioned this or not, but a lot of TH-camrs fail to mention the REASON why ALA omega 3 conversion is relatively low: OMega 6. You have to look at the ratio of omega omega 6 to omega 3, as they compete for absorption. Flax has a rather good ratio of 3 to 6, and therefore is more beneficial than most plant based omega 3 sources. I get mine as seeds, grind them each morning and toss them into a plain yogurt, aluluse, blueberries, and few almonds and walnuts and sunflower seeds. Sounds like a lot, but it tastes amazing, and kicks my day off nicely.

🤔…….so, in conclusion, chia & flax are beneficial. Consume both.

Colon Hydrotherapist here. If you have slow bowel motility (constipation) be so so careful with the amount of soluble fiber you eat. If too much is eaten, it can basically turn into a thick glue in your colon and makes you more constipated. @@realestwatchreviews You could experiment with not taking Metamucil or chia and eating a ton of non starchy veggies.

How much chia has too much oxalate?
Eat hemp seeds then
@@rominahashemii it’s usually recommended consuming a tablespoon of chia seeds.
Is it ground? soaked?
Adding chili flakes makes them more interesting .

Are you stating that eating real butter is just as beneficial to improving your gut as eating chia or flax seeds? And if so what brand of butter do you recommend? ty
@@dkhnguess No, not close at all
I've read that over 90% of your butyric acid comes from fermentation of fiber in the gut, and the remainder from sources like butter. Even grass fed butter suppliers won't specify the butyric acid content in their prducts. Grass fed butter is superior to grain fed butter for probably a dozen reasons, but I wouldn't eat it it solely for the butyric acid content when we can easily obtain it from soluble fiber.

I love "noatmeal", never added pumpkin to it though. I'm going to have to try that! I usually toss in a handful of blueberries or mix in a tablespoon of peanut butter and a few Lily's chocolate chips. Adding pumpkin and cinnamon sounds amazing! Thanks for the tip.
@@catpatrick3838 I used to use banana but stick with blueberries myself and a little bit of monkfruit. I am surprised how good it all mixed and tastes. I usually add the pumpkin mix, liquid, and vanilla extract get it warm then I will add the 3 seeds. 2 teaspoons of Chia,1 teaspoon of the other seeds. then I add the monkfruit, cinnoman, almond flour, 1 teaspoon, then thicken to likeness. add blueberries. my wife picks fresh blueberries in summer, 25-30 lbs, lasts us pretty much all therest of the year.
I did get the original recipe from a nutritionist from TH-cam video. I will get her name if you are interested.
good eating to you and enjoy your nooatmeal breakfast!
What's wrong with Oatmeal?
I use Old fashion Quaker Oats / not the instant or quick cook oats with all sugar & flavorings...
I also do not add any sugar to my oatmeal, only fruits, nuts & sometimes vegetable or fruit smoothie stirred in....
@@Thankful_n_Grateful nothing is wrong with oatmeal. Oatmeal however sticks in your stomach and bloats most people where the zinc benefits doesn't happen. The breakfast I decided to swap out has more Total nutrients because it gets absorbed more and quickly becomes fuel to last the majority of the morning or until around 1. I drink water in between as much as I can. To each one ok with what you have. Just an option for those who are bloating after oatmeal.
@@David-ve8pk oatmeal doesn’t bloat it in fact does the exact opposite
Your knowledge and information about this topic is amazing. I enjoy all your videos. I have a question about chia a flax seed. When is the best time of the day to consume it and how?
In the morning 😂
Here are the key takeaways from the video:
- Chia seeds and flax seeds have different types of fiber - chia has more insoluble fiber, while flax has more soluble fiber.
Flax also has phytoestrogens which can be an issue related to estrogen dominance which for me makes Chia a better choice for me. Just a thought.
Thought so
I choose Chia. Both my Mother and Grandmother had Estrogen Dominant Breast cancer and Flax is too risky for me personally. Since Flax has Phytoestrogens, I choose Chia.
I think you should look up phytoestrogen. It’s the opposite of what your saying.
I consume ground & soak flax & chia, only eat whole for fun texture on top of salads.
So, which is better?
Dude, that was impressive. Not only is the info great, you are also throwing all this detailed info at us from the top of your head. Props!!!
I've been eating Chia and Flax every single day for years.
And.....

I was just about to post "But isn't flaxseeds estrogenic?" I'll be looking forward to that video on flaxseeds!
Thats why I dont eat flax. I put chia seeds in oatmeal and smoothies
they aren't estrogenic, a food to be estrogenic must cause estrogenic effects in the body, i.e. dairy (estradiol, femenine sexual hormone)
Another vivid and important video from Master Thomas. 🤩
I use flax from time to time but not every day due to the "myth" of flax might influence negatively testosterone. Now, confirmed from Tom I would increase its consumption. 😺🙏
Same! I have been avoiding for this reason
@@brianthornton5836 it boost Libido and increase Testosterone
There’s actually several medical studies that show flax will definitely reduce the levels of testosterone in men. This is why doctors put guys that are at risk for prostatic cancer due to higher levels of testosterone on a flax rich diet. Google scholar has a lot of very good information on this subject.
Finally a video to answer the age old question I have had! Thank you Thomas
Very interesting!! Glad stayed with you till the end of your video!! Flax seeds, Estrogen & breast cancer...good stuff to know.
Please post another video pertaining to this vital info for women. Thank you!!!
Had to replay that part.
Thomas, did you point out that Flax becomes Toxic So Quickly that you need to store Flax Whole Seed Unground in the Fridge and only bring out What you will Be Consuming Each time you do and Then Grind in a designated grinder to not contaminate youre flax and get it fresh Non-Toxic every time. And brush out or clean out your grinder after each use. Of course that means to not Buy any foods containing previously ground Flax. It will be Toxic.
A high ratio of persons may be allergic to flax n flax oil products or items with flax ingredients so have situational awareness of that
I heart chia after it soaks stuff up n adds to taste n texture
I have been looking for the flaxseed estrogen related question for a very long time. It's been so frustrating because of all the contradictions out there. Thank you! I have had to give away so many supplements and food because of not having the correct answers. This information is extremely important to someone that is estrogen dominant.
Im still confused and caught inbetween this.
Which seed is better?
In short: which is better? Which one should be consumed?
Chia or Flax ?
Thanks.
both
Hey, great video...I would like to mention that flax seeds best eaten crushed and MUST be roasted...best takeaway here seems to be to go 50/50 on both.
Why roasted
? (forgot the question mark)
@@dilettanter apparently they're poisonous to some extent unless you roast them and burn off the outer covering. I was making the same mistake till recently too.
@@jagjeetsihra2862 maybe we have to lightly roast flaxseed to kill any fungus?
What color are they raw? If they are brown, aren't they roasted?
Any thoughts on combining things? I've been tweaking on my first meal of the day, usually around 11:00 a.m. It consists of half a cup of rolled oats, one tablespoon of chia seeds, one tablespoon of ground flax seeds, one tablespoon of hemp hearts, a whole (small) sliced banana, half a cup of blueberries, one scoop of Genepro protein powder, 2 Tablespoons of PB fit protein powder, mixed together with one cup of skim milk. This is also when I take my multivitamins and creatine for the day.
May I ask what diet are you on and why skim milk instead of whole milk? I am also curious if you are an athlete or bodybuilder because of the amount of protein powder you are intaking? Thanks!
@@salmanbinhabib9167 No specific diet, just trying to get all the good stuff in my body. Not an athlete or bodybuilder, but really trying to get my fat % down and muscle % up. Skim milk over whole because of the fat content, and personal preference in taste/ texture. The two types of protein powder I mix in are genepro (very clean whey protein with no additives ) that has 11g of protein and two tbsp. of PBfit that only has 7g of protein. The total protein for that meal is 40.54 g. I am also considering switching out the PBfit powder for something a bit cleaner, but I haven't found anything yet. Thanks for reaching out, and i'd love any feedback / advice.
I do kinda Flax oatmeal on days not fasting... I love it because it replaces my want for grains and still Keto.. But I do a mix with equal parts Flax and Hemp Seeds(Hemps has so much protein it is crazy + lot of good Omega's), and 1/3 amount of Chia Seeds. No actual Oats that is just a description for what the texture and looks like. I might add some pumpkin spice which is mostly Cinnamon for flavor with hot mater... It is freaking good. Great for colder winter mornings
I used to mix both together just a little with my greet yogurt and smoothie.
I'd like to know more.
Cooked? Ground?
Every day?
Quantities?
15 minute video and he didn't even cover that? I guess as the title states.... don't waste your time
Only thing I saw was 36g of chia in that one study
@@jakehayes1345 , the wording of "Don't waste your time, " in the video title is confusing, since he does say that both chis and flax are beneficial.
@@marygrott8095 Thanks a lot for letting me know his advice. Good to know...
I just want to know what would help my health.. i.e. what's actionable.
Flax has to be ground for your body to absorb it (if not it'll pass right through). Upto 2 tablespoons a day is good. I personally have uncooked but I hear it's supposedly ok to cook it.
I just mix these two into my oatmeal morning breakfast and I love it!!
I like to add slippery elm to my flax and chia. Occasionally I will also add organic rolled oats, pecans, dried fruit, Allulose, potato starch (resistant starch). My gut microbiome rewards me with plenty of SCFA and healthy bowels. Thanks gut bugs for your service. :).
What is SCFA? Thx
Slippery elm help me so much after a bout of diverticulitis

Chia seeds are high in lectins, these hide in seeds, grains, leaves, bark, and shells. Chia seeds, in particular, are therefore considered to contain lectins. Although humans do not digest lectins, the sticky proteins can sneak into the bloodstream through their intestines.
Love the way you get excited about facts 🥰💚
Increase in transit time means slowing down. speed=distance/time, It is hard to taje someone serious if simple concept is incorrectly presented in the first couple of minutes.
How about taking both? How much would you recommend to take daily?
was so lucky to find this channel again this guy is a beast much power him.
Can you dive into the type of flax seed and benefits? Raw, ripe, roasted, etc.
If you don't grind the seeds, flax will flow right through you, allowing you you not to absorb any benefits. Always grind them first.
