@@gabrielbauer5595 I think what was being pointed out is that this music is in many ways a retro throwback to the '60s. Things like Velvet Underground, MC5, Iggy & The Stooges, and bands I don't know of so well. Oh and Led Zep. Doesn't make it bad, just means it is not exactly new in any clear way. :-)
Jack White is the best. He’s also in The Raconteurs who were a supergroup. They were so good. Nothing for ages from them. Plus his solo stuff is pretty good.
One of the all time great TV performances! So raw, in your face, and unapologetic. I love how they are here promoting White Blood Cells by playing songs from their first two albums!

I agree with you Doug. At seventy years old I've seen and heard all the greats and what sets them apart is style of sound and play and damn Meg has got a sound, style and technique like no other in rock history. I miss her also, but she's made her mark.
Her drumming has an X factor like untrained vocalists who have an X factor (think Bob Dylan or Kurt Cobain). It's raw, it's honest, it's elementary, and it's unique. You can't quite put your finger on it. Meg's got that X factor.
Who would think a duo out of Detroit would dominate Rock for ten years by playing on a kiddie guitar and playing garage rock? Incredible! And I am grateful they came along and basically kept Rock going after the death of Cobain. From 2000 to 2010 they kept it alive.
Almost 40 years ago i started to learn english, and i was absolutely convinced the word "SCREWDRIVER" had to be some metal band name...sounded so badass !
Such amazing raw talent, this shows when trying hard looks effortlessly natural. Never saw before and never really went to earliest works but hot damn am i now enroute.
people used to shit on meg white's drumming for being "basic" or "uninspired" but goddamn she knows exactly how to complement every single track with her energy to bring it over the edge and if that's not the ideal drummer than I don't know what is
she is a real original. her style is her own, it's primitive but raw and it makes you wanna bash on your belongings to the beat. unique but as good as any drummer. her not having much technical skill ≠ her not being good, and the people who say that don't properly listen to music imo. she's a talent in her own right
Amazing how locked in they were... it's almost like a single player that has 2 separate bodies....or those stories about twins that have ESP with each other
In my estimation, The White Stripes were an anomaly, but not an unprecedented anomaly. I strongly dislike noise rock, but I love The White Stripes and Neil Young's noise rock facet. Raw. I only like it if it's great.

actually they were quite the opposite. Jack's said in interviews that the thing never is truly in tune and there's no truss rod. I've played a couple of old guitars like that and even almost the exact same guitar and they almost always don't feel great but they sure look badass
This band is a dream when they play that way I like it much more than when they are calm, you feel a brutal energy, for anti technical but it is not, they are a great duo thanks for so many years of good music greetings from Colombia.
i love how at the end jack just awakens from his lil trance like "wait when tf did the audience get here?" lmao
Definitely in his own zone

Pretty basic rythms, posture is pretty bad to look at and I don't think she hit the snare once in that entire performance...
