Jack really understood the guitar on a professional and almost primal level. People talk about how he can be sloppy sometimes, or how Meg isn't the greatest drummer, but being clean isn't the point. These two had chemistry, and thats what musicianship ia all about, feelin it.
Rock/Metal was always about exploration and getting dirty. If you don't miss a note here and there, you ain't trying hard enough. Safe = boring. This isn't jazz...
@dannyzuko7182 Any form of music is about really going for it, some of thr greatest Jazz musicians pissed off a lot of people too. The entire genre was once a taboo.
I bought all their albums, but I still used to scour the file sharing networks for live bootlegs. Every performance was different and original, played with first time intensity. They were amazing live in the early 2000s. I saw them at the Greek in 2003 and I’ve never seen a better show.
One day I had this riff in my head for years, and I mean *years* and I didn't know what it was, and then I played it on my guitar and my dad walked into my room and heard it. He was so surprised that I knew how to play and that I knew this song. I told him I didn't, he instantly went onto TH-cam and showed me white stripes. Thank you, dad, love ya
Jimi Hendrix John Frusciante Jack White the greatest guitar players in the order I just discovered coming out of retirement and now having a Time to listen to music and trying to discover new music this guy is a genius
@@stevensetek2567 Check out Rory Gallagher if you haven't yet. Hes on Hendrix's level, and an extremely influencial and creative musician despite never really getting the insane popularity he probably deserved.
hey, im on the other end of the spectrum here! im 14 in a few months and ive loved this band since i was small- great to see a variety of people love them, even in 2020!! 🍬❤
I think this video is from the tour to support the release of Elephant, which is one of the first albums you should be checking out. It’s White Stripes in their prime. I saw them at the Greek in 2004, I lucked into front row seats. It was the best live show I’ve ever seen (narrowly beating Radiohead/Supergrass around the same time). L.A. audiences are usually lame, lukewarm, jaded, but Jack quickly brought them around. I think it’s fair to say that Jack White re-imagined the guitar sound, combining the threads of earlier pioneers and innovators and putting his own spin on it. The sounds the band produced on stage were thick and juicy, raw and beefy, despite the two person line up. The few minimalist songs they did are what you might expect from such a spare line up, but the majority of the music they produced is maximum rock and roll. There’s a documentary featuring White, Jimmy Page, and The Edge (from U2) that might interest you.
Jack White is a genius. I've been a guitar player for 40 years. Jack plays mostly blues scales but heavily distorted. It's his phrasing and timing that's unique. It's out of the box thinking. He reminds me of Jimi Hendrix sometimes, but Jimi never never had the throttle to the floor. I got to see Jack White play at a bar in Lubbock, TX in 2014, and I just stared at him the whole show, trying to understand him -- FAIL. His music is so far ahead of the times; he won't be fully appreciated until he dies -- like most artists. I would love to talk music with him for a weekend.
Thank you for that. It's a beautiful comment, and has helped me appreciate Jack in a new way. I think he's unique, and amazing too. And yes, I believe you're right about him being a genius. He is definitely different, and I love his sound, his voice too.
I was at this show. I’ll never forget it. Was the day (time zone difference) Elliot Smith died. Jack revealed this to the audience at the start. It was such a weird and sad vibe for. WS show. Whirlwind Heat opened and they blew me away.
Pardon me while I pick up my jaw from where it dropped on the floor! The riff, the groove, the guitar sound, the vocals, the tightness, the looseness, the feel, the reckless abandon, the everything. This song is fuckin' epic!
I don't what it is, but Meg's drumming is addictive. I understand that I lot of people don't like it because the band is too simple, but fuck that. They are a punk and blues band, what do you expect. There sound is so unique and good, it hooks me in. I totally see what Jack was talking about when I comes to Meg.
I like to point out that Jack White has since played with a lot of more highly regarded musicians, and none of it as even close to as good as his shit with Meg. That’s gotta mean something
I was there! What this video doesn't do is give justice to just how bone shatteringly loud the two of them were. One of my all time favourite gigs. I'm so glad I get to relive a small part of it.
