In essence, Aptera could succeed even if using simple kit car/kit airplane building techniques with fiberglass over foam with off the shelf suspension and battery pack, even with cv axles and basic electric motors, etc. However, they're not settling for that, even though the core fundamentals are really very simple- a small, light, aero 3 wheel 2 seater. They're going all out to enhance and optimize the design at every point, building in tremendous value, efficiency, and performance with great technology.

I WAS sitting on the fence about adding more shares in this round,, your video reminded me about the chances of success of companies manufacturing/designing around first design principles like Aptera.
1) at this point I feel it’s almost a certainty that the vehicle will be produced.
2) it’s also almost a certainty that they’ll at the very least be moderately successful to wildly successful.
3) those who invest IMHO will at least break even sometime after IPO, with the distinct possibility of eventually 10Xing their investment.
So my wife and I are now the proud owners of 3300 shares of Aptera.
Thanks again for reminding me of the reasons why Aptera is likely to succeed.
Only question in my mind is EXACTLY how big they will become. If they can follow up quickly with a 4-5seat 4wheel sedan with similar effeciency,, I think they’re off to the races.

I love the sound it makes when accelerating. Sounds like a space ship from Star Wars
This is an exciting concept and I would love to order one. Please consider these points: 1. I'm seeing both a full round and a half round steering wheel in your videos. Which will it be? A round steering wheel lets me better reposition my hands to avoid hand and arm fatigue on trips, and also makes cornering more intuitive. 2. My plug-in Prius has almost all controls on a large screen; I love this car but it requires me to take my eyes off the road to adjust HVAC, etc. - very unsafe. My Prius also has multiple controls on the steering wheel (phone, sound volume and source, trip counters, etc.) which is great, but you will have only 2 programmable buttons on the steering wheel. You are making Aptera even more dependent on screen views than my Prius. Please remember that a car isn't just a computer on wheels - it's also a weapon that can kill and we must always be diligent. 3. My plug-in Prius is really fun to drive, but its light weight makes it get buffeted by winds, particularly side winds on highways. Your Aptera will be even lighter - please address how it handles in side winds. 4. How do we manage a flat tire on the highway? Looks cumbersome to remove the wheel covers; I assume there is no jack, spare tire, flat tire kit (kits are totally useless anyway!). 5. I also have a Bolt EV, can get 250+ miles with conservative driving, can plug in (both my cars) at home with my L2 charger, and can seat five. Both my vehicles are very useful, peppy, fun, and full functioning vehicles. Do you intend to increase the seating capacity at some point? Or is the Aptera designed to be more of a commuter vehicle than a travel vehicle? 6. The camper option looks fantastic, until you factor in how two people sleep along with the cooler, clothing, food containers, camping stove, stove fuel, and miscellaneous items. Please address the camping feature more comprehensively. And finally, thank you - your solar, construction, and materials features make this a very, very impressive, much needed vehicle for today and the future.

They need to do some cold and freezing weather testing to see how it handles icy and snow covered roads plus to check out overnight battery degradation. Real world conditions, otherwise it is just a fair weather vehicle.
They have been testing battery packs down to 40 below. Chris Anthony co-founded and as CEO took public a lithium battery company for industrial equipment applications. They know more than you might think about battery pack design for harsh conditions.
Five years from now I would like to see a four wheel solar high roof cargo van for campers and business next. Nothing like it solar and hub motors.
It will need to be a design similar to the Stella Vita concept developed by Danish students. Standard camper vans are bricks plowing through the air and solar on the roof would add next to nothing to battery range. The Stella Vita has a 60-kwh lithium-ion battery pack, which gets some charge from the roof-mounted solar panels. They can generate 2 kw when folded or 4 kw when unfolded, according to Solar Team Eindhoven. Normal range is estimated at 372 miles, but that can be extended to 453 miles on a sunny day, the team claims.
@@jonsek makes sense, I still would like hub motors and composite design added. The high roof solar extend system still the best. The hub motors would could be turned off or on separately. The body style will be little more customized. The personal power would be a good cost when parked for a fill or traveling.
@@vic321344 not for the car, for a cargo van , it's also for high roof van diy living as well , retirement stuff like that. I ordered the 3 wheel Aptera for efficiency. The high roof solar extension roof and hub motors would be for a better fix then everything buried like a external motor and gears. Plus ford is pretty much the only option for a higher roof e van. I think a Aptera high roof cargo would just be a better option. The normal auto industry always find a way to make life harder and then nobody trust them.
@@vic321344 well first of all Convenience , many things , besides the fact it Would be much easier to change just one hub that's having an issue when the car gets older at a time and much cheaper Then replacing the whole giant motor or something like that that's buried. You could have a computer Give you a suggestion of shutting off 1 or 2 of the hub motors, Based off of how much power is being drawn to run them would differ on how much weight you have in the vehicle slopes and so on. You probably wouldn't need a professional garage to replace a hub motor, No giant air lift overhead or nothing like that special weight support or anything.
With 50,000 orders already, I think if they can get it into production, it can make it.
Where are you reading how many orders there are already? I pre ordered a few weeks ago.
@@Bendc1970A1 Last month the company said it had 32,000 pre-orders as reported by Electrek. Order numbers (which are somewhere around ~50,000 now) are quite a bit higher and don't reflect the actual reservation total.
Maybe they should do a limited initial release, and warm weather areas only

This is the only ev i would ever buy if could ...Light year and Aptera are the only cars that use in-wheel motors so far but light year is way way to much ... But Aptera is the only one that is futuristic and cost less witch is why people love it and it has long range and you can fix your self ...
In-hub motors sound like a good idea, but they have much higher unsprung mass and there can be issues with cooling.
And what parts of the Aptera do you think you'll be able to fix yourself?
hello Jonsek; that is fair; but they didn't start from scratch they had a hybrid from which this is newer all electric was derived. They have also piddled around doing things you don't have to do for a motorcycle. Even more frustrating is to see all the effort spent on videos when they ought to be 100% focused on training people; getting tooling and producing cars for customers. The earlier vehicle also got designed and hyped and never was put into production.
The original founders lost control in 2009 to a CEO hired by Idealab. He was from Detroit and didn't do what he was hired for. The current design is completely new in 2019.
The people producing videos are helping pull in the funding that is making the company work. The last SEC report shows they are keeping up with a greatly increased cash burn. They are paying their way.
I have followed Aptera over the last couple of years and absolutely love it and its design!
If Aptera follows the VW bug marketing plan or even the first Honda plan it will succeed, if it's allowed by the present day ""Big Three car manufacturers, The Unions, and NWO ideocracy. Remember it's a competition between power struggles, Big Money and Big profit, bereft of morality, fairness and etc. Necessity is the mother of invention, so they say. But he who ("Controls") it all, or all the energy is the King.

If the acceleration on the 3 motor version is anything close to what they say, this car is going to be serious competition for hard core sports cars costing 5 times as much.
My wife and I rode in an alpha prototype with 2WD and even it was a revelation! These are going to be BIG fun.
It’s quick but not fast. 0-60, a Shelby GT500 does it in 3.6 sec. If you challenge one at a light, let him go after you hit 60. My brother has a Mustang GT that he races regularly. He turns 99mph in 13.9 seconds. I expect to embarrass him with my AWD Aptera.
@@dougandersen645 Yes. Even the Ford Mustang Ecoboost V8 has a 0-60 time about the same as a 2WD Aptera. AWD will probably be around 3.5 in the heavier battery pack versions and even faster with the lighter ones. All versions will be RPM limited to a top speed of around 110 mph, which will vary some by tire profile fitted.
Unlike more start ups Aptera looks to have made all the right choices which is why i agree it will be successful, it is the right product at the right time with the right execution. Even if most people don't register it when they see the car, eventually they will through necessity...To me the Aptera is the first choice for anyone who want the best value solution to long term transport, unless you have more money than brains this should be the first consideration.
Good news. Why? Great design! Just if they would figure out how to protect those motors. Current ways are shocks, springs, cushions and leafs.The design, interior and cells are great innovations and I wish the Company success!
How safe is this machine if you had an accident with a conventional car?
Aptera will voluntarily test delta production vehicles through an independent lab to FMVSS part 200 standards. When that occurs the ratings will be published.
I think that they will succeed, and far exceed expectations as a company with a product that makes sense for the times, we are living in. The company ethos, of making a vehicle that will be able to be upgraded, as future technological advancements occur, and that they state should be able to last for several generations, why wouldn't they succeed? Today's world with built in obsolescence to sell the next generation, the push back is a great idea to other producers. To keep the shell of the car, and replace solar, or batteries, and yet keep it on the road, is a novel idea. No one I know would balk at an idea of making it quality enough for 20/30 years. Why can't we think that way? I believe Chris Anthony, and Steve Fambro should be honored for thinking that way, instead of, "Make a ton of money by replacement every three years or so!" So yes, it will succeed, and not just scrape by doing a few each year. I believe as the word spreads that this company might become a household name and be very well known for doing a great job. Excited to drive mine.

Interested, but not if it runs into the mid $40k. I just watched a video that wasn't that old,( I believe less than a year) where the company was talking about low 20s to low 30s. Now I'm hearing mid 40's.
Mid forties for the high end with 1000 mile battery. starts at $26k I think, for the 250 mile battery

Does Aptera have the funding to go into production? This seems to be the problem. There is money for development,but when it comes time to mass produce, money seems to run out.
Will the Aptera have the ability to plug into your Home in case of power outages?
This is something the company is talking to partners about and plans to announce more on closer to production. Of course, things could change.

I wish Tesla would buy a stake in the company to insure their financial future and to make incorporating Tesla tech like the charge port and FSD easier.
It would be easy, but it would have to come without control strings. The founders have experienced losing control of their company once and aren't likely to repeat the mistake.
Tesla was saved back in the day by a $50 million dollar input from Daimler.
Does anyone know is aptera will have heat pump
The CMO said a couple of weeks ago that a heat pump will not make it into the launch edition, but it's something the company is looking at possibly integrating later on.
Aptera feels more like vaporware designed to suck money out of investors than an actual viable car. Outrageous claims are made without evidence eg that it is one of the safest cars, despite ZERO ACTUAL CRASH TESTING to prove it. From third-party videos (as opposed to marketing fluff), it seems like a cramped, noisy, uncomfortable driving experience.
I'm convinced it will soon fail as a company, but I could be wrong.
Why Aptera will succeed? Why Aptera could succeed! So far they do not deliver yet.

The Cybertruck tooling costs are at least an order of magnitude higher than Aptera's.
Aptera is too ahead its time. It would be like buying w Toyota Prius in 1998. It will have its time perhaps…may need more conventional styling first.
The unconventional styling is its greatest strength, and the source of its massive efficiency. It may have been too far ahead of it's time in 2008, but honestly it's too late now. Let's get into production!

so Bruce I now reviewed the video - solar is in production and the video doesn't show any vehicle production capacity; it talks a lot about how they are developing solar panels and PLAN to put them into production. Aptera has proven itself great at planning and designing over and over - but not production/manufacturing. Which is not shown there to be getting anywhere.
Bad news! Why? I built a hot rod and mounted each front fender onto the front wheels. Results were disastrous. Why? I only drove it to car show so it always experienced nice smooth roads. But, during my 17 years I had to weld the mounts 5 times. I even took it to a certified welder at the airport and that didn't work. Suggest as you drive normally look at a neighboring vehicle and notice how violently their wheels bounce. Now imagine rain, snow, ice gravel and off road rocks. Now imagine sensitive motors subject to this abuse plus extreme weather conditions. Nope, Aptera's wheel mounted motors will be its undoing.
Underrated comment.
These motors are specifically designed to meet these challenges. Elaphe has done fairly extensive durability testing, and expect the motors to last pretty much the lifetime of the car. They put out a pretty good video about it maybe a year ago. Worth a watch

@@tommorgan1291 Lol yes I have. I agree, the stresses on these motors will be crazy high. Elaphe claims to have solve the engineering to handle that. I see no reason to doubt them yet. It'll be warrantied anyhow :D
Stress will also affect the wheel covers. I know this for a fact as I tried it. Miy mounts frequently cracked and had to be welded over and over. This wheel mounted fender system was only driven to car shows on Phoenix and Scottsdale streets.
It will suck when people use an angle grinder and steal the in-hub motors in 2 minutes.
Peter Thiel is a megalomaniac, bad choice.
Really Onyenadum Those other vehicles which include non complete Betas; are all one offs, with only one Gamma model motorcycle made; they are not in production; nor have any been delivered to customers; nor do they say they will before mid 2023 now - (unless they once again changed their delivery dates) they are already a year late and have no production lines, no poople being trained for production; nor do they have stocks of parts ready to be used for production. They should sell the design to a company that knows how to manufacture.
Jim, all it would take is for you to look at Aptera's solar video released today to know that you have made several false statements here. There were three alphas, all of which I saw last November, and one of which my wife and I rode in. Production parts are already being produced and stockpiled. Munro Associates delivered the complete production plan months ago, and people are undergoing training on each of the 12 stations. Why do you comment on things you clearly know nothing about?
I just searched for any vdieo released by Aptera - of any kind - at lease not here on TH-cam - this is the most recent video which shows nothing in terms of video showing production , training of personnel, or parts stock piled - if there is such a link ; do respond with the link embedded as right now I am forced to conclude your response is misleading.
I like that people are trying to make electric cars more appealing. Unfortunately Aptera's design is not very appealing. I'm sure the technicals are awesome, but if you have a product that is too weird and maybe too old fashioned (with its front fenders reminding of old 50s classic American cars) you're going to get stuck in a niche segment (local maximum). Look at what Tesla did with it's ugly front fascia "bubble" in the first model S-> delete.
With that thinking, we should continue to make boring flat sided boxes, that plow through the air, wasting too much energy? Form follows function.

It’s as big as a car, but doesn’t have the cargo space of one, has the seating of a motorcycle but none of its conveniences. And if it’s strong point is range, do you really see yourself going on endless roadtrips without stopping for a refill in such a cramp space, without the cargo capacity? Or if you’re gonna use it for commuting, wouldn’t a regular model 3 type be sufficient and much more practical, also making the range argument a moot point. I think the Arcimoto has the same problems.
@@jonsek To me something like an Eqooder with a roof would make way more sense for commuting. As for range, it looks like any 300mile+ range electric car is largely enough. If you're looking for a 1000mile range in one go type of car, then yes aptera is good, but who needs that on a regular basis ?
Personally I find the design very appealing, and I know I'm not alone in that. Not everyone will like it, and that's okay. I've test driven the Arcimoto, and it's fun, but it's basically a high end motor scooter. It won't be replacing anyone's car. Aptera is only a two-seater, but drives like a car, has safety designed in from the beginning, has plenty of cargo space, and is notably cheaper than most other EVs on the market. Beautiful, practical, and highly efficient.
@@vic321344 You're making things up again. They've said there will be some sort of cargo net or something to keep things in the back, and you know very well it has plenty of safety features built in. Yes, it's legally a motorcycle, but it's functionally a car. And what on earth do you have against pregnant whales?
Bruce you need to get some reading glasses Mr Ambassador - I SAId PRODUCTION VEHICLES - DELIVERED TO CUSTOMERS = ZERO. I'd be happy for Aptera to show actual stockpiles of parts and work stations with people being trained - then I'll certainly recant my comments. I'll view the video - if they show all that I'll be very glad to to stop saying the contrary. I'll view that video right now.

Elio is nothing to be compared with Aptera. My opinion.
Start with the fact that Elio never promised refunds of deposits and never did so. Add to that that Elio announced a production motor that didn't exist at an impossible price. I was out when they did that.
Where is the beef? Aptera was suppose to be in production quite a while ago; and all you hear is lousy excuses. COVID and Supply chain; if that were so problematic you'd imagine much larger manufactures would also be impacted; Tesla makes 2000 cars a day Aptera can't make 1 a day or even 1 a month. When it comes to the rubber hitting the road and delivering to customers Aptera has no experience and really have not exhibited the drive a start up needs. They can produce videos - maybe they should change to a video production outfit.
Really? They have already five functional units ploughing the roads of San Diego, California. Even @Aussies Ideas Man acknowledges that, even though he believes they are not real vehicles, but fake. Lol!
Some things take time. Tesla was founded July 2003 & it took them 5 years to produce that funky Lotus chassis roadster. A weak design that was priced at $120,000.
@@vic321344 They're not that far from a production ready prototype. The Gamma was already 80% production intent. And if you think you can put an Aptera together from off the shelf components, do it, and I'll buy it off you. :D
Of course larger manufacturers are impacted. Do you live in a cave? The videos are helping bring in the investment money needed. The last SEC report shows that in spite of sharply increased expenses, they still have about the same cash cushion available. And this is while building out and putting in production large solar panel and battery pack assembly plants that are even larger and more complex than the final assembly location.
Munro said 18 months to 2 yrs before production. It's a 2 seater, 3 wheeled death trap with "sacrificial" wheel skirts. It is shaped like what it is, a big turd. Terrible turning radius, can't do a proper drive-thru, will roll with some idiot punching it in reverse. In 2 yrs just imagine what real car manufacturers will be offering. There is always some fool with money thinking this is the next tesla. They forget the first tesla was just an electric Lotus with a targa top.
You will be crying when you see these on the road and learn that the owners are paying for their cost in fuel savings alone. You are correct about the Tesla. People also forget that it took Tesla 6 years to ship the first one.

No, very poor design with the two front wheels. They are going to be drove into curbs and people will back into them while parked. The will get scratched up and the hub motors will cost your thousands to replace. They will NOT make it and you could be driving a four wheel vehicle that's a lot more useful 😉.
The wheels are as robust as any. Even breaking a wheel does not automatically result in a broken wheel motor. This has been tested by running them into curbs fast enough to deflate the tires.
@@n.brucenelson5920 We will see. They will be scratched up, bent, backed into, ran into as they are hard to see and easy to break off. Time will tell if they ever come to market.

Sorry, it is a FAIL. 'Outrigger' wheels simply do not work on cars that are for general use in town and on the highway, and the reason is that they are highly vulnerable to damage if they hit a curb, another car, or a very small dog.
